So /tg/ my players are looking at Pokemon tabletop Rpg, we might give it a shot if just to get out of the flavor of Ad eva for a little bit of light hearted-ish fun. Also a game where we know the outcome is most likely death.

Any tips or tricks I should know for it?

It's a shame you weren't here yesterday for the thread about this.

In the OP's game, of the three starting players one of the kids died almost immediately. The town was set on fire and they rushed to the Pokemon center to save what they could, each picking a starter in the process. Unfortunately, they also released them before going outside...and one of them had an onyx. Cue collapsing ceiling, wherein one of the kids is crushed along with his elekid.

Turns out the town is under attack by an abused nerd-turned-columbine reject with a Koffing, who he's using to gas everyone and ignite fires. It ends up killing both itself and the two player's starting pokemon with self destruct.

Another game involved a player whose kid became increasingly paranoid and violent after being attacked by terrorists, and took to beating pokemon near to death with an oar and directing his charmander to claw out someone's eyes.

I am so fucking tired of this image.

The pressure it can exert with its jaw is meaningless. What actually matters is the density of its fangs.

The Pokedex is not saying it can bite directly through a concrete pillar like a celery stalk, it's saying the bones in its teeth are dense enough to eventually wear through with enough grinding.

Many pest control sites assert rats can chew through concrete given time, mainly by gnawing on it and wearing it away rather than just biting huge chunks off it.

I can't seem to easily find hard evidence of this but I think it'd be an easy mistake for the writers of pokemon to make.

I'm running a more or less standard game, set in a Pokemon United States. Getting them used to the game-type.

If it's successful, I'm running a second game based on the Vietnam War with Pokemon. Lt. Surge is a major NPC. Voltorb grenades are common weapons, Pokemon Rangers and Capture Specialists use the wild, vicious Pokemon of the jungle to their advantage. Psychics and Researchers make field commanders while Marital Artists and Ace Trainers are the grunt troops.

I'm looking forward to when I run it.

He means in Ad eva. Hes going to P:TA because he thinks it will be lighthearted and fun.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Your in for a rude awakening. You will TRY to make a game lighthearted, and it will suddenly turn into grimdark. Heres a rough run through of my first session:

    >We all meet in a coastal town, which is basically a palette town knockoff.
    >Explore a little
    >OH NO ROCK SLIDE BLOCKING THE WAY TO THE PROFESSORS LAB!
    >Lovably crazy old town mayor comes up to us shouting "I SAW IT! IT WAS THE ROCK GHOSTS AGAIN!"
    >out of character we are laughing at the crazy guy being so silly.
    >In character we are all terrified since we don't know he is crazy, and don't know of any Rock/Ghost type pokemon, so we are going in blind.
    >Search professors house for clues.
    >Attacked by a malfunctioning level 1 porygon, because the GM thought that a porygon would be a pretty cool first encounter.
    >All of us nearly die, and spend require medical help at the pokemon center.
    >Drag the porygon body to the professors lab
    >Professor: "HEY WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE POKEMON WE WERE BUILDING!"
    >Us: "HEY! THE ROCK GHOST ATTACKED US FIRST!"
    >GM: "Wait wat?"
    >Realize that Porygon is a basically made of brick, with none of its limbs attacked
    >Gm goes silent.
    >Professor freaks out, realizing that everything happeneing around town was caused by her porygon
    >We realize that the crazy old mayor WANS'T crazy.

    >Find a researcher examining an unown
    >She flips out when she sees us not wearing protective gear
    >Turns out Unown are world ending horrors, guarding interdimensional gates that lead to planes of pure elemental energy
    >Turns out this gate is leaking, and we have been breathing a mist made of Steel since entering the cave.
    >My character has been collecting weird elemental stones (not evolution stones, stones that can actually shoot elemental energy) and has been trying to weaponize them (getting the idea from a NPC doing exactly that to me, leaving the party to believe I was actually dead for a couple rounds)
    >No success so far, but have managed to fuse one of said stones (fire) to my hand, along with a shit ton of red crystals that cause me intense pain

Pokemon Tabletop Adventures is serious business.

Although in the game I'm running the plot isn't going nearly as quickly.

Right now they're in a fight they're almost certainly going to lose with some drug dealers in a forest who have been using it to grow their product. A girl who lives in the area has gotten caught up with them and they're kidnapping her, and my players are trying to stop them.

And the funny thing is, they were 'this' close to actually going to the drug dealer's side.

You know that crystal/fire army I mentioned my character has?

The GM has also included a Monsterhunter style loot system, And I have already fused a Geodude hand to the end of it. Still not useable, but I'm working on fixing that.

    >>12726716
That cave is adjacent to the starting town. We were sent in there to find a part to fix the Pokedex. This all has happened in about 5 sessions. We have found various investigators/government agents wandering around in their, trying to kill us, claiming it was an restricted area, likely due to the unown.

The chick actually examining the Unown still almost attacked us, and we don't exactly get along, but she answered our questions, and she doesn't work with the crazy government people. My character has begun hitting on her, and is going to try to team up with them, to learn more about the stones, and so I can catch an Unown.

    The funny part?

This is NOT the first pokemon campaign I have played in in which a character with a stone for a hand opened a inter-dimensional gate capable of causing the end of the world, while my character has teamed up with the villians for his own personal interests.

AS AWESOME AS THAT WOULD BE... Sadly it is a typo. I meant arm.

Its funny that those fucking energy stones have completely derailed my character. To the point that I am actually glad that there is a Stone based advanced class.

My character was GOING to start as coordinator, but I decided to put off taking the class until we got to a city with a contest hall. Now? I'm taking Researcher/ Petrologist. Then once Stark releases the Mythic update and the Cross-classing rules, I'm going to cross-class into Rune Master.

Pic very related. The way I got that hand? Taking one of the Flame Stones, and shoving it into a pile of red crystals. FOR SCIENCE!

Of course, I wasn't an IDIOT. I made sure that I used the Flame stone, and not the Electric stone, since using Electric on Red Crystals doesn't make ANY sense.

Upon doing so, I managed to make the save to keep my arm from bursting into flames (basically just a con check) by ONE POINT. Thank god for boosting my Con when I still planed to take Coordinator.

I once tried to run a post apocalyptic pokemon game. It only had one session because the players wouldn't get their shit together to show up so I lost heart.

    Anyway, in that one session:
-they almost burned down their home town
-they badgered the town's police into giving them fences
-they got fled their town after starting a nearly lethal fight for basically no reason.
-they found an abandoned still and blew it up.
-they mauled an orphan with a jigglypuff (no singing required)

I think the campaign could easily be played as light-hearted or grim-dark. Whichever the players involved prefer.

You could easily have an adventure of you guys being like superheroes, one of the few people with enough prowess that pokemon recognize you as a natural leader. Or you could be scientists seeking to classify, document, and study all of the world's pokemon while fighting poachers and those who would abuse a "protected species". Better yet, you could be law enforcement, being one of the few people leagally alowed to use pokemon. Or you could be a set of friends who want to challenge the elite four for supremacy of the nation to bring about social reform.

Possibilities are pretty wide, as with any RPG.

Actually, The campaign I'm in isn't ACTUALLY grimdark. No more so then the games at least.

Just typical end of the world type stuff by a bunch of suited mooks, while we casually wipe them out while telling jokes and making horrible puns, with one character (me) choosing to take the role of the pervert who hits on anyone who he has even a remote chance of sleeping with.

That said I AM planning on running a game which is more or less Team Rocket taking over kanto, successfully this time, that is very dark, with them outright killing people who try to fight back. Complete with lampshaded moment with Giovanni saying "Hey, I'M not in charge of Team Rocket anymore. I mean, this shit is just WRONG. I was trying to help people."

But the Giovanni is a misunderstood guy trying to find his son and help the world thing is a HUGE rant, so I'm just going to leave that out.

Actaully, I'd say this is entirely /tg/'s fault. I know playing as general butt naked's child soldiers in a setting where everyone is involved in brutal animal cruelty fights might be appealing to some people, but to me it just seems like genera subversion to the point of absurdity. And it just seems a bit juvenile to be going OMG EVERYTHING IS SO BRUTAL AND DARKNESS THERE CAN BE NO ESCAPING IT JUST LOOK AT THE SOURCE MATERIALS. I look at Pokemon and I see an upbeat and optimistic cartoon for children. Yes, you COULD read everything to be a bit grimmer and brutaler than things were originally advertised, but the most serious of hardcore 40K grmdark fans don't sell there games this dark. It's just silly. If I was playing a game that involved Pokemon, I'd want something a bit more lighthearted than all this.

The last time I played Pokemon was a good time, hasn't happened in a while though.

There were two of us there from the beginning, with the third joining later. The two main characters were respectfully opposites. The boy was the smart, if a little wimpy courageous guy who had a talent for thinking up what he should do. The girl is best described as an absolute monster given adorable human form with personality to match. He provided the brains of the party, while she kept them in high spirits and generally happy.

Well, game starts and both of us get our pokemon. Sort of. The boy, who will will call Kay, found an injured Ralts on the road and brought him to the center, healing him. Ralts was all giddy, and the two formed a fast partnership. In order to test out his new Pokemon, because he's a bit naive, he decides to go to Sprout Tower. along the way he catches Vert, an adorable Sparrow. There, ghost Pokemon are revealed to be horrifically scary, and he manages to catch one with the Ralts' help. However, he still has to go further up in the tower, and he begins to hear someone acting scared. The girl, Sun we'll call her, is acting tough in front of a collection of Ghastly, her Aron weak and barely able to move. Things are looking bad for Sun, as aron is useless, there are 2 ghastly and a large disembodied grin with floating hands approaching her.

look, when I was ten, I was in SCHOOL

in pokemon, when you hit ten? Get out of the house, go travel the region and conquer a league of professional monster trainers

You make eye contact? You better be ready for a fight. No exceptions.

Organized crime? It's basically running in the open because almost nobody tries to stop them

Yeah, I can look at it from a light-hearted standpoint. But logically? Not really. It's a side-effect of getting older, I guess.

Light-hearted games are generally less-interesting, as you don't form the same bond with your character as you would when faced with actual consequences (in-game, of course)

not saying pokemon should be RIVERS OF BLOOD, but a little "realism" (I use this loosely) is expected

See, I fundamentally disagree with this.

Pokemon universe has constant attacks by wild animals. Gyarados, Onix, and rampant uncontrolled crime in the forms of Team Rocket and other syndicates. The original game had burglars as a common trainer type and cooltrainers wielded whips.

Even in the latest games, you had Cyrus, who was so disillusioned with the world he set out to destroy it to make another one, and ended up getting sucked into an eerie dark dimension, and in Black & White the story is about how people use Pokemon to gain power, and the one person who wants to stop it is just being manipulated by another power hungry villain.

Pokemon is pretty dark stuff. If you're playing it as a happy carefree world, you're doing it wrong.

Pic Related, it's from when Norman was beating up his son for running away from home in the manga.

Thanks to Kay, Ralts and Vert, Sun and her aron were saved by the ghost pokemon. Free from the battle and with the aron hurting, they decide to book it out of there. Sun carries the aron out and leads the two to a pokemon center. It should be noted, she carried the Aron everywhere. From there, and as thanks for saving her life, they decide to crash at Sun's place, since she lives in Violet City. Around now it's revealed that Sun doesn't even understand what pokemon types are, and that her knowledge of them boils down to "Aron has metal plates! And some breath fire!" She barely even knew about the pokemon league. It doesn't stop her from buying a dozen pokeballs that night though

They sleep and decide to go exploring, since Sun is not the brightest bulb and she has nothing else to do. Along the way, Kay decides to teach her about Pokemon, doing admirably well for someone that makes stumps look brilliant. This is made even more apprent when they stumble into a bellsprout bundle, and are forced to fight several. Sun catches her first new pokemon, (though Kay threw the ball) and Kay calls his childhood friend to see what pokemon are around that area. They talk, and learn more about the area they're in. Kay is excited about everything, while Sun is mostly bored with exploring the area she grew up in for her entire childhood. It doesn't help that Kay was documenting everything scientifically, while Sun made her aron walk on its hind legs like a dog.

Before they go too far, a little kid challenges them to a tag team battle. Sun and Kay devastate him, with Aron earning the MVP now that he could actually hit something corporal. They get some zenny, and Sun has to be convinced that pokemon battle do not involve the trainers, which is hard for her to accept after seeing all of the fighting gym leaders do it on television. They decide to go to the gym leader, after realziing that the wimpy kid they fought won his gym badge with ease.

They get there, and there are two other challengers who want to have a go. Faulkner, being lazy and not wanting to make more then one trip to the Pokemon center, decides to have everyone fight each other before they face off against him. Sun and Kay both win the first round handidly, and then they stare at each other. Sun is furious, because she already knows what Kay is going to do. His shit eating grin didn't help either. They send out their pokemon, and Kay's Ghastly tears through Sun's team, nearly causing her to cry with frustration. Faulkner stops her from outright slugging Kay, and they proceed to fight. It also reveals that Sun is fine with pokemon battles, so long as SHE doesn't lose.

Things go well for Kay. He defeats Faulkner's first pidgy, though his Ralts faints in the process. They send out their next pokemon, a Pidgeotto and Vert, the sparrow. They fight, and Vert has the upper hand due to Kay's tactics and training. It gets in three or four attacks, bringing the larger bird down to at least a bruised and bloodied status. It's looking well for Kay as Vert is killed by a single attack.

Team Rocket was originally founded as a gigantic search party to find his missing son, Silver. He used his massive resources to found it. After it took to long to find his son, he decided to continue searching, but using Team Rocket itself to try and better the human race. He began hiring criminals, and supplied them with weak pokemon, so that he could keep tabs on them, and make sure they didn't get out of hand.

The pokemon he supplied them with are all pokemon that were outcast by society. Zubats and Rattatta, which are slaughtered by the thousands. And poison/freak pokemon that are also killed in large numbers, for no reason other then them being CAPABLE of hurting people (but never actually doing so) such as Exans and Koffing.

Even Voltorbs, a pokemon that is content just sitting there and not bothering people. Trainers will run up and try to take them, thinking they are pokeballs, and then kill them when it turns out they aren't. Meanwhile Giovanni has built generators, that let them rest all they want, while also producing clean, limitless, and free energy.

When he heard about the Radio company trying to tear down Pokemon Tower, and thus desecrating the dead pokemon the laid to rest there, He had his grunts go to the tower, and take possession of it, discourage the radio tower from placing there there due to risk of team rocket coming back. (As we learn in GSC, this plan didn't work. This is because they were forced to leave the tower before the news could spread.)

This caused the pokemon resting there to begin attacking blindly, so he made a deal with Sliph Co, to purchase the Sliph Scope. However, Sliph Co couldn't just hand it over, that would be bad PR for them. So instead they arranged a deal for Team Rocket to break in, and for the Sliph Scope to get 'Stolen.' This would allow them to get more data on how well it was working when Giovanni used it, while they 'Made a new one.' since the whole thing was planned in advanced, no one would actually get hurt. I mean, its not like some kid would break in, disrupt the whole thing, and causing chaos as the actual criminals broke ranks and actually started hurting people. What are the chances of that happening?

Giovanni also ran a casino, the funds for which he used to continue to run team rocket, and keep the ACTUAL criminals off the streets. Trainers who take part in it, and bring in funds for him, would get a chance to purchase rare, often sought after pokemon, and items, from a shelter he was running. Pokemon like Abra, Porygon, and Dratini, along with TM's, one of his own inventions, meant to expand the abilities of pokemon, to help better mandkind.

He also had a few ideas for ideas that he himself never got to put in motion. An altered version of the signal the TM puts out, meant to evolve pokemon, and using Slowpoketail, which grow back in a matter of days, and were a delicacy, to start a farm of them where they would be taken care of and numbed, and the tails could be harvested, so humanity could continue to eat, without having to resort to actually KILLING pokemon.

When he left Team Rocket, the actual criminals took over, and put those last two plans into action, without trying to care for the pokemon involved. After that point, everything done by team rocket had nothing to do with giovanni, and he hates himself for actually bringing this upon the world.

So yeah. By the time the campaign starts, he is sick of this shit, and is actually leading the REBLION AGAINST Team Rocket. Of course, no one knows this, because its a huge TWEEST, and an impersonator is leading them, which the players don't find out till the big climatic battle with 'Giovanni.'

Which really just marks the turning point of the campaign.

Kay effectively freezes in shock. He lets the Ghastly out who finishes off the bloodied Pigeotto and goes off to sulk in a corner. Faulkner isn't being very nice about it, mostly saying for him to suck it up, it happens. Kay responds maturely by kicking the knocked out pidgeotto and going off to bury Vert. Sun checks when she could battle Faulkner and gets a week's time preperation so his pokemon can fully heal. Kay buries Vert, and Sun tries to comfort him with bumbling words. Kay resolves to destory the rest of the gm leaders and the pokemon league to avenge Vert, and Sun decides to tag along because she feel obligated to the boy who saved her life.

A week passes, and Sun tries to emulate Kay's performance without losing a pokemon. Her Aron destorys the pidgy easily, but keeps missing the pidgeotto because it's staying at around eye level. Aron manages to win in the end with little damage to him, and a cracked beak on Faulkner's side. Sun stops and chats amiably with Faulkner, as they were sort of friends from living in the same town together. She leaves in good notes and Kay continues to brood over Vert's death. While they're out, weird plot shit happens and the entirety of Mt. Mortar grows blue, worrying Kay immensely and causing Sun to go "huh." The decide to go to Azalea town next, with a pit stop in Ecrutek so Kay could visit his home.

From there, the two progressed till Kay effectively was turned into batman, they met up with a psychic dragon trainer, pokemon went berzerk, Sun out-fighting a Machop in single combat and breaking a Metagross with her bare hands.

And yet Pokemon is still a carefree cartoon for children. And no, 'realism' is not to be expected. I can understand genre subversion but this is just too silly.

I'd almost expect you guys to make a game based off of Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends where everythig is a hallucination and the whole place is like a homeless shelters for the nightmares of recovering meth addicts. If you guys made a GI Joe RPG everyone in it would be expected to be a veteran of the Iraq war who ended up fighting Cobra because their massive PTSD would never let them go back to life as a civilian. Because that's just so REALISTIC.

This does not sound fun at all. It sounds ridiculous to the point of being functionally retarded. You are fetishizing a grim dark parody of realism in the same way that FATAL fetishizes rape and misogyny.

Honestly, things just turn out with grimdark if you take it that way. I personally find it Nobledark. People are great people, but shit can go down with bad rolls or a lucky crit. And the system benifets from it.

Playing all sugar forever gets old after a while, as does all grimdark all the time. Pokemon: TA has a nice mixture of both I've found.

    oh, totally

is the RPG system made for children?

I mean, as an RPG it lends itself easily enough to however you'd like to play the setting.

    >And no, 'realism' is not to be expected. I can understand genre subversion but this is just too silly.
so, playing a realistic character is silly now.. Hell, not even realistic, playing in a logical setting must be totally out of the question, because it's pokemon! Pokemon is for kids! Problems are solved through friendship rather than ingenuity! Villans always make a dramatic speech and build devices with convenient weakpoints!

I won't stop anyone who'd like to play that sort of setting, but it wouldn't be my first choice if I was the DM (PM?)

    That just...

What is this? I don't even...

Most of it makes sense. The part about Pokemon Tower seems a little forced in though. I would say it was a group of minions going off on their own (same ones which eventually form Neo Team Rocket, the GSC era ones), and so Giovanni tries to get the Scope so that he go pull them out without disturbing any more pokemon then already have been.

Pokemon is quite easy to translate to high fantasy:

-All magic is replaced by summoning pokemon and using their inherently supernatural abilities.
-Society is structured around the abilities of these pokemon. Rock pokemon are used for excavation, electric for power generation, ice and fire for temperature control, etc. Some of the more massive ones may even carry entire towns on their backs.
-People may travel with a squad of pokemon and be hailed as heroes for being those who can master some of the more wild and uncontrollable beasts of the lands.

Yep. Skip to about 2:25 in this video to see it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NDfOuiGa2M

Actually, the more I think of it, the people who say there's nothing grimdark about Pokemon probably are just remembering it from when they were kids. Just looking at just the movies, we have:

    1. A genetically modified superweapon who (according to Mewtwo Returns) thinks its life is worth less than normal pokemon and tries to find its purpose. Very existential. It's first conscious act was murdering scientists on screen. Also, there's that Origin of Mewtwo scene that was cut from the North American release where the lead scientist is trying to clone his dead daughter.

    2. The entire premise is, "the world is ending because a human is fucking with it."

    3. A girl's father is warped out of existence with no warning and minimal explanation. Unown did it. And that's not even touching on the rest of the movie.

    4. Some guy has a machine or something that makes Pokemon crazy and violent regardless of what they were like before. He uses it on stolen Pokemon and a legendary time traveller, which strikes me as a bad idea, really.

    5. Aside from Latias' implied crush on Ash, there's the whole Latios being tortured to death thing. And zombie Pokemon.

You get the idea. The games were never that light-hearted, but up until now I never really thought about how the cartoon was actually fairly dark if you take your eyes off of Ash and co.

Also, if you look at the HP formula, and damage formulas, the RPG itself is very brutal. a 1st level pokemon with a 5 HP stat, which is moderately high, would only have 16 HP.

Tackle does 2d10 + atack stat damage, then - the def of the pokemon. The most simple, basic attack is able to easily one shot any first level pokemon, and pretty much every first level pokemon has an attack that does 2d10 damage. Or if you have a 1st level munchlax using tackle against most any average starter, you are looking at more like 6d10 + attack damage. At 1st level.

You step it up to higher end attacks, and you are looking at like 6d20 damage.

So to everyone saying 'hurr grim'n'dark hurr, it should be light hearted', the actual RPG rules we are talking about here push it to be fairly grim with how easily stuff dies

And then after using crystals, they must have found a way to use Apricorns, like the ones in Johto. Hollowed out nuts that can contain Pokemon, which would make being a trainer much more convenient and accessible for common people.

I guess Apricorns would be the printing press of the Pokemon world. Suddenly everyone has access to things that only the upper class used to have.

Yes, but people are bitching about people running the fan made rules all grim and dark like, which is what the RPG rules happen to lend themselves to.

I ran a one shot, trying to be light hearted, and then the party was almost eaten alive by a pack of rattata.

The actual show and such, there is a little mroe argument and interpretation there, but there are indeed elements in official stuff that points to a more grim'n'dark setting anyway. See: the manga.

In my friends campaign, we have just ran into the organization plotting to steal the fossils in one of the mining cities and tricked us into blowing up bombs in the major lake of the region, causing a magikarp to evolve and fight with the other gyarados of the lake. I had to borrow a ranger captain's flygon and kick the crap out of that gyarados and was subsequently adopted into the rangers. We now must fight the organization and take our gym challenge. However, I'm conflicted because I like capturing pokemon, but rangers tend to befriend them instead of capture them. It's impossible to take the gym challenge without your own pokemon. I also started out as a capture specialist, so more conflict there.
Also, we've found that it's incredibly easy to accidentally kill wild pokemon. How do you think this should reflect on the self-confidence of our pokemon?

To be fair, I recall Stark saying he did it that way because each trainer effectively has 1-6 PCs for combat, and making it less lethal would drag combat out.

So this was done more to keep people from growing bored.

The thing with Grim-Dark Poekeymans is that it comes back to something we discovered when we were doing 8-Bit Dystopia: The works of nintendo require a chillingly small amount of work (if any) to make them grimdark.
    Metroid and Zelda especially.
I mean just look at the number of entities in Nintendo's Mythos that wouldn't be out of place in Lovecrafts : The Windfish, the entireity of Majora's Mask, Gigyas, The Chozo, Mother Brain, SMB3 Evil Sun... don't get me fucking started on Kirby.

Nintendo is always just one step away from being as GrimDark as fuck, it's actually harder to keep it from becoming so.

To be fair though, Metroid was always pretty Grim and Dark, and Zelda would often osscillate between light heartedness and SRS BSNS as the series went on.
Hell sometimes Zelda games would pretend to be light hearted and then turn around secretly turn out to be grim and dark all along I'M LOOKING AT YOU LINKS AWAKENING.

That said, F-Zero actually holds up quite well under scrutiny. I mean hell, race fatalities are probably rarer in that than they are in Wipeout.

Koffings will be sent to the enemy trenches to gas the enemy, diglets and dugtrios will be used to mine underground tunnel or destroy foundations. Occupation Ideas
Pokeball Smith: A smith is a person who knows how to make pokeballs out of apricorns, as well as repair, and modify standard pokeballs.

Pokemon Breeder: A breeder raises pokemon often from when they hatch for the purpose of breeding them to make baby pokemon. They know how to take especially good care of their pokemon which helps to make the pokemon more loyal.

Pokemon Ranger: Rangers defend Pokemon from people, and people from Pokemon. In towns too small to afford the services of Police Corp. volunteer Rangers protect the citizens from pokemon, and from criminals.

Specialist: A specialist focuses on a certain type of pokemon, learning all they can about that one type. Often they mimic their preferred type in some fashion so as to better understand their pokemon.

Coordinator: Coordinators collect pokemon not for battle, but for performance contests. To enter contests often a certain etiquette must be followed, lending the Coordinator to being a skilled diplomat.

Researcher: Researchers are interested in pokemon for the sake of knowledge. They learn everything and anything about all pokemon. While Researchers may not have as good battle skills as Specialists, they often know far more.

Bandit: A world of nation states leaves a lot of land unclaimed, and a lot of roads unsafe. Criminals regularly prey on travelers, using whatever weapons they have, whether it be gun, club, or Pokemon. Bandits are often skilled in a combination of stealth and brutal combat.

Exterminator: In a world with insects and mice that can easily maul a person, the formerly simple job of being an exterminator now belongs to a grizzled few veterans. Though Rangers may try to provide this service, there's no one as good at it as an exterminator.

Psychic: Sometimes the Pokerus has strange effects even on inoculated people. Psychics are the most common form of this. Most psychics have a low level telepathy that they can use to communicate with their Pokemon, but there are some that can read human minds, and a few who can simulate some Psychic Pokemon attacks.

    Global Organizations
Poke Centre: The PokeCentre Company was the first transnational to appear in the wake of the collapse of governments. The Company has franchise locations all over the world that charge a small fee for the use of their facilities, including Pokemon registration, trading, Storage PC access (when available), and of course medical treatment for Pokemon. The company also owns the PokeMart chain which, while not as common as PokeCentres, offer many useful, though often expensive, items and equipment for trainers.

Police: The Police Corporation is a private security force that many cities employ to protect them from encroaching threats, both pokemon and human in nature. Cities that are too small to hire the Police Corp for protection often have Pokemon Rangers who form a volunteer police force.

Elite Four: The Elite Four is a global organization dedicated to preserving civilization. They do this by encouraging travel between towns through the Pokemon League. They set the rules and decide any disputes for the league.

Rocket Gang: The Rocket Gang is an organized crime group originating from somewhere in the former United States. They commit crimes such as arms, pokemon, and drug dealing to increase their wealth, though they often have a hand in most organized crime in North America, and there are rumours that they may be spreading globally.

Team Magma: Team Magma is a cult that believes that humanity's problems stem from the oceans and that if there was more land humanity would return to its once prosperous form. They seek out legendary pokemon and advanced technologies to further their goals, which are at odds with Team Aqua's.

Team Aqua: Team Aqua is a cult that believes that humanity is a plague on the land and needs to be washed from the world in a biblical flood. They search for legendary pokemon to remake the world into something cleaner. Since their goals are the opposite of Team Magma's the two cults often come into conflict, creating fatal battles.

Galactic: Galactic Corporation believes that humanity's future on the Earth is limited, and so they must expand into the stars. While not overtly sinister in nature, Galactic will stop at nothing to advance their goals.

    Pokemon League
Everything is City-States, with Cities competing for the right to have a Pokemon Gym because they bring economic stimulus. A Gym Leader must come from the town in which their gym is located. A gym can switch locations if the Elite Four give a challenger city permission to send their champion to face another city's gym leader. Gym leaders have a wide range of pokemon, and save their best for Champions.

When a trainer encounters another trainer either is free to challenge the other to a battle. The trainer who is challenged gets to decide if there is a wager on the match, and what the wager is. Wagers can range from a friendly bet, to money, to equipment. Some trainers choose to make the wager the ownership of a pokemon, but this is discouraged by the Elite Four and can be refused without consequence.

Despite the fact that the Elite Four enforce the wagers whenever possible, many trainers who lose matches in the wild often become desperate over their loss, resorting to violence against their opponent. If that happens, the attacker is now a criminal and any injuries that follow are considered self-defence, or assault. The attacker can then be formally charged and imprisoned. However, such unregulated battles often result in fatalities in the wilderness.

Armour and weapons that have no connection to a pokemon are not permitted in normal battles (for example, a cubone's helmet and club are allowed, but a machop with a sword is not). This is not a common issue in sanctioned battles, as outside items will not enter a pokeball with a pokemon. However, some trainers who do not use pokeballs provide their pokemon with armour and occasionally weapons.

Gym battles take the form of a one on one battle. The challenger and the Gym Leader each choose their single best pokemon and then battle with only those. This is to prevent a Gym Leader from succeeding simply through attrition.

    World History
It is theorized that the Tunguska event was Mew hurtling to Earth. This is theorized by mapping the spread of the Pokerus combined with reported Mew sightings. At first humanity is unsure of the mutating flora and fauna that is spreading around the world, especially since some humans mutate as well. When an animal, whether human or otherwise, begins mutating because of the Pokerus they slowly start to lose their memories and speech capacity. When the process is complete, they remember nothing of their previous lives except for fleeting dreamlike impressions. On animals and plants, it twists them into pokemon similar to the animal they once were. Humans have some small resistance to this, but not much. As Mew spread around the world, so the Pokerus spread.

Children have to get inoculated against pokerus, those that don't are susceptible to becoming pokemon. So poor areas, such as Africa, have it running rampant. Pokerus is transmitted via saliva and feces of infected people and pokemon.
    >> korik1 11/08/10(Mon)21:25 No.12730872
    >>12730848
It isn't until the 1920s, when a vaccine to the Pokerus is developed, that Pokemon become part of society, beginning with the end of WW1 when the first regiments of Pokemon trainers appear. When WW2 began Pokemon were there from the start, with the German Blitzkrieg being revolutionary for its use of Pokemon.

However, WW2 was the end of large nations. The resources expended by the nations during the war left them unable to cope with the issues at home created by pokemon. Nation after nation fell apart, becoming city-states. Transnational corporations such as PokeCentre, and Police Corp began to rise and became one of the few constants in the world.

In 1964 the Elite Four arose in Osaka Japan as a group of Trainers who aimed to restore order to the world. They set up a competition system where trainers have to travel between cities to challenge the city's gym leader. This was done to encourage travel, and economic growth. The Elite Four are now an organization of 4 representatives from each continent who work together to keep civilization alive. The League Champions, who have been able to beat the Elite Four of their continent, are the enforcers of the Elite Four, though the Elite Four also has a veritable army of trainers and bureaucrats to support their cause.

Pokemon training and handling was revolutionized in 1964 when Kurt Mauser designed the first pokeball made from an apricorn in Germany. Apricorns were strangely wide spread plants that had been altered by the Pokerus but had not become Pokemon. This connection to the Pokerus is what allows the pokeballs to capture pokemon but not normal flora and fauna. This invention made catching Pokemon easy enough that almost anyone could do it, expanding the population of professional trainers greatly. Additionally the ability to store Pokemon indefinitely in an object the size of a baseball meant that almost anyone could own a Pokemon without having to worry about upkeep costs, so long as they could afford a Pokeball. However, Pokeballs were expensive as they had to be hand crafted. This meant that only the wealthy were able to purchase them, leaving the less fortunate to deal with the issues of feeding their Pokemon.

In 1978, with improved manufacturing means, the Poke Mart company created the first mass produced Pokeball. The mass production of pokeballs made PokeMart a rising company, and it was quickly subsumed by the PokeCentre Corporation. The decreased cost of the mass produced pokeballs (though they were still fairly expensive) created a second expansion of the popularity of Pokemon. The most recent revolution in Pokemon came from Bill Gates when he developed the PC Storage system in 1997. This allowed for Pokemon to be transported between locations over the internet while inside pokeballs. Unfortunately, due to the City State nature of the world, infrastructure quality is at an all time low, including the internet.

Gonna go out on a limb, and suggest that any ambient station on winamp's SHOUTCast Radio should work pretty well, just look around for a station that plays stuff that sounds like it would fit in well in a natural setting and you'll be fine. Just go into shoutcast, look under genres, click on Ambient, and have a look around.

That I don't have, but... you see that little thing in the board index at the bottom of the screen that says /vp/?

That's the pokémon board. We have one of those now. Start a thread asking for darker pictures of pokémon, and give a few of the examples from this thread. You'll get plenty. Just hope it doesn't turn into a vore thread.
