I'm currently on the interdimensional route. I have enough tech to start taking on either Gensokyo or Hell. Hell...is self explanatory, with demons, horrific tortures, and brimstone/fire/lava/blahblahblah. This sounds like the best base ever, and if we manage to take that titanic Cyberdemon thing and inject it with Phazon... Downside is it will be VERY VERY hard to establish a base, almost as hard as Dark Aether.
Gensokyo, on the other hand, is one wherein the attempt to invade is more likely to succeed. One of those laidback places, with apparently absolutely nothing dangerous (at least to us Space Pirates). No apparent downside.
Which one should I take on?

How hard is Dwarf Fortress to mod anyway? I seem to recall similar projects attempted in the past (both Pirate Colony and Skaven Warren), but little coming to fruition.
    >> Anonymous 09/09/10(Thu)12:48 No.12017468
    >>12017443
It's very easy, although it has some limitations. You can't really get civilizations that act hugely differently from the standard elf/human/dwarf/goblin behaviors, that's sort of the biggest one. But modding in creatures and items is easy, and extremely flexible. It can be a lot of text to edit, though.

How about some of the power suit pirates, the ones with the reverse engineered energy shields from Samus's Beams?

Just make one, then color swap it for the 4 colors.

Or you could make them adorably dressed depending on their element, like the ice beam pirates dressed in a eskimo parka with earmuffs, the wave beam pirate wearing a TRON suit and so on.

It seems Op has left us, but I had a wonder: How will the X be handled, or will they be? I imagine it could be used like something along the lines of zombification, where it converts your pirates into it's pirates.

But that is sort of like the Ing. I figure Ing could be found on "Evil" maps, where instead of undead monsters, you'd have darkling monsters and such.

Because I'm on a bit of a metroid kick lately 9I blame these threads), I'm going to post some thoughts.

    1) the space pirates are at least associated with Zebes, though I forget if they actually are Zebesian. Still, that's a potential thing to all them that's shorter than "space pirates."

    2) Chozo ruins and natural caverns should be things that can be found on maps. In fact, a chozo temple is a great way to start putting a base together by re-purposing rooms and expanding the complex.. Unfortunately, they tend to contain things Hunters want...

This would alo explain why there are energy and weapon recharge stations, as wel as map stations, which interface perfectly with Samus' power suit but are possibly useless to space pirates. they're part of the ruins of the chozo civilization on Zebes. The pirates moved in and expanded quite a bit. Also explains the blind spots on Samus' map downloads. the new areas were added later.

Oooh, welcome back. That's actually a really good idea.

Maybe have boss monsters like Thardus could be like the artifacts from dorf fortress, sometimes a scientist will get a strange mood, and require a pirate and some phazon, and later they come out with a brand new Phazon elite.

Just a though though, but how will the artifact creation be handled? Will they create mostly stuff that is useless to them, but the hunter could use like the Acid Rain protect suit from Prime? Or maybe have both, you get a boss monster artifact from the deal, but the cool upgrade for Samus gets made too, explaining why bosses are always giving those out in the game.

(p.s. what class didja get out of?)

I was thinking about these guys earlier today, just how freaky they are. It doesn't matter how many times you blast them to bits and blow up their base, they just keep coming, keep building crazy shit. No matter how many test subjects die horrible, painful deaths, they just keep trying anything and everything they can to get more power. Yet they are still hilarious!

most of the stuff in this mod isn't so much new coding as it is renaming, retexturing, and changing the values of a few things. for example, statues in dwarf fortress translate to save stations in make science, fell beasts are mercenaries, smelters are renamed "hotshop" and instead of 1 ore = 1 bar you get more back, etc.

    >>12019270
See, that makes sense, but the issue is Phazon was going to be like the adamantine of this game. Important valuable stuff, for mutation, power, armor and all that jazz

And if you dig too deep into the Phazon, you break into the leviathin core of hidden fun stuff. Like fission metroids and the like, and a boss like a metroid prime protecting the leviathin seed.
That was my understanding of how it would be handled anyways, since it seems the most similar between the two games. Of course, with Phazon being so super duper awesome and useful for lots of things in this game, perhaps we should split it up into Blue and Red Phazon.

Blue phazon would still be awesome and valuable, but it would be more plentiful than the Red Phazon, which is what the adamantine would be. Or not.

I'd just make the food various nutrients refined from cave-dwelling fungus or eaten raw (much like dwarves do it already, just rename the food to be Metroid-flavored). Also, I see no problem with space booze being acceptable instead of normal booze. Pirates can't get through their day without their cocktail of drugs and stimulants, or...whatever. Nutrient fluids? If only because "Process nutrient fluid" seems like a good change-up on "brew a drink".

Also ,seconding the idea of them not getting unhappy if people die. they seem the sort who would consider activating the acid-pumping system on a series of tubes while the guy who built the tube system is trapped inside his own creation to be giving said guy a glorious death. It was discussed in the first thread, I think. You can find it here.

    http://archive.easymodo.net/cgi-board.pl/tg/thread/12003265

quoted from a part of that thread

"samus will only raid once the fortress has a large number of metroids. she targets the metroids, focusing on killing them and anyone who gets in her way. after all the metroids are dead, she'll retreat. dark samus appears once the fortress begins mining phazon. she'll head over to the stockpile and steal any phazon available, then retreat. these hunters do not trigger traps and must be killed. once slayed, they drop various chozo artifacts, which can be sold at a high price or used to make reverse engineered things. note that no corpse is dropped, so you must assume that the hunter escaped some how and will return eventually. "

So basically, she is a ultra tough megabeast that shows up when you are doing shit with metroids, or so I understood it. Course, it could always change, any thoughts?

once you've got a decent fortress up and running, the legendary hunter samus aran appears. she'll target your metroids, after they're dead she'll retreat. once you strike phazon, the dark hunter will spawn occasionally to come and steal your phazon. if you manage to "kill" either one of them, they'll drop some chozo artifacts (dark samus drops a fuckton of phazon) but no corpse, so you assume they've escaped and will return some time in the future. you can never truly kill them.

they're basically like reoccurring fell beasts

SCIENCE is what space pirates make all their things out of, when they aren't made of Phazon or Metroids. Tubes are usually made of a mix of the three.

Also, for the different ores that can be mined, we should use some of those named rocks from the prime series. This will also mean that when the hunter shows up because you have been hoarding metroids again, she can powerbomb her way through your walls, crazy bitch that she is.

Bendezium and Denzium for power bombs.
    Super missles bust Cordite.
Talloric alloy and sandstone for morph ball bomb.

I think it should work in multiple ways though, as a heirarchy. So Power bomb will destroy all the kinds, Super missle will blow up cordite and below, and bombs destroy only sandstone and Talloric.

Of course, One could argue that logically, a power bomb should destroy more than just those materials, and just have it be an especially powerful normal explosive.

Speaking of which, we need some art for samus in her morph ball mode, I think. Let her be able to access different abilites depending on which form she is in.

Just reading through the log entries in Metroid Prime and I think I found something interesting.
It mentions, that the first generation of elite pirates was unable to hit sexual maturity.
So I gues they have gender? Or maybe they are like snails.

And they mention a phazon subtype, which they use to create elite pirates, since normal phaton doesn't cut it.
    They called it Vertigo Phazon.
