I can talk about it. Currently trying out the World War Evangelion and ReWrite beta stuff before I move on to run was will essentially be pic related. The players haven't even tried to be subtle about ripping off the Getter team. Might be my fault, since the NPC from the first campaign (This one is a direct sequel) that the OD decided to take over and play in this campaign was based on Professor Saotome. The head of the research division for their first base, every S2 technology was done out of his labs over the course of the last campaign as the OD poured Surplus into it.

True, but not true. Really you can with v2 as presented, but it will simply never be a recommended option, and while there'll be MORE options, they won't particularly be any more or less something that's universally okay. It's always a safe bet to ask if you REALLY want to, but I'd say it sort of misses the point.

not really. Depends on what you want to do. Neo Spartans have some nice perks, but manufactured are better at not dying, and such. I was actually on the fence between the two backgrounds and went neo spartan because the downsides fit the character better.

I also hold that while prodigies may have some potentially very nasty negative qualities, their positive ones really make up for it. Especially synch flux.

I'm in a game that's just starting out, but probably doesn't need any players (sorry, folks). Currently it's in that awkward phase of not quite knowing the rules well enough to run smoothly that new systems can involve.

I don't mean the tanks. I mean the OD herself. Shooting the Angel with her pistol.

    >> LDT-A 12/02/10(Thu)01:06 No.12998830
I run a campaign where I basically fluffed Impact Survivor as being like Prodigy except with fucking terrible childhoods where they grew up in circumstances pretty similar to the world at second impact, for the purpose of taking it as a pilot.

IS have the Synch penalty, but they have the primary upside of having a good chance of 3 fate points and traits that make fate points do more, which is equally as useful for pilots as it is for ODs.

That said, allowing IS pilots is not a mainstream thing.
    >> Anonymous 12/02/10(Thu)01:07 No.12998841
    >>12998804
Pretty much. I had to drop a damn good roll into Fellowship to have it around average and justify being more of a cool, big sis type who is actually likable.

Also ,some Neo spartan positive qualities aren't that great. The extra weapon training probably depends heavily on which career path one intends to go into (it's...really not worth it on a skirmisher, for instance). Their other stuff isn't bad, as more BS/WS is always good, and a little resistance to the opening fear tests can be very handy.

My only character in AdEva so far has been a prodigy, and honestly I managed to do more with that character than either the Manufactured or the Neo-Spartan we had.

But then again, I had seriously lucky rolls in combat most of the time, and was for some reason the only one concerned about saving with the world, with the Manufactured pilot worrying about things like impressing high command and the neo-spartan just wanting to try out their Shiny New Gear.

So it all came down to the scandinavian kid with a big axe and no combat training who managed to, in many occasions, scare his Eva into going berserk.

Oh, it did. And it helped in pulling my 'partners' out of the fire on more than one occasion. Like the time I threw the Neo-Spartan out of the beam o' mindrape he was trapped in.

Into a hospital. That had the OpDir's pregnant wife in it. Which had failed to retract because of a malfunction caused by the last Angel attack, which had been literally the day before so there hadn't been time for a full evac of it.

I've told this story a number of times before, though.

    Nice.

So far, we've only ha one angel fight in the game I'm in, and most of it as buried in OOC chatter as we tried to figure out little bits of the system we'd missed. It got so bad that one o the guys forgot he'd made a called shot to the angel's core just a short time ago.

We've made an OOC channel to at least prevent such chatter from interrupting the IC game flow such that die rolls are missed, and it shouldn't last forever anyway.

Anyhow, first angel fight starts with everyone deploying, failing their fear tests, and bad things happening. We then retreated to rest a bit and were redeployed. The time we actually fight it, my character ends up shooting full-auto into melee until the gun runs out of ammo, as the angel has some really scary-looking melee attacks which it happily demonstrated on the other two pilots. When ti was almost dead already, i charged it and hit the core with righteous fury to the tune of "it goes up like a nuke." this then triggered the big ego and dependent flaws on the other two pilots. I fear for my future. And do intend to point out that it was a bit of a fluke and the other pilots did far more of the work than I did.

now, hopefully, by next angel attack ,the AT technician will actually know how to use her AT field powers, instead of being the out of her element civvie.

Theres really two extremes of Champ right now, the ones that are fully based around going insane, and the ones that aren't so focused on that.

The latter do become Mary sues to a lesser or greater extent but generally the players are dicks enough that it stays a very Eva tone, and furthermore they are less mechanically competitive, so they don't break angel battles.

The former though, well they CAN be pretty goddamn powerful, but still don't really break the *themes* per se as their characters are fairly rapidly becoming more powerful and more insane until they can barely relate to humanity anymore, and only understand the concept of people in rather abstract terms. Think Don Quixote piloting a 45m tall giant robot. From an outsiders perspective you just handed the fate of the world over to someone arguably more terrifying in their deluded state than the angels themselves. Which is very Eva.

Have the pilots neutralize the angel's AT field. That's what the evas are really needed for. Once that it done, unload all of your missiles right into its core. I've head stories about early angels getting wiped out by tanks and VTOLs once that AT field goes down. You just have to play things tactically and not empty all of your guns into the brick wall before the opportune time.

You're supporting the pilots, mostly. Until they get the AT Field down. Battlefield + Barrier Plates and Positron Turrets is your best friend forever. Precision Targeting is your staple. Cut Synch is fucking essential to get some pilots under control before they tang, and Feedback Tampering is pretty much required once an Encroacher shows up, Remote Care is pretty handy. Just As Planned, When Suddenly, Pilot Surveillance are all great, and to a lesser degree Double Agent. Surefire Ejection is great for just in case, a lot like N2 Strike.

Nope. If she starts Third Impact, it'll be the traditional way. Seek out Adam, merge with it, take him over and rule over the world as she sees fit. To be honest, that outcome'll be somewhat unlikely (depends entirely on the rest of the group, and so far they haven't made her hate humanity enough to want to wipe it out entirely).

Instead, what's more likely is being used for Human Instrumentality. And if that happens, she'd put the fate of the world in the hands of a stupid sexy Irish terrorist.

Awakened Hybrid: Your Angelic DNA and blue cells are active. While you have a ATS of 1 on the personal scale, and can use powers you know on it as if you had the ATP your SR provides, you are an abomination closer to the angels then human, and manifest a blue signature while doing so. Hiding it will prove difficult over time, since you no longer age, or scar, or bleed red. There is also the consideration that many groups would love to cut you open and see how you have accomplished this feat.

Wrote this up for essentially that reason. Nothing like concentrating for 1 minute and then moving a powerless elevator with your guest in it to the abandoned levels of the base, after using a combination of AT Stealth, Ping and an assault rifle to sneak into their room and steal them. (hold hands and they are invisable too, of course they are blind while doing so.)

How do I handle the Angels when dealing with players who have seen the series? Won't they meta and run through Angels like Ramiel in the exact same way as the series?

Also, are they any plans to include rules for quadrupedal Eva's like Mari's?

Q1: Make your own. For extra lulz, make the first few ones look identical to the canon angels but act completely different. Most people just plain make up their own though, generally using the random angel generator to start off with and then moving onto statting them from scratch once they are more familiar with how their party deals with things and how the game works.

Q2: Currently, v2 core explicitly has no influence at all from Rebuild. That said if you feel like digging around you'll find some beta (read: not officially part of the game yet and hence not necessarily balanced) stuff that allows you to make an Eva that functions like Mari's did, with integrated boosters, four legs etc.

The fist three angels I threw at my players were very weak on top of being done with the introductory rules. I just rolled poorly in the character creation.
And now, the first easy angel, has huge toughness, maximum armor (15) for head/body/core, AT penetration, as well as a positron beam with a normal range of 140dm, however it also has the marksman ability, so it can shoot up to 420dm without penalty. On top of THAT, it has dirac breach, so it basically can shoot anything anywhere, if it just spends 8 of it's 16 ATP.

So what we have here is an angel that has a 82% chance of hitting an Eva, autopenetrates their AT fields and has a decent chance of crippling/killing any Eva with one shot, all that over 4200 meters, or even more if it bothers to against a team of mostly melee fighters ( ATT, berserk, pointman )

I guess this is going to be interesting?

So I'm just browsing though the character and EVA creation rules and really liking this, so much so that I actually sat down and marathoned the entire anime (which I also enjoyed). But I'm curious /tg/, what does an average session of AdEVA look like? How much time do characters spend in P-scale, how do the players use that time to do interesting things as a group, etc. Also, I have 4 players and am going to assume one of them would at least be interested to play as the OD. Assuming the other players were cool with having one of the PCs be the boss (and in this group, they would), how does this work in practice? Do they tend to have an equally engaging and fun time as the Pilot players, and are their characters mor eor less relevent in P-scale events?

Trying to get a better understanding of how the game runs. Thanks /tg/.

In my group the life on the ground usually lasts about one session, though we all are unsatisfied with that, and will put more focus onto it.
The OD is actually incredibly useful and a really good position, which is why it's a bit sad that it's filled by a NPC in my group. I am always reluctant using her, because I don't want to steal my player's spotlight. I'm bad at handling GMPCs.

So you're suggesting it might actually be beneficial to have a player run the OD instead? I admit I'm curious about the OD's position of (reletive) safety compared to the rest of the group, and how that impacts gameplay more than anything else.
    >> Anonymous 12/02/10(Thu)06:14 No.13000785
I use the OD as a DMNPC, and while I am sad that the group missed out on some chances to some more interesting role play in that route, there are some benefits.

The biggest benefit is that I don't have 2 pilots. Sadly my group is very small (we're playing in person).

Another benefit is that after I throw an angel at them I can adjust the fight's difficulty by changing how much the OD is able to help them.

The only other real problem I've run into is that it's hard to to get the players to interact with the command crew more since it seems like most of the time they prefer to talk to the OD. I'm still trying to come up with ways around this, but it is annoying at the very least.

Really depends on how things are going. Generally most campaigns leave humanity as an enemy until right at the end, as in the series, but the players I GM for are... different. Highly creative and highly violent, a good analogy would be that they treat the world with a DnD PC outlook.

TL;DR they attacked the UN Pacific Fleet killing 17515 people in order to get their base an extra eva unit.

So yes, in that case the encounter was rather one enemy eva and a flotilla of about 45 military vessels, than a single massively powerful angel.

Also I think its kind of sad to see so many people relegating ODs to NPC status. I can sort of understand it from the perspective of an IRL game, but on IRC there seems to be this weird discrepancy that games with a heavy overlap of players with #adeptusevangelion always have PC ODs and yet there is this massive rate of NPC ODs the second its people that we only hear about through /tg/ threads.

There's not altogether that much you can actually do about EVA-scale combat with conventional forces. It's either offensively abstract or unplayably overcomplex, and the only point at which you can balance the two is in the realm of abstraction by feel and mood, which is something that has always been the sole realm of the GM and utterly beyond the powers of any rulebook.

    >>13001422

Like I've said, the reason people NPC the ODs is because they're not the same as the PCs. It's a legacy of this sort of gaming that's been so constant for so long that it'll be damned difficult to break.

The difference in usage comes down to perception. The way the game should work is all well and good, but of trivial importance compared to the way people think the game should work. The reason so many in the IRC use them 'right' is because when you're involved in a project it's much easier to see what any given element was meant to work like.

Has anyone made a quick character/EVA/Angel generator yet like there's been for Dark Hersey. I haven't played a game of AdEva yet, but with the implied high mortality rate something like that would be a godsend. I always take forever and a day creating for some reason.

Current World War Eva/Adeva campaign thing. 4 PCs and one fucking crazy GM.
The GM setup a military heavy campaign; emphasizing artillery support when we took down the angels’ shields, that nukes can penetrate AT fields and absolutely wreck an angel or eva if they are high enough yield, using the evas as shield generators for armies, ect. He adapted the Death Watch horde system to allow use to fight armies.
We started in media res, it’s 2019 in a setting where the angels came more sporadically. They didn’t have the evas for the first angels including the Zeuriel equivalent so they just nuked them, with actual strategic nuclear weapons instead of sissy N2s. Zeuriel took an 80Mt blast from a nuclear mine and his carcass got hurled into orbit by it. We killed the last five tricksty angels with the evas: a virus type(Nanomachines in my NORAD trying to launch ICBMs? It’s more likely than you think.), two infector types, one that burrowed under NERV Japan, and giant space gun that was shooting down the ICBMs before then could hit it. That last one was a lot of fun since we had to draw its fire and shoot back while the Chinks, Ruskkies, and Yanks spammed missiles at it.

So short campaign right? Well then Russians found out about Seele’s instrumentality bullshit and rallied the militaries of the USA and China behind them to stop it. So we were sent in and fought six mass production Evas whose parts had been shipped to Germany and assembled there. You know the drill, pull out the dummy plugs ect. But since we had lost our escorts and support to N2 mines, and there were six of them supported by most of the European NATO that Seele had co-opted we could only kill three before the Russians just said “fuck it” and launched a fractional bombardment weapon they had in orbit and dropped twelve 400Mt bombs in the middle of Europe. Most of the British and French ICBMs in control Seele were shot down by Russian and American ABMs. Russia lost Moscow when there missile defense was compromised and the US lost Boston when one of the MIRVs split before it could be shot down. Pretty interesting outrace the nuclear fireball session though.
So the current situation as of the last two sessions
USA/Japan have absorbed most of the remnants of NERV since they had the most NERV Facilities to begin with. Consequently they are ahead on Eva related stuff but lost absolute naval superiority when half the aircraft carriers got blasted by Seele in the Apocalypse Europe campaign. Both the countries have become military dictatorships, along with pretty much the rest of the world. We are currently stomping African nationals for them, and I expect that a certain missing Eva will show up soon.

Europe has been gutted by nukes. The British Eva has disappeared; the incomplete French Eva is confirmed destroyed. Germany is crater. Most of the remaining European military is bivouacked in Australia.
Russia only has 2 provisional Evas of its own but has chosen to just spam ICBMS like in the Cold War. It has all but annexed eastern Europe
China has 1 true Eva that it is actively using to take over most of South East with the acceptance if not support of Russia and the US/Japan.
There are also hints that the top brass of the four remaining great powers are angel hybrids. The Gendo equivalent in the Japanese branch seems to be and the General Ripperesque US Commander is openly flaunting it. I quote “The old fools never understood the spirit of Man. Loneliness, misery, hatred, war: these things are what make us strong. They denied this fact. They would have run and cowered in the dark like children rather than standing as men. But we will stand. It is the will of God that mankind shall become gods ourselves. We will tear at the firmament and drag down all those weaklings that had the audacity to think themselves gods before us. That which we can conquer does not deserve our reverence. Man’s very nature is to surpass the limitations of humanity.” So we will probably get to fight human/angel hybrids latter.
Also the GM talked to me about a possible betrayal, since I am playing the American pilot and it would be commanded by General Ripper. Basically it involves me being launched win a hug space battleship driven by nuclear pulse propulsion and using the battleship and my AT field to divert and asteroid toward the planet. Supposedly so they can part it at a lagrangian point and drop it on Earth whenever they please.

Theres no quick character generator currently, but theres also a lot more inherent choice to chargen than in DH so I don't know whether that would effect anything.

Also, don't worry about the mortality rate. Horrible things happen to people frequently, but the actual character retirement/death rate is VASTLY lower than core DH. Whereas you might expect a DH Char to last 3 to 6 sessions, you'll find that thats around about the interval between ANYONE in the party burning fate in AdEva.

Also, F-type has a... storied and hate filled relationship with dev. Suffice to say that there will very likely never be a way to in rules obtain a full suit of F-type for a PC. There may be stats for it in WWE, as well as ways of obtaining individual components of it.

Uhh, how do you figure? the GM sets the death rate in DH, 100%. Its no more or less survivable than D&D or WW or any other RPG. There's nothing resembling a specified danger level in DH.

    >Whereas you might expect a DH Char to last 3 to 6 sessions, you'll find that thats around about the interval between ANYONE in the party burning fate in AdEva.

In AdEva, your character goes further along the downward spiral literally every round of combat, you're burning about 300 xp worth of your player character every round in the form of permanent ego barrier loss. Tang is inevitable in AdEva, far moreso than corruption and insanity in DH.

I would suggest that either your total control GM tone down the brainrape a bit, or you stop throwing yourself headfirst into madness. Just because you CAN burn fate points like they're going out of style doesn't mean that you have to. And I'm fairly sure that your figure of 'burning 300 xp per round' is verifiably false.

I kind of want to make a renegade pilot. Not an anti-hero but literally they tested them, pilot realized they couldn't be stopped by their handlers and escaped with the S2 organ enhanced Eva. How long can a pilot last in an entry plug without having to leave? Would they be able to track it because of the AT field always being at least ATS 3?

Pilot duration in entry plug is an unknown. Example from the series, Unit 01 without a S2 engine, showed endurence of aprox 12 hours continus nonactive life support minimum mode. This was stated as due to both power and LCL filtration limitations.

Having considered a similar event for the game I am currently running I posited that a S2 Organ equipped eva could provide its own LCL and filtration. So long as the AT Field is spread in most spread patterns, tracking is easy. Without it, the massive thermal signature and huge size come into account. With AT Stealth, it becomes a nightmare to track. Please note that an offical AT Stealth is likely to superscede the one I brewed up.

AT Stealth: Spread pattern, 5% Deflection per ATS, opponents must test Perception(or use awareness) to detect a radius equal to their Per bonus * 10 in Dm, with each degree of success adding 1 to their Per Bonus. AT Ping negates this effect until your next turn, but does not negate the Deflection. While Stealthed, all electromagnetic spectra are virtually useless in detecting the unit, the unit does not leave physical traces such as footprints, but it must leave a tiny peephole to see out of, so detection with conventional means is possible. Additionally, conditions like smoke or fog will reveal the unit displacing the material.

Well I was gonna start my own thread but I see this one so I figure I may as well post here. Considering starting an AdEva group, as my friends are mostly all fans of the series, and while they aren't incredibly keen on starting up another hack n slash dungeon exploran game I figure this would pique their interest sufficiently. I'm just wondering as to what aspects of the Dark Heresy rules book I will need (I have never played the game), i.e. page numbers etc. I'd rather not buy the Dark Heresy booklet if possible, though I'm prepared to go the distance.

Any general tips/advice would also be welcome.

Simple, Life on the Ground (LG) Make the poor players stretch their pilots social muscles. Also, Simulated battles vs other pilots/whatever you feel like. Have one of the programers be a Gundam enthusiast and throw the Wing Gundam at them. Have them train in 'small target tactics' against a Touhou complete with Danmaku level firepower. (that might help when Tabris comes knocking), Training simulations give you the excuse to be whacky without screwing with the overall mood, especially given that several critical table results cause IP. Inter Service lunchon lets you show them the other pilots in NERV branches, or meet the tank/VTOL crews (who clearly have BALLS OF STEEL to be out there vs an angel) Have a club day at their school (assuming they attend one). Everyone disappears for a day except for the pilots and 1 totaly normal random technition who was working on the LCL filters at the time everyone vanished. No evidence remains after the event other then the pilots and that poor guy's memory. (was it an angel attack? A side effect of LCL exposure? Lilith turning over in bed? Who knows?!)

pilots need driving lessons in case they have to get to HQ on their own. (this includes hotwiring a car) Pic related.

In that vein. I'm thinking of running the game and interspacing it with flashbacks and cut aways to other parts of the war. In this case a turn of the century group of investigators and a modern spec ops team.

Sort of a compromise since I want to run CoC and they want me to run AdEva.

Will probably link the two. So success in the past nets knowledge on the next angel. And success in the present keeps the modern human threats off their backs.

You can vary up the "monster-of-the-week" quite a bit too without actually changing the actual monster - you can just change the tactical situation. Perhaps the Angel attacks during a military parade, or during a power outage. Maybe a natural disaster precedes the Angel.

Other plot hooks that don't involve Angels:
-new prototype mecha goes berserk, pilots are called in
-protesters blockade the NERV HQ claiming that it's "wasteful military spending". At the most extreme you could even include P-scale combat, but plenty of hooks here as to who's actually responsible.
-As mentioned before, clubs days or other "everyday" life activities. Maybe they want to throw a dinner party or celebration... only to realize that NERV bureacracy requires authorization in triplicate.
-A crisis at school/work/wherever your pilots go during the day, like a fire in a building.

The most important thing i find with AdEVA campaigns is to have some of it planned in advance - at least the general direction of the campaign if nothing else. I find sandboxing in the ruleset is very tough - it works better if you pick some sort of coherent theme and stick with it - check the 1d4chan wiki articles on AdEVA for some campaign ideas (Round Table, for example, replaces all the Christian motifs with Arthurian motifs. NERV Vatican takes all the Christian motifs and cranks them up to 11). It'll keep the side plot hooks you think up relevant without feeling like a waste of time.

I really, really want to play an AdEva game. The only trouble is, there's a member of my gaming group who is dead set against anime - the mere mention of it has him breaking out in hives, and his level of scorn is such that if I try to run it I he'll treat participating as a real hassle that he's condescending to, and just be an awkward ass for the duration. He's a good friend and I don't want to cut him out of play, but anime is just something that we've never seen eye to eye on, and likely never will.

Do any other players have advice about getting him onside?
    >> Anonymous 12/03/10(Fri)01:47 No.13010832
Another idea would be to really play up the NERV Response Team's role post-battle, although I'm not sure exactly how to impliment them successfully. I'd like to see them as recurring characters that the PCs interact with outside of combat, with the players actions both as the PCs and the ERTs impacting their opinions of eachother... sort of hard to swing that AND leave room for whiney teenaged antics.

If you're dead-set on getting him in the campaign, downplay the anime aspects. Use the ideas, but don't play it as Evangelion. Find out what objections he has, assuming it isn't solely because it's from Japan.

Possibly related to your question, here's how I'd run an AdEva game (if I ever did. Unlikely, unfortunately).
-Strip out the Adam/Lilith, Angels, teenagers as pilots.
-Set it in a universe where the Roswell crash did happen, albeit on a Tunguska Event-level explosion initiating a Third Impact-type event.
-Evas are largely the same, being cybernetically lobotomized alien/human clones. Made from the wreckage of the Alien Ship, they're the only thing capable of tackling the ETs coming around for whatever alien purpose. Pilots are the best of the best, picked from military forces around the world. Not kids.
-Some influences from Argentosoma. Yes it's another anime. Oh well, its very, very minor.

On an unrelated note, if I didn't have a gnat's attention span I'd convert AdEva to Eclipse Phase or something.

As the other questioning Anonymous in this thread, I'm in a similar position with a friend - although specifically due to the link to Evangelion (usually, I'm the one doing the anime cringing). In my opinion the combat's clearly secondary to making use of awesome characterization, so you really need everyone onboard with it to make it work. So what I did was ask which aspects of the game, both mechanically and fluffwise, he was taking issue with. If your friend can't give you a reason past HURF DURF ANIME then I'm not sure you'll make a lot of progress. But if they can highlight the parts that bother them, you can work from there. In my friend's case, he's going to be the group OpDir: it lets him participate outside of using a giant cyborg (complaint 1) and without forcing him to be a teenager (complaint 2), with a strong emphasis on interacting with NPCs (complaint 3 - that there would be nothing to do outside of EVA combat, and hence my interest in this thread). But if your friend isn't willing to get into why he doesn't want to play, then there's very little you can do.

It varies but I've found a lot of groups prefer just to ditch the whole post-battle cleanup team, at least not as a regular thing. Might make a fun one-off though. I find it'd probably be more effective to have a given session where the PCs are exposed to the "horrors of war".

As for planning, well, that's sort of a given for a setting that involves a fixed location especially, and if the players are part of a big and stratified organization.

Generally under the default set-up players don't hunt down adventures so much as the adventure comes to them... although actually, that's not quite an accurate characterization.

Most of the player initiative is more focused around discovering whatever AWFUL TRUTH is behind the Angel-analogues and the dirty secrets that the NERV-analogue is hiding - that's where player choice really stands out... well, and there's also the amount of collateral damage they're willing to inflict. (I recall an anecdote about NERV: Vatican where one pilot decided to use tanks as grenades... can't even imagine the sort of letters the Ops D. had to send to the families of the drivers).

AE is built at its base around something very defensive oriented, very reactionary (on E scale anyhow) the being worked on "Hunt for Adam" splatbook would cover a more proactive campagin type. That said, overall when your talking about 40 meter tall bio titans, its kinda hard to justify independent licence.

Having an outline always helps when running a game. even if its just (Angels are a problem, NERV trying to prepare for the world war after the angels are dead is a bigger problem, SELEE trying to Tang everybody is a looming threat of Morgoth preportions) or say (cribbing of my own here.

"NERV is fracturing into three factions, the PC's are with the North American Union, SELEE controls the European union, and that bastard Ikari owns Japan. Also, giant space fleas from nowhere with the potental to end mankind, but you know, thats kinda secondary."

I'm the anon who proposed the "Cradle To The Grave" setting in Mesopotamia, having the Geofront underneath Baghdad-2, some months back. Unfortunately our campaign petered out midway through due to commitments pulling in a lot of different directions, but when it came to having a greater involvement on the human scale, I included a political struggle. Iraq was being administered as a UN Trust Territory and being used as a model for post-Impact government - however, opposing the Globalists in charge were various Nationalist factions seeking to reassert suppressed cultures and rail against the UN's crushing bureaucracy. Occasionally there'd be abductions, mutinies in the army, terrorist bombings, and so on.

ah the OD PC. one of the most intresting aspects to look at really. manage the other PC's to try and get good press for more funding. Face the paperwork (and/or shuffle it off on the pilots, perhaps as punishment for collateral) try to keep morale up, deal with the press as the voice of reason, try to get the conventional military to not pull out and leave you high and dry, try and convence your superiors not to kick out the conventional military and leave you waste deep in shit, try to manage the typical drama of prima donna pilots/teenage drama. All kinds of crazy fun stuff to do.

Engage in a war of pranks with the pilots to try and keep their minds off the fact they are piloting nightmares that shouldent exist and causing the kind of damage you expect out of a war just by walking them around the block.

    >Use the ideas, but don't play it as Evangelion
This is actually encouraged by the dev team in my experience. Have been considering bashing this and Mobile Suit Mechanius together to try and make an Armored Core game...

Also, depending on how you work it, having a coherent plan can be a boon - you have slightly more structure and if you have a good grasp on how long you want the campaign to run people can commit to it easier, because there is an ending point.

I find the best method is to plan out the number of Angels you want to throw at your players. I find laying out a rough timeline on a spreadsheet helps - and then slot in any plot hooks and intrigue wherever you want in-between the Angel battles.

A sample campaign might be structured around 12 Angels, with a side session in-between, and then a few extra sessions just in case - maybe around 27 - 30 sessions total. If you run a game once a week you'll be done in 8 to 9 months; a fairly reasonable and predictable time commitment.

Finally, like mentioned above it helps to have a gimmick. Refluff the Eva's a certain way, or change the mythology. (pic sort of related?)

    Other alternate mythologies:

NERV: Egypt (use Egyptian motifs, mythology)
NERV: Sumeria (Sumerian motifs, maybe stuff about the first language, first men? Plenty of angles here)
NIRVANA: Ramayana (Indian motifs have a lot to go with. The Third Angel: Arjuna)
NERV: Greece (Greco-Roman, set in the defence city of NEO BYZANTIUM)
NERV: Persia (Zoroastrianism. Instead of Angels, manifestations of Angra Mainyu)
NERV: Japan (set it in Kyoto-5, use Shinto motifs. Angels are minions of Izanami sent up from the underworld or maybe the ocean)
NERV: Grimm (somewhere in Germany, use fairytale monsters. Fits well with the angsty teenage psychology themes. Red Riding Hood as a metaphor for rape, etc... although starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel here)

Other options include changing the time period and tech base. Maybe it's the 1930s, with steampunk style technology in the style of Sakura Taisen. Or maybe it's really far in the future. Or maybe the landscape is post-apocalyptic ala Mad Max or Fallout. Maybe you could do a game with more cyberpunk elements.

Or if you want to go farther afield... i'll just leave this here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLbpsxTLeGg
