    Hello, /tg/.

I am in need of orchestral music for DnD battle scenes. What sort of stuff do you use?

Pic unrelated. Here, have some tits.

Dawn of War: Warhammer 40k has some pretty decent stuff. The Winter expansion and Dawn of War 2 is just shit shit shit, though.

The Tron Lagacy and Inception Soundtracks provide much theme music.

Two Steps From Hell is a really good orchestral group. If you want to thank me, you can post dudes instead, but I'd rather you just delete your OP pic.

Bear McCreary. Does some epic soundtracks for TV and recently the video game Dark Void (yes the game sucked but the music was the only redeeming factor).

Here's some stuff from Battlestar Galactica he did.

Personally, I like the remixed Final Fantasy 1 battle musics (from Dawn of Souls). Not that hard to get an Emulator (Visual Boy Advance is my preferred one), and generate the songs as WAV files, then trim them in Windows Sound Recorder.
If I had my computer working, I could send you a buttload of vidya game MIDI's that I remixed myself. I prefer orchestral arrangements anyway, so...

There are loads of classical pieces that work well, but the problem I've had is getting works that aren't quiet as balls. I realize that a lot of music, as released, is much louder than strictly necessary, but when making a playlist it helps if everything is at the same volume.

If you can find good recordings, Antonin Dvorak's New World Symphony is pretty sweeping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yctfXIqugXc. Richard Wagner has lots of awesome shit, too, beyond the obvious Ride of the Valkyries stuff. Siegfried's Funeral March (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a53s4jyCqqU) is good, but really only if the battle is going poorly or something really dramatic is happening.

Also, EVERYTHING by Hans Zimmer (Inception was mentioned upthread, but Gladiator, Batman Begins and Dark Knight [with James Newton Howard), Harry Gregson-Williams (Metal Gear Solid, natch). But when shit goes down Verdi's Dies Irae is always a good choice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW1Uc-grcMs).

Some anime soundtracks are good, too. The Kenshin OVA soundtracks (not sure of composer) are good, as is the Escaflowne soundtrack.

LOL I've had a nerd-boner for Hans Zimmer for years, and played the New World Symphony in High School marching band. I had honestly totally forgotten about it until a thread here mentioned it for use in Rogue Trader games.
