    *Summery so far*

In a long abandoned tower you awoke within the ice and snow covered wastes of the northern continent. You were told that your identity was the last creation of a long dead evil tyrant who once ruled that continent and threatened the peace of the whole world. This evil despot commanded armies that stood with tens of thousands of monstrosities, but an alliance of the southern kingdoms vanquished him and their savour and saint banished evil from the world. A thousand years have past, and all that was left of that forgotten tyrant’s power was spent to create you. You exist and were born despite that saint’s curse that no evil would walk the world again and spread its spawn. You began weak, meagre, a man with a leper’s strength, but through acts of evil, and corrupting others your power has grown. You have defeated holy paladins in combat, ended a once proud dynasty that ruled Naheland for centuries and burned vast swaths of a city to the ground. Now you fester within the walls of the city Angelfalls an ancient city built by both Elf and Dwarven craftsmen and inherited by the human kings. You prepare to bring down or conquer it and have your powers and influence grow. But be wary of your foes, the Apostle States, the inheritors of the Saint’s will and the nations and men of the whole world who would or grow to desire your demise, least their world be destroyed or enslaved under your boot.

    *End Summery*

Weeks have passed since your meeting with Brem. During the past weeks rumours of a tragedy in Ostenmark have traveled this far almost matching the rumours of a threat from Easterners amassing east outside Naheland’s boarders. Some go as far to credit the recent destruction and farfetched horrors as the work of the Easterners. Radical Valtir priests preach to the masses on the streets litany of redemption and heralding the end times for an era of peace and prosperity for all people of the continent.

While gathering your resources and planning on how to dismantle the city a sudden turn of events has shook the city of Angelfalls. A large fleet of white galleys appeared outside Angelfalls with no notice a few days ago. It raised great alarm when not even travelling merchant vessels warned of their arrival. They oddly remained on the horizon for several days as well. You have encountered these vessels before; they could only belong only to the Elves of the far western continent. From the fleet of fifty vessels an army emerged of about 5000 swarmed the city and up to the citadel of Angelfalls and parlayed with the ruling nobility of. Producing old treaties they proclaimed that they possessed the right to reoccupy the city at their leisure, a deal ancient humans accepted for a city well beyond their capability to make so long ago. Who expected the landlords to return after so long?

The Elven army and fleet has occupied Angelfalls, although they have removed no people, and made no declaration of doing so, they asked the ruling parties of the city to stand down and confine themselves to their estates. The people are baffled at the sudden reappearance of the elves en masse. To see an elf more then two times in an entire life time is rare for most. Tales of Elfish magic are legendary, and an entire army is too intimidating to protest against. Formal meetings between the other powers of Telreinz and the elves are to take place soon at the citadel towering over the crest of the waterfall.

They have made no public declaration of their intent; you have gathered all this knowledge through the information Brem has been willing to give for free. You can guess that they have not arrived caring about the plight of old allies, they are here looking for you. Providence may have led them to the city you have hidden away in, but they have not discovered you yet, the initiative is yours.

We need to raise anti elf sentiment among the Human population. Play up the actions and
    >imply
    sinister connotations to said actions.

The elves are plotting to strike against the human lands. They'll be using this city as a staging point. Removing the human leadership was the first step. Soon they'll put Elves in control of all aspects of the city, then more elves will arrive, and then more. Then it will be too late.

You will not find many speaking out against the elves in the city. But you have gone weeks without using your magic, and the aura you give off during and after doing so has diminished. For now you may pass off as human and not inspire fear so long as you keep your eyes hidden.

The people are way, and you can use that against them. But soon after engaging the population and trying to incite them, a patrol of elven soldiers led by what appears to be a captain arrives with weapons sheathed. They stand at ease to make themselves as non threatening as they can.

The captain speaks up once the marching column comes to a halt, "Hail citizens of Angelfalls. I hear there may be some animosity of our arrival, I have come on behest of Prince Aldwerin to see to your concerns." The elf with straight posture and beaming confidence reaches his hand out to you from beyond the crowd you have gathered, "And what sir do you see so threatening as old allies returning to their city?"

You dredge up emotions that are already there and twist them. Think what Iago did to Othello with making him think that he beloved was cheating on him with another man and how Iago turned Othello's good natured loved into paranoia, jealousy and brutality. You cannot however use it to imply and convince someone that 2+2 equals 5.

The captain's eyes widen in shock for a moment, like he can't understand why you are so angry. Reaching into his white silk cloak he pulls out a scroll and likens his voice to a town crier's as he unfurls and summarizes its contents, "This here is an exact copy of the Angelfalls treaty signed one thousand years ago! Signed by the noble families of the time surviving the great war: Alberc, Colbain, Feretz, Hinter, Jerwen and Salrizen! That the elves leaving for the lands of rest across the western seas would give this city to the kings and noblemen of man, only to relinquish it should the Elven High Sages see fit to return to the east shores of the great sea!"

While rolling the scroll back up, "Your ancestors agreed to this binding treaty, I would not expect any of your kind to remain alive from that day, but I would know it from those we stood by in battle a thousand years ago to have the Honor and understanding to respect the law!" Turning to his troops he leaves the crowd behind, and with him the gathered crowd beings to filter out slowly from the square back to their homes and places of business. They seem unready to confront the elves, nor act without the word of their aristocrats and town leaders.

Not much to expect from a class of people not used to thinking for themselves.

Well that could have gone better, no matter.

Alrighty, staying low is probably a good idea even if we're flattered the elves put this much effort into stopping us. Who leads the city? Can we get our newfound followers and those thieving scoundrels to start disseminating propaganda likening the elves to ancient enemies? Graffiti, vandalism hell even small fires should help. As the fellow above me stated, if we could even get one elf to murder a human this situation might blow up. Also, we need to find out who this Elven Prince is, and how the Aristocrats are taking this.

You arrange a meeting with Brem, the criminal leader of Angelfalls east dock slums.

"What are you crazy? Messing with the elves?" He takes some time to think. "You can't bribe elves and you're a madman to try and pirate one of their trade galleys. One mage on that ship and you're done for! I don't even know how they cross the sea without being swallowed up." He gets up and starts pacing back and forth. "They got a fleet outside the harbour, they're letting ships in, but only one out of ten of my smuggler runners is making it through with contraband intact! You want my help I need gold! Insane amount of gold for doing something insane like standing up to the elves! And setting fires and provoking em? Big time gold, serious gold!"

Considering how easily you dispatched a galley of elves months ago, you are getting the assumption the reputation for grace with absurd power the elves wield is more of a set back then the elves themselves. You really really do hate them.

"But the aristocrats? Yeah sure, they can't be happy about it. They're getting locked up in their estates above the waterfall. From what I can tell the nobles are trying to tell them about the Black Dune Prince, that guy leading the Easterner army east of Naheland. The elves don't wanna listen, they say they only care about finding some guy. Want to use this place as a base for it. They want to meet up with the Apostle states too. Crazy they are, an army standing on the continents doorstep and they only care about stupid things. 'Merchants' like me will be the first to go if those easterners sweep in.

Loopholes are good, let's get in on that. Also: If we have a loyal cadre of followers get them to start killing people and dumping them off the docks. Then spread rumors about the elves kidnapping people for whatever reason, their homes, gold, suspected traitors associated to whoever they are looking for (HINT: IT MAY BE US) just fan the flames slowly. Hell even suggest to Brem that this would be a great time to start knocking out the competition using this method. Wealthy traders go missing, elves blockading certain ships from entering. Anything to get him to cooperate and lower his price.

Look for loophole in the treaty, and approach nobles with Catherine as the last heir of the treaty's families.

Provide the nobles with a excellent legal opportunity to politely ask the elves to leave the city; either they refuse, and we incite rebellion, or they just leave, and we get to work our magic anyways.

"Yeah yeah! I-" Just at that point he catches a glimpse of one of your eyes and catches on to the sternness of your voice and even that old stubborn criminal takes a step back. "R-right, you're right. But I just got like 50 good runners, they got an army. They ain't just some city guard, they probably some collection of two thousand year old veterans or something! You got to offer me something in return!"

"Then start filling in the harbour with bodies instead of stones."

"You heard me. People with debts, make an example of them in these hard times. Get rid of them."

With the distractions out of the way for now you take a moment to relax and close your eyes, trying to find where that bird went. Anticipating your desires, your vision is filled with the blurred vision of the raven sitting upon the stone of a window high within one of the citadel's towers.

And soon to follow the voices inside, "-if you're our allies then you must know that your allies are in danger and help us." One of the man's aids attempts to remind him of his manners but that man is promptly ignored. "Those on the boarders are not those kings and nobles of men who fought with you so long ago, if you want our help we must solve these problems first. The kings of all nations are preparing to raise armies should they actually march further west!"

"Please Duke, I know of your concerns, but what I seek is something that wont threaten your ruling class but all life and respect for dignity of life."

The duke's word's remain stern, "Prince..."

The prince sitting in the Dukes own court throne waves his hand, "I mean you no ill will my good Duke, and I assure you I will prove the threat you cannot see. I would not have it fester and grow while you ignore it. This city will remain safe I can assure you. More Elves will come, some months ago we lost a ship of diplomats, we later learned it must have been because of 'it'."

Opinion is split between influencing noble houses and developing a new cult.

I'm for a new cult. While garnering noble support could be useful, I think that the idea of losing their power over the city will be enough of a turn off to the nobles that they will support Catherine's renegotiation attempts without further nudging.

However, the people have lived like sheep, getting everything handed to them and not making any choices themselves. This is perfect for our purposes. We spread word (through criminal connections) about how the elves intend to rework the ruling class so that the humans will no longer have such an easy time of it. Make it sound like the elves intend to slowly convert the human populace into wage slaves.

Then we offer them another option. Force the elves out. Keep this city for humans, by humans. But how do we fight the elves' magic? Well, if you come to this location after midnight, you'll learn how you can strike at the elves and protect yourself from their sorcery.

We're hosting the meetings, and while we fill their minds full of glory and freedom, taint their thoughts with pictures of elfish boots on their necks.

That's more than ten human generations, and they can't expect to come in and have a smooth transition. Suggest that many of the bad feelings going around could be resolved with a tweaking of the treaty, as allowed by the treaty itself.

If we can show ourselves as capable of dealing with the elves and supporting the nobles, we'll get their support (and close enough to make them our psychic slaves as well).

Well shit. This guy and his eye candy are on to us. Let's let him speak and drive the nobles further from his side. There's plenty of time to widen the wedge between them. Although it sounds like if he has a good idea who we are then he might be willing to play by the rules of renegotiation. Imagine it: Our own LEGALLY conquered city. If only to ever serve as a safehouse when shit boils over. Oh yeah, I like this alot.

The Duke mutters under his breath, "That Prince Aldwerin acts more like a spoiled teenager then a real ruler." The Duke remembering you two are present readjusts himself. "Forgive me for my lack of manners, I've spent the better part of the last few days trying to keep the Prince in once place long enough to settle things out."

The Duke takes a few minutes to listen to what you have to say before mentioning, "There is something I'd like to discuss with you."

The Duke invites you to a room aside from the party escorted by his own guards to a private room outside of which his own guards stand watch.

"The thing is I agree with you that this feels more like an Elfish occupation. More ships keep coming every few days. They might annex this whole region east of the mountains and just west of Midstland. It is a valuable city to my king, but being on the other side of the mountains and with two countries bordering it we've always been wary in this city." The Duke pauses for a moment, there is a single knock on the door, apparently the guards are giving signals, and the duke speaking again must mean it is still clear. "The prince keeps on brining up the 'lighthouse of Angels' or I think that's what it means translated from elfish. He keeps saying it will protect the city and assures us with our garrison, levy troops and knights in just my dukedom and his own forces can keep any threat at bay. I simply don't like it myself."

I would be proud to let my keen mind and strength to this task.”

"Thank you for your confidence Duke, it makes me feel safe sharing this.

I feel that this is the precursor to larger events. The ships that never stop coming, the use of a diplomatic excuse to avoid conflict, word of raising further armies and the promise of more troops, all passed as 'to our benefit.'

Duke, I think this is all a ruse. The elves are simply using the easterners as an excuse to invade. They'll help us, of course, but once the easterners are defeated, what then? The human forces are weak, the walls broken, the farmlands devastated, and the elves with all their might right off the coast, ready to march in and take everything.

I have no proof of this, but I cannot accept that they would choose now of all times, with an enemy army at the gates, to call upon that ancient treaty. Why else would they risk harm upon themselves unless it were the only way to take all these lands in one fell swoop?

I believe that our only hope is to consolidate the human presence here, Duke. I pray that you consider my words."

There are two knocks on the door and the Duke reacts immediately. Grabbing a book of a desk in the room he walks quickly toward the door turning around only for a moment to address the two of you.

"The two of you need to stay in this room for now, leave only after you feel it safe to leave without being seen. You are not residents of this city so I welcome you to be guests within this castle either way and you may use this room. I suggest you don't return to the party, I'll say left already and retired for the night. And do not cross the bridge to the other keep, the elves are refusing anyones entrance there. Even myself. Furthermore, I'm sure my men will arrive in three days time from up river."

With that the Duke leaves the room.

The books themselves are nothing substantial. The duke probably took one to make it look like he was looking for something, it didn't really mater what it was as long as it could pass for important.

Its dusk by now, but be wary of shadow stepping, if anyone is paying attention, going too great a distance will light you up like a flare to a watchful magic user.

If the elves are refusing entrance, they've got serious shit going on.

We need to get unrecognizable. If we're carrying our inventory with us in some kind of portable hole, let's swap into our rags. Shadowstep outside and stick to the shadows. Then we case the elves' keep.

If we can infiltrate, even for just a few minutes, we might be able to grab something important, or even better, plant fake orders or evidence of "suppression."

Do we even have a place to stay in this city? Maybe we can shadowstep out, rent a room somewhere, and then go spy while Catherine sleeps.

Were we training her in any magical ability or fighting skill? If we can't infiltrate, then upping her abilities would be a good use of our time. After all, the heroes never expect the mistress to be the ones killing them when the Dark Lord is on his knees.

Leaving the room behind you look outside to see the guards and Duke long gone. You can see outside through the many small windows that dusk is indeed approaching. And while there is still time in the day you cannot help but take a look at what the elves are so desperately trying to keep hidden. Keeping to the shadows and moving from cover to cover you make your way through the abandoned halls until you come across the floor where you could swear you saw the might stone bridge connecting the two keeps on each side of the waterfall. Standing guard in front of the large doors leading to this bridge are a pair of elven soldiers. Taking a moment to prepare you slip into the shadows and appear on the other side of the might doors onto the bridge itself. Hidden behind the ornate statues that line bridge you notice patrolling elven soldiers marching back and forth, but with quick and short jumps over a period of time you cross the bridge and into the other tower.

Surprisingly inside the keep it is rather abandoned and there are no patrols at all. But what you can hear is a definite humming, a white background noise that doesn't desist. As you climb the stairs higher and higher you eventually reach where the top of the keep should be, and one last pair of might oak doors is before you. Without making a sound you slip into the shadows and appear on the other side of the doors. In this room is a large glass like structure, a cylinder reaching up twenty feet to the ceiling. Along the edges of the rooms, are mechanical gears and chains, pulleys and strange mechanisms that you cannot deduce with a glance what they do. But within the glass cylinder a beating heart of white electricity throbs continuously, giving off a constant radiance of magic energy, however, it is nowhere near large enough to merit building something so big to contain it, maybe its suppose to be bigger?

At that point a wave of nostalgia washes over you and your vision is replaced with another. You're on a galley. Manning the oars are a collection of bestial men with tusks and building misshapen biceps snarling and gnashing as they labour at the oars. The eyes you have no control over look up at what could only be the city of Angelfalls. Heading towards it are other galleys, smaller but manned by the same collection of beasts. Then like another sun rising before you, with the sun still setting behind you a light shines above the waterfall. Then without a sound, six galleys almost neatly in a row to your right are bathed in a bright white light like a signal light shoots out from the waterfall so far away. The bright light tightens and becomes a thin beam of white light only the thickness of a man. Then a horrid noise, like thunder and stretching tears in a straight line into those ships and rips them to pieces, lighting them ablaze and leaving their crew torn to pieces. The water shoots up into the air and rains down on the rest of the fleet pushing several ships near the explosion away. Still the galleys press on. And another light only moments later beings to shine again.

You awaken again before the glass cylinder once more.

    ---

And its late and I'm tired so I'm calling this part to a close.
