    Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/12343410/

Behold, Dolemite Deadlift, Hero of the Imperium! Or, more realistically, hero of a naval engagement in the boondocks of the Ultima Segmentum. In his first official action as Rogue Trader, the new traveler of the stars left the unclaimed planet unexplored to turn his attention elsewhere and come to the aid of Imperial forces fighting against Orks in stolen Tau ships. The late arrival of the Igneus Aequitas turned the table on the foul Xenos, shifting the battle in the favor of the righteous Imperial defenders. Immediately Captain Deadlift deployed three squadrons under command of his Voidmaster Gabriel to defend a space station orbiting the gas giant nearby. The swift and deadly Igneus then danced about the battlefield, turrets and void shields protecting it from whatever fire it could dodge.

The decisive blow that won the battle was the cross fire between the Igneus’ Titanforge Lance and the strike cruiser’s broadsides that caught the ork’s flagship, a miniature spacehulk, in a pincer movement. The foul algamtion of stolen ships was destroyed in short order by the fierce combination of weaponry, but not before damaging the macrocannon’s on the Igneus Aequitas.

With the battle won, Dolemite Deadlift is left on the bridge, as he listens to various reports of incoming messages from remaining imperials ships, as well as constantly updated information on the damage sustained. One of the bridge members, a cute red head in her mid twenties, announces that the captain of strike cruiser has requested a meeting.

Immediately set up a meet with the captain. Time to sort this stuff out. Also get to work on repairs, analysis of damage, and see how far this will set us back from exploring the planet.

Send a response asking for the strike cruiser to give us an approach vector. Have the Tech priests begin damage assessments and casualty lists. Recall our fighters and head for wherever we're going to dock with the cruiser with our Seneschal in two.

    two = tow

Also we should probably strike a humble pose when we first meet the captain. It's entirely possible that there's some animus between regular military and rogue traders, and even if there isn't we don't want to threaten the commander of the cruiser's authority by looking like we're trying to grab credit.

The seneschal hands you a damage report on the macrocannons. Twenty of the three hundred batteries were damaged, and over two hundred people were killed or injured. Warp jumps are still possible, though dangerous for those in immeadiate area of the damage.

As for the meeting, the seneschal says that if you wish, the Igneus will be ready in position to coordinate and dock in thirty minutes.

How long will it take before repairs allow us to jump to warp safely?

Tell Jeff he can take what he can use from the dead, but the wounded are off limits, and to be discreet about it.

Have Jet prepare a closed casket service for the dead, let us know when it will be.

Dock with the strike cruiser. It'd be rude to turn down a face to face meeting, especially since we're damaged.

You send a message to H1256-J47, who after a couple of minutes of computations replied it would take three to four days to rebuild the ship, provided the necessary materials were supplied. Given that your in the middle of nowhere in space, that may be a problem.

Jet, thankfully is able to comply with your request without much trouble. A number of the dead where lost to space in the explosion. Only seventy were kept on the ship, the rest unrecoverable. Of those seventy, roughly fifty or so are dead, the rest quickly transported to the medi-bay. The funeral can be arranged in three days time, so that a census of the lost can take place.

The seneschal nods in acknowledgement, and exits the bridge, presumably to retrieve your dashing hat. Unlike the gold hat, which came with the ship, that particular feathered cap was acquired during your time in Ordo Xenos, where you stole it from a smuggler lord who was transporting Tau material to imperial worlds. It has seen you through thick and thin, and if you’re going to meet some big important captain, you need whatever edge you can get.

The seneschal soon returns with your dashing hat, and you leave the bridge to head to the docking area. As you exit, you ask your seneschal to set up a state room, so that there might be somewhere to speak with the captain, to your surprise he informs you he has already had the crew begin construction one while he went to get your hat. You are pleased with his work, and continue along the way to the docking area.

The seneschal only nods when you ask him to accompany you, though you think you see a bit of a smile in his eyes. Weird. Roughly a half hour and an Elevatus ride later, the ship has docked and you are at the docking bay. Several “tubes” have linked up with the strike cruiser, making it possible to simply walk the distance to ship. However, the seneschal points out you have two options: You can walk over to his ship, and be a guest there at his mercy, or you could have him meet you here. However, the latter option has the possibility of offending the captain.

“A clever compromise,” the seneschal notes with a mixture of pride and surprise. Surely no one would try anything there. During your time in the Inquisition, you remember how everyone in the navy would pay you the utmost respect provided they knew who you worked for. However, it was not always the case with Rogue Traders. In the end, it depended on the captain and the Trader and how they reacted to someone who could refuse to give them whatever they wanted.

The seneschal and you walk down the “tube,” and after fifteen minutes find yourself in the middle of the tube greeted by several ensigns. Five of them in total, the apparent leader bows before you, before requesting you accompany them to the ship where the captain is waiting to hold a banquent in your honor.

The two of you follow the Ensigns, and listen them thank you for your aid in the battle. The strike cruiser and its escort had been inconstant battle for almost three days against the ork fleet, and while several more Imperial ships had shown up to aid, it was the Igneus that had turned the tide and help the cruiser win the battle. The captain of the strike cruiser, which now has now been revealed to be named the Blade of Redemption, was adamant about thanking you in person. When you inquire about his name, the ensigns reveal him to be Captain Cetus. To your left, the seneschal seems to take note of this.

“Of course, I understand. I myself have not had time to particularly enjoy meals lately. That battle lasted for too long, and I look forward to eating heartily,” he says with a small laugh. The other officers behind him laugh each laugh their own laugh, some awkward and forced, the others tired yet genuine.

Captain Cetus leads the seneschal and you from the docking bay to you assume the dining galley. Along the way, Cetus explains how the battle began. The Blade of Redemption and it’s retinue of smaller ships were patrolling the area for pirates. Recently, there had been reports of pirates, and it was believed the Tau were paying them off to attack merchant ships. The fleet arrived at the space station as a staging ground; it performed a standard patrol, and began to make preparations to leave when the Orks arrived in their stolen ships. The battle was deadly in the beginning, and for two days the fleets where locked in a stalemate. It was the Igneus’ arrival that turned the table, and allowed the Blade to secure victory.

Smalltalk with captain Cetus as we walk "I noticed the Orks had their hands on alot of Tau hardware, either they're pillaging the Tau military at will or the blue bastards are desperate enough to try bribing the greenskins or hiring them as mercenaries. I wonder if this means a collapse is in the cards, or a fresh invasion from their Sept worlds."

He nods, and says with a serious tone, “I noticed too. While it is most likely they just stole, or ‘looted’ the ships as those foul Xenos say, I wouldn’t doubt the foolishness of the Tau to attempt to hire orks to do their bidding. I’ve never heard of an ork actually working for someone other than another ork though.”

He nods solemnly, and says, “Perhaps, but we would need to repair first, and prepare a new fleet as well as alert the guard. That will take weeks, if not months. I have heard, however, there is a space marine fleet around here somewhere. They are likely not in this subsector, but somewhere in the greater sector on a crusade against greenskins. I have no idea which chapter, but if any of Him on Earth’s sons could accompany us, it would ensure our revenge to be a success. Alas, I have no idea where they are to entreat for their aid.”

As he finishes up his little speech, you all arrive in the galley. A magnificent table, easily capable of seating dozens of men, it is laden with kinds of foods you haven’t seen in since your retirement party from the Inquisition.

“A lost world, you say?” the captain responds, his eyebrows rising. His interest clearly risen, he says, “I have heard of something like that myself. Supposedly it is an unexplored, unclaimed world. However, a lost world implies humans, possibly where a colony could be established.” As he takes a seat at the head of the table, he contemplates this new information.

Striking a serious thinking pose, he says, mostly to himself, “This is very interesting news. If there are humans, there, it is our duty to bring them the Emperor’s light. No doubt the Tau know of this as well, perhaps they have established a colony of their own there? That could be where the pirates are coming from. And even if they aren’t, a planet such as that would either have enough raw materials to or an infrastructure to help boost the repair rate of our ships.”

It would he been explored more recently, but the currents of the Immaterium was against any trip until lately.” He stops speaking as plates of food are handed out. He begins to eat in a decidedly refined manner, and asks when it becomes appropriate to speak, “So, you said you served in the Inquisition?”

While their mission is pure and holy, I do not envy those such as you who have had to deal with such matters as concerns them. As for the planet, I naturally have the best information. It would be foolish to travel the stars looking for pirates without knowing where you’re going. Indeed, the planet I speak of was one of my intended stops. Perhaps I should go first, to inspect the planet. Given that you attended another one, it is still possible that there are orks or Tau waiting there, preparing for another strike.”

Take a sip of your wine. Let your attention wander around the dining room.

"There is absolutely no reason why such a backwater would attract the notice or attention of the commander of the flagship of a fleet. So... there are two questions."

Lean back in the chair and meet his gaze again.

A man like me wants for little; I have a ship, thousands of men at my every command, and the wealth of the Imperium supporting me. What sort of deal could be advantageous for me?”

If you go back that your fleet found a hidden base, on a backwater world nearly gone from the imperial maps and smashed it protecting the sector... Well that's another thing altogether isn't it?"
