Well this can't go horribly wrong!

Background:
Central command was disappointed in your performance on your last outing. We've been monitoring production levels in Georgian agriculture and haven't seen the decrease our analysts predicted. However, having reviewed the footage from the operation, are analysis unit believes that the spraying was done to an adequate level for our purposes. Central was also aggravated that the road bridge was taken out, and not the more valuable rail bridge. They've still managed to play it up as further unrest and domestic terrorism, but it will have less impact compared with having a train, nevermind, its not important.
What is important is the next stage in the Maskirovka, we are beginning active ground operations, specifically around the capital region. Central has tasked you with seeding the Georgian water supply at op point able. As you can see their are several settling reservoirs in the area, multiple passes will be needed. Specialized munitions have been developed, I won't bore you with the technical details, all you need to know is they function like a standard gravity bomb. And before you ask, again, no, the chemical is not lethal, it simply produces the bouts of incontinence in those who ingest it.
We're still interested in the airfield at Op point Baker, especially considering the air assets you encountered on your last mission. Again, a low level pass would prove invaluable, the recon package can be modified to fit the aircraft you may task to completing this objective.

As a final note, I mentioned ground operations. Several Spetsnaz teams have begun activity around the capital. At 0245 local, group Vega will disable the main power distribution and relay centre, taking down radar coverage. Group Cestus and Finch have been stirring up dissent, and will organize local insurgent sells into riots. To aid them, they've put in a request to have the communication tower at Epsilon taken out. This will add confusion and delay the local response, allowing the riots and Spetsnaz teams to be more effective. As before, these objectives are secondary.

I saw the Planes and Mercs XX thread and went back and read every single thread in the archives. XXI happened while I did that and I read that too.

Finally in at the beginning of this one. This is the best thing I've seen on /tg/ in maybe ever.

HUMINT: Local Garrison troops are on alert status, patrolling the streets, some in mechanized equipment. Once the element of surprise is lost, expect heavy blind Anti-Air fire over the city, as well as some targeted fire.
ELINT: The Georgian government has been broadcasting 24/7, trying to calm the populace, and insisting the domestic incidents are under control.
SATINT: Confirms mechanized air defense, but cannot pinpoint locations as they are roving on civil patrol duties.
Air Assets: Unknown
Surface Assets: Local Air Defence Garrison is on alert.

Threat Assessment: Medium. The Georgians are still reeling from their conflict with the Russian Federation. We believe the morale of their military forces is at an all time low, and their air-defense forces are in shambles, however recent events had shown aircraft operating inside Georgia, suggesting external aid. While the majority of Georgia's air defence is weak, the units in the capital have been mobilized, and will not hesitate to fire if you are detected.

Seems pretty similar to the last mission all things considered. Having the ground targets be (mostly) blind is going to make it a lot easier to focus on AtA, especially now that you know the Georgians have at least some help from outside groups.

More stuff. I like the cockpit view a lot. The other drawfag I've seen is doing it on pencil and paper, and he's got a really good grasp of aircraft geometry. Foreshortening on aircraft is murder.

Hmm ok, again with the multiple targets. With only five players hitting all three targets is, like last time, going to be hard to do. At least the water supply and the comm tower should be fairly close together.

Here's how i'd do it... Send the two dedicated AtA pilots out to photograph the airfield but send them in separated. One goes in, takes the pics, and gets any aircraft on the field to launch...just in time for the second pilot to make his run and knock them out of the sky as they take off. Perhaps they should hit the rail bridge on the way out.

Have Scotch go after the Comm Tower, Sandy go after the water supply, with OP providing CAP. This only works if the two targets are fairly close together. Lets hope they are.

Shit is really wild now. The Russkies are sending you in essentially blind, into what will be a developing ground combat situation. Sure as shit the enemy merc group will be mobilizing ground-attack strikes, and since they know you're in the area, they'll be ready and waiting this time.

My suggestion is to pack light and go fast. You only have one target that requires precision ordinance delivery- I'd ask if the Spetznaz could tape a laser designator to a tree and keep the commo tower lit for you; then you could just roll in with two 500 lb bombs with laser guidance kits (they're not that expensive, really,) drop them with your nose on the tower, and you're golden. No need to pack six bombs for a ripple-fire strike, or whatever.

The reservoirs are going to be a bitch. "Multiple passes needed?" With multiple hostile SAMs and air in the area? At this point I'd be inclined to tell the Russian Federation to do it's own fucking suicide mission. Perhaps have everyone who can do air-to-ground worth a damn pack one or two of the chemical bombs, so you can all do a single collective pass. You only need one plane with a camera pod.

The weight you save going light on ords should be somewhat put towards air-to-air weapons and ECM pods. You're going to need to GTFO quite fast, and/or fight your way out.

I'd prioritize a low-level recon pass of that damn airfield, so you can finally know who you're up against. Personally, I'd be HIGHLY tempted to have the wingman follow up with a few cluster bombs on the goddamn field, if not an iron bomb on the runway, but that might violate your OPSEC (boo fucking hoo, Russia.) Still, I'd SERIOUSLY CONSIDER it.

Your other option is to have at least half or three/fourths of your force loaded for mostly airsup, come in high, and clear the sector right before your strike package hits, but coming in high invites SAMs, which Hugs can attest they certainly have.

All in all, I'd say- remember you can't spend money if you're dead.

Aces high is pretty cash if you can get over the somewhat quaint graphics.

My most memorable moment is getting more air to air kills sortieing as a single flight of Ju-88s than I ever did in a fighter.

I'll admit I was flying as Ju-88s mostly for the lulz (its a fun plane to fly), but the low level approach to the interceptor base harrying our forces was also sound as it took the long way around to an angle where there would likely to be little traffic. And the load out and speed of the Ju-88 makes it capable as an anti runway denial platform (if inferior to the B-26) anyway.

What little traffic there was flew at high altitude and was completely oblivious to my nervous flighty situation. Any one could sound the alarm, or just dive at me and pluck away at the sorta fragile Ju-88s in my flight, and make the whole mission botched.

Coming to the target, I flare up for some precious altitude. This would prove to be critical.

There were lots of 'LOL easy meat newbs' that happened to spot me as I got closer. They all were trying to climb and approach at the same time from the rear. As they got smarter, I put the formation into a steady dive toward the target to make my top speed a little higher than normal.

Still, they approach from below making drawing a bead of fire incredibly easy.

Guns blazing, I ran out of ammo before they shot me down. It was almost a 5-1 plane trading ratio. 'Epic' doesn't even begin to describe the series of gun duels and desperate fiddling to keep all the planes aloft.

At one point, down to one plane, I flew to the deck so that the last gun with ammo (top side) could get some defiant shots off.

Though I did drop the bombs, the real damage was done with the kills and distracting the interceptors long enough for my team to cap the nearby town.

Many salutes were had from the opposing team.

When I first read the Judge drawfag request description, I pictured a huge, hundreds of feet talkk Judge-spectre in gown and wig, with gavel and pilot helmet, bringing the gavel down on an exploding F15 in midair.

The problem with all the commentary on the F-35 and F-22 is that nobody here has any clue how good their stealth qualities are, and anybody with the security clearance to know damn well isn't going to be posting that data online.

We know that F-35's stealth is worse than the F-22's, but how much worse? Does the F-22 look like a gnat on radar, while the F-35 looks like a small bird? How far out can an F-35 be detected with modern radars as opposed to an F-22? We don't know, and anybody who claims to know is either lying or willing to blow their security clearance to win a debate on 4chan.

There are also a lot of details about stealth and radar physics that we don't know about. Does increasing a radar's power make it more likely to detect a stealth plane, or does it just increase the radar's range? Is it possible that a weaker radar with a better computer is actually better, because it has less noise to deal with and is harder to pick up with passive detection?

Radar tech outpacing stealth tech for a good many years? Right now, it seems like stealth has radar tech by the nuts. Publicly-disclosed info is sparse, obviously, but the F-117 appeared to be the size of a *marble* on radar. That's small enough that it basically got lost in the background noise from water droplets and dust in the air. High-powered radar is a countermeasure against *jamming*, it has nothing to do with defeating stealth. If anything, you'll get more signal noise.

Even assuming absolutely zero improvement in stealth technology since then, a well-designed stealth plane would still be basically invisible to radar. If modern stealth planes have managed to *improve* on the F-117's stealth... then radar has a looooong way to go to catch up.

I can understand stealth technology not being nearly as cool as slope-nosed, canard-sporting, hyper-maneuverable super fighters. But the real world does not run on Rule Of Cool. Unless there has been a quantum leap in radar technology that we don't know about, all that maneuverability just means you've got a better chance of dodging when a missile shows up on your six from out of freaking nowhere.

As far as we know current stealth technology can not defeat every radar on every wavelength out there. Note the "as far as we know". I could be wrong because I don't have access to the pertinent data. But assuming it still can't radar still has an edge...however small

It doesn't. Low observable is the buzzword right now. There is a reason they decided to abandon high stealth projects like the B-2. The trend is towards low-observable small armed UAVs.

Based upon trends in purchases, most people would tend to see detection technology being, and remaining, superior.

Low Probability of Intercept Radar - hows it rate and are there Radar Warning systems being created to counteract them?

Combine high-powered radar with a filtering software and BOOM, you get something that defeats stealth. Signal noise? If it ain't moving at the speed of an aircraft, ignore it.

And stealth does NOT mean you're completely invisible. Never did. Even the fucking airforce itself doesn't 'want' to try out their best stealth measures against current gen russian SAM radars, because they know that it will pick up evne stelath planes from quite a way out. But the USAF doesn't know how far out.

And that doesn't go into combining lower spectrum wavelenghts to pick up an aircraft to hammer it then with concentrated bursts of higher spectrum radar to achieve a lock.

If you're interested in the subject, check out wake detection radar. Pulse doppler reflects off atmospheric humidity and tracks disturbances in the air caused by an aircraft passing through it.

Sounds good. You gonna try setting it up for us? You need an interactive mapping system for one. I tried working a DnD game out online with the systems available and let me tell you...it was fucking hard to do. To many details and things to learn. But if you get it up and running i'd gladly play.

I told my programmer friend that I'd like to just do a virtual tabletop, I want to make it so that you need to have the rules to be able to understand what to do.

Oh, I mean Air War C21, not OP's game. I don't know enough about world politics to make a good Air Mercs campaign. I just do visual design.

I think it'd probably just be easier to use Vassal or some other virtual tabletop to move pieces around. Though I've never used them, so I don't know if they can do stuff like rotating 15-60+ degrees and whatnot.

I prefer having a grid of some sort but yeah, with the way C21 is set up it doesn't mesh amazingly well with any sort of grid.
