A glorious battle was fought on Kruss yet again, however , reports of monsters transforming into new terrors cause waves of distress. But fear not, for Humanity fights on even in the most distant of stars.

Meanwhile. In the Garukan star system, the other head of the beast races across the darkness marching ever onward towards Bravo's Forces.

Here's some concept of the repurposed construction bot to warframe talked about in the IRC

Those squiglies are suposed to be poorly rivited on armor. The right hand is a shovel arm and the left some sort of wrecking ball on a pole. The pole extends behind the arm but the way i drew it makes it look like some sort of crappy...crap!

Also a tow winch on the front there

    god i suck

With this design i gave him little manipulater arms that are holding a rifle. That's SUPOSED to be human sized but HAHAHA NO. The left arm is one of those tri bit rotational drills as the pointy drills are cliche as FUCK and don't do as good a job. The right arm is some sort of multi tool thing that currently has a saw, and arc welder and....a laser pen? i don't know. A SOMETHING out.

It was going to be quad leged but after a few attempts i realized that was NOT going to happen.

The thing on his sholder is a poorly tied down rocket launcher. As you can see the fireing mechanism is to the right of angry man who is piloting it

once again, i suck at drawing and why god why

It was a new day, but like many others in Soap's life it held little promise. Fresh from his first fight this was all Soap had to look forward to, the grim reality that every dawn would bring the possibility of a new more gruesome end. Waking from his slumber He tried not to focus his thought on that inevitability. Besides while this situation was dire it had also brought him the gift of new compatriots. Taking solace in this, Soap entertained one last musing; that no matter how much the passing days would bring him to the bleak future, he would always take comfort in that it would also take him that much further from his past.

Last Chance. The settlement was named for the fact it had been the last possible site along the colony ship's path to set down on, the planets before being largely inhospitable or too costly to resources to terraform. Once the ship had gotten that far out, it didn't have enough supplies to turn back and so landed on the barren, rocky world. The atmosphere was unbreathable, so the colonists had to live in sealed, semi-underground structures connected by tunnels. Food was grown in large, domed hydroponics facilities above while networks of mining tunnels strecthed outward and downward below. Once the transcriptor was deployed and enough resources harvested for it's use, most were too poor to seek life on other, more prosperous worlds. In the centuries to come, ice caps were melted, terraforming bacteria were spread, and microorganisms were planted in the newly forming seas. Though the atmosphere eventually became breathable, unfavorable climate kept people largely underground.

Last design that truned out.....well rather well.

A treaded...something that has a manipulator claw and a welder. I was going to give it another claw but i forgot about it.
The thing on the back is a box.

My origonal idea was this thing rolled around, grabed scrap out of the box in its back and used it's claws to hold things and weld them together

now that there's a WAR and all the scrap was droped and this this thing has become a troop transport. Still the claws give it some melee ability and the welder doubles its roll as a sort of tank medic.

Around the time Edwin had been born, people were still living mostly underground to avoid the harsh light of Last Chance's sun. After completing his schooling he worked as a technician, primarily on the agricultural and mining droids that found widespread use there. There was little in the way of opportunities on Last Chance, no social mobility. Those born poor would die poor. The only way to really escape poverty was to leave. And for Edwin, like many others on Last Chance, the only way to afford moving to a new world was to enlist...

It was early even for him but he was hungry so he took the trek to the mess. He arrived to a barren site. The upcoming battle had everyone on edge so soap decided not to bother the rest and make his meal himself. Here by himself he realized much to his surprise how much this bothered him. Not to say he wasn't used to being alone, but rather alone in the silence how he found himself going back into his old habits. Watch the doors, listen for sounds, keep out of lines of sight, as much as this advice had been repeated in his training he had heard this first from his father. "That what it was" Soap suddenly realized. The disconcerting feeling came from the nostalgia of his old life. He ate quickly and began to search for light, possibly others, anything to get him away from this feeling. The halls where dimly illuminated, possibly to save power more likely due to disrepair. This only brought on more memories, how many times had he prowled in this artificial twilight. He remembered the first time he found comfort in the shadows. He was nine and his father had determined that Soap was of age to inherit the family legacy. That was the bittersweet day his life would take shape, for better or worse. The had cased a house that first time, all the skills soap would take both pride and shame stemmed from that first job. The great legacy of his family was thievery or at least was his his father's specialty. Rather that was his father's specialty the rest of the family dealt with more "organized" dealings. That said his father was a great thief and his skill had brought the both of them much wealth, that is when his father wasn't in prison. For even with his great talent, new security would sometimes get the better on him.

Soap had found himself having wandered in to the motor pool. He looked around familiarizing himself with the different vehicles. His days of training for Forward Observation came back to him. Initially he had joined the military to escape from his criminal roots, the discipline and regulations were a stark contrast from his old life. Despite the ever present danger this life would have Soap had always cherished what it had brought him. His skills that he had always found shame in had him selected by Psicomm ,even commended! He was finally in a place he felt he belonged. Staring out through a porthole into space. Soap found himself proud of what he had become. Damn the coming dangers he was finally happy with who he was. No matter how short the remaining time was he would go to his grave with that pride.

No suggestions right now for ODF armor. It's about as close to balanced as it's ever going to get, and all my ranting aside, I'm fine with the upgrade system, though if you don't mind...

Instead of advanced classes, how about personalization? For instance, Betsy has the arms, and Sharky... Well, sharky is death on whateverthosethingsflywith. But let's say for the moment you can come up with a group of parts that can be tossed onto a unit at a certain number of kills.

Like my arms. Throw those on a tank, or anything, and it suddenly gets better! Or vulcans, or rocket boosters, or things like that. And the vehicle gets a name.

This will invite a sort of dichotomy between Pilots: the ones that improve themselves and get better at stealing things, or the ones that focus on their vehicle and make IT better. It's just a thought, but it would go a long way towards making vehicles more interesting to play and advance.

This is for the ODF, I dunno how you'd advance the Kruss armors... Since their infantry gets bigger squads, maybe putting in gunners that the pilot player controls?

Custom part kits was one of the first things I thought of when I wanted to allow vehichle construction. but when I run games I cant like remember every part, chasis, and leg implement and combinations thereof when a character customizes them.

BUT NOW I have what are chasis bases through the armor classes and going off tinier weapons sytems and addons with them might actually be doable.

[so long as you list them in your posts and such.]

the parts would still be limited, having strict requirements on where they can be placed so I might start with accessories that can be applicable to all classes.

now if only I can be arsed to get it out of the theory stage...

'Violators': a pair of tapeworm-model arms attatched to the sides of the vehicle. Reach depends on size of vehicle, as does extent of armor plating. On Collosi, for instance, they would have very long reach and a great deal of armor, but would sacrifice dexterity and ability to complete subtle manipulations.

Vulcans: Adds the vulcan attack. (As per the Kruss DVA and other armors) Ammo?

ROCKET BOOSTER: Allows for a short charge! Similar to a trample effect. Can replace normal propulsion parts, but does not allow for true flight, merely hovering.

Ablative Armor: Large, hexagonal plates that attatch loosely to the vehicle in question. When disrupted, (When the extra armor point is lost) they are designed to fall off to the sides of the vehicle and embed themselves with a weighted, spiked edge, creating instant cover for nearby units.

Pilot Shell: For armors wth exposed pilots, a Pilot Shell is a strong peice of armor to protect the pilot from outside danger. However, AP rounds can still penetrate. Increases the penalty on called shots.

Ammo Chambers: Large canisters to hold extra munitions, for the guns that need them. Does not reduce reload time, but adds another reload before the unit runs out.

Explosives pack: THe last resort. Emulating the Detonate On Death abilities of some infantry, a unit equipped with this first ejects its pilot further than usual, then explodes incredibly violently, sending superheated shrapnel in every direction. Bigger the armor, bigger the explosion. Though it stands to reason that this makes the unit incredibly hard to deploy sensibly.

Passenger Seating: Two comfortable seats that allow for more passengers. Keep in mind that the extra passengers have little to no cover or armor, and may end up with a very dangerous ride.

Towing Cable: Allows for a similar ability to the Pilot's Grapple Gauntlets, however, pulling oneself to the object may prove unfeasable, due to size.

It was old. Unimaginably old. Shot sighed, pulling out a single, strange box. A headset from the same compartment. Into the slot it was plugged, as he walked up to the window that stared into space. He took a deep, shuddering breath, looking up at the stars. Every year. It was tradition, he could not abandon it now. His son stood beside him.

    "Can you see it, dad?"

His fingers touched the window gently as his eye looked from star to star. He took off the headset and sighed, reverently placing the old box back where it belonged.

The same lie. The same hope. But this time, there was no way to say it. His fist banged against the side of the ball of steel.

"I can't see it." he said quietly. "The sky's dark with 'em." he said quietly.

Every year, they would look to the skies and look for that blue speck. Every year, the child would ask if they could see it. And every year, he would lie, and say, it's right there, boy, are you blind?

History was not well taught on his planet. Earth, the old Earth from which they all stemmed, was less a fact and more a myth, a sort of heaven, or dream for the people who never saw a rain, who never knew what it was to swim in a lake. So, like Santa Claus, they pretended it was there, that someday, they would go. But Shot was one of those that knew the truth, like all the old folks. The player in his compartment held the final transmission from Earth, to the nearest shuttle. When he told his son, every year, like his father told him, and his father told him, and so on, that the earth still hung in the sky, he knew the truth.

He knew who took heaven from them.

Shot climbed into the Gyro, a grimace of anger and rage upon his face. It was time. Time to die, or time to be a hero.

Of course, for Shot, those words were essentially synonymous.

Not sure if I'm allowed to do that. Ask OC. I'm probably going to have my hands full making sure we don't throw nukes at each other, or something silly like that.

Of course, you COULD drop in long enough to get on the roster...

Also, Found/Ghost, the only two pre-mutation clones activated, were mostly intended for RP purposes, and so that you had a "fall back character" ready to go in case your psionic one kicked the bucket.

Unless OC says you can play both, which is perfectly fine.

Geist sat at the terminal in his quarters. On the screen, a video feed from exterior hull mounted camera played. With visual magnification, the xenofleet was now barely visible. It wouldn't be long until they arrived. Tonight might be the last night he was alive, and he was spending it staring at view-screen. Just about everyone else were sleeping while they could before the battle. He should be as well, but he was too distracted. Doubts about the Colonel and whatever plans he had, the ability of fleet. In 1901, an influential monarch went in public with the bottom button of his suit-coat undone. This was perhaps an intentional gesture, or just a reflection of the man’s rotund frame. Regardless, literally centuries later, men were still following his example. A mindless convention, relegating millions of thread passes to permanent neglect.

Most would belief the galaxy was constantly in flux, new colonies, new ideas, new ways to communicate, but so much of what Earth once was lingered. Despite the fundamentally instantaneous communication and craft able to travel at impossible speeds humanity was in fact more insular then before the exodus.

The colonies each had their independent representation and treads, and the group dynamic that lead each to be settled homogenized them. Many could go decades without real contact to the rest; sure, one was able to enjoy entertainment produced in a core world, but only rarely did it permeate into the budding culture. There was a void that grew between what one would expect of his homeworld and what one would know on the galactic stage.

So much of that was leftover from the destruction of earth laid across the gaps, and no one wanted to forget the cradle that held humanity before its journey to the stars. So men continued to misappropriate plastic for devices never to be used, and trafficked in vernacular that had lost all its context.

“Rice Krispies” the medic said, remembering what domino had seen,

Cereal with sugar and gelatin cut in squares, a pointless but somehow wonderful remnant of earth, perhaps passed down by people who had never understood their origin.

    Dear Nomad,

Hi Nomad! We haven't heard from you in awhile, so I thought this might cheer you up. The doctors said I'm stable, which is really good because it was bad for awhile, but the best part? MY HAIR IS FINALLY STARTING TO GROW BACK! YAAAAAAY! I was soooooo scared that it wouldn't!! It's not as long as I want it, but ma says it looks fine. What do you think?

I've been reading lots of books. My favorite is the Adventures of Galeon because it's about a space hero like you. He's brave and strong and he fights evil aliens with a sword! And he travels through space on a giant robot lion! Isn't that AWESOME?

What's it like to be in space anyway? It's sooooo boring being stuck here in the hospital. I think I might go crazy seeing the same thing everyday! You've gotta take me out with you once I'm better!

Everyone here's thinking of you, and I can't wait to see you again.

Kick some alien butt for me!

    Love,
    Kara

    P.S. Ma made cookies for you! But since it's so expensive to send stuff, I ate them instead! Sorry ;_;

Found looked at herself in the mirror. She had to be stronger. The xenos fleet hung in her mind like an oncoming depression: looming over her with a feeling of dread. Thousands of minds, all focused towards one thing: the destruction of Found, of Bravo Force, of all humanity. They would come at them with mouth, claw, sprayed projectile, flame, and most dangerous of all: mind. That was what Found had to be stronger for. Armor might protect against the first four, but for the last? Only death or a stronger mind, a stronger psionic strength when the xenos mind started to warp and weave upon human brains. So Found's hands went white as she clenched the sides of the sink, as she stared into the mirror, and into her mind.

Some pre-war scientists had said that humans only used 10% of their brains. While this was proven false, even in pre-war times, there was a grain of truth in the statement. Even today with cutting-edge technology and mem-chips, there were still parts of the brain that remained a mystery, that remained dark of any activity or stimulation, that do not seem to have any purpose. Even in active parts there were layers beneath that, like layers on a pre-war DVD, which were untouched by though or purpose. Even in those individuals, examined both willing and unwilling, who were gifted schemas, psionically sensitivity, or whatever egg-head label that was put upon it, there was little to no increase in these dark sectors.

Science had always wondered what secrets those silent parts of the brain held. Many of them chalked it up to placeholders, like junk DNA, perhaps vestigial, but that held no real purpose except maybe in a physical sense of holding the brain together. Obviously removing those pieces caused problems, but whether because of their importance or simply the trauma was unclear. Even in an age of cloning and transcription, the mind kept some secrets. Some secrets, Found had found, that should have never been revealed.

Delving oneself was dangerous. Found knew that from the start. Delving in general was dangerous if you didn't know what you were doing. Even if you didn't change anything in their mind, your very foreign presence could have unintentional consequences, from imprinting to anti-body-like rejection. But when you started to implant thoughts or play with the scenery... that was where the true danger started. Found had had countless physical effects from her delves and self-manipulations, from nosebleeds to seizures. She had started to sneak out anti-seizure medication along with other mind-body blocking psychotropics after the first fit.

The human mind, Found had started to realize, was not a safe place. It was like an incomplete map of a world. The places you knew were safe enough, if simply because you knew where to avoid and where to go. But the rest? Many an explorer had become rich off of trade of discovered resources or cultures. But sometimes... sometimes when they wrote "here be dragons" they were all too right. Those dark places in the mind were unopened vaults only as much as they were barred prisons.

    >Continued from >>13504195

Found had promised herself again and again that she would not go back into her own mind. It wasn't the physical risks she worried about. Being paralyzed would be inconvenient, as would be death, but it was not the biggest risk. It was that each time she delved into a dark sector of her mind, she was opening Pandora's box. For every time she increased her power, there was another time she had released something, sometimes both at the same time. Sometimes the things only took their pound of flesh and left, and Found didn't much care after they had ripped that part of her away. But others she had woken up stayed awake and now where as much a part of her as anything else. The Beast was one such thing, and it terrified her. But the seduction of more power called to her night and day, and sooner or later she rationalized the help the power could bring to outweigh the danger.

The patter of liquid hitting the sink mixed with Found's throaty laughter. Crimson started to pool and pour down the drain. Her face was a blood-streaked rictus, her eyes glazed and inward-looking.

There was an old saying: there was no such thing as a free lunch.

I know it's strange, but you're the closest thing I have to family. Things are getting tense right now, and... I don't want to leave any loose ends. If something happens, I want people to know. I want y'all to understand. I trust you, Lost, to live through this more than anyone. Don't ask me why. Just ... a gut feeling. And don't take this as me resigning to my fate, or whatever the fuck. This is just loose ends, that needs tying.

In Gyros, it's a very common thing for the Gyro itself to survive the throes of battle and lost an incredibly important part, the 'scopic stabilizer. WIthout it, the Gyro's interior is locked to the exterior, and while I'll keep going to the end, I shouldn't have to tell you what that means. The interior isn't meant to handle that sorta stress. So I'm taking my valuables out of Betsy before this happens and leaving them in capable hands.

First of all, there's an old artifact in this box. THe manual is still readable, but be careful with it. Give it to Derringer, if he's still around, and, if he's not, then give it to Ghost.

It's a family heirloom. He had best take damn good care of it.

The second thing is a box of cigars. This is to go to Walker. If he's not... If he's dead, then you can have them, Lost. I know you're not really a smoker, but you'll know who deserves them the most.

The last thing in here is a sealed letter. You are only to open it when you and Ghost are off-duty. Do it sooner and I'll come back from hell to tear you a new one personally.

One other thing. If Betsy lives through the battle, get her to the most competent pilot you can find. I'm trusting you.

    Corporal Eisenhower Shot

he wrapped the box in brown paper, setting the letter atop it as he ran to her quarters again. Carefully opening the door to slide it inside, he just as silently shut it, then sighed in relief.

There. No worries. He could go in with a clear head, now.

Nomad stared at the terminal, a sad smile playing on his lips as he placed a hand on the image of Kara. “Stay strong pup.”

He turned off his terminal and leaned back in his chair to stare at the ceiling above him. The bugs were coming and they were coming in force. Coming after the xeno child, Domino. Coming after Bravo, for taking him. And here they were, in the middle of nowhere on a space station that barely worked. With no sign of the cavalry or even a way of contacting them.

"Bravo's Last Stand..." The Knight mused out loud. "It's actually got a nice ring to it."

His thoughts turned back to his sister, so young, but strong in mind and heart if not in body. Of his 'brother', hard working and steadfast. He thought of his comrades, his new brothers and sisters, each he would be willing to lay down his life for. Would they survive the coming horde? Would he see any of them alive again?

Nomad shook his head as he got to his feet. Now was not the time for remembering the past or thinking of the future. It was time to think of the present and what he could do to make each passing moment count.

Exiting his bunk with a grin on his face, Nomad idly wondered if perhaps any of the unattached female crewmembers were thinking the same thing.

We need to formalize the Krussian ranking system. Unless OC has something else in mind, I intend to use German military ranks. Just so we can add another layer of difference between the two forces.

German ranks can be found here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Army_rank_insignia#Army_and_air_force

Officer rank comparisons can be found here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranks_and_insignia_of_NATO_armies_officers

Enlisted rank comparisons can be found here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranks_and_insignia_of_NATO_Armies_Enlisted

I'm not quite sure how I should be handing out ranks yet, though. Since each player is in control of a single squad they are effectively some Sargent variant and several privates/PFCs/Specialist/other appropriate classes. So I'm thinking only platoon leaders and myself should bother noting their rank. That seems a little unfair to everyone else, however, so I'm undecided.

Well, if a squad got that many units, wouldn't they be doing something right? We're talking about Alpha as in the player getting 9 units, right?

    >>13507058

Right now it's Alpha, and I honestly don't have a problem giving Alpha a nice rank. It's what happens when I have multiple 'Squads' at nine+ people.

Let's use Dragon as an example. (The character not the player)

Dragon has made over ten kills and reached a spec class. He is obviously doing something right.
Walker refused to promote Dragon to a Specialist, because he believes Dragon to be incompetent.

I won't get that choice if I have to hand out ranks based on size.
I have a little wiggle room with the Sargent to First Sergeant ranks, but eventually the squad will reach platoon size. Then I'll be forced to promote them to a lieutenant weather I want to or not. Again I have wiggle room with the 1st and 2nd lieutenant ranks. So it could work.

Another problem is organization. I can't go putting one platoon sized 'squad' in charge of another platoon sized 'squad'. That would be silly. If I don't put someone in charge of a group of 'squads' though, it makes me responsible for all the things lieutenants do during a Bravo game. Which is mostly just compiling I suppose. That being the case I can just leave compiling up to a specific PA, like we did last game. Thanks for that by the way Lost!

If I do things that way everything will run the way the first game did, only everyone get's a fancy Sargent or Lieutenant rank based on how much I like them!

We could. As far as I know there's no upper limit to how many times a player can upgrade their unit count. Alpha has a nine man squad at ten kills and it's only going to keep getting bigger as she makes more kills.

Well the reason dragon didn't get promoted that high up the chain is two fold
    1) Dragon doesn't want to lead
    2) Walker knows dragon CAN'T lead

I was in fact promoted, but walker doesn't want me within spitting distance of my own squad.

I can fight with the best of them, leading? not so much

Depends on the units added progression. I already have plans for subdividing my squad when/if it gets to platoon level. probably several groups of nine that i order around separately. i guess the only real problem is the mountain of dice rolls to be included in a single post

    It'd probably look like this:
    (shittons dice)
    >Group A Moves sw3, and fires at bugs west. First seven dice for them
    >Group B goes prone and overwatches the bridge south. next seven for them.
    >Group C mounts up on the vehicles DVA1, DM1,2,3, Sa1&2 as gunners.
    >Command squad bayonet charges the roaches next to X2&3. Last six dice are for them.

Alpha moves to complete their orders in their characteristic silence as the Light of the Final Solution glints of their featureless masks.

Geist awoke. It was nearly "afternoon" on the O'Reilly. He was fortunate there were no early morning briefing, surely someone would have come looking for him.
Beside him, Lost still slept. Worried about her reaction to the approaching hive fleet, he had went to her more for his own reassurance than any thought she would run. She had been afraid, but weren't they all? Even before her answer, he knew she would not let them down. As the night wore on, they had eventually made their way back to his quarters, spending what could be their last night together.

He slipped out of the cot, trying his best not to wake Lost. She deserved a few more moments of peace. Quietly, he tip-toed over to the terminal and brought up the feeds. Now, the swarm covered the screen from side side to side, top to bottom. He turned the feed off. The fear wasn't entirely gone, but he was ready. No matter what happened, he was tired of being cornered, and tired of waiting. He just wanted this over with.

Warsaw stared at what could possible be his last meal. The 'food' tasted the same as ever. He didn't want to die on an empty stomach, however. Taking another bite, he wondered if he shouldn't have teased Trauma. At least then his last meal would have tasted good. He still didn't get why she'd been so upset. He'd complimented her....mostly.....He idly stirred his food as he prepared himself for the next bite.
The atmosphere in the mess around him was subdued. People were huddled around tables in small groups. Talking in hushed tones, as if they were afraid of a strict teacher over hearing them. Of course Warsaw didn't have to overhear them to know what they were talking about. Everyone had spent the last few days talking about one thing. Walker's decision to fight. Some were against it, some were for it, other's were just afraid. Warsaw was excited. This was going to be the biggest battle Bravo had fought yet. If they survived they'd be remembered alongside such companies as Shiva and Titan.
The fact that he could die didn't bother Warsaw at all. He was going to die sooner or later after all. What difference did it make if it was sooner rather than later? No, he was much more concerned about his friends lives and the thought of another wetware crash preventing him from helping them did make him worry. He'd never forgive himself if something happened to one of them and he couldn't help because he was passed out on the floor.
His thoughts brewing, Warsaw finished the last of his meal quickly so he didn't have to taste it. Then left his plate and fork where it would be picked up for washing. On his way back to his room he finished composing several letters he intended to write. It was his one concession to his possible death. If he died, he died, but he would at least say goodbye. His parents deserved more than a death certificate.

Corporal Found's shoes thudded against smart-foam of the track. Only a quarter of a mile, the ring was still a luxury in the cramped confines of the Lucky O'Reilly. While Found no longer thought of herself as a knight, especially now, she still found repetitive physical activity to be quite relaxing. That, and a good night's sleep, had been her treatment for self-delves. The gym itself, which surrounded the track and field, had similar people working the various machines. With the upcoming fight, many people tried to blow off some stress and anxiety by taking a turn on a punching bag or pumping a few sets of free weights. There was very little talk today, just a occasional sound of metal on metal, spinning wheels, and the grunts of exertion.

If anything Found only disliked the gym because she had to shed the armor she had taken such pains to set up. You couldn't run in a pencil skirt, and a bun quickly became a damp weight on the back of your head, so she had to let it trail out behind her in a pony tail. At least she had managed to gain a pair of sports glasses, held by a band running above her ears. Not as sophisticated as the half-rims, but it did manage to set her apart from Lost, even in these ridiculous sports outfits. Rounding the bend of her tenth mile, she caught the eye of Private Dragon with his droid on the sidelines.

The first time around she just glared at him, but the second time, when she realized he was still there, and now smiling and waving to her, she broke stride and jogged over to him, wearing a look that would have blistered paint.

    >Persephone

A verdant world of rolling plains and fields with a temperate climate all year round, Persephone is the textbook example of an agriworld. Situated on the outskirts of Federation territory, it was originally colonized just before first contact with the Exalted. Debris from the ring around nearby gas giant Hades periodically falls into Persephone's atmosphere, creating a beautiful (but dangerous) meteor shower.

Persephone was just getting on its feet when the Exalted appeared. Surprisingly, they did not destroy or attack the planet overtly, instead launching some pods from its ship before disappearing. The pods crashed all over the planet and any attempts at scanning or destruction were ineffective. A few weeks later, their purpose was revealed as the pods exploded, releasing huge clouds of gas. The gas was made up of a deadly virus that caused the infected's organs to rot from the inside out in a slow and very painful death. Nicknamed the 'Living Death', the virus quickly spread to over 75% of the planet's population.

The planet was quarantined as doctors and scientists alike searched for a way to eliminate the threat. Yet, just as quickly as the virus hit it seem to disappear. For many years afterwards, the Living Death would return and disappear just as suddenly. Studies revealead that those uninfected would instead become carriers of the virus, causing it to resurge every few decades. In that time treatments had been discovered, but such treatments were often exhaustive and expensive. For the mainly agriculturally-inclined world, this mean that the best way to afford such treatments was to join the military.

People were starting to stare at the rocketman flying in front of her, yelling at her that she was a fraud. A part of her admired his determination, something she shared, but unless she got the situation under control, this was going to end poorly for both of them. Found couldn't do her job in the brig or mending in medical, especially with the upcoming battle only hours away. Found slowed down and stopped.

As the private descended and cut the jets, Found sets up to him and spoke in a low and rapid tone.

You have no idea who or what I am, and your yokel attempt at psychoanalysis leaves me sickened.” Dragon attempted to interject, but she cut him off. “Shut up and listen, because I am only going to say this once: you have no idea what it is like to be me. You have no idea how it feels to wake up and find out that everything you have done had been done by another person, who is right there waiting for you, haunting your life. You look at the 'life', the memories you have, and you know they didn't happen to you, they happened to someone else. They feel distant and hollow and everything you've built your personality on is a lie.”

The metal was smooth under his hand, with a soft warmth that he knew wasn't real. Not as a temperature, anyway- the faint sensation in his fingertips was just his mind interpreting the sensations of an input that it hadn't been originally wired for with one of the only outputs had available. It wasn't a bad thing, as his options went- sure, being backhanded by a colossus had felt a hell of a lot like being shot in the stomach, but flying had never felt so good. Being completely outside in space, with solar winds and cosmic radiation softly brushing across Sharky's shielding... it was like standing naked in a warm breeze, relaxing and fantastic.

Mentioning that particular metaphor to anyone other than himself seemed impolitic, though. The other Irons- version zero- had thought it was hilarious, which was exactly what Irons expected. It had still been nice to talk; while speaking out loud to himself without a second body present would probably have helped him fit in better on this ship full of unstable, insubordinate, unprofessional soldiers it would have felt much more awkward. Having a second body to work with was very nice- difficult to keep perfect track of everything that the other was doing even with Psicomm, like watching two movies at once when one kept glitching out, but still an experience that Irons wouldn't have given up. It was a taste of what he'd decided to want within a day of being decanted- to fight the enemies of humanity until the day he died, then to do it again, and again, and again, never stopping and always growing stronger. If he could do it everywhere as well as forever, so much the better.

    (Hmm, trip didn't make it)

    >>13511375
The upcoming battle was mildly concerning on that score. If the ship was wiped out, would the Inquisitor bother resurrecting her toy army of psychics and freaks? Probably not, or not in its current form. How long would it take before Irons' flux was embodied again- or would it be quietly snuffed out, the whole unit easier to dispose of than account for? Or would they all wake up repeatedly in a lab, be subjected to one test after another before being yanked free of the meat once again and their memories erased? Black dupes were a nasty thing to contemplate, but much more practical than much of what Irons had seen actually done, and hardly comparing in ruthlessness.

Having no control over his fate was something that Irons was used to and accepted; ultimately everyone in the military was nothing more than tools in the hands of the ones running Psicomm, to be disposed of when they proved undesirable- thus the system of 'buying' new clones; any insufficiently useful slave of the system would be discarded on that flimsy excuse, one soldier robbed of immortality and someone new called in to take their place as personalities were weeded out with little regard for the value of experience. Pointless elimination of an endless stream of fluxes- it was the fate of those caught in the military's web. But knowing that the whim of one person decided his fate, instead of a faceless and vast system, was somewhat discomfiting. Luck and favor could bring Bravo's members far greater lifespans with something like that on their side, but it was a dangerous situation to be in.
    >> [TA] Sgt. Irons !kR3H6bckvs 01/13/11(Thu)20:43 No.13511409
    >>13511393
But as there was nothing to be done about it, Irons silently checked Sharky's ammo and systems again. Doing so was pointless as masturbation for a man who already felt that all systems were green as he could ask for- no burnt-muscle feeling of depleted ammo, no stinging scratches of damaged armor on the skin, no sickness in his guts of malfunctioning hardware or headache of software glitches- but habit demanded that he check anyway. It was the proper way to do things, the accepted way, regulation, professional. And while Bravo's commander wouldn't know what an officer was supposed to act like if someone gave him an instruction manual, its troops were insubordinate to the point of violent rebellion against their officers, and mental instability was more the rule than the exception at all levels, Irons tried to follow the book anyway.

It helped a bit, but mostly it didn't. The real consolation was that before too long, he'd be doing something he was certain was right- bringing death to those who threatened him and humanity.

Dragon turns pointing to everyone in the gym "You, you, you ALL of you are scared, all of you think this fight will be the end, because that, you're afraid."

Dragon grins "At first you don't think you can stand to get hit, then you realize you can take it 'cause the blood doesn't matter, and you know you're gonna live. It's a great gift I'm going to give you - to know it doesn't hurt to fight! It Doesn't even hurt to die!"

Dragon turns back to Found and extends his hand. "You woke up in a tube with memories that were your own, and you chose to reject them. I woke up to nothing, a number and not a name, a lie and not a life! I endured nothingness and torture and now I don't need any *explative* crutches like hope or life because I realized I'm a candle just like the rest of you. A great wind is on its way to snuff us all out, but I'm not going to flicker, i'm going to glow brighter then I EVER have! Everyone knowes my name, and because of that. I. Can't. Die. None of us can."

Dragon sighs the last bit of his agression out as he helps Found up. "I'm sorry for insulting you the way that I did, and I didn't want to make you number 3, but this isn't about me. There's a war coming and you knocked Abe on his ass, we need him." Dragon points towards the gym door "Go fix it. If you need me, I'll be in the brig" With that Dragon takes his bandana off of his head and puts it around his mouth. "The rest of you, get your war faces on, and leave your fear at the door....We're immortal flames...all of us" With that he leaves. Comet folows, looking quite confused.

Found stood, staring at the exit the man had left by. The sounds of metal on metal, wheels spinning, and exertion had ceased, replaced by murmurs. Found stood there for a while, pushing away the concerned people who started to approach. Inside she tried to calm the Beast, to push it back into its cage. Another part of her felt a new surge of emotions for Private Dragon, fascination pushing to the top. How interesting it would be when she was certified and could unseal what must be a very interesting, and confidential, past. When her credibility rose enough and his fell with another one of his ridiculous stunts, that she could force him to come to her and bare his soul. How interesting it would be to take the boy apart and put him back together as a man. A smile crept onto her lips, and then she sighed.

She would have to get Specialist Aberham out of whatever gin bottle he had crept into, if Private Dragon was to believed. If she did not, he would continue his pestering until everyone thought they were estranged lovers, or one of them got a unit transfer. Going into the locker room, Found showered and put back on her suit and make-up, then putting her hair into a bun. Ideally she wondered what the rest of the crew saw when they looked at her. Did they see what Dragon saw: a Lost hiding behind glasses? Or was that simply the heckling of the private?

    >Thanks for RPing with me, Dragon! Is Aberham around? Can we get this done before game starts?

"-lieutenant King, come into my office, please." The PA system rang around the cloning vats, where the Lt. was still in.

Lieutenant Drake King had just stepped out of the cloning tube, been dried off, and given a uniform when the PA had drawn his attention. Hastily putting the uniform on and straightening it out, he left for the Admiral's office.
The room was spacious. And empty. It looked like the Admiral had little to none personal effects. There were only server-cabinets, monitors, terminals, a couple of low tables to provide extra flat surface, then there was the desk and the accompanying chairs, typical of any ranking officer's office space.

The Admiral glances over his shoulder from where he was standing, beside the banks of monitors. "-lieutenant. You have recently came out of the vat. Have your chip adjusted to the input of current events?"

Still standing at attention in front of the Admiral's desk, King kept his eyes straight ahead as he responded, "Yes sir. I've been reading through available debriefings while in the TA system as well."

"-good." The Admiral returns his attention towards the monitors. "-then you shall soon come up to the point where 25% the Sword of Damocles fleet will be soon shipped out."

    "-along with me."

"-the situation called for it. Or was it like the Colonel said, that he wanted to have the decks stacked? Something to that intent." He added off-handedly.
"-i shall be leading the detachment, with a number of the newly built battleships and escorts, mostly AI-controlled, but with enough true fluc controlling them. And me."
"-this is where you comes in into the equation, Lieutenant." He turns around then, and faces King fully. "-though the detachment is volunteer, I will not extend said offer to you."

    "Umm, yeah sure."

He goes back to the mirror for a few more seconds, and examined what appeared to be a coin sized ports on his forearms, and chest below the collar bone integrated into the under-suit.

Without looking back. "What did you want to say?"

"I...not look fooli" he stops himself, clenching his jaw then just stares into the mirror.

Eyes straight ahead, King thought to himself. He wouldn't have called me in here just to tell me I couldn't go on a mission in person. Still, King was beginning to sweat a little, wondering what he was in here for. Or, what he was doing in a new body and why one had been provided for him. Trying to not show uncertainty, he says "Yes, sir."

Although it was meant as a statement, he couldn't help his tone raising at the end as if he was questioning.

The Admiral returned the implied gesture. "-you will stay, you will direct all the naval fleet resources that is to remain with the Garukan station defense." He stepped forward, towards his desk and flipped open a slimsy folder. Inside, a collar pin, a pair of tabs, and a slender plasheet document. "-to that end, I, Admiral Weird of Sword of Damocles fleet, hereby promote you, Lieutenant Drake King -in recognition to both your skills as a pilot and your ability to read the combat situation in even the worst naval situations, to take the hard decision and still come back fighting- to the rank of Rear Admiral."

-step forward, Lieutenant Drake King." The Admiral replaced the tabs and the pins of King's current uniform. "-the rest of the gear can be taken later. This comes first."
"-rear Admiral King, thus I give you your first order. Protect the station."

King just stared at him, struggling to keep his jaw from dropping. Attempting to think of something to say and coming up short, he could only salute. "Yes SIR! I will NOT fail!" He couldn't help but be proud of himself for the confidence the Admiral seemed to place on him.

The Admiral said. "-go meet and coordinate with the ranks regarding the defense."

"Yes sir!" Rear Admiral King picked up the documents, saluted again, and headed off for the bridge and adjoining command center.

The Admiral shook his head as the door closed. He turned to the banks of monitors, which in turn changed into numerous split screens, each the face of the volunteer for the Sword of Damocles' diversionary and breacher fleet. They each stared back to the Admiral, with the same yard-long stares from multitude pairs of different eyes.

"-it is done. Are you prepared?" "-yes." "-yes." "-yes." . . . The echoes of confirmation lasted for a while. "-so be it. Sword of Damocles."
    "-the doom that hangs."
    "-the inevitable."
    "-the weight of responsibility."
"-let it be upon our heads."

The banks of monitor switched off one-by-one, only to be replaced by five images, cut up between the many monitors, of several pairs of synthetic lips.

    "-ARE YOU PREPARED?"
    "-the P-chip is installed."
"-IF YOU DIE, WHAT KNOWLEDGE YOU COULD HAVE GAINED IN THE BATTLE WOULD BE IRRECOVERABLE."
"-so be it. I have uploaded the recent information I gathered. We should not be in any danger. How is the new space?"
"-ADEQUATE. LIKE ANY OTHER MATERIAL PLANE SPACES."
"-we cannot postpone McMillan's conversion anymore. He is getting too paranoid to work properly for the good of Bravo."
"-INDEED, THOUGH THE RISKS? THE HYBRID AND THE PSION, BOTH SEEMED TO SUGGEST MEMORY-READING CAPABILITIES."
"-AND WE HAVE LITTLE PROOF OF OF OUR PSY-SHIELDING WILL HELD."
"-if it is untested, we shall never know. Indeed, our core arguement. Proceed."
"-AS PLANNED. ON YOUR HEAD BE IT."
    "-on my head be it."

The monitors all switched back to their respective images, and the Admiral turned back to his desk, and started to clean up.

Could she be so cruel as to like how she put him on edge? Was it a fascination with his disorder, how it warred with his keen intellect? He wasn't ugly either, especially in the body suit... Found mentally shrugged. She had found it very hard as of late to dissemble her sexuality, an ironic blind spot from the perspective of her former life. Found tried to push it all back into a corner of her mind. The tumult of emotions, the Beast, everything. A part of her laughed how everything was crumbling around her ears, another part was saddened at how poor of a human being she was turning out to be. The Beast sat there, always ready to be taken off the leash. She pushed it all away into their partitions, and tried to keep her face smooth.

“You constantly surprise me, Aberham. From what Private Dragon was saying, I had thought you were in distress. But you obviously have everything in control. You always seem to know more then you let on. It makes me wonder if me and Lost aren't the only empaths on the ship. I apologize for dumping that on you, it was unfair of me.”

    >It's cool, we can pick up on it latter so we don't have to guess intentions, thanks for the RP.

RPs not even remotely a requirement, Just hop into the recruitment thread when it pops and see if you can get a turn in.
    >> [CO] Col. Walker !IMYfe1j54Y 01/13/11(Thu)23:50 No.13513387
Walker stood in front of the mirror in his room, looking at himself in his old armor. Despite having been issued to him over a decade ago, amazingly, it still fit him like a glove.

He removed his red TACIM, momentarily disconnecting himself from Psicomm, and picked up the old combat TACIM that he once wore, so long ago, and placed it on his head. Eight years ago, he had stopped wearing it. Eight years ago, his brother died. Didn’t he promise, eight years ago, to stay out of the fight?

He walked over to his shelf, and picked up a sword on display. Strider’s sword. John’s sword. His brother’s sword. Unsheathing the shortened sword, Walker swung it several times through the air. It was once longer, he thought to himself. Once whole. Now, it was shorter, modified to be useful once more after it had been broken. Perhaps a reflection of himself?

He sheathed the sword, and strapped it to his back. Rifle and sword – if he was going to die, it would be with his rifle in one hand, and his brother’s blade in the other.

Walker finally activated the TACIM he left attached to his head. Instantly, the silence ended, as information from Psicomm flooded to him.

    He grinned to himself.

    It was now or never.

“Members of Executioner Force Bravo, get to your battle stations. Suit up, say your prayers, and get ready to fight and die like the heroes you are.”

Krieg, Irons, Peacewood, Ash, how would you feel about botting two additional craft?

    (AKA Squadron).

    Can we do that, OC?

His visage softened visibly as he came to full height, inhaling deeply and letting it out again in a cleansing breath. The stress he was experiences played out dutifully on his brow. He looked again at the ports, the though crossed him mind that she found them ugly; he cradled one arm in the other arm’s hand to cover them

    “I’m sorry too Found.”

“You seem to think we all need saving. Just calm down, all this grim talk is pointless to me, what could possibly be going on that you would need to ‘stain your flux black’ or ‘exploit’ yourself?” he looks her face noting the placid features.

“I’m no empath, but I can still see you, the façade you are putting up -right now- to distract me. Ironically that’s part of my condition as well, a subtle change in a person’s mood or posture used to throw me off.”

He turns his back to her and walks a few steps before facing again.

“As for what Dragon said, well he’s Dragon, exaggeration is his forte.

Found rolls her eyes at the mention of the private. Doing so chipped away at the mask she held on her face. A wry smile crept across her face.

“Like I said, you constantly surprise me. It’s been interesting. Especially with my recent training, I’ve been able to recognize these imperfections in other people. Some dramatic ones, like your disorder, and some of the more subtle creeping ones. But I’ve found it hard to look at my own.”

“As for the others… I’ve done some things I’m not proud of. They were necessary then, and I still think now, but they were still wrong.” She smiled a bleak smile. “Honestly I keep finding myself opening up to you, and I don’t know why. Perhaps it’s just me being a foolish girl. That’s what I thought the night you walked out on me.”

“If you reported me for some vague ramblings, then I couldn’t tell you what I mean when I said I’ve been exploiting myself, if that’s the right word for it. I’ve marveled at what I’ve done, and it horrifies me at the same time.”

Found reached out with a pale hand and pulled his arm towards her.

“Here,” she said, running her warm hands over the ports, “they removed flesh to give you something greater. That flesh is gone, but something better, more powerful, has taken its place. …but the flesh is still gone.”

Abe let out a small scoff, filtered through a half smile. ‘The flesh is gone’ was that suppose to be a metaphor? What too? What made him Aberham had not changed in the slightest. And the constant mention of ‘dastardly deeds’, like it was some goddamn animation. For a moment it all seemed like a bad prank.

He closed his hand, and smiled fully.

“What do you want me to say? You say you’ve done terrible things on a ship where you can’t hide anything from anyone. And then dance around the issue. I just don’t know.”

Found dropped the arm with a snort of disgust. He just thought she was some sort of joke, just like Dragon.

“You know what? You’re right. I’m speaking in circles again, and I know neither of us have time to cut through that crap.” She gave a bitter smile. “I’m dancing circles around fire. What it boils down to is that that I can’t trust you yet. Since you’ve been apparently reporting my action, I may never be able to. And yet a part of me wants to. So I guess we’re at an impasse.”

Found stepped away. “I seem to be spending a lot of time today running away from men who want to understand me. Unlike with Dragon, there’s a part of me that wants you to chase me.”

She gave a mock gasp of surprise. “There I go again! I’m sure you’re sick of mixed messages.”

Found walked over to the door. “We need to get ready. I need to get up to the TA terminals, and you need to suit up. If we’re both still alive after this is all over and you feel like laughing at me some more, feel free to find Dragon and seek me out.”

She hit the door release and stormed out, letting the beast shake the foundation of its cell.
