508 KB You are being teleported! Anonymous 11/14/10(Sun)13:16 No.12795631
You are being teleported to a fantasy world. You know this. You also become aware to the fact that the teleportation will take place in ten minutes and you can bring anything you manage to carry, Even if its in another thing like a backpack.

You know the world your going to is going to be medieval fantasy, With magic and such but less on the technological side and anything with batteries will eventually die out unless you figure out some way to convert magic into electricity

So /tg/ I pose to you the question, What do you bring?

digital camera. use it and my superior knowledge of technology and charisma to convince people that I can steal their souls. become dread wizard almost over night.

alternatively, a notebook and plenty of pens to record history properly so that shit like renaissance faires don't get started because idiots think life was better when people didn't have sanitation and you were likely to die before you reached 30.

Pants, shirts, my backpack and my laptop, complete with charger. Some of my old man's electric engineering manuals, If I get around to them I might be able to charge it eventually. My Spanish Army knife (yep, we have those), A jacket or two, Something I can use as a hood, an extra pair of shoes, some food and stuff, same deal with my ipod, forget about cellphone, hmmm...
    What else have I missed?
Yeah, I know my stuff will die out eventually, but who knows. I've always had a knack for memorizing stuff, perhaps magic will give me the ability to charge it again?

You know it's piss easy to build a shower using basic tools? Yes, you have to warm the water via fire or let the sun do it (in a metal barrel at summer the water will be quite pleasant) but it isn't exactly rocket science.

My backpack with loads of informative books- Once I get there I want to become some sort of technological hero. Also a first aid kit. Maybe some beads or something shiny (but not valuable) to trade with the more primitive factions (if there are some) for food and such.

water purification tablets- I don't know the quality of the water there so it's always best to assume it's unhealthy.

Extra clothes, boots, gloves- I'll have to find a way of getting armor there. I have none here.

Finally, my hunting rifle and a duffel bag loaded with all the extra ammunition I can get my hands on. Maybe my deagle for close encounters, but I have very limited ammo for that.

    >those fucking whale shackles

I've got to stop you right there, OP's Image. Those shackles aren't actually connected to the whales. Obviously there is some magical or technological invisible hold EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN the force being exerted on the flying whales. If the have devices capable of exerting such invisible force, then the whales are COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. They could just have these rings or devices based on the rings installed directly on the castle as propulsion.

I bring a guitar and print out some tabs (Bardic immunity, Fuck Yeah!), a couple of knives, a knife sharpener, a razor, some scissors, some fuckin' math and science textbooks. My wound pocket watch, a set of cold weather clothes, a set of warm weather clothes, lots of fucking socks. Hell, since I know I'll be gone in ten minutes, I try to steal a really nice pair of boots. Some good, all purpose soap like Dr. Bonner's, and some useful chemicals and medical supplies like hydrogen peroxide, bandages, bleach, anti-inflamatories, etc.

Basically just survival gear in case I don't find civilization right away, and books with the knowledge to build technology. Maybe I can trade with the local wizards for TEH POWAH!

Head down to front desk, spend all my money buying over the counter tylenol/antibacterial gel/misc. drugs, and bottles of water/soda/juice. Talk to handyman, ask to borrow his tool belt for "a couple of minutes." Print out attached picture.

If you have isolated wire building a generator is easy. Machining the wire and isolating it without rubber materials is the difficult bit.

Rudimentary use of electricity dates back to the Egyptian era. But to make it viable as a product you need modern (19th century) machining and manufacture.

Grab my AR15, get to Acadamy as fast as possible.

Knives, Sleeping bag, Thick jacket, long underwear (tops and bottoms), shot-ton of .556/.223 rounds, mountain bicycle, 25ft of rope, tarp, first aid kit, several nalgeen (brand) water bottles, flint, several notebooks, several pencils, plastic bags for notebooks, and a wilderness survival guide.

The heaviest things are the Rifle, ammo and the bike. I have most of the stuff already, and what i don't have is easily within 10 min of me.

Rifle is a temperate deterrent against getting killed by something when i first arrive, find my way to a village or town. Live my life.

On soft grass boots will only protect you from accidents. As soon as there are some dry twigs or pebbles on the ground bare footed travellers will have to slow down and watch their step, those in primitive shoes have to watch their step so as not to damage their footwear. In a natural forest barefooted travel is more of a climbing movement as every other blind step would get your foot pierced by sharp drying branches, same with primitive shoes. With boots you can take solid steps and just have to look out for things that could trip you.

Yes, boots make you faster and safer.

I would bring a crank/solar flashlight/radio, lots of small solar panels, alligator clips (for connecting the solar panels to electrondicks), physics and chemistry references, my box of electrondick parts, knife, my electronics book, backpack to hold everything in, a custom power source to multi-connector tool (plug solar panels into it and use microUSB or USB to charge things), lockpicks, notebooks and pens, a weapon or two, a solar powered calculator, and basic living tools.

All of this could totally fit in a backpack or a duffel bag...

    Ten minutes? Shit.

Quick, grab my knife and belt, put them on later. Shit, I'm not wearing pants yet. Get pants right quick. Grab gloves sitting on desk, stuff them into pants. Grab backpack, dump out schoolwork, stuff with food and a water bottle that's a third full. Ibuprofen The fuck's that doing on my desk? Oh well, grab that too. Carpentry hammer? Yeah, and that minicrobar on the windowsill. Oh, hey my sleeping bag! I thought I put that away like.... two months ago... Oh well, don't worry about that now. SHIT, where's me coat!? Oh, yeah, by the fireplace, and my boots, too, need those. Coat has matches in the pocket, check. Oh, ehy, I have tools in the garage! Ohh, I'll take a shovel... I should leave the woodsplitter, it's gonna start snowing here soon and everyone else'll need that. Dog? No, he's old and he might get hurt. Hope everyone else remembers to feed him. Shit, wish Josh was here, his Kukri machete would be perfect for this shit. Hell, he needs to get his ass up here and come with me. Bastard. WAIT SHIT! I forgot my watc-

And then I spend years in a fantasy world, with my wrist feeling slightly uncomfortable without my watch.

I'm a Navy paramedic irl, so I figure I'd bring my knowledge of trauma medicine and my kit bag with me. For personal defense I have a 9mm handgun with around 300 rds. and my standard issue Marine Corps body armor. I would attempt to locate a friendly village and heal/teach them all to become a new cult devoted to the healing arts. I would hope my lasting legacy would be that I improved the living conditions of said realm.

Am I correct in assuming you have little to no barefoot experience? Dry twigs and pebbles are not the end of the world. I'd believe that boots gave you perhaps a 10% to 20% increase in your distance covered over being barefoot (assuming we're walking), trading against an increased chance of falls and twisted ankles and a surety of blisters.

I know the barefoot movement is big right now, but it's not a silver bullet. Someone who has never gone barefoot is going to take at least a few weeks to adjust. In a sudden survival situation they're better off with boots, especially if they're carrying a load. They can practice hobbiting around once they've established a base camp and such.

The beauty of modern chemistry is that it's a comprehensive rule set. As long as you remember a few basic elements and their proton count the rest just falls into place. What reacts with what is simple math. You just have to rediscover what different compounds are good for. But the genius of the electron shell model is in it's compactness and universal validity.

Not quite. I live out in the sticks, surrounded by a bunch of hicks and douchebags. The only person I could tolerate that I could reach within 10 minutes would be my sister, and she'd be really pissed at me for doing that.

But if I could reach any of my buddies in 10 minutes, that'd be the first thing I do. Hell, get as many of them as I can. We all share a great love for adventure.

    rolled 5, 3, 1, 2 = 11

Suitcase full of clothes, roommate's gun and ammo. Take all the kitchenware and butcher's knives as well as the beer in my room to use as trade goods.

I don't think I would have enough time to go to the drug store and pick up water purifying tablets or any inhaler medicine. I expect the first few weeks if not months to be incredibly shitty as my lungs will not be used to the air nor will my immune system and stomach will be unable to cope with the food and drink there.

Oh an my pillow. I really can't sleep without my pillow.

With the proper hygiene this is pretty easy to do. Many can be bought at the cheese shop, most others ordered online as lab supplies. Keeping them alive isn't hard. Only avoiding contamination requires a little finesse. But nothing you couldn't do in your garage if you have a steam duck.

But why? loeave out a loaf of bread until it turns green and you already have like 2 or 3. Repeat at different locations and within a few weeks you should have most bases covered. The trick to cultivating is mostly in keeping out competing organisms.
