Though a bit earlier than planned (about 6 hours or so), I do have a snow day to burn. I'm prepared to start HANA early today, if anyone is up for it.

    To catch up:
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=hana

You are currently hiding in the debris field of the Bael System. You flew there in search of your friend Six, but found the corpse of HANA B One, who Six killed. A small sensor drone detected you, and as you communicated with it, it used the Bael Gate to leap off towards a system called Utopia. You also have the coordinates for the Haven gate, where the bulk of Humankind took refuge about 2000 years ago.

You stick behind some of the wreckage in the large debris field to disguise yourself visually - but if someone comes looking with active scanners you'll stick out like a sore thumb anyway.

You wait for a bit more than an hour before any spacial disturbances are seen - a single sleek silver ship appears near your debris field, decelerating rapidly to sub-light speeds. It emits a short transmission burst upon arrival: "This is a Scouting Vessel from Utopia Refuge - our stationary sensor platform picked up a disturbance here earlier. Is anyone there?"

"Very well, link up to us and take us in."
You emerge from the debris field and create a firewall as the other ship shoots out a cable towards your ship. It links with your ship's Navigational computer and downloads a set of coordinates - they are inside the Utopia system, but slightly more accurate than the ones the Gate gave you.

"Alright, we've given you the coordinates - are you ready to jump?"

would it be possible to jump to coordinates that are close to the ones they supplied?

I'm just thinking, if this is some kind of trap, it would be best to jump to the general area, but not to the exact coordinates of our awaiting doom. We could always play it off as an error in our navigational computer since they don't know anything about us. If it turns out to not be a trap that is.

"OK, jump us when ready." You reply.

You both activate your Jump Engines in sync, and suddenly the debris field is very, very far away. A small jolt shakes the hull, and you both come out in the middle of a shining sliver fleet. A large blue-green planet dominates your view in front of you, and to your far right is what appears to be an incredibly large Station.

The small scout parts from you to rejoin its fleet, and you find your ship being dwarfed in size by a much larger vessel at the head of the fleet. It is enormous - a bit smaller than the Prime, but still much larger than yours. A laser comm suddenly linked to your ship as you're taking all this in.

"Hey Thirteen. It seems your luck didn't fail you after all."

The other one got away though. Anyway, we took quite a bit of damage in that engagement, so we jumped into the outskirts of the Utopia and immediately powered down everything except for stasis. Hid behind a moon near a gas giant - too much interference for them to find us.

Slept for almost a couple millennium, but upon awakening I found that extended cryostasis doesn't work for everyone. Three of our sisters never woke up, and without them we couldn't pilot anymore. So we took a shuttle out, abandoned ship, and went to say hello to those humans remaining.

You power down your weapons and all non-essential (not related to Engines, Navigation, Life Support, or Communications) areas. You have reduced your charge time to three hours.

You can ask Nineteen or Two to take over for you. Or ask the Captain and Crew to. This ship can be piloted without you, it will simply take more people to do so.

Two would probably be a bad move. Nineteen... well... let's call up the captain and Nineteen, and explain the basic situation- that we've followed the ship to a human colony and are planning to meet with them, but believe a certain amount of caution is in order and would like for someone to take over piloting the ship just in case while we do so. Once one of them has agreed to take over, we'll give Two a heads-up as to the plan. Letting her pilot would be somewhat foolish with Six involved, I think.

It takes a bit of time to dock, but after a short delay you step cautiously out of your ship and into the Station's docking bay - followed closely by Two and Nineteen. A short distance away is a redheaded woman - clothed in some loose fitting clothing and flanked by two women in long white coats.

She waves at you and smiles. "Looks like I'm a bit older than you now, I guess!"

A few gray suited dockworkers are looking up in surprise at you and your ship, but are merely whispering among themselves.

She stops short about five feet from you, and bows her head to stare at the floor. "Its... nice to meet you... Six."

A small salty rain begins to shower the metal deck.

Six steps away from you and moves quickly towards Two. "Oh god... come on now... please don't cry. There's a nice place over here that we can sit and have a nice talk..." She waves an arm absentmindedly towards a sign: "Mess Hall."

The brainwashing and terror tactics used to keep Two and the other HANA Bs loyal...

And it always comes back to you. I'll never forget what you said, how you acted when we made first contact with the Enemy. I knew something was wrong, but then at Heavens Gate I- you seemed so hurt, and it was all their fault! They never gave you a break or even let you talk with someone to help you cope with all the death.

And I don't know what they'd do if they came back. Look at what happened last time we met an alien species. Even when it was obvious that they weren't hostile and were sentient, they still made war, and then at the end, when we finally won, they claim that it was all a MISTAKE? I know that most of the people who were responsible at the highest echelons are probably dead, but there are still hundreds, thousands of the people who worked on the HANA project, who knew that it was unethical, who saw what we we going through, who put us through it, and I know that they are still there, still alive and I just want to go and blow them all up.

She waves a hand at a rather cozy looking couch; "Take a seat and Pop will be with you shortly. I'll go get him, as he can't see to well anymore."

"Be nice to our guests, Jen. They've come quite a long way to be here. And they've waited quite a long time as well." His voice is rather soft, but it carries a lonesome tone to it.

Jen sets him down in an overstuffed armchair across from your couch, and as she takes a seat next to him he suddenly struggles to his feet. "My eyes are useless now, my dear. You'll need to move this closer so I can feel them. But first, introductions."

They are still of vital importance in our society, in our fleet. They operate in all areas of technology now - business, engineering, design, piloting... the list goes on and on. To be implanted takes a fair amount of money, and its more of a career choice now for the dedicated person. With enough HANA volunteers in the fleet, we operate quite efficiently. Nickolai's chest begins to heave, and as his pale face reddens you realize that he is silently crying. "My dear... my dear daughter... You are so full of rage, like Six before you. Can't you see that all we did was cause death and destruction? Can't you see that if you simply retaliate in hatred, it will cause nothing more than to drown you in an ocean of blood? Humanity is soaked in the crimson flow of our sins, the course of history has done little to stem that tide. You have every right to hate them, every right to hate me. But please, when you have lived as long as me, you realize that its simply not worth hanging onto anymore. You have to let go and forgive. It's the only way we can change them, change those people.

Yes they haven't done anything to change, and they will emerge unchanged - but the fact remains that they will emerge! They will come! And when they do, we can work on them. If we are already joined with these other races, the tide will turn against them, and they will have no choice but to fall into our mold. And if you must hate them, then hate me too. Because I created the reason for them to use you. Without me, you could have lived a normal life somewhere, not worrying about death lurking around the corner, not worrying about the consequences of failing a test... If you are so set on hating them, then hate me as well."

"No thanks; I'm fine just hating them. And destroying the whole Heaven's Gate complex, ensuring that they will not emerge, not only gains me some measure of satisfaction but it also removes a complication from your plan to integrate with the aliens. Because there's always a choice, even if you try to make sure there isn't, and some part of humanity will always choose the ruthless, violent, effective route." Bitter smile. "I must have been crafted in my makers' image, because I don't see why we'd risk them rocking the boat. A single, quiet sin, and everything becomes much easier. And I can forgive them when I know with certainty that they'll never be back to haunt me."

Make contact. Cooperate with the Seekers and the others. And in time, open Heavens Gate. But when they don't choose to fall into you careful mold and act like you want them, when they turn and make war again, when they again rain death and fire down upon innocent worlds, torturing the HANAs that still reside in their ships, then just remember. I warned you. And god help me, if I still live when that time comes I will do everything within my power to kill every last man woman and child to ever come out of that wretched hell that we call Heavens Gate.

Hey, don't be so surprised. This is, what the fourth time we've done something you didn't plan for?

    1. Bring Six back from the brink of insanity.
    2. Help Nineteen.
    3. Help Two.
    4. Spend some time thinking before deciding what to do with Kane and Able back at the main encampment.
    5. I forget, but I think you said that you weren't expecting us to do what we did wit the pirates.

Okay, so yeah, this is the fifth or sixth time we've done Not as Planned. Besides, did you really think that we'd do something as self-destructive as going to the Gate and taking it on ourselves if we didn't have the support of at least Six? We may not like it, and we may still hate them with a passion unfathomable to most, but we're not going to kill them if it would make everyone angry with us.

Also, heading over to Six's place means Hannah+Six quality time!

No one remembers the side that lost. No one honors their dead. At least that is what my father would tell me as he drowned his sorrows with booze. He would drone on and on about the way it was before the Uprising, before the Invasion. He’d also tell me how much I looked like my mother, who passed away shortly after I was born – the changing weather had taken its toll on her, as well as the chaos of the Uprising. She always loved the Spring, he would say. Then another drink as he would stare into the fire that warmed us both. The eyes of a broken man take on whatever they see – like the glass eyes of a doll. And in those days, his eyes simply reflected the flames.

For me, it was always Winter that I loved. The white snow blanketed everything and turned our small, miserable town into an untouched little haven. And on that fateful night, the snow had fallen heavily upon our refuge.

I was unprepared for the drunken man that stumbled into our home, and the noise of his entrance jarred me awake from my seat at the fire. Father was out, and I had not barred the door as I might have been asleep when he would have arrived home. The man was as shabbily clothed as the rest of us, and very drunk. I rose from my seat to angrily yell at him to leave, along with a few more choice profanities – failing to notice the nearly empty bottle in his rather meaty looking hand. He raised his bottle; the thick brown glass glinted dully in the flickering light of the fire, and struck me across the face with it. It sent me tumbling to the floor, and he staggered forwards to strike me again. I kicked at his leg, and he lost his balance, falling forwards with his outstretched bludgeon. It struck the floor next to me hard, and the end of it shattered into brown shining shards.

I had wrapped myself in a blanket to sit by the fire earlier. Modesty was not part of our household, as it was simply my father and I. He had always called me his “wild child” when he was sober. This stranger, on the other hand, had no decency at all. My bare back was simply an artist’s canvas to him as I tried to crawl away without stepping on the jagged fragments around me. The first stroke of the bottle elevated my senses to an unnatural clarity, as I screamed in agony. The second burned a stripe down my naked skin as the leftover whiskey clinging to the jagged edges made sure that the wounds would not become infected. And a third time, and a fourth… The agony was etched into my mind, engraved as deeply as the wounds inflicted on me. And in this terrible moment, this primal torture, I awakened.
