The gentle pulse of informatin flows beneath your fingertips as you brush them across the surface of the data stack. Since your transformation has begun, you find that you're more attuned to the currents of energy that surround you and the secrets that they hold, although you have yet to fully comprehend their significance. For now, Drone is content to interprete for you, helping you to make sense of the strange new stimuli as you ascend beyond the confines of mortal perception.

You are Xeno, the sole survivor of an ill-fated expedition to study necron artifacts on a long-dead world. You awoke from cryogenic hibernation, amnesiac and confused, to discover the crew of your science vessel, the Su'T'ji dead or missing, the halls of the enormous craft stalked by the soulless automatons once thought to be inert. It was here that you became a pawn of the Lady of Infinite Abyss, a necron lord whose tomb had been pillaged, its weakened corporeal form brought aboard for study.

Since becoming an agent of the Lady, you've walked a treacherous path towards mechanical immortality, a nanomechanical phylactery pumping in time with your heart to slowly convert you into a necron as well. Through a combination of wits and will, you have silently undermined your erstwhile Mistress control over you, first reprograming your scarab companion and then taking charge of your own metamorphosis by embracing its inevitability.

The Lady has tasked you with retrieving some of her artifacts from storage on deck 3 before they can be claimed by her treacherous lieutenant, the Dusk of Uncountable Suns - a lesser lord who seeks to take advantage of the Lady's weakened state for its own gain, raising an army of slumbering necrons from their tombs to raze the galaxy. For the time being, your goals and the Lady's are parallel.

    What do?

You silently turn from the processing unit, your hand tingling slightly as you disengage your tentative interface with the datastream, and instead consult the information you've compiled on the ship. There are numerous security stations on each deck, although so far many seem to have been picked clean before the evacuation. You haven't paid a visit to the command center on this deck yet, though, so there may yet be something worth finding.

As you depart the data center, you cast a glance towards the various terminals scattered about the space. Each one displays a scrolling array of necron glyphs which you can't quite understand, but nonetheless recognize as a security lockout. The Lady appears to have taken precautions against your snooping.

It wouldn't be that easy, you realize. If you expect to learn more about your mistress, the best source is probably the research notes taken when it was brought aboard. Maybe you can even locate its sarcophagus, provided it hasn't been moved.

The chilled ranks of databanks gives way to more mundane corridors as you move away from the Lady's domain, exiting the data center on your way to the security hub. Caution guides your steps, however, the memory of the necron wraith that attacked you mere minutes ago still fresh in your mind.

It doesn't seem to be the presence of another necron, at least none that you've encountered thus far, but neither does it sound like the quiet murmur of air circulators or conduits that you've grown accustomed to as you've explored the bowels of the ship.

'At last,' an unfamiliar voice rasps, suffusing your perception in the same way as the Lady's - you instantly recognize it as a form of wireless communication employed by the necrons. 'It... is a pleasure, little... one. I have been eager to meet... you.

'That is regretable,' Dusk states, although if your refusal to comply had any emotional impact on the necron, it doesn't convey. At least the Lady expresses a grudging satisfaction when you defy its expectations. 'But very mortal. Prepare for unforeseen... consequences.'

The connection drops, leaving you to silently ponder. What little you know of the Dusk of Uncountable Suns, you've learned from the Lady... a being that you fully realize isn't much of an improvement, whose only saving grace is that it appears to be too weak to pose a threat.

Drone confirms that both lords are equally likely to be working against your interests. Deprived of the Lady's influence over it, your scarab seems to have taken a much more pragmatic view of things and has come to the conclusion that you are the only lord with serving on the Su'T'ji.

You arrive at the security station, sealing the door behind you as your apprehension begins to fade. Your brush with the Dusk of Uncountable Suns was disconcerting to say the least. You can't help but wonder what it's thinking, or if its actions are guided by nothing more than sixty-five million years of dementia.

Regardless, you find yourself once more in comfortably familiar surroundings. The security stations all seem to follow a common layout with broad, tempered windows overlooking the common areas of their control zones. An unlocked terminal sits nearby and several lockers stand ready to be inspected, although if past experience is any indication, you aren't likely to find a weapon.

Declare an action and roll 1d100.

Drone gives it a heroic effort, but finds the clasps on the container to be too much trouble and simply devours them instead, processing the packing material into neatly ordered atoms of necrodermis base for your foundry. Once the seal is broken, the scarab has no trouble in squirming into the case and popping the lid open with an extension of its wings, revealing the contents for you.

The sight is a strange one, as you're able to recognize at once how advanced and primitive the weapon is. Somehow, tau scientists have succeeded in replicating necron gauss technology in a man-portable weapon system. While there is a superficial resemblance to other infantry rifles, the necron heritage of the weapon is obvious in the pronged barrel and long, tubular focusing element.

Your hands itch as you pick it up, a sensation that you recognize as an instinct to break down the technology and incorporate it into yourself. You know with utmost certainty that you are more than capable of elevating the device to its proper specifications, making whole an otherwise incomplete copy.

You run your hands along the barrel of the gauss carbine, reshaping it like a sculptor manipulating clay. Components transform at your touch, taking on new configurations as your nanites rearrange the weapon to meet its full potential. When you're done with it, the boxy weapon looks almost completely different, a fusion of tau and necron technology that incorporates the best elements of both - there's a certain relevancy to it that you can appreciate.

Drone glances up from its feast of raw materials, stripping the security station of anything not strictly useful. Gorged with atomic material, it returns to replenish your own supply and resituates itself on the dock between your wings.

You flex the manipulators in your foundry, shooing Drone from its dock so that you can tool up. The scarab chitters jealously, in no hurry to share your attention with another construct but you assuage its concern by hiving Drone's consciousness into the new body - after all, you're not entirely certain you can create a machine soul from scratch just yet.

Between your reserves of necrodermis and the raw materials that Drone furnished you with, you're able to rapidly fabricate a brand new scarab of identical specifications. Drone regards itself curiously, one circling around the other as it adapts to its burgeoning hive mind.

Alright, so I'm thinking we should come up with a few ideas.

Firstly I think we should find some materials to convert into removable armor because we're unlikely to find any actual armor.

Second I think we should analyse the gun and try to upgrade Drones stinger or convert one the their stingers into a gun like ours.

Third We need to get drone some kind of shield generator or something.

Fourth I think more arms is a good idea, we could keep them under our wings until we need them. With more arms we would have more dexterity and more defending ability.

5 we should see if we can make one of the power amulet things.

1We saw it earlier. It chased us around the ship through the corridors. It can fit. Besides, why would they even build one here if it couldn't do anything outside of the storage bay?

    >>8429359
We haven't done that since we first necro-tized. We don't stealth anymore.

we crawled through a vent to get to the reactor and then we teleported to pretty much where we are now.

Okay, we sneaked once since we got necrotized. Still, having a bit of heavy firepower would be good. We don't have to take it everywhere since Drone can control several bodies at once.

we just got a gun that could be better than expected, and two drones with gun. not o mention we can fly now.

I'm really not seeing much reason for a big bulky tomb spyder anymore. especially since their pretty much weak sauce to us now.

Because it's fucking awesome, okay? I just want us to have something fucking nice.

First of all, that is not, but any stretch of the imagination, Erasure's best song. Second of all, it's a fucking gun. Big fucking whoop. We've punched out Tomb Spiders and Wraiths, we don't need a fucking gun.

why would you want a tomb spyder now that its been shown that they can be punched out

Because we have plot armor. Just because we're able to take them out doesn't mean they're not fucking awesome.

    >It's a meme get over it

It's a gun that could probably take out 4 tomb spyders from the SKY in the time and effort it would take to punch 1 to death.

more drones for are swarm is probably more cost effective.

Giant particle gun, DCCW, multiple wounds and decent toughness is not awesome? I'm sorry, what is YOUR definition of awesome? Is it a single character who gets unrealistically (lol realistically in sci-fi setting) powerful to the point where it breaks your suspension of disbelief? Because that's where we're headed.

ok, awesome to have as a luxury EVENTUALLY. We need one like we need a Ferrari.
