You are Alan Corset, a former Earth Federation Pilot in his early twenties who once piloted a Ball in the final few months of the OYW.

That was over five years ago, it's now September 1st 0085 of the Universal Century and your cushy job as a systems engineer for comercial space craft is up in flames along with your colony thanks to a Titan attack,

You've escaped onboard a privately owned vessel that managed to break through the Titan's blockade possibly with some PTSD baggage but with little else.

The vessel you were on, the East Dawn is now under attack from a Titan's Salamis class cruiser and in order to defend itself it's launched two mobile suits, which is odd considering this is a privately owned vessel.

You've volunteered yourself to be a gunner for the GM Juggler as a female pilot named Lihua controls the majority of the suit.

You are now the gunner of this modified GM Juggler. As the gunner your main responsibility is that of the ball. The ball is armed with a single beam cannon. There's a second but for some reason it's unoperational at this moment in time. The ball can be used as a turret or can be detached from the GM to be used as a remote weapon. The Ball when seperated from the GM has an operational range of several hudred meters before it runs out of cable. Anything short a few tenths of meters from maximum range means the GM can maintain full mobility.

You also have control of the three small missiles locked into place on the right shoudler mounted launcher.

Lihua has control over the rest of the GM but just because she's in charge doesn't mean she's not completly oblivious to some backseat driving. Though she doesn't trust you or even know who you are she maybe open to some suggestions. Work together with Lihua, be a second set of eyes for her, maintain battle awareness and focus on staying alive.

The GM is equipped with the following
    - MMP-80/90mm Ver.8 machine gun
    -- 32 rounds per magazine
    --- Three additional magazines
    - GM Shield
    - Shoulder Mounted Launcher
    -- Three Small Warheads
    - Ball equipped with a beam cannon
    - Chobham Armor

No need to push another thread off page 10 when this'll do.

A single blast from the ball's working cannon makes short work of the cargo bay bulkhead. A large amount of the refined metal is melted to slag with the rest simply ripped away from the force of rapid decompression.

It really hits home just how poorly armored the East Dawn is to beam weapons compared to his single blast.

The GM Juggler itself isn't unaffected by the blast as it too is pulled quickly towards the opening but this was Lihua's intent. The two of you are rocketed out of the detached cargo section like the drink out of a well shaken can of pop.

Not a moment too soon, you catch the sight of a battleship class beam cannon incinerate the giant metal container you left behind.

The GM Juggler is now out in open space, Minovski readings are slowly ticking up, soon radio contact will be very difficult.

You have a fixed position on the Titan's Salamis, it's a long distance away and a good view of the East Dawn which is on an escape vector.

    What do!?

Lihua is trying to pick up your allied mobile suit over any form of communication but is having a hard time doing so.

    >>8138464
You waste no time in detaching the Ball from the GM and a monitor to your right side switches over to a camera mounted on the Ball. The Salamis is a mere twinkle in the distance, the sporadic fire from it's own main guns the only indication of it's position. It's a very long way away, if it wasn't the East Dawn would be nothing more than a space hulk.

You do catch however a visual of another of the East Dawn's detached cargo bays. about three hundred, four hundred or so meters ahead of you and what looks to be flashes of gunfire.

Lihua however is a little too busy trying to work the communications equipment and doding the Salamis' sporadic fire.

It's a pretty long distance away but it's a very big target but then again so is the East Dawn and the Salamis is having trouble trying to get a clear shot off.

An attempt can be made at shooting at the Salamis but at this range any hits would probably lead to very light damage.

Lihua by now has given up on trying to get into radio contact with her wingman and is set into maintaining a defensive line here waiting for the Salamis.

Suggest moving away from the East Dawn to Lihua. If we can close the gap between us and the Salamis with the Juggler, we can send out one of our balls to attempt to shoot the enemy ship down.

Just a suggestion, but it might be a good method of handling things.

You make the suggestiong to Lihua to close in on the approaching Salamis cruiser. She's a little apprehensive at first, worried that the two of you might not be able to make it back to the East Dawn if you push too far away from it but after pointing out there won't be anything to go back to if you don't she hits the GM into full thrust.

There's alot more kick to the GM's acceleration compared to what you remember but you make sure the ball trails behind roughly 40-50 meters.

A few moment of adjust to the G-Force of acceleration the suddenly the left side of the cockpit is illuminated in a massive explosion. The second detached cargo pod you had spotted goes up and from it the thruster trails of three mobile suits.

Three GMs painted midnight blue, a golden eagle on their shoulder. It's the Titans. They've spotted the two of you.

Lihua's quick to respond as you bark away at her. Resting the rifle up against the side of the shield she tracks the closing formation of GM Quells. The three corkscrew around one another as if they're going to drill right through the two of you.

She unleashes a burst as the cable connecting the ball to the GM goes slack and you try to put some more distance between the two of you.

The Titan formation are quick to break as a hail of rounds closes in on the lead unit, ultimately missing as vernier thrusters light up sending the three Quells in different directions.

You lock onto the one attempting to get around to your right, the ball's in an ample position for a shot and you take it. A blast of thermal energy impacts against the Gm you had targeted, you think you've scored a kill only for the Mobile Suit to emerge unharmed, leaving behind a partially warped and melted shield in it's place.

The Quells open up their attack, the one flanking left opens up with it's beam rifle and the one coming in straight ahead firing off a round from it's bazooka.

Lihua has to throw out the shield to the left side to block the incoming attacks and fires wildly with the rifle straight ahead, a few rounds strike her target and the incoming warhead explodes a few meters away from the two of you.

Meanwhile you're frantically turning and twisting like crazy to avoid a few bursts from the right flanking Quell.

These aren't just any old faceless pilots, these are Titans.

    >>8139261
There are still remains from the third cargo bay that you can take cover behind but you're flanked and engaged by two GM Quells with a third engaging you Ball remote weapon. You need some space to get there unhindered and Lihua needs to reload.

Rather than aim for a kill, try to simply disable one of the units. Attack a leg, an arm, or something. That might catch them off guard and give you a moment to escape into the debris where you'd have a better chance of picking them off.

Wrestling with the controls you turn the ball around enough to get a good view of the GM Juggler and the two Gm Quells surrounding it. You fire off a warhead from the launcher and it arcs around heading for the Quell engaging your ball. It's not an accurate shot but it's enough to get it ignoring the ball as it turns to fire it's head vulcans at the closing warhead destroying it.

That moment's respite is enough for you to line up a shot on the left flanking Quell and a steam of energy is enough to clip it in the uppershoulder sending it out of control as the pilot struggles to get it back in line.

Lihua meanwhile lets out a battlecry and you soon find the two of you charging straight forwards using the shield as a ram. She's certainly aggressive when she needs to be as she catches the central Quell with a shield bash as it discards it's now empty bazooka and tried to ready a beam saber.

You make for the partially destroyed cargo bay, roping the Ball as you go, keeping an eye on your six with it. The GMs look like they're reforming behind you but then a new source of gunfire errupts from in front of the GM Juggler. The bullets whiz by your unit and force the Titans to break formation again, looking back at the monitors ahead of you you see something trapped amongst the wreckage of the cargo bay, a large section of jagged metal impailing one of it's arms onto the outer bulkhead of the cargo bay's remains. It looks like it's trying to cover your approach but has a limited fire arc due to it's impailment.

It's a former Zeon Gelgoog Jäger as pictured previously given a new grey paintscheme with a few white highlights, similar to that of the Juggler.

It's armed with what looks to be a heavy machinegun that it's wielding with it's right arm and a knuckle shield is attached to it's left hand however the entire left arm block looks to be heavily damaged.

Lihua brings the GM Juggler into a position where it can start wrenching the Jäger free from the wreck. As soon as a slight amount of contact is made between the two machines angry swearing fills the inside of the cockpit.
"Fucking took your sweet time. Was I supposed to fight three Quells on my own?"
Another woman. An angry one. Great.
"You did want to go first."
"Who's the jackass in the gunner seat?"
    "A colonist. Volunteer."
Lihua eventually rips the Gelgoog free, it's right leg is now in a terrible state with the various manuvering thrusters placed along it barely flaring up as the mobile suit pulls itself free.

You note that the three Quells seem to have almost give up on you, they've split now into two units, one made up of the two Quells that were engaging the Juggler with the third, the one now without a shield heading towards the Dawn.

The duo now seem intent on just maintaining a defensive permiter to let their collegue eliminate the East Dawn unhindered.

You bring the ball back around and take careful aim at the Jäger. Lihua get's up out of her piloting seat to look back at you, confused.
"What the hell are you going?"
    "What the-!?"
Before they can do anything else you squeeze off another shot from the Ball's beam cannon cutting the Gelgoog's left forearm clean off.
"It's a liability. The Titans might take advantage of it."
You attempt to waive off the two's concern.
"Your volunteer is a real jackass, you know that Lihua?"
Lihua reloads the Juggler's rifle and assists the Gelgoog in slamming a new box of ammunition into it's own heavy machinegun.
    "Jackass, Lihua. Situation report?"
    "Still the same three Quells."
You point out to the two that you notice the Quells split off into two units. You'll need a plan of attack.

The Gelgoog Jäger is in poor shape but to have held out against three of the Titan's latest mass production suits means the pilot is quite skilled. The GM Juggler is in good condition but with slight damage to its shield.

    This is a good idea.

You can get the Jäger into a better position with your own thrusters. The Jäger can still manuver on it's own so setting up in an ample firing position is possible and it should be able to hold it's own for a while.

Take note that you can only maintain radio contact with the Jäger at very close proximity.

Proceed with this and engage the unit of two GM Quells?

The GM Juggler pushes the Jäger into a fortified position amongst the cargo bay debris surrounding you. It's got a good arc of fire from it's position.
"Ready whenever you two are. Let's teach those chucklefucks a lesson about underestimating us."
The Juggler breaks out of the debris field at maxium throttle, too fast for the detached ball to keep up but there's ample enough cable for it to slog behind. You hear one last message from the Jäger pilot before the Minovski effect sends communications back to static.
    "Round two assholes!"

As the ball is lagging behind Lihua get's the first round in with this conflict. A burst of fire from the Juggler's rifle once again scatters the two Quells who return fire through a combination of beam rifle shots and a single bazooka round.

Lihua kicks the legs of the Juggler forwards in front of the body and you're it with rapid deacceleration G forces. There's alot of blood rushing to your head now and you feel like you're about to redout at a moment's notice but you're still alive as the Quell counter attack misses.

Even better they're unexpecting a ball to come flying out of nowhere and collide with one head on sending it sprawling. A little trick you learned in the One Year War.

This is the opening the Jäger needs as a torrent of fire hits the destabilized Quell, rounds shatter the side of it's face and make quick work of the right arm of the machine. A few rounds hit the beam rifle in critical locations and soon that goe critical and takes off whatever's left of the damaged right arm. Lihua turns her attention back towards the lead Quell with the bazooka emptying the last of her magazine in it's direction forcing it away as you take advantage of the situation one last time with another shot from the ball, this time removing whatever's left of the critical Quell's head.

A man down the lead Quell opts to disengage from the encounter, rushing to the crippled Quell's aid, grabbing a hold of it and pulling it away from the combat zone.

Giving chase isn't quite an option right now as you check for any sort of visual of the East Dawn and manage to see it a good distance off being rocked by explosions.

To make matters worse something new opens fire on your position, it's the Salamis cruiser, it's now in optimal engagement range and several of it's batteries are now working to supress you. It might not have seen the Jäger.

Three viable options here unless you see your own. Engage the Salamis. Support the Dawn on your own. Recover the Jäger then support the Dawn.

You make the suggestion to begin an engagement on the Titans Salamis. Lihua is quick to interject.
    "But the Dawn!"
"Engage the Salamis, force a retreat from the Titans."
"A cargo hauler isn't going to last as long as a millitary cruiser."
"We won't make it back in time engage the Salamis!"
As the two of you argue the Jäger breaks from it's position in the debris field and makes it's way towards the Dawn. It's slow progress but it's unhindered by the Salamis as most of the cruiser's fire is concentrated on your position.

The argument takes a backseat as everything boils back down to staying alive, the GM Juggler cris crossing between main battery barrages and the detached Ball trying to draw some attention away. There's no going back now as you're engaged with the Salamis.

Another shot from the ball inbetween manuvering bursts from it's thrusters, it's a good solid hit on one of the Salamis' forward batteries. It doesn't silence it but it's enough to limit the movement of the turret. The Salamis' answer is to fire a full salvo of dumbfire rockets from it's forwards launcher.

Lihua does her best but one of the launched warheads is denotated incredibly close chewing up portions of the Chobham armor and almost severing the connecting cable between the Juggler and the Ball. The Ball itself is also showered in fragments of molten metal. it's structural integrity is critical but it's good thing there's no one inside or they'd be dead, the main camera however is damaged and images transmitted from the ball are mixed with frames of static.

Lihua makes for a strafing run along the portside of the vessel, picking out anti mobile suit defence turrets with the machine gun, expending another magazine to do so.

The damage inflicted on the Salamis is light but the ammount of fire it can bring to bare has been slightly limited.

Then you see it... a shape that reminds you of the OYW break away from the underside of the Salamis.

    "There's a fouth mobile suit!"
This is your first time seeing this kind of mobile suit but that shape and design asthetic is recognisable anywhere. It looks like a Zeon Zaku except pumped with steroids and moving much more faster than you rememeber. It arcs around, moving nimbly as a series of thrusters mounted on what looks to be a back pack gives it superior speed.
    "What the hell is that?"
A single shot from it's beam rifle is all it takes as it snakes towards you and the GM shield is turned into useless slag metal. It continues to press it's advantage as it draws a beam saber.

    Current GM status
    - MMP-80/90mm Ver.8 machine gun
    -- 32 rounds per magazine
    - Shoulder Mounted Launcher
    -- Two Small Warheads
    - Damaged Ball equipped with a beam cannon
    - Slightly Damaged Chobham Armor

Have Linhua jink the Juggler backwards and launch the missiles into his face. Have the Ball try to get to position behind the SUPER Zaku and try to blast that backpack.

Lihhua is more than happy to comply.
    "Is that a Hi-Zack!?"
Again rapid deacceleration batters your body as the female pilot of your mobile suit tries to get some sort of backwards momentum going. Fire from the Salamis, it opens up preventing a retreat back resulting in Lihua picking an alternative option and the two of you end up zipping upwards instead.

You don't get a chance to fire at point blank at the Hi-Zack but you fire off the two remaining warheads to give yourselves some breathing room so you can focus on operating the ball.

The Hi-Zack itself fires off a barrage of missiles from a launcher attached to it's hip and inbetween the GM Juggler and Hi-Zack a series of explosions are set off as warhead impacts against warhead.

That's more than enough time, the Ball is in position and you're about to press down on the trigger that'll hopefully end this. in an instant the visuals coming in from the Ball's main camera are overcome by static, you think it's the damage it suffered from before but when you pull down on the trigger and nothing happens a feeling of dread overwhelms you.
    "Tsch running out of options!"
Lihua takes aim with the GM's rifle again as the Hi-Zack emerges from the explosions, supported by fire from the Salamis.

    FRAK

Well if the rifle's useless, might as well do something unexpected. Swing the Ball in front of you and hit the rockets. Ram the Hi-Zak and try and smash it into the Salamis! CHARGE!

There's an explosion, a massive one, a long way away, you only know there's one from the impact of the shockwave. You put it to the back of your mind however, you've got a serious problem right here.

You might have lost the main camera for the ball but you can still see it from the Juggler's cameras. The ball's only working beam cannon looks like it's taken a hit from the Hi-Zack's beam rifle. That doesn't change the fact it's a couple of tons of metal on a long length of wire.

With the last magazine of rounds Lihua opens up to try and slow the Hi-Zack down. It puts it's shielded shoulder forwards protecting it from the gunfire rather well but it's supressed long enough for you to gently nudge the ball where you need it and bring it crashing in on the Hi-Zack.

The shoulder shield of the Titan's new mobile suit crumples from the impact and sections along running along the length of the left of the mobile suit have taken a hit... But that doesn't seem to stop it.

    "I'm empty! You!?"
Lihua turns her head slightly over to you as the GM Juggler discards the now empty machine gun. The Hi-Zack although damaged scores a hit with it's beam rifle on the wire connecting the Ball with the Juggler and you've lost your last combat option.

You're now out of range of the Salamis' anti mobile suit defences which is one bit of good news but the Juggler now is little more than a GM decked out in Chobham.

Well, things just can't seem to get any better can it?

Is the wire big enough for us to grab? Use the ball like a makeshift mace?

The wire's been severed, the ball isn't attached anymore but I guess you could use the rest of the cable as a whip if that's to your liking.

No choice then I suppose - let's book it back to the Dawn. Hopefully our wingman will have taken care of that other Quel by now and might be able to give us a hand or at least a weapon.

Actually, wait scratch that. How far are we from the debris of the cargo container and how badly fucked up was the Knuckle Shield on the arm we severed from the Jager? Maybe we can make a grab for it. It's better than nothing.

The wreckage of the third cargo bay is now situated on the otherside of a rather unfriendly Salamis class cruiser from your position.

Retreat however is a sound idea and Lihua turns the GM Juggler around to retreat back to the Dawn, a few beams zip past the two of you, one scores a hit but the Chobham armor dissapates the brunt of the attack but's become useless to another hit from the rear.

    "The...The East Dawn."

The explosion from earlier. The Dawn's a mess as the cameras onboard the Juggler zoom in on it. Sections of the hull have been ripped open and are exposed to space, it looks like whatever used to be it's bridge has been ripped to pieces by several well placed shots from a beam rifle.

There's no sign of the Jäger anywhere. The Quell however seems to be returning from it's successful attack run on the Dawn.

Minovski readings in the area are dropping again, allowing warning sensors inside the Juggler to inform you that the Quell that had retreated with it's damaged ally has rejoined the engagement and is also on it's way.

As an added kicker the Salamis opens up with it's functioning main batteries one last time and the remains of the East Dawn are sheared in two by a perfect hit. Lihua slams clenched fists into her controls cursing like mad.

There's nowhere to run to. Surrender? Go down fighting?
    >> Anonymous 02/17/10(Wed)23:26 No.8145488
    >Surrender?
    NUTS!

Go down fighting! If the Dawn is lost then we have nothing to lose.

Put a comforting hand on Linhua's shoulder (if we can reach) and ask her what she wants to do. She's the pilot after all.

    "Lihua! Lihua!"
You have to shout her name out a few times to grab her attention and pull her out of the despair she was sinking into.
    "Lihua, we can still fight."
    "What's the point?"
    "For the Dawn."
There's a moment's silence then the GM Juggler turns to face the chasing Hi-Zack.
"I'll spot, tell you where they're coming from."
She nods silenlently as the Juggler begins to purge most of it's now defunct equippment, the rigging for the ball, the large length of cable, the empty launcher and the entire machine assumes a defensive boxing stance.
    "For the Dawn."
    "For the Dawn."
You've survived this long. Falling here would be an insult to all those lost in the OYW and the people onboard the East Dawn this woman and you failed to protect.

There's a burst of speed. The GM juggler accelerates forwards at the Hi-Zack. Shots from a beam rifle criss cross across the monitors surrounding the two of you in the cockpit. Lihua's doing her best, she's experienced, you can tell the only problem is the techological gap between this GM and the Hi-Zack.

A blast scrapes against the Chobham armor situated on the front torso, it absorbs but it's become useless. The Hi-Zack takes a swing with it's beam saber but you call it. The Juggler raises an armored arm which takes the full force of the saber, just enough time to land it. A full contact punch right into the face of the Hi-Zack sending it barreling away.

    "Right, up high!"
A Quell, you call it out as you did the saber for Lihua. A rapid spin. A leg whips around. Collides. Metal hitting metal with incredible force. The Quell is sent out of control and a beam saber slips from it's grasp.
    "Saber!"
Lihua acknoweledges and grabs a hold of it. Your eyes dart over to the other series of monitors.
    "Left. Down. Low!"
You're pushed deep into your gunner's chair as the GM Juggler accelerates. The second Quell fires a round from it's Bazooka, impacts hard against the upper right thigh. Inconsequential. Chobham armor cracks. Still going. It tries to draw a saber. You're faster. Open palm pressed against it's face. Fingers digging into the main camera. A battlecry. Beam saber cutting deep into into it's torso from above and down into the cockpit. A bright light. An explosion engulfs the Juggler.
    "Purging armor."
The Juggler escapes from the explosion, Chobham armor all around complelty useless now. Gasses vent and it's released from the skin of the mobile suit.
    "Hi-Zack's back! Dead ahead."
This feeling. This is what your lived for. Another cry for the lost. Let the dead hear the two of you. The Hi-Zack only has it's saber. It to charges. It's generating more thrust. Will yourselves faster. An impact. Saber against saber. Again. Again. Again. Exchange parry with parry. There's no upperhand. You see it. About to call out. Too late.

Monitors shatter in the cockpit covering Lihua in shards of glass. The Hi-Zack's performance was still just a slight out of reach, a well placed punch rattling the both of you in the cockpit. The juggler ceases to move.
    "Lihua!"
No response. There's no one piloting anymore. Static. A voice over the radio. A man.
    "Dogs. All of you."
Just the front monitor is responding. Peer over Lihua's unresponsive body. The Hi-Zack has it's saber raised up to the head of the Juggler.
    "Serve as a warning."

Don't be too hard on yourself. While it IS frustrating to have to wait, I do enjoy the quality you put into your posts.

That said, I think apologized said that Zeonquest was on hold this weekend while he goes off to a wedding. Any chance AEUG Quest will be there to fill in the gap?

Perhaps for friday. This is not the end for Alan Corset. There were possible better endings from what I could think might have been suggested or implimented but thinking about it now this was probably one of the more exciting ways it could have ended.

Rushing off to duel the salamis was probably a bad decision but we diden't know about the Hizak and would have had to end up fighting it eventual.

If we stayed with the ship we would have had a home field advantage however.

    Anyways, archive PLZ.
