"Fly and Spider trade words and games,
While around the city dance the flames."
    -Lebron James

Plumes of smoke curl into the sky along a silent Kentucky street. In the distance come the pops of frantic gunfire. A pair of purple spiders the size of cars skitter slowly across the street.
A Corvette smashes violently through one of the spiders as it skids down the street, killing it instantly.

As you drive through one of the spiders, you lash out with your left hand, a whip of your blood shearing the other spider in two as you pass.
The ground is rippling like water around you, the buildings on the sides of the streets seem to bubble; that's probably just the hallucinogen from the fumes.

"We can't keep this up forever," your blood says. That's NOT from the hallucinogens.

"Ma'am, I think we're losing them," Brody shouts, leaning out the passenger window. On the hood of the car, your halluginogenic spirit guide, Spider Lebron, skitters about; he's fading somewhat, so hopefully that means the drugs are wearing off.

Check how much gas we have left and circle around for another pass through the city if possible. Concentrate on spreading the flames to non-burning sections of the area if we can. Then take a seat and watch how the horde reacts.

You're making your way gradually out of the city, but it's slow work. Some streets are completely webbed over, and you don't dare try to plow through for fear of becoming stuck; you wouldn't want to try this on foot.

The grenade launcher is out of fragmentation grenades, but you've set a small and rapidly growing portion of the city ablaze.

Alright then, in that case lets concentrate on getting out of the city alive. Find a strategic position of some sort to overlook the town and wait to see how the spiders react to their burning home.

We should attempt to alert the border patrol surrounding the town to shoot any monsters on sight. We need extra hands here.

"You have slain our brood, and fogged our minds. Truly, you can call yourself victorious this day. But we will snap the spines of your hives, and drink the fleshy nectar of your steel fruit."

You circle around the city, looking for a highway ramp to make your escape. The fire is spreading outwards from the central area you set ablaze; you wish you had been at the very outskirts when the fighting had started.

You dial Fieldson on your phone; he answers after about six rings.
    "Yeah?"
"I'm in Louisville; it's a bit more than I expected. You might want to tell the local perimeter to get ready for what's coming."

You are concentrating on the spiders swarming the road behind you, ad listening to Fieldson on the line.
"we're trying to get in touch with the military, get some eyes in the sky to see how you're looking down there."

You turn back to face the highway, only to see a spider the size of a house plodding onto the highway with deceptively nimble telephone pole-like legs. It lifts one as you approach, deftly slamming into the side of the Corvette.
You don't go sailing through the air, but you skid sideways into the concrete median, sparks flying and paint scraping off the side of the car. Your phone goes flying out of your hand, skittering out the window and into the concrete.

You slam on the accelerator, pulling away from the concrete wall. Brody fires a round at its massive undersection as you drive past, but it plinks off harmlessly. You also lean out your window, steering jerkily as you fire off round after round from your handgun, but the creature's hide seems more than capable of ignoring gunfire.

"Yes, yes, spit your iron raindrops," 96's deep voice booms with laughter. His thundering legs keep pace with the car easily even as you accelerate.
The spider's face radiates with a cascading spiral of dark, wet-looking eyes. Its three enormous fangs jut out at chaotic angles, thrashing viciously like toxic scythes.

The section of highway around you starts to collapse. It tilts backwards, and you ramp off the collapsing piece, chunks of Devon's flesh reforming like glittering specks of sand as you seem to hang in space for what feels like far more than a split second.
Your front wheels hit the stable section of highway, but your backwheels spin in space, the undercarriage of the car scraping noisily against the pavement.A thick leg misses your car by a few feet as your back wheels catch on the jagged road-edge, popping you upwards onto the road. 96 has plunged onto the perpendicular highway below this one, out of sight. It's brood are trapped on the other side, though you can see them descending the broken highway.

By his very existence he is a threat to everything around him. We can control ourselves to an extent - his power only kills, and we don't know if he can control it. Thankfully, gamma radiation doesn't have that much of a range - but it penetrates organic material with a lot of power.

Brody's soft snoring is like the ticking of a clock in the warm darkness.
You lie awake, gripping at the cheap hotel sheets. Outside, the moon is onstructed by the branch of a tree dancing in the breeze, sending a field of shadowy fragments dancing across the room.
    Those fucking shadows.

One fitful night later, you're driving south, bleary eyed. Brody woke up screaming in the middle of the night and you had to explain what was going on. Then you had to do it again in the morning.
Now you're doing it a third time as you cross into Georgia. You'd regret taking him, but he's sort of handy to have in a fight.

Even with those things, he's still a big threat to *US*, we'd be dead or completely out of action for weeks if we got too close, suit or no. A loud crash sounds to one side.
    "Shit! He's coming back around!"

A car veers into view, followed by the stampeding limbs of the giant praying mantis. Whipping a scythelike arm through the air, it opens the car like a can, the top halves of two suited agents spilling out onto the ground.

Blood surges up your skin, wrapping you tight. You let the blood flood out of your tortured wrists, whipping your arms up and snapping them down, watching your blood crack like a whip after it surges forward several feet. A pair of projectiles shoot off towards the mantis, which is currently biting large pieces off of one of the screaming agents. You don't THINK it's Walters.
