IF WE PUT A CANNON ON THE BACK OF OUR DOM, DOES THAT MEAN THAT... IT'S A GUN-DOM! [KABOOOM!]

You are ace zeonic pilot David Lister. Over the past six months you've been kicking ass and taking names across the americas.

You are currently in Kansas on a top secret mission to capture an enemy spy, and to rescue POW's.

You a currently talking with zeonic spy "Mr Incognito" about how best to deal with the Federations latest trick, a giant drill battleship.

Your current squad is a three man team consisting of:

    You, Lieutenant David Lister.
Piloting: MS-06F2 Zaku II (Modified with Head Vulcans)

Your long standing Wingman, Zolomon Ringo.
    Piloting: MS-07B (Zolomon Custom)

And, what SHOULD be Elaine "Ruubens" Arronax, but is instead... Garma Zabi.

Piloting: MS-06F2 Zaku II (with added head vulcans)

Actually, they've been using it to travel undetected deep into enemy territory, disgorge a load of planes and tanks, and nearly managed to kill Garma by ambushing his Gaw.

So, on the whole, it's not done too badly.

Anyway, you and Zolomon have dismounted and have explained the sitation to Incognito and his band of merry men/hired killers.

    His plan is as follows.

Your squad is to distract the enemy forces with a frontal attack. This is to cover the approach of his team as they infiltrate the drillship.
Once inside, they'll attempt to immobilise it, free the prisoners and arm them. Using them as troops to take the rest of the ship. Hopefully the traitorous Captain Kilroy will be aboard, and if he isn't, then hopefully there will still be some detail of his whereabouts.

It's a rough and ready plan to be sure, but it might just work.

It's impossible to say, with a bit of luck, they attacked the Gaws with their full air complement, which at best should leave about a wing or two of planes to deal with.

The real problem may be the tanks, we know that several of them are AA platforms, largely useless against Mobile Suits, but is that all they have?

We need to make our own cover. I say we assault on of the outbuildings, clear the surrounding are of enemies, and use it as a strongpoint for the rest of the assault, where Garma can cover us from.

Okay, shall we go with this plan? Use some of the buildings as cover and draw attention to yourself whilst your specialist infiltrate the drillship.

You outline the plan with Incognito, who (along with the rest of his squad) is changing into a federation uniform.

You set yourself up on the northeast approach, you move with a wide distance to prevent you from being detected. Garma managed to keep up without being detected.

You carefully take aim at your first targets, and wait for the timer to tick down.

Five minutes later you open fire.

The first set of explosions gut the disused conning tower and the three of you leap inside the cored building, using it as ad-hoc cover. From the direction of the hangers you can hear sirens. A couple of infantry attempt to plink you with Anti-Armour rockets, but you spot them quick enough and dispatch them with your head-vulcans.

The front doors of the hangars burst open in flames and debris as Tanks, unwilling to wait for the doors to open, shoot their way out, or simply plow on through.
150mm shells begin to fall around you. You make about 10 tanks heading towards you.

You hurl a cracker into the smoke and whilst you can't be sure if you kill anyone, the shooting at Garma largely stops.

You approach the hangar, when you narrowly manage to miss adittional fire, coming in at you on a parabolic arc. There must be additional tanks that have deployed behind the hangar, and are firing at you over it.
Risky, and their accuracy sucks, but it's still effective in keeping you away.

My reasoning for this being, just barging through the hanger the tanks are shelling over makes it reasonably easy for them to depress the elevation of their guns and turn our zakus into scrap coffins (given enough numbers).
While if Zol flanks them they're forced to reorient, which then allows us to surprise flank excellently.

Going OVER the hangar like some people suggested would be a lot safer. The tanks are firing blind on a parabolic arch, so the faster you move forward the better.

If the structure can support the weight of one or two Zakus (which would be impressive), then lets jump onto it and use the steady high-ground to shoot the lower and then exposed tanks. If it can't support us, then lets jump over it altogether, and while landing start shooting the 240mm Bazooka at the tank mass. Garma should come with us, since its safer to hang with us than stay put and get the explosive hail dropped on his head.

You bark out orders to your wingmen.

"Gypsy to Crow, use the hangar roof as a firing platform to cover me, I'm going to make a leaping assault on the enemy forces! Tom Servo, move up and follow my lead! Watch out for enemy reinforcements."

    "Roger!"
    "Roger!"

You gun your jet's and leap over the hangar, 150mm shells still craze past your suit as you can now spot the tanks, their twin barrells angling at near vertical angles, the begin depressing to get a better angle, when Zolomon's Gouf begins firing at them, distracting them and taking one out.
You begin firing with your Bazooka, clipping one tank and flipping it over.

Behind you, you hear a crashing sound and Zolomon's cry of suprise. You don't have time to worry about that as you land in the middle of the remaining tanks.

Your head vulcans spang of a nearby tank, forcing it to relocate and miss with it's shot, you dodge to the side to avoid another but the recoil from your return shot puts you off balance for a second and you stumble into a pair of 150mm shots.
Your cockpit shakes from the impact, but the computer reports that the shots failed to pierce the armour.

A spray of 90mm shots shred a tank as Garma arrives to back you up, and you take out another tank with your Bazooka, thrusting along with the recoil, flying backwards, putting more space between you and the remaining tank.

You get it's attention with your head vulcans, which allows Garma to finish it with his Heat Hawk.

Your bazooka and rifle need reloading. Garma is currently reloading his 90mm.

"Crow to Gypsy, my current status is: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!"

"I went to school with Char Aznable. I know EXACTLY how you feel." Garma say's to your side.

He manages to land on his feet, and then starts running away from the rolling vehicle as it begins to roll over towards him.

You get another message from Incgonito.

"I've gotten message to the survivng POW's, the crash has made it impossible for them to get to the tank bays, they've diverted to the hangers instead. Except their trapped, several doors have entered emergency lockdown and need to be unsealed from the outside."

"From the outside? Shouldn't that be the other way around?"

"Sort of, they need engineering tools to open the door, which they can't get, to open the doors. The APC however still has a spare engineering kit in it, get that and bust our people out. I think we've got a handle on Captain Kilroy, but if he's snuck in with the survivors, don't say anything or cause a scene. Just make sure he doesn't get the chance to rabbit, odds are he's just going to try and reintergrate himself into the chain of command. If he suspects anything however, he may try to run."

You bring out your radio and try to signal whoever's on the other side.

"This is Lt. Lister, to Zeon survivors. That you on the other side of starboard hanger deck door?"

"Confirmed! Boy are we glad to hear you!"

"Roger that survivors. We are trying to get to you, but there's an obstruction, we're trying to put together a bridge from scrap. Hang tight."

    "Please hurry! We have wounded!"

    Sure.

Once the door opens up, a steady stream of bruised and stumbling men in Zeonic uniforms begin shuffling past, you see people with broken arms and two people carrying another in a stretcher. Evidently a medical bay must have been on their way. It would also account for all of the bandages, slings, splints and crutches.
Also an armory as several of them are armed, luckily you recognise a couple of people, so you can be fairly sure that these are your guys.

    >That reminds me, is there any way we can get involved in Flanagan and get any newtype girls ourselv- I mean, further the goals of newtype understanding. Yeah, that's it

Yes. But you'd have to be in space first. The Flanagan institute is on Grenada, on the moon after all.

You move back across the bridge. As Zolomon does so however it creaks ominously, and then collapses.

"Whoa!" howls Zolomon as he falls through an metal frame for the second time tonight.

You lean over to see if he's okay. You see him hanging on to an open doorframe by one hand. He manages to get a better grip and hoist himself up.

    "You okay man?"

    "Yeah!"

The open doorway is 4 meters down, there are no visible handholds on this side of the wall that Zolomon could use to climb. There is a hand rail on the other side, however this is a two meter, risky, jump.

    YOUR ORDERS?

You scan the immiediate area, no sign of rope, but you do notice a firehose. You smash the glass with your Crowbar and spool it down.
    Zolomon quickly shimmies up.

You radio Garma as you make your way out.

"This is Gypsy to Tom Servo, switch positions to cover the Tank Bays, we've got incoming friendlies who might need covering with your head vulcans. Were on our way back now!"

    "Roger!"

You dash back and quickly remount. Behind you, you hear the sound of 25mm Vulcans firing.

You quickly tells the POW's milling about your feet that the thing is about to blow, and you and Zolomon attempt to scoop up as many as you can and run off. Between the two of you, you manage to mount all of them in twenty seconds.

You quickly stomp off, using what's left of the hangar for cover. Behind you, you hear explosions that wrack the federation vehicle.

A few minutes later, they stop and you poke your head around to see what's left (after putting down the POWs of course.) The shell and frame appears intact, but smoke and flame billow from every orifice, it appears gutted.

About ten minutes later, a hovering Incognito and his now much reduced team hovers in and drops off Captain Kilroy into the APC, away from the prying eyes of his former crew.
Presumably the idea is to pretend that he died in the explosion.

"Hm. Well, that was messy and only tangetially to plan, but we got a good result in the end. Nice job Davey on rescuing those POW's. Of course it's not all good, there's the name of this thing to worry about."

    "The Name?" You ask.

"Yes. It's called the Morlock Subterranean Battlecarrier. Well, that's not the worrying part, the worrying part was that it's called the Morlock 02."

    TO BE CONTINUED

Note: In the aftermath of this battle, the frame of the Morlock would be taken back to California for study, and would reduce the development time for the Marine MS designs intended for the Jaburo Attack by about a month. Good Job.

Well, since this is the end of this session.

Soon, we'll need to have a deep talk with Garma. We don't want to admonish him much, otherwise he'll see us as another stuffy type trying to rein him him. Instead, we need to educate him on how the truth of this war. Not to mention, ON HOW YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHO YOU CAN TRUST. We can use Kilroy as a jumping off point, but also remind him that there's likely another, if not more, spies within Zeon command. Not to mention any soldiers or officers.

And Incognito, too. I mean, we don't know where he gets his orders, presumably from someone high up, but everything he does is so shrouded in mystery, we can't be sure that he's working for Zeon's best interest. Not calling him a Feddie or anything, but you can't take anything you're given as truth. Can't accept facts as facts. Facts are only facts so long as they're truth. And the truth is different depending on how you see it.
