Chapter 6: The Time in Between- Part 2

Griska approaches the troubled woman. Its not often that she gets up from her spot to intervene, much less do it walking. However, a bullet turned against a human would cause far more damage and bring that same old war back for everyone else: When Killing was based on hatred. When War was a word that involved brother against brother.

Indeed no other bullet was suitable, and no other gun would fire the distance that she was going to fire. This shot had to have been flying the distance of a century or more to pierce this child's inner turmoil.

Neither do I. The only one with enough insight to the matter is GRainy, and her refusal to explain just makes it harder for Anon to decide what to do with Stormy.

    . . . Let's try to do with this?

"This the thing you been talking about in chopper? As you modern kids like say now, 'Fuck the game, fuck the rules'. Do whatever you want. The Motherland I once loved, once fought for, blood and sweat and tears, and yes, pound of flesh, has changed. I would lay my life down for Her, for family, friends. But now they are dead, even great Mother Russia is pale thing compared to what She used to be." Pause. Look over the barricade.

"I leave. Motherland need me no more. Fuck Motherland. I look for peace, no found it, I do not look for it anymore. I sell my skill, look for fulfillment somewhere else."

"Fuck them, yes? Find fun, find... Happiness somewhere else."

"You've been given a free ticket to a sandbox with all the little toys and possibilities you've ever wanted and imagined. Nobody will stop you as you ply your trade - hell child, they'll commend you for it. I saw your face earlier, when you blew up that building, that feeling of raw ecstasy. Don't deny it - I'm a fucking sniper, I see all. Now tell me, you weren't happy."

"And seven years? Seven years, working hard for your due, little girl? Well, I'd say this is it. And if you're looking for love, why don't you open your eyes and look around you? There are some nice boys around here, ya know. Ahh, if only I was a couple decades younger..."

A Matroiska Shell casing is passed on.

    A curse overpowered.

    A countdown started.

Hal warns you that even though she's infected- using an anti virus- might be too much of a strain on her. The mutation needed to be immune to it requires the extended DNA strands that people possessed during their youth.

The 2nd Gen would be no better either. However, a slight chance exists where she might-

It was then that Griska reached out a pleading hand, and requested that she only be patched up. And placed back on her nest.

    Hal's Log:

The thing works like an antidote item in RPGs. works againt strains when they emerge. Potentially fatal if used while not sick.

The effect is virtually instant since it will stop the progression of a virus as soon as it is introduced in the same system.

2nd Gens are a derivative of a primal 1st gen. Meaning that should a 2nd gen fail to cure a strain, you would need to resort to the basic anti virus. For now, all the zeds share the same blood discoloration: Black- variations of Black and white- I can only imagine that a new strain would exist as a different color.

Well... if we use a weak enough dose, we can simply double the time she has left- and that doesn't require any kind of age pre requisite.

Another idea that might work is... well... find someone who was naturally immune and see if blood transfusion is possible. But that kind of statistic is one in a million. And testing people that are like that would require quite a bit of work.

I take it that the weakened dose will not result in the debilitating fever?
We need more time, and anything that can get us more should be investigated.

Tell Griska when she wakes up that we're going to give her the smaller dosage, in order to keep her going through the noon-day assault. After that, we can try the transfusion idea. We can take a blood sample from Griska now, and begin comparing it to currently immunized blood samples to find a match.

Now that we have a non-lethal version of the Cure, we need to make a general purpose version that can work on any age group.

We should ring up the President and see if he can air-lift in more volunteer bio-chemists and equipment who can help in producing more batches of the 2nd Gen. Cure, while air-lifting out samples for the outside scientific community to analyze.

Right, like taking suicide pills or eating a bullet is any more of a warrior's death.

Besides, Griska is a sniper. They operate under a different warrior's code than other soldiers (speaking of soldiers, there is a fine line between professional and warrior, and I think Griska falls on the professional side).

Can't the scientists find ways to prevent the virus from continuing its replication in the body? Some agent that would interfere in the viruses ability to replicate itself by messing up the replication machinery? Even if that doesn't cure it, it would buy a lot of time since it would limit the viruses ability to carry out its effects.

Griska doesn't seem to be the type to want to languish and die in a bed, even if we were trying to save her life. Probably return her to her nest so she can snipe as many zombies as possible, then have someone take the killshot on her before the timer runs down.

For some reason I'm thinking of Stormy making a suicide vest with a deadman switch or something, so it'll blow the moment Griska turns.

We still want to clear out the Stadium and the Gym first, right?
Then, we can set up units on top of the garage and the East Wing of the dorms. That will provide a good killzone when the Gates collapse.
We might want Stormy and the Molotov Krew setting the zombie hordes outside the campus on fire until the noon bell rings, to try to reduce their numbers.

So it's roughly ten now right? Two hours till the big assault. Is the stadium still making noise? I still think it needs to be cleared out before the assault, but considering how things went in the main building that might not be such a good idea. Perhaps just arrange the motorkrieg in a blockade to keep any zombies that wonder down off our back? They wont be much use during the assault anyway, the space is too confined. Unless of course the south gate gets overrun. They could cover a retreat then. Speaking of gates. We should fortify the back gate before the assault and place two or three guards there during the assault, just the keep an eye on it. We can't just block the back gate off like we did the others though, it's our escape route after all. So whatever we do to it it still needs to be able to open quickly. And no having Stormy rig it to blow isn't a good idea. That would just be asking for the gate to blow up at the worst possible time.

Use the same strategy in the "Walking Dead" comic.

Open up one door, barricade and block the others, line up everyone with a gun outside it (preferably with barricades/swat cops with shields)

Destroy anything that comes out with concentrated overwhelming firepower.

Have Bea there to use "Throw down" if the zombie boss rears his head.

2 tanks against the zombie hordes, 1 at each gate, sounds like it'll give us better odds than just 1.

Also, we now have enough people that we should be able to perform multiple missions simultaneously.

Also, it looks like the dogs don't like Z-Immune either.

...the Gym is smaller, probably easier to takeover, but same logic says we can leave it for last.

    Okay how about this -

Mission One: Operation - Hide and Seek

Bea, Dolittle, Rainy, and half the SS hit the Gym. Make a quick search for Survivors with the dogs. If we don't find any, have Stormy rig the whole damn thing to go up like a firecracker on the Fourth of July. Perhaps have it so it explodes in the shape of the Russian flag - a dedication to Lady Griska.

Mission Two: Operation - Teacher Tank

Dom, Rana, and North Star mount up in El Red and head for Shady Groves. Locate Mr. Miller (shouldn't be too hard), recruit and return.

    Mission Three: Operation - Overtime

Hit the Stadium with the big guns - all assault with Snake, Charlie, the BCB, the Riot Squad, the SS, and the Molotov Krew. Ready and Griska give fire support while the B Team regroups with them if they finish with the Gym. Bring in Iron Snails if there's an entrance big enough.

My problem with all these plans is, as Journal stated, we only have 2 hours. Even if we pull all of them off and succeed, we're going to likely have wounded and tired people. I imagine we'll want to be as fresh and strong as possible when the gates go down although I think hitting the stadium might be best, just in case they come out when the gates go down.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/10(Wed)00:47 No.12585102

We need to hit both the Stadium and the Gym, though. According to Se7en's recon, they both contain zombies and boss fights. If the Main Building was any indication, there will also be leveled zombies, too.
Being tired and wounded is unavoidable, unless we want to deal with a pincer attack from the zombies coming out of the two buildings.

I disagree. The added firepower and ability to park one tank per Gate far outweighs the loss of three melee types in a fight where melee types would be overwhelmed by sheer mass.

At least with a tank at each gate, they can act as decoys and bait, while the zombies that go after them (particularly leveled zombies) are picked off by the Book Club and Griska.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/10(Wed)00:54 No.12585172
    >>12585160
Melee types would be useful at taking out the leveled zombies and I'm just not sure if 2 hours is enough time to get the tank. Based on the map, it seemed kind of far and we shouldn't assume the trip will be peachy and without incident.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/10(Wed)01:00 No.12585235
    >>12585172

However, if we do pull it off, we can have the tiger tank rush the zombies from the outside. Zombie mass or no, I doubt a tank that's capable of going through a building will have a problem with a large mass of people.

Anyway, we should combine the first and last mission. First both original groups move as one, then park themselves outside the stadium and mow down any zeds that come out. Secondary team moves off to pull survivors out from the gym, with the others acting as reserves and holding the exterior. Once survivors are extracted, they move on to complete what would have been mission three. Survivors should be held back with a small amount of reserves.

So quick question before we do this: Does clearing the buildings first preclude us getting to Mr. Miller? Or will we still have time to get a team up to him?

Will we be able to ask for any aerial transport or air recon assets? Or do we have to provide more stuff to them, such as more samples of Z-Virus or more of the 2nd Gen. Cure?

if you pass this shit with flying entrails in a set time, the second tank is within reach.

We originally wanted to keep him in reserve in case we go ahead with the tank retrieval mission.

Bea already gives leadership bonuses, so the Gym doesn't need him.
And Snake is a good tactical leader for the Stadium.
Dom may be more useful with his leadership bonuses with the reserves, and using his Postman Cap teleport abilities to bring injured back to the Infirmary.

El Red and Snail to go in, but they keep some distance to each other so that if one got struck/stuck, the other is still free. All those on feet, stay together and go a circuit around the benches with Dollittle's dogs on point to look for survivors. After they canvas the area, go to the rooms below, El Red can be left behind while Shelly remains in Snail.

    Alright, for the GYM:
Have Stormy throw in a grenade or two to get the zombies' attentions, then cut them down as they come, using the doors as chokepoints (well, a door is naturally a chokepoint, but you get the idea).
Once the first room is clear, go in and close the north and east doors to prevent being flanked, and clear out the west room to get at the survivors.

In the Stadium, are all of the seats filled with zombies? If so, that means that there could be zombies in the seats above the gate.
Shelly and El Red need to get to the center of the field, where they can have room to maneuver.

Nooo, try to keep cleaning the lobby melee-only. We don't want to attract attention too soon. After we clean the lobby, barricading the pool, then we toss a grenade (what element effect would nice?) at the throng of Zeds cornering the survivors to the left of the lobby.

This assumes that the zombies in the lobby will not begin to swarm as soon as the first person steps foot in the door, or that the sounds of fighting won't attract the zombies from the other rooms.
Those double-doors to the pool are to the immediate right of the main doors. I am not confident in our team's ability to close and barricade those doors while being swarmed by the lobby horde.
Have the lobby horde come out and be eliminated by the SS formed into a semi-circle around the main doors will produce less casualties.

That would be the point to moving in wedge formation. The point stabs into the horde and advances a set distance. To prevent the point person from being overrun the whole wedge collapses back into phalanx formation. At this point anything that comes at them will die. Admittedly this would work better if they had shields, but we could probably just bum rush and still be fine. Also melee of any kind has yet to draw horde attention from zombies at any distance other than immediate. Besides worse comes to worse we retreat and call in the reserves.

Melee has played a very vital role in the whole game. Melee combatants have brought down every boss zombie we have faced till now. Not that I'm discounting ranged combat of course. The BCB wreaked havoc in the Cthulhu fight, once we shifted their focus from Cthulhu to the zombies that is. Ranged combat will also be what carries us through the battle at noon. My point is relying on only ranged or only melee will get us killed, we need both if we are to survive.

Using a break in Jinn's fire, Stormy and Sally will move up to the north entrance to the Pool.

The pool looks secure so Jinn should be free.
Have Stormy give one of the more explosives-capable of the SS a claymore mine.
Claymore-SS, another SS, Stig, and Jinn sneak through the west door.
Claymore-SS sets up the claymore mine so the cone of ball-bearings is directed at the northern double-doors.
When the preparation is set, Jinn pops out the north double doors and sends a long burst into the zombie horde and then retreats.
The zombies will come towards the double doors and Jinn and the SS fire into them from behind the claymore.
Once enough zombies are congregated, detonate the claymore to finish them off.
If it looks like they might get overrun, they retreat back east to the lobby and use the door there as a chokepoint.

One SS to rush her to Dolittle's medical care. Ouch about the arm, but if we have the time in between Chapters/Acts, we can get her a prosthetic.

. . . Hell, Hal and Ready are not doing anything right now, aren't they?

Since we have the time it seems, get those other survivors out or recruit them into the fight if they're able. Setting up claymores, if Stormy has any, would be a good idea right now, other wise throw a grenade.

Save the grenade for the basketball court that horde is way bigger.

Hmm, remaining SS, led by Bea and GRainy to go to head off mob, with Jinn to clean up. Stig to be a bit more careful because he is low in health.

Stormy to stealthily claymore West-most entrance to North hall. Sally to keep an eye on mob on North.

Call in cleaner crew to disinfect mold corpse, and bring out survivors. Supply crew to bring... Resupply.

That would be the horde I was talking about throwing grenades at. I wasn't even paying attention to that horde to the right.

    New plan.

If the big horde isn't moving ignore it, if it is throw grenades at it. Open fire on the horde to the right. Send someone to either evacuate the survivors or recruit them for the fighting.

Claymore both center and west doors? Or just center?
Claymores are quite directional so it's good to bait the mob to the door for them to be destroyed.

Of course this after we shut off East door first.

Might as well, as long as we have the claymores and time. Not that they take a lot of time to set up.

Claymores are set at north facing doors.
Survivors are being extracted from the locker rooms.

Once the survivors are all out of the locker rooms, I suggest setting up the SS with guns in a coordinated firing line in the lobby facing the north doors.
Jinn pops out of the north doors in the hallway and fires a burst at the east horde to get their attention then retreats back to the firing line in the lobby.
We let the horde get to the door and let their numbers pile up before detonating the claymore.
Melee SS stick with the firing line in case any zombies break through.
Once the east horde is clear, we can figure out how to defeat the basketball horde.

After a bit of an incidienary cleaning. You access the was-spored hallways and negotiate the survivors inside to open the door.

The Gymnastrix club and the Fight Club have been unlocked, surviving on bottled water and trail mix for some time now.

Do we have any armor left for the Fight Club? I'm assuming they're a melee-oriented group, and so will need armor if they're going to keep up with the SS.
As for the Gymnastrix Club, are they any good with pistols? Or with batons? I'm hoping that they'll be able to perform gun-kata.
