GENTLEMEN THERE ARE NO CLASSY PUNS ONE CAN MAKE ABOUT RIDING A DOM.

It is June 2nd, Universal Century 0079, you are ace mobile suit pilot for the Principality of Zeon: David Lister.

You are currently part of Garma Zabi's Honour Guard, and are currently escorting him away from a suprise federation attack on Quebec.

Garma is currently in his Gaw which contains his Zaku and Hovis Goddard and his Hildolfr. The rest of you are escorting the craft in Dodais, along with a large number of Dopp Fighters.

You eventually return to the safety of California and your barracks in the old Governors Mansion around tea-time. Being Garma's honour guard affords you a higher level of chow than it did back in 321 company.

Garma thanks you for your help back in Canada and tells you all to get some food and rest.

YOU HAVE SOME FREE TIME BEFORE BED, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO?

There are some options you might want to explore:

    - The Dom you pilot is a prototype, the guys from Zimmad would probably want you to help them doing perfromance tests
    - Writing those essays on Peacekeeping and Combined Arms tactics in a post Minovsky+Mobile Suit world.
    - Training up Garma into GARma.
    - Pestering your Head Engineer, Okawara about new experimental weapons and ideas

Plus anything else you can think of.

It might do you well to try and contact relevant experts in the Military Academy back on Side 3...

In any case, at the rate you're going, the treatises might be finished in about 2-3 months.

Ask Garma if he wants to try some manuvers with the team. First we gauge if he's any good, then we work on his survival skills. At the same time, we try out the Dom: If the team can take it on going at 300+kph, they might just be able to hit the Gundam.

    Yes. Sorry.

You check with Lord Garma's current itenerary today, and then check with his generals about doing combat training.
The generals seem all to pleased for someone to keep him occupied and out of trouble.

The only real niggle is that you have to wake Garma up. Apparently he sleeps in until 10 usually.
Well that shit isn't going to fly any more.

You firmly but politely wake him up at 9, informing him that it's time for some Mobile Suit excercises.
You also politely but firmly resist the urge to stroke his hair GODDAMN IT WHY IS IT SO SHINY.

In about an hour, all of your squad including Garma are in your Zaku's.

Note: Garma's custom MS-06Fs Zaku II (custom model) is a normal F type Zaku with four 25mm Head Vulcans.

Any chance of getting his Zaku modded out for more speed/survivability by Ookarwa?

Let's be honest, he won't be GARma for a while and we're trying to keep him alive.

Aside from that [assuming he has no training] we should focus on basic survivability drills, and how to get him close to one of us if a situation arises. We can then move on to basic skills such as accurate firing, jump jetting etc.

Can we schedule a meeting with any of his generals/handlers to get more information on the wee prince? Things like his plans, what he has been up to etc? I know they'll be busy, but maybe a lunch meeting?

    >I must have it! What are the chances of getting something like that for Rubens or Jolyne or Shiro?

Well, since the Desert model Zaku had a pair of 25mm Head Vulcans, then the F2 and K type could probably be converted with the D type head in about a day.

The Gouf might be a bit more problematic though, the connectors aren't 100% the same.

The Dom is right out. For a start it's a prototype, Zimmad aren't going to let you make ANY modifications.

    >Do some basic training for warmup, then test out the Doms manuverability with the rest of the squad using paint rounds to try and hit us.

You do this. You pair up Jolyne with Shiro and Zolomon with Garma, and Ruubens and Hovis together.

You book out a preset testing zone (it's one you remember using when testing the Gouf Prototype) and the lot of you go at it for a few hours.

    >Screw that, we're all about getting Ruubens.

There's always the Tatewaki Kuno solution.

    Anyway.

You spend the morning darting about avoiding paintballs the size of tennis balls. One of the things you notice is that whilst you can only use the Skirt thrusters to move forwards, and when you jink or try to skate backwards you don't have the same level of speed.
You remember to note that down.

On the subject of your new pilots, Garma actually seems pretty good for a guy who the generals have been trying to insulate for six months. It's clear he's short on experiance, but his skills are pretty close to top notch.

Shiro seems more average and by the book, on the other hand he's got more patience to deal with firefights methodically instead of making daring all or nothing charges like Garma has the habit of making.

Hovis... Ever seen a paintball 30cm across? My god the MESS.

Everyone else is as amazing as you expect. Zolomon for instace is fucking terrifying, even if he isn't all that sold on the Gouf's loadout.

After making sure that you are ALL packing sidearms, you change into civvies and requisiton a couple of Jeeps and follow Garma's directions to what actually transpires to be a fairly classy cafe. It also appears to be heavily frequented by Zeonic soliders, which helps ease some of your security concerns.

After a fairly nice lunch discussing some of the finer points of NOT CHARGING AHEAD AND GETTING YOURSELF KILLED you all decide to leave back to the mansion.

As you're leaving Garma decides to lead the way... which partially implies that he hasn't listened too well to what you told him.
Anyway as he's walking to the Jeep, a young women with blond hair accidentially runs into him whilst carrying a cardboard box of food, tomatos, fruits and misc sauces spill over the pavement and onto Garma.

Guns are pulled and shouting ensues for the next two miunutes.

After you confirm that Garma is only covered in pasta sauce and hasn't been horribly wounded in a random accident that would get you all bumped down to private, Garma (ever the gentleman) helps the young lady up.

    "I'm so sorry!" She apoligises.

"It's quite alright, I'm sure I have other clothes."

The two begin talking whilst you have Zolomon go get tissues.

It transpires that she is one of the volunteers helping with the restoration effort in the docks. You see, after the colony drop, a vast tsunami devestated the California region and large civilian and military effort is being put into picking up the pieces.

The Spy formally known as Incognito.

"Uh, well actually, I'm looking to do a background check on someone. Seems our Captain Garma has taken a shine to one Icelina Eschonbach, and I'd like to make sure she's not a federation master assassin before allowing her in for dinner tonight."

"Icelina Eschonbach is the daughter of Raul Eschonbach, mayor of New York from 74 to 76 and is again after the occupation. Born UC 0057, has a second class degree in english and history of supporting "worthy causes". "

    Okay, just caught up.

Have realized that we are rapidly becoming the Quirky Miniboss Squad. To make things a little safer, I think we're going to need to consider eventually doubling the size of our unit by filling it up with redshirts as ablative armor for the rest of us. In the meantime, let's take the entire squad to Disneyland; suggest that Garma take Icelina there so that we have a good excuse.

Also, for the hell of it, we know that the Feddies are working on beam weaponry. Why don't we have a chat with Okawara about what to do if they suddenly start fielding it against us?

And I just realized: why not bring in Icelina on our planned essay on peacekeeping in occupied areas? She's already doing reconstruction work, so she's probably got useful experience. Plus it might get Garma interested in it as well, and making a Zabi be something other than kind of a bastard is a definite plus.

Day 1 and Day 2: Garma's getting used to early starts. He's also managed to make less suicidal charges, which means that you must be rubbing off on him more than Zol is.

Day 3 & 4: More testing out of the Dom. You've got no complaints with Giant Bazooka, the people who maintain the testing area might have though, it's got quite the punch behind it. The Head Sword looks silly, but it's actually pretty good. It IS a little bit flimsy though, Zol would probably hate it.
The Guy's from Zimmad seem to be taking all of your advice to heart.

Day 5: Okawara get's the last of the parts he needs and you spend the day doing your essay's whilst he refits the F2's and the K type with head vulcans.

Day 6: Casual Fridays go off well. Garma seems less casual than the rest of you, probably because this is his house and he spends half his time in his civvies about the place. He has another date with Icelina. Zolomon and Ruubens draw the short straws.
Everything ends with you all going down to a disco, you discover that Hovis can't dance, you aren't great either, but Zolomon is the LORD OF DISCO.

You're pretty sure he actually get's lucky.

Day 7: Training whilst nursing hangovers. Fun. Heavy use of the head vulcans doesn't help anyones headaches either. Zolomon's Gouf has also had some work done to it, it's hand vulcans have been replaced with a triple barrelled 35mm vulcan cannon on the forearm. The hand has been returned to normal. It's also sporting two heat axes.
Zolomon is now absolutely terrifying in close combat. The others soon learn to make good use of the head vulcans, practicing with Garma has taught them some of the basics of head vulcan use.

You bring up the issues for the direction of the war, and the Federation and it's mobile suit efforts.

"Truthfully, I beleive that the longer this war continues, the worse our chances of winning become. But we do have two advantages, our tech level, and our experienced troops and pilots. The federation may eventually erode away our technological gap, but they cannot magic ace pilots out of thin air! But David, we the Principality of Zeon HAVE to win this war, if we don't then the billions of men, women and children whom this abomination have already consumed will have died for nothing, and words and hopes of Sum Deikum will have been for nothing. Thing will return to the same inequalities, to the same corruption as before and the lives lost this year will be forfeit. That is something I will not allow as long as I live."

He also brings up another topic.

"I also feel that perhaps enough time has passed to warrant another trip to the front. I was thinking somewhere a little quieter than last time, New York perhaps."

Bless his heart he's trying to be nochalant about it. You pretty much have to okay it, as long as the generals agree...

You know, perhaps we should try recommending to Garma that Zeonic forces start getting a stable defensive line ready, a la the Hindenberg line in WWI. Just before the Feddies begin their inevitable counteroffensive, Zeon pulls back to lines that are actually defensible with its available resources, evacuating or destroying anything of possible use to the Feddies as they do it.
