9 KB Doppleganger Damacy IX TempDM !!WBgKxxhAACV 05/19/10(Wed)19:23 No.9924792
The basic premise: You started out as a generic creature with no voice, no skills, feats, or special abilities whatsoever, and every stat at 10.

Whenever you eat a creature you acquire one of its traits. Permanently. For the purpose of this quest, that means I'll give you a short list to choose from.

You've been getting shit done, nomming citizenry and animals for five nights and four days. You've got a better body, and some gear too. You also have an ally, a novice human wizard named Claire. You're staying at her place and are paying rent as partner in her courier business.

Your presence in the city seems to be getting noticed; eating an aristocrat's son, and a member of a party of sword-for-hires, will do that.

You also got massive Con damage from a bigass snake while hunting last night, which is putting a cramp in your style.

You've just finished the day's deliveries; the lingering burn from the snake's poison has left you a lot more tired than normal. Also, it's been pouring rain all day. What is your plan of action?

You've got a few options for that. You could go back to the church of St. Cuthbert, you could wait until the Con damage heals naturally (a point per day), or you could seek potion-based healing.

    >Stay inside until the rain stops and talk to claire.
When you get back to the house, you see Claire and a man you recognize her landlord concluding a shouting match. The rain makes it hard to hear the specifics, but neither is pleased.

The pouring rain is making it almost impossible to hear, but some of the shouting makes it through--notably "LATE," "OR ELSE," "-ICT YOU," and "FAILURE." It gets easier to hear as you get closer, but before you get there the landlord finishes and stomps off.

You head inside after Claire, who whirls at you furiously before seeing that you're not the landlord coming back. At your question, she tries to smile and says, "Nothing to worry about, really. Just my jerk of a landlord."

"It's been my dream for--well, since I was little--to be a real wizard. Didn't know then that it would involve hours and hours of studying really dry material, or running my butt off every day to try and scrap together enough money. But at least I'm living the dream, right? And every time I'm casting a spell, I get that same glee of being able to actually use magic. It just seems like there's something new ready to pop up as an obstacle to getting there every time I turn around. Okay, here's the list."

    >Let's head to the market and pick up the components. Make some spot checks on the way, whoever followed us to the river may still be around.

Back into the rain. You don't see anyone else on the streets right now. Luckily a lot of these shops have an upstairs home for the owner, so even if business isn't good today they'll be able to help you out. You follow Claire's directions to the alchemy shop, and hand the list to its rotund, beaming proprietor.
"Ah, you are not one of my regular customers, are you? Tell me, what is your name? How are you on this most rainy of days?"

I imagine if there's any such thing as a magical zoo or a wizard who keeps animals (Owlbears, y'know) then she might know of it - and if I were a wizard, I'd be all for letting some super-doppleganger chow down on a few beasts in exchange for a little experimentation. Well, there's the thing - she's probably gonna realise or at least be suspicious of whether we've been eating people, so this is a decent way to admit to eating people without it being a *really* bad thing.

Or just eat her and get her magics. Though if we took her form, we could do her job and study to be a wizard while eating people and getting stronger. It'd be a good cover.

Too long, as it's not just a carbon copy of what happened in last night's 404'd thread...

The former. No regrets about joining, either, it's been fantastic.

Okay, bed. Maybe one more refresh after I brush my teeth, but otherwise it's been great, I can't believe we got this many posts, and I'll see you all next thread.

    I like Jack.

It's common enough that it won't stand out in a crowd, while still retaining personality. Since we're a doppleganger, we can always drop it if we need to switch identities. And since we're just using the first name, we don't have to argue about any last name shenanigans.

Rather, we'll EARN any last name we use.

Jack Kirby. I don't like names where the last part of the first name runs with the first part of the last name.
"Jack Erby" Unless we ALWAYS specifically sound out the end of Jack and pause well in between.
    >> Anonymous 05/20/10(Thu)00:29 No.9930547
Just Jack. Otherwise we'll spend half of next thread bitching back and forth about which one to use.
