Well, I have returned from my holiday in Holland. It was overall, completely meh.

You are Commander David Lister (ZC, KCoZ) elite mobile suit ace and commander of the Nachtmaren Unit, and independant military formation put together by Garma Zabi for the express purpose of kicking things right in the plot armour.

Last week it almost looked like the war nearly over. Now however... well, it still looks like the war may nearly be over, just not in your favour.

This is it gentlemen, one way or another, it's the last day of Operation Odessa.

    THE STORY SO FAR

In a curious happenstance of synchonicity, both you and the federation planned thair war-ending hammer blow operations to occur almost within hours of each other, after almost half a year of bloody stalemate.
Whilst you ran riot in Jaburo, Revil and a division of Mobile Suits plus tanks and god knows what else assault Odessa, the first location taken by Zeon, and the single largest source of resources to feed the Zeon warmachine.
After being pulled out and onto the Odessa front you've tangled with several gundams and elite MS teams in an attempt to take down overall Federation Commander: General Revil.
Revil proved too wily for you and manage to avoid you're attacks.

In the following night, he revealed his secret weapon, flying MS platform technologies, produced in such numbers as to outfit what appeared to be the entirety of his MS compliment and then blithely fly over the reinforced fortifications of Odessa and attack Odessa HQ directly.

Receiving word that if Odessa falls it's commander Rear-Admiral M'Quve is under orders to deploy nuclear weapons to deny the enemy victory make an empassioned plea to prevent the breaking of the Antarctic treaty.
In order to convince him, you have to take down no less than the Enemies Northern Salient support elements - 4 Pegasus class Assault Carriers.

    Last week...

    >You clear the enemy air battle, and the signal to prep for an attempted Achilles Assault is given.
The Wappa Crew strap themselves in, and prepare themselves for their assault. Their plan is brutal and desperate, covered by flares and cannon fire from the Outer Heaven, these troopers will daringly attempt to breach the main bridge with heavy breaching charges and take command of the Central CnC. From their they can asisst in a systematic takedown of the ship.
Failing that, they place demolition charges throughout and blow the fucker up.

    >The Dodai Platforms are there to assist you should you miss the target and so you can return to the Outer Heaven.

    >Now prepared to lead the assault you organise your troops, fully prepared for whatever comes next.
Still no sign of the Gaw's.

    >In fact, it's only seconds before you're about to swoop in and make your attack that the Gaw's appear, a cloud of fighters in battle around both like a halo of metal and rockets, just in time.

    >Beams, missiles, chaff, flares, noisemakers and all manner of other munitions fly from the ships, covering the desperate drop by your infantry.

    >The second Pegasus is illuminated in lurid colours by beam fire, rockets and flak grows large in the open ventral bay.

    >You take the jump.

BUT WAIT! BEFORE YOU BEGIN... WHAT IS YOU'RE TEAMS WEAPONS LOADOUT?

David: Beam Carbine, 4-barrel MG, 2 stick renades, ammo, heat hawk, Gundam Shield
Zol: Kreiger shield, Beam lance, 2 heat hawks, ???
Jolyne: Zulu Shield, backpack beam weapon, beam rifle, beam naginata, ammo, spare heat saber.

    Okay then.

You leap first out of the dorsal exit bay, the still dark sky greets you. In the distance you see the faint red glow of the coming dawn.
Or possibly just distant fires from another battle elsewhere.

Bullets graze around you're team and beam's aimed haphazard flare in the dark. You see a trio of Flight Armour mounted GM's react to your attack, leaving their holding pattern for refueling and rearming inside the Carriers hanger bays and moving to intercept you. Innacurate shots from Beam Spray pistols attempt to bracket the Nachtmaren, but you and Jolyne respond with a burst from your Beam Carbine and Shoulder carbines, killing two and forcing a third to pull away.

At the last second you adjust your drop trajectory and push your boosters hard. You land heavily atop the command bridge, you hear the shattering of glass, your left foot attempts to find purchase on a simple radio strut which snaps quickly. You gun your thusters again and leap off the bridge before you become unbalanced and land atop the hanger.

Jolyne is directly in front of you, keeping enemy Air mounted MS off of the team, she has had to hold fire to prevent from hitting you.
Zolomon lands on the opposing hangar to your right and then pushes forwards towards the engine to take it out. Calvin lands heavily, the plating under him nearly buckling under his weight.

You don't see either Bernie or Elaine.

    YOUR ORDERS?

Bernie and Elaine know that if they missed their landing they should call for Dodais and regroup so I fell they know what to do. If they landed alright then they know their targets from last time. Trust in your team and all that jazz.

David should get out of Jol's firing range and hit the command bridge. If David smashed the command bridge when he landed on it then have him hit the secondary bridge if they have one. If not then wreck the hangars. Zol should be doing his thing in wrecking the hangars.

After the engines and bridge are gone we should wreck the hangers to stop enemy MS from coming out of them before finding new targets. Jol should keep any MS off our backs.

By the way what is Hovis doing? Waiting inside the OH MA hangar?

Or, failing that, find a way to steer it/push it into another Pegasus Class carrier? That last option seems very Zeonquest.

    Though I must say-

The OH is taking down one with Calvin, Hovis, and it's own Armament

The Commandos are trying to take down one by themselves

You prep a Stick-Bomb and quickly toss it over the lip of the opening bay before moving towards the side of the vessel to see what Bernies gotten himself into this time.

A somewhat muffled explossion occurs beneath you.

You see that Bernard must have missed his jump and hit the side again, this time however he had to use the magnetic clamps of his chain mine and entangle it with the portside beam cannons of this Pegasus.
One stray shot will likely detonate the entire chain mine, taking the main gun at the very least up it. Possibly Bernie as well. From the back of the ship you see the bright hot glow that Zolomon must have left with his Beam Lance, he seems intent on completely shearing off the entire engine block this time.

More details about just what he's managed to get himself into this time would be appreciated. We can’t really leave him a hanging target, but if can hold on for just a little bit we might all be able to pull him up and take out these guys at the same time.

You tell bernie to try and use his suit thrusters to swing up to the rearmost area whilst you try to get a status report from Elaine.

"Elaine? Where the hell are you?"

"Sorry sir! I missed my jump, but I was able to get a Dodai to pick me up. Fighting underneath is pretty bad, the Dodai's say they can't negotiate the fighter combat beneath this ship to catch us if we fall off."

    "You mean, fall off again."

    "Sorry sir."

You see Bernies Zaku Kai swing upwards, it's boosters flaring, unexceptedly it let's go of the chain-mine handle, a fraction of a second later you see why as the mines cook off and explode. A massive secondary explosion follows in multiple directions that shakes your footing.
You see Bernard swing up and over in a haphazard, but probably successful pattern, but before he can land, you, the ship and everyone else go into free-fall.

    "Shit!" Remarks Zolomon.

"I think I just hit something vital!" He understates.

You make a priority call to any Dodai units in the area to catch you before the carrier falls, you try to arrest your rate of decent and pull away from the falling vessel you gun your thrusters, but are mindful from pushing them too hard lest they become overtaxed if you have to land.

Luckily you see four Dodai planes risk the heavy air battle furiously going on around them and push through towards your scattered team. You push your thrusters harder and make a mid air link up with a Dodai.

Looking to your right you see the Pegasus that your infantry assault aflame from prow to stern. As you watch yet more explosions erupt from within. It is gradually sinking to the ground, a sure sign that the engines at least have been silenced, and whilst some flak turrets continue to fire, you haven't seen it launch mobile suits or fire it's beams in a while.

A check behind and on the radars reveals the Outer Heaven still in a deadly and hectic duel with numerous enemy fighters, and even a few flying mobile suits. She appears partially damaged, but ships agility appears to be taking the enemy by suprise and she's giving easily as good as she gets.
Beyond that however, you have distressing reports that a large consigment of the assault force is pulling back to try and relieve the carriers. You can't see anything in dark pre-dawn however.

On the Mashiba Team's side of things, one Gaw is descending to the ground in flames, whislt the other is badly damaged. On the far side you a see a Pegasus carrier falling to the ground cut into giant multiple chunks by repeated charges by their Gyan Marines Beam Lances. But you can only see three remaing mobile suits of the team, so it's clear that the approach has taken heavy losses (or possibly a number of them are grounded on the floor.)

That leaves one left, to which a large quantity of the displaced Mobile Suits and fighters are heading towards.

Okay, so, like people have pointed out, if you head to relieve the Outer Heaven, it will give the forces around the last remaining Pegasus time to regroup, that said, you'd be heading through them to get to the ship anyway, it's just now they're prepared and know your coming.

You could call for the Mashiba Team to releive the OH (with or without your help) or to head in for what is (in all fairness) one of their targets anyway.

If the circumstances were different, a different, more cynical Zeon team might have pointed out that they've taken out THEIR targets, and bugger off.

Relieving the last Gaw isn't really a possibility since the last carrier is between you and it anyway.
Cima's unit could do it though, whether it will is of course up to her.

So, which way do you want to go?

Agreed. I propose that we try and blitz the last carrier before all the converging forces can organize a defense. If Hovis can get a point on the carrier, have Calvin support him with radar and all and see if he could lob a shot up there to disrupt it.

As for the Mashiba team, I still think it'd be best to have them try and regroup with the OH then head after us. Once we get on the carrier and don't need our dodais anymore, we can send them back to pick up the Mashiba team if the OH is too entangled.

You signal to Cima with your plan, the connection is bad due to minovsky interference but you get the message through.

You meanwhile turn to face the growing consolidating mess of enemy forces orbiting your final target. You see several Mobile Suits dismount from their flying armours onto the top of the Pegasus. The armours trail behind decendning in height, you see their pilots eject and the planes fall to the ground evidently out of fuel.

Scanning quickly you take stock of the enemy forces arrayed against you:
It appears to be somewhere of the region of 15 to 20 mobile suits (mostly basic GM's but you see some more advanced models here and there.) on flight armours or the Pegasus and at least 30 to 40 enemy fighters, in a mix of Saber Fish and FF-7s.

As well as whatever's inside the ships hangers currently (assuming that there is anything.)

The Gaw is taking a widening orbit taking it away from the enemy concentration, it's still being harassed by some fighters but it's probably not enough to down it though as the lionshare of them have moved in to support the last Pegasus.

This is going to be tough one, considering that your Gelgoogs weight is going to impact on the Dodai's maneouvability.

You order Jolyne and Elaine to snipe from a distance with their beam weapons, whilst the rest of your team storm in with a blitzkreig attack, to attempt to strike at Zolomons weakspot using your beam weapons whilst Bernard attempts to keep the enemy off your back.

Behind you you detect increased explosions as the Mashiba Team meets with the Outer Heaven and engages the forces against it.

Sporadic missile fire falls around you, but at this distance Bazooka's are inaccurate, and slow enough for you to dodge when they come your way. You're still out of range of the Beam Spray Gun, but you keep you're eyes peeled for enemies with longer ranged beam guns.

Speaking of which, at this point Jolyne and Elaine break left from the rest of you, after a few seconds you see a trio of yellow beams lance out.
    Explosions follow.

"Here goes nothing" you mumble to yourself as you begin your attack run.

All three of you open up with a heavy barrage of suppressing fire on the rightmost portion of the orbiting defenders, the hope is to take enough down and force those surviving out of position to hit you at close range with massed Beam Spray fire.

A mixture of beams, Panzerfausts, bullets and missiles craze through the area, hitting targets and forcing others to break formation like a disrupted flock of birds.
Taking advantage of this momentary confusion the three of you surge through the opening, you see Bernie pump a grenade from his launcher at the enemy mobile suits mounted on top of the ship, a GM takes it on his shield but the explosion and smoke hides you from them for a few seconds and their shots largely go wild, although Bernie takes some damage to the left shoulder.

You fire before clearing the front superstructure, trying to guestimate the location of Zolomons spot and whilst three shots from your beam carbine stabe into the heard of the vessel, none of them seem to have hit it.
Zolomon joins in with his shield beamguns, but they are if anything even less powerful than yours and even though he fires a rapid barrage, non make the shot.

You have a fraction of a second as you pass over the bridge, flak, bullets, rockets and beams flying about you to direct a second burst from behind but again no joy. Zolomon lashes out with his Beam Lance, but his timing a fraction off, and he instead scores a mighty gash on it's portside engine block. The bright lights of it's fusion drive go dim.

Well at least you scored some damage.

You scream towards the rearmost defenders, you toss a flashbang into their midst, and take advantage of their momentary blindness to escape outwards.

You take stock. Both your's and Bernards Dodai have taken damage, in Bernards lost an engine (out of 4) and you've lost a control surface. Bernards Zaku Kai has taken beam damage to the left shoulder and right lower leg, as well as several points of armour badly damaged by bullets and missiles on the upper torso and forearm.
Your shield has deflected the worst of it, and aside from some minor bullet damage the Act-Zaku appear undamaged.
Zolomon's Gyan Krieger already had a partially damaged left arm from when the Pegasus blew up in face almost, but judicious use of his thrusters and verniers have kept the worst off in this assault, a couple of areas are scored by bullets or blackened by explosives, but nothing that appears to have greatly troubled the armour plating.
Jolyne and Elaine continue to plink away.

The defences are disorganized by your blitzkrieg assault, but will quickly reform back into a decent escort pattern.
However, the Mashiba team and the OH are still finishing off it's pursuers and won't be able to assist you in your second pass if you charge now.

The Gaw is looping around to face your direction, but it's a good 2 to 3 minutes out at best.

Zolomon and Bernie score the rear area with firepower as they go over the top. Explosions obscure the true extent of the damage and then you pass under it, scoring the underside of the vessel with your beam carbine, looking for Zolomon's point. All the while having to make tortuous acrobatic manouvers to keep yourself alive.
A heavy salvo of rockets hit's you in the back, and alarm warnings sound, alerting you to your rear thrusters taking damage. They still look operational for now, but their tolerances will probably suffer, the magnetic clamps groan as you invert yourself and fire another burst behind you, scoring a trio of fighter kills and forcing the rest to pull off before righting yourself.

Above you, you hear Zolomon swear and Bernard yelp in suprise.
"Boss! My Dodai's took heavy damage, and Bernie just lost an arm! I can push her with my own thrusters back to the Outer Heaven, but I don't know if me and Bernie can push through their fighter shield!"

"Hold on! We'll move in to open a door for you!" Jolyne responds. You see the rate of fire from the support beams increase and Zolomon also adds his own firepower to this. Of Bernard there is no sign, it looks like he lost his rifle arm.

And so your dark work begins.

The first trio of beam shots kill the nearest GM without setting off it's reactor, you push forwards, using it's corpse as a shield against the enemies in front of you as you spray at those on the adjacent hangar block, your fire takes out two before they have the time to fire back at you, and the beam shot of the third (a GM command) scorches through the location where your feet were moments ago as you leap forwards ramming yourself, your shield and the dead GM into the one behind it.
The pilot must be relatively skilled as he pushes the ruined GM to the side, off into the night, hoping to take you with-it. Still mid-air you pulse verniers and thrusters into a horizontal spin, rolling with his proverbial punch, El Muerto Grande's foot lashes out in a mid-air roundhouse kick. It catches the enemy cleanly on the head and knocks the entire enemy mobile suit off the side and out of this fight.
The last one on this side is charging towards you his beam saber ignited, his head vulcans firing.
You accerate your downwards motion with more vernier use and land awkwardly, none-the-less your innacurate beam shots manage to land one good shot on it's leg, forcing it to fall face first onto the deck. You leap over the prone mobile suit, more to avoid the GM commands fire than anything, and put a finishing 3 shots into the GM as you go overhead. The explosion carriers you up slightly and you manage to finish the leaping dodge manouver in cover behind some ruined remains of the bridge and your Dodai. With the Orbiting forces currently unwilling to target you for fear of downing the carrier.

Hmm. I wonder what would happen if we got inside the hangar and started tearing the ship apart from there? Is there easy access?

    If not, priority IMHO is:

    1) Destruction of the now-likely-damaged bridge
    2) Destroy the undamaged engine
    3) Dump a pile of explosives into the gaping hole in the damaged engine and see if we can't just crack this thing open like a ripe melon.
    4) Getting out of this with a chance of living through the impact with the ground.

Oddly enough, the crowd on the deck is our best defense. Going through them may well mean they shoot up the ship and each other trying to hit us, while we have no such problem...

You turn to finish the remaining enemy.
There is a flash of blue, a shower of sparks, and n explosion, the enemy is gone, a massive glowing gouge in the hanger bay and like some kind of blue fireball, the shape has rocketted off, colliding with another enemy out in the orbiting zone destroying it utterly ricocheting off it towards another target like some kind of demonic pinball and all you can hear through your radio is a subsonic whine like a thousand souls wailing in unending torment and agony.

You really need to have that looked at.

You quickly take stock, it looks like the Mashiba Team has finally joined battle, and those heavy beam cannon shots can only be from the Outer Heaven. You catch movement above you and you fire your beams upwards, catching one of the enemy Desert GM's and it explodes. The others land successfully on the now noticibly tilting carrier and dive towards you, beam saber's drawn.

Your Carbine's out of charge, and you just had time to replace it with your Heat Hawk, as the five GM's (2 more Desert types, a Land Combat model and a pair of GM Cold Climate types) leap at you. Your first slash disembowels one, the attack of another is deflected thanks to your Gundam Shield (the techs told you it *could* do it, but damn if you weren't keen to find out.) You leap up and hit another GM with a spinning back-kick before it can finish it's own leap, knocking it against the side of the port hangar block and down below.
Yet more sparks fly from gouge carved in it by (what you assume to be) Cima's machine.

You backstep away from the fifth's downwards slash, and then notice the Beam Pistol in the 4ths hands. A pair of brilliant yellow lines slice cleanly through both and Jolyne, her Gelgoog Cannon moving almost impossibly fast. So fast that there are moments it's just a blur even to you, and with her shoulder beam cannon firing so fast it's muzzle is visibly white hot, lands beside you.

"Can we finish this fight now?" Jolyne asks.
He question is punctuated by Cima making another lighting speed pass, slamming into the rear superstructure, there is another great plume of sparks and flame as she ricochets off.

To be honest, it probably wouldn't have been that effective if the south side of the bridge hadn't had the fuck blown out of it on your way in, plus it's one of those tricks that would only work at close range.

Plus you'd need to be a fairly good pilot to pull it off so it'd have any force hitting the target.

The ship is currently aflame and with huge holes in it. At least one engine has been taken out, it's got some kind of demented pinball of doom whacking into it in a faster and faster pace (which explains what happened to the first Pegasus the Mashiba Team targeted) and the Bridge sections has been basically blown apart.

A third strike from Cima hit's close to where she took the GM Command out eariler, and there is a grotesque sound of shearing metal as the entire port hangar block shears away from the ship and falls to the ground below.
The ship is now practically rolling in all directions trying to keep itself afloat and failing.

With nothing left at this pount but to put the ship out of it's misery you have Jolyne keep them off you, whilst you bundle up every single grenade you have on you, set the timer and toss into the gaping smoking hole left by your Dodai.

"Time to leave." you order and both of you leap off the side. A massive explosion blooms overhead. Just at this moment Cima slams into the underside of the ship directly underneath the explosion. Another spray of flame and sparks jet's out, and as she bounces off, it becomes evident as secondary explosions start to wrack the ship, that that last attack has tore the ship in half. It begins to fall at a normal rate, flaming wreckage falling off of it.

    STOP THE CLOCK!
    TIME REMAINING: 5 MINUTES 44.

NORTHERN SUPPORT SHIPS DESTROYED IN 9 MINUTES 26 SECONDS!

You are currently in free-fall, heading towards the earth at a decent pace. Not wanting to land to close to where the falling carrier (well, pieces of) are going to hit you push your thrusters to move you away.
There's an unwholsome sensation from behind you, the thrusters on your back sputter ineffectively and red malfunction lights begin screaming at you as your primary thrusters fail.

"I have a problem here. My primary backpack thrusters have failed, I can't make a safe unassisted landing, can anyone assist?"

"Jolyne here, I lost my Dodai on the way into the defence area, and I can barely land safely with just my own weight here. Suggest you bail out."

"Not a problem, but if anyone has a better suggestion I'm all ears."

On the rear-view sensors you catch sight of a couple of fighters coming your way, possibly spotting your thurster problems. You've got a flight arrestor jetpack in the cockpit, but you don't fancy your chances outside, and you'd rather save the Act Zaku if you could...

You load a fresh E-Clip into the Carbine, using your maneouver thursters only turn and take out the encroaching trio of fighters. It's got them off your back for now, but those beam shots will atract attention.

"Good morning sir! I hear you're in need of a little lift?" comes a fair to sprightly signal to your left as a Dodai, weathering the firefight sails through to you.

"Ensign Ringo said you needed us more than he did, so he stepped off. He was probably close enough to leap back aboard the Outer Heaven anyway."

Silently praising Zolomon Ringo, you align and dock with your ride home. You then open the general Zeon Combat frequency.

I'm pretty sure we have the room for the Mashiba team as well. Jolyne, try to make it back to base as quickly as you can, don't get caught behind enemy lines."

A chorus of affirmatives and rogers follow.
Presently Garma's signal through the laser-comm link appears.

"Thank you Commander, I knew I could rely on you to do the impossible. The entire northern force is either retreating or dismounting. It's going to be a ground war again commander, but get yourself out of the way of the retreating units, they're certain to be out for blo... " a new flashing item on his HUD catches his attention.

"Never mind watch out for retreating units, the fuckers are already here!" as if to punctuate his statement a console behind him explodes behind him.

You manage to somewhat haphazardly land inside the hangar bays scraping along the sides with your Dodai in some parts. You quickly put your suit into the hanger repair rack, and are promptly swarmed by techs to try and fix your thruster problems. To your left you see Zolomon getting some work done on his left shoulder, and across the hanger, Bernards Zaku Kai is getting a new arm fitted.

About a minute later Elaine joins you, she lands awkwardly inside though and skids across the luckily cleard hangar area. Otherwise her suit seems fine though.

The Outer Heaven rocks again, and some of the lighting flickers momentarily.

"What's that status out there Anita?" you ask as you remount the Act Zaku to use the comms system.

"We're under heavy fire, and we're having difficulty picking up the last of the Mashiba team! It's not looking good sir, even we hit full thrust we might not make it out alive! I don't know what even Captain Mauser can... oh my god! It's the second Gaw!"

You would later learn than the other Gaw, now dying, passed over the top of the Outer Heaven passing as close a 1.5 meters, providing your ship with vital cover and then screaming like some mad bull in the pamplona run into the mass of assembled enemy mobile suits before it eventually carved a burning gouge 3 kilometers long into the earth. Finishing just outside the perimeter of Odessa HQ.

You of course only knew at the time that something had happened that had allowed the Outer Heaven to pick up the third Mashiba Team member and hit the burners.

After about 2 minutes. Garma resumes his link with you.

You push on, working doubltime on trying to get as many as your suits and the Mashiba Team's up to working order.
Bombarding from the Outer Heaven is mostly out, as she expended all of her munitions earlier.
Repairs on the Mashiba Team are slow due to the fact that the MA pod isn't the best place for it.

You clear around the enemy forces, now beginning to dig in, using foritications meant to keep them out for protection. The nondescript build of mountain 112 raises up, your target illuminated by your tactical HUD.

"Okay gentlemen here's the plan, we don't know what sort of timetable we've got to work with here, so we can't stop and wait for anything. We're going to hit the site at top speed and make a LANO drop directly ontop of them. You see an open launch bay door, you toss every damn grenade you have down there and run like hell you hear me? Also, signal it's location back to Hovis, and he'll follow up with a continous button-hole barrage to make sure. If your suit isn't ready, you go as you are. You have 3 minutes to get everything ready, or in a state you can do this in.
Enemy MS troops haven't reached that area, and we don't think the Loyalist Zeons have any mobile suits. But don't take that for granted and keep your eyes peeled. Got it?"

Everyone responds, greatly aware at just what's at stake.

    Within minutes the time's up.

"I did what I could, you should make a LANO drop, but don't push them too hard or they'll just melt away. Use the Verniers like you've been doing and you'll go further!" Ookawara tells you.

You thank him and drop onto the mountain. You legs take most of the strain of the fall.

    "Calvin, report!"

"I haven't got any suspicious heat sources or Sonar contacts from the mountain, I'm moving in for a closer look. Don't we have any intel on the bases location?"

"No, we know it's layout and configuration but all we know is that it's definately on the mountain!"

Frantically you all search for the launch bay. You push forwards towards the peak, constantly scanning the topographical map for viable spots.

"Heat contact! Just ahead from you!"

You look up, and see steam venting from the cavernous and unseen recess between an opening pair of giant swing bay doors. You call for the rest of the team to get here on the double, and relay the position to Hovis redundantly as he';s already firing.
You scramble upwards but at a crucial moment your feet push against loose rocks and slip, as your mobile suit crashes against the side of the rockface you hear cries from the rest of the team, and know that the missile has been launched.

You push yourself up, servo's complaining at their rough treatment. You fire a heavy salvo off at the rapidly climbing missile, but your carbine's accuracy is poor, and the shots just go wide, scorching the missile.

"SOMEBODY SHOOT DOWN THAT MISSILE!" You howl on the open frequencies to anything that can hear.

You see shots from the Outer Heaven, still trailing smoke from it's previous battle rain around it, but the Heavy anti-capital ship cannons are unsuited for taking down the small target. It flies towards the missile like a bullet, and for a second you think it intends to ram it, but it slides away and around at the last minute avoiding it, it's fire still not taking the missile down.

You're getting desperate now, and Elaine takes a couple of shots behind you, but they fall just wide.

    "Elaine, give me your gun."

    "What?"

    "DO IT."

Cowed by your command, she tosses you the beam rifle. Your computer logs in the new weapon, and sychonises the power flow.
You zoom in to the missile.
    You aim the weapon.
    You carefully adjust your aim.
    You exhale
    You pull the trigger.

At that point, not one, but 4 lances of beam fire pierced the nuclear weapon, from three completely different directions.
Two of them were the distinctive purple of federation beam weapons as well.
A massive nuclear explosion resulted that blinded your sensors momentarily, and the caused several of your non-key systems to go down due to EMP.

"Outer Heaven here, we had to deal with some turbulence, but otherwise were a-ok."

You have the Outer Heaven link in with Odessa HQ.

"The missile has been taken down, can anyone give me a status report?"

    Garma appears.

"That EMP took out several unsheilded components in the command network. Our Gigan AA forces against the western salient were cut off from each other, and the enemy has managed to destroy them with minimal losses, they have already crossed Odessa, and are making combat drops into the HQ! We've also lost contact with about 50% of our other forces, and with the attack, we don't have time to repair the damage! Furthermore we have just confirmed it, Federation forces were able to push back our space assets sufficiently to orbitally land another MS battalion, we believe them to be aces from Jaburo."

    "Shit."

"I'm afraid that Rear-Admiral M'Quve has given the order to evacuate Odessa. Luckily, I've pursuaded him not to use the nukes. But every friendly unit is to retreat from the battlefield and back to safe zones in Africa, China, America, or space at best speed and possibility. "But sir!"

    "NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED"

There were three words that above all else Wyatt Bandit had never wished to see or hear again in lifetime.
Evidently Zeon had gotten desperate, and had made an unthinkable decision.

He wondered if he could fault them. If Operation Odessa had been scheduled a week or maybe even a day later, would it have been his side, terrified at the prospect of losing Jaburo who would have pushed the button?

He didn't know, and frankly he had more pressing things to worry about right now. He opened his link to the HLV crew.

    "Open my door. Now."

    "But..."

    "Now."

The crewman flustered for what might be crucial seconds and then popped the hatches, the other 2 mobile suits left the pod as he did, but he was focused on the bright star of the nuclear missiles single stage thrusters.

"Good luck" Karen bids him from her Guncannon.

He doesn't answer, he's concentating on other things.

his mobile suit seems to float through free-fall, it's alignment ruthless kept with judicious use of leg controlled verniers.

Wyatt zoomed in further until he could make out the black mass of the missile amidst the gradually coming dawn.
    The missile reaches it's apex.

The G-3 Gundam takes the shot.

    OMAKE 2

Elaine dashed along the MS scale trenchwork intended for a siege that never came.
She took out some of the disordered GM's to her left with shot from her beam rifle. Ammo was getting low, she was going to have to start using the Naginta soon.

She was getting sporadic radio messages and reports, nothing was sounding good.
She'd seen the Outer Heaven taking off, and heard enough to know that things had taken a turn for the worse.

She was heading in that general direction, hoping to avoid detection or running into any main federation forces on the way.

She took out a second GM as she continued.

Presently she realised that evidently time was up, as she spotted through her Long Range optics the distinctive heat flare of a nuclear missile launch from the distant mountains.
She mentally rechecked the supposed maximum range of her beam cannon mounted on the shoulder. In THEORY she could probably only reach about half the distance, before atmospheric attenuation reduced the beam to "non-lethal" levels and made the beam begin to curve away. Of course "Non-Lethal" for a Mobile Suits is different to "Non-Lethal" for a small missile.
In order to hit the missile you would have to literlly work out how to arc a beam into it by taking gravity and atmopheric effects into account.

Jolyne stopped moving. Aimed. Time seemed to slow as she focused closer and closer on the problem, magentic field variations, seismic micro-tremors, wind speed, air density, ambient temperature bands, the state of her Beam Cannon, she bagan compiling every tiny scrap of information her suit could afford her.
Presently she became aware of an enemy behind her.

"You can either shoot me now, or wait for me to shoot this nuclear missile down and shoot me then."

    Luckily, he did.

    She pressed the trigger.

In the brilliant light that followed, the enemy GM Sniper II pulled the trigger at effective point blank.
He didn't have time to think anything witty or even show suprise before Jolyne melted a two meter hole clean through where the cockpit used to be with her beam rifle.

He simply had not, or rather could not, see her move at the speed that she did to avoid the shot, turn and fire.

"This is beginning to get easier..." Jolyne remarked to herself.
She dodged the combined fire from a pair of Cold Climates, armed only with Machine Guns, she buried her beam Najinta deep into the chest of one, pulled away and precisely parried five more bullets with the blade before finishing the other with her shoulder cannon.

An alarm politely sounded to tell her she was down to 20 shots from the Beam Cannon.

It was she concluded, time to stop showing off and go home.
