We must be nearly at the end by now, surely?

You are Commander David Lister, elite Mobile Suit pilot for the Legitimate Principality of Zeon and CO for the elite independant Nactmaren Unit.
After intervening in the battle of California to pick up some reinforcements, you've just returned to space to come to the aid of a beleaguered Char Aznable from fending off all of the Gundams.
    ALL OF THEM.

Looks like we'll have our hands full in this one.

Hey Apologized, didn't you say this was supposed to end at 50, but grew into a life of its own?

The journey back to where you started at the American orbital drop zone occurs without incident. Once you arrive you quickly take stock of the situation. The three Musai class carriers appear to be vigilantly continuing their patrol of the area, whilst the Papua Support Vessel is continuing to go about refeuling more HLV's.

Of the HLV's that came up with you, some are still arriving, whilst those that are already here are disgorging their cargo of Mobile Suits. The HLV's containing the supplies and Anti-Beam Chaff have not yet been touched however.

You order the Mobile Suits to begin resupplying AB chaff and ammo to whoever needs it, although as planned there's still a fair amount of it left over for your original plan to stuff them into HLV's and have those ships explode in the middle of enemy lines scattering their chaff over a wide area.

The Solomon reinforcements went directly to the battle. Dozle himeslf is said to have joined the battle as well, from the transmissions you're able to get off the tactical net, his arrival stabilised the situation somewhat, as most of the Grenada force had been badly mauled and was at 70% casualties, with the line beginning to degrade. Federation casualties are estimated to be less than 20% at this point in the battle.

Hovis reports in from the Paupua, that the work on the Val Velo is nearly finished, she might not be up to a parade inspection, but the MA is ready for combat.

You organise a short term command network with the Cruisers and friendly mobile suits

Have Hovis and the engineering team finish up repairs on the Val Velo.
Once that's done and everyone's been fueled up, have the Papua get out of here and get everyone in formation for the battleplan.

Make last minute checks that everyone knows the plan, then move out.

The one time you DON'T want to make a complicate multi-part strategy complete diagrams is the ONE time I ask if you could do it. Gah.

Fine, we'll use a three dimensional formation in the form a pyramid, with the Outer Heaven as the point with the three Musai's behind in a vertical triangual formation. Behind them will be the Papua, escort by 3 Zaku F2's.

The engineers can rig the HLV's to deploy a stream of AB Chaff as they journey into the heart of the enemy before making sure that when they explode, the AB Chaff dispersal is as optimum as possible. The HLV's themselves will have to be towed by the ships and then set up into position just before the attack begins.

    There, how does that sound?

Garma didn't really have time to think all that cleverly about the forces that he was sending up with you, you don't have any Recon Zaku or fighters or anything apart from Calvin.

You can deploy him forward along with several other picket squads of rotating mobile suits.
You don't have enough space with your ships to house all of the MS with you inside various ships hangars anyway, so several of them are going to have to clamp onto the outside and ride into battle anyway.

You set up the formation and the plan, engineers on the Papua immiediately get to work tethering and then preparing the HLV's for the mission. Meanwhile you set up the picket duties, making sure that Calvin and Hovis are supporting each other as usual.

Now with that done, you make your way towards the enemy. The journey will take about an hour, once again it's a case of hurry up and wait.

You take this oppourtunity to make sure that your suit is fully readied for combat, and you urge the rest of the team to make sure that they do likewise whilst they're in the hangar and not on the picket.

    BRB DINNER.

So, here's the question: do we go after Revil in the obviously well-guarded battleship with the Midnight Pixy Deathsquad (who likely have EXAM suits), or do we concentrate on the Feddy grunts and support ships?

We could go after enemy aces, or simply do so much damage to their conventional forces that it doesn't matter if their aces survived.

    >> Anonymous 01/28/11(Fri)14:35 No.13691910
    >>13691827

Confirm that. Numerical superiority is the Federation's biggest advantage- although if we run into an ace, the idea of using their own numbers as cover for wreaking havoc is highly amusing.

Speaking of which, I'd suggest liberal use of close combat techniques. We're going to have more targets than ammo this time, unless we can manage to get some of them to explode where they'll damage other Federation assets in turn.

We might want to see what kind of supply line they've got set up to the battle, and rip our way through that first. Deprived of reserves and with a fresh force at a new attack angle, the enemy may choose to retire or at the least be forced to reform in a less aggressive stance- and if I were Revel, I'd be shielding those supply elements as far from Char and any opportunity for chaos as possible. Which means closer to us.

Norris you haven't seen since Jaburo II, it's possible he survived the Federations assault on the Peking base, but it's equally likely that he died as before.

Johnny Ridden is probably still Kycillia's honour guard and is probably wherever she is.
Hell, it's possible that he's the only military force in Grenada at the moment.

Shin Matsunaga however is quite possibly getting stuck in as we speak, as there is an excellent chance that where Dozle is, Shin will also be.

The situation of Nimbus Schwarzen is also undetirmined. As are several of the IGLOO doomed aces.

You approach the battlefield, it's already clear that a fierce battle has been raging for some time, the shattered ruins of drifting warships can be seen, which are now at least affording friendly (and unfortunately enemy) forces some cover. Combat appears chaotic, with the Federation dealing with attacks from two directions, the still relatively fresh Solomon forces, with two Gwazine class battleships at it's centre, whilst a much smaller but equally detirmined force of survivors from the Grenada fleet harrasses it from another.
Whilst the forces you possess are relatively meagre compared to what the Solomon and Grenada forces have, you're hoping on the element of suprise as well as your anti-beam chaff assault to make your mark.

You double check that everyone knows the plan. Once the assault begins the engineers estimate that the chaff will disperse in 15 minutes or less, so you all have to cause as much damage to enemy forces and then pull out to safety within that time limit.

You check again your suits status: all lights show green.

"Prepare the HLV's for the charge." you order.

The HLV's flare brightly, like six newborn stars and hurl themselves towards the enemy lines, although they are quickly spotted, the speed at which they're advancing means that the enemy has a short window of time to react.
Beam lance out, strobing at the new targets, but luckily a thin layer of anti-beam chaff manages to deflect the worst of this. Unguided missiles surround the targets, ending in explosive blooms.

Behind this chaotic storm, you and your forces surge forward at full speed, taking advantage of the AB-Chaff wake from behind the 6 HLVs.
The captial ships behind you are firing off any beams they have now before the AB Chaff becomes too heavy and degrades their firepower, where they will switch to conventional weaponry.
Your squad has done as much as possible to optimise in that regard as well. You've taken your Bullpup as well as a Zaku Bazooka, whilst several others in your squad have taken backup 90mm SMG's and similar weapons.

Inevitably however, the HLV's can only take so much attention. As they begin to push past the Salamis and Magellan class vessels and their defending GMs and Balls they begin to encroach on the territory of the Pegasus class assault carriers and their much more fearsome weaponry. The first one explodes to a combined crossfire from a pair of these ships.
Then the faster and more heavily armed Mobile Suits of the Federation are getting involved.
A Sniper II manages to pierce the fuel tanks of one, and it explodes in a mighty fireball, scattering Anti-Beam chaff over a large distance.
Another loses it's port stabilisation thrusters to flak from a trio of nearby vessels and it begins spiraling in a chaotic circle before getting lucky and colliding with an enemy carrier. Whilst not destroyed outright, the vessel is surely crippled and out of this battle. Your forces are beginning to reach the expanding zones of anti-beam chaff left by these dying HLV's and have begun to split into kill teams of 3 and begin sowing as much confusion and damage as possible.

You see a grey Gundam pull out a long hafted beam spear and peel the side of an HLV like and apple, he get's a face full of Chaff for his trouble and the vessel unsteadily continues after him, before exploding. Illuminating his menacing sihlouette for a brief second.

YOU ARE NOW IN THE CENTER PORTION OF THE ENEMY FORMATION.

Going to have to go with this. Fire everything, you're bound to hit something. The Feds are going to be at a disadvantage purely because they might have to worry about friendly fire.

    >The Ackbar Slash was a space warfare tactical maneuver devised by Admiral Ackbar. It involved a fleet's ships forcing their way into the middle of an enemy formation. The desired result was that, with enemy gunners running a high risk of shooting their own forces, they would be hesitant to fire. The other side would have no such risk, and be able to cause higher damage to their enemy. If the enemy ships did choose to fire, the risk of them hitting each other still worked to the advantage of the attacking fleet. In addition, the enemy ships in this situation could usually bring no more than half of their weapons to bear, while nearly all of the weapons on the ships executing the Ackbar Slash could be used, as there would be enemies on both sides to target.

YOU DON'T HAVE LASER FEET. YOU HAVE HEAT-BLADE FEET IN MUCH THE SAME WAY THE CROSSBONES GUNDAM HAD HIDDEN BLADES IN HIS FEET.

In such a target rich environment you quickly give out the order to seek and destroy any targets of opportunity to all kill teams.
Together, you Zolomon and Jolyne start cutting a swathe through the still disrupted enemy units, probably still wondering why their beam weapons stopped working. Your conventional firearms have no such problems. And between the three of you, you manage to easily kill about 10 Gm pattern Mobile Suits apiece in short order.
You come across an enemy Pegasus and you order Zolomon to engage at close range whilst you strafe the command deck, with Jolyne covering you both. The flak is ferocious, not just from this vessel but another vessel attempting to cover it.
You have time to see it come afoul of a trio of Zaku Kais as you begin your attack run.
You dart inside the enemies flak envelope and send a heavy full burst of fire towards the command tower of the vessel, the heavy armour of the ship ablates much of it, but you see at least one of your shells pierce the enemy window, no doubt causing heavy collatoral damage. The emergency shutters fold down, which will force them to rely on their cameras. Several of which you almost certainly destroyed with that attack.

Suddenly one of the rear engines explodes. This is most likely because it had been severed clean off and had already drifted about 30 meters ways from the vessel.
Zolomon is still as lethal as ever it seems.

You pull out your Bazooka, unfolding it and firing in the same motion at the enemy bridge. It's unlikely to completely destroy it, but there should be some damage at the very least.
Flames and explosions blossom on the far side of where your attacking from as Zolomon scores horrific grooves alongside the enemy vessel.

It is now awash with flames, badly damaged, and listing sideways, and down. You suspect it will be unable to arrest it's own decent and most probably be destroyed when attempting re-entry.

You turn to Jolyne to see her finish off one GM Command wither Beam Naginta before precisely doubletapping another GM behind her through the cockpit area with her wrist mounted vulcan.

After pulling away from the enemy ship you see that it's sister ship is still under attack from the Friendly squad. As it does so you see a heavily armoured Gundam type Mobile Suit engage the friendlies. With a large arm mounted chaingun it shreds one, weathers a storm of 90mm fire from another and then has to dodge the underslung grenade. As a result it's shoulder mounted cannon shot goes wide, only ripping off it's targets arm, leaving it to tumble uncontrollably through space. Missile pods fitted into the armour fire a halo of high velocity ordinance around, forcing the last member of the squad to abort his flanking assault run.

You decide to take this moment to intervene.

The bullets of your Bullpup land on target, but against the heavy Gundamnium armour they do little but distract him. He turns to face you just as you attack him at full speed with a kick. Your foot slams into the large arm gun knocking it back. You extend the heat blade, but it fails to penetrate, knocking you back instead.
You sidestep another brace of missiles and lash out with your heat rod. You manage to grapple the shoulder cannon, and depress the shock capacitors. Lightning arcs across the mobile suit, but it seems for an instant that the suit isn't effected.

Then the external ammo hopper of the cannon explodes. You naturally lose your grip on the target, and he is spun downwards, only just managing to arrest his fall to land on the deck of the Pegasus. He swings his arm gatling around and you have to quickly dodge the salvo of fire.
Zolomon lands heavily besides the enemy Gundam. It has a moment to turn to face the new enemy before a great plume of fire obscures Zolomon and he's thown about as the front portside hangar arm explosively blows itself clear of the ship from Zolomons bisecting strike.

He got THAT trick, from Cima Girahou you note.

You take this opportunity to close the gap, you pull out your beam saber and prepare for close combat. The enemy attempts to block with the gatling arm, but your weapon slices through with only minimal resistance. He dashes to the side as the weapon explodes, momentarily obscuring him from you. You dodge the attack you know to be coming and the spot where his beam rifle would have fired becomes empty space.
As it is, the weapons attack scatters the mega-particles harmlessly, doing little more than pitting several areas of your Mobile Suit - more damage than it would have gotten WITHOUT the AB-Chaff ironically enough.
Your reply stroke slices the offending arm off, and you attempt finish the battle by switching hands and going for a backslice, but he manages to use his remaining hand to draw his own beam saber from a hip mounted area, and desperately parries you.
Head Vulcan fire pounds away at your armour, and push away to avoid further damage.

Damn, if you hadn't tried to be clever with switching your hands you could have finished this by drawing your second beam saber...

He jumps backwards, intending to widen the gap further. Then begins launching semi-guided muntions at you in a massive swarm.

You have to dart backwards to give yourself enough time to shoot them down with your head vulcans. By which point the enemy has disengaged.

Elaine seems to have finished dealing with any intruding enemies, whilst Zolomon finishes slicing and dicing the Carrier.
"What's the matter? Newtype?" he asks.

"No, I just got cocky." you reply.

Let's find and sink another carrier. The more we down, the less that the Feddies will be able to support their GM's and Gundams, and the better chances that the Zeon forces will have.
And next time, no flashy moves. That's more Zolomon, anyway.

By force them to the negotiation table, I'm referring to our ability to continue resistance for far longer, and at much higher cost, than the Federation initially believed possible from Zeon.
Essentially make continuation of the war so expensive, in terms of lives and material, that they choose to accept a cease-fire rather than continue fighting.

Also, by not encircling the Federation fleet, we leave them a path of escape, so that they will not fight to the death at this battle.

You tell Zolomon and Elaine that we have to concentrate on the enemy carriers, if we can kill enough Pegasus class vessels then we might stand a chance.
The element of suprise appears to have dissapated. Chaos is the order of the day, and whilst it appears that everything is still going well, the enemy has adapted to their inability to use their beam rifles and the like, and have apparently switched to close combat tactics. The enemy still outnumbers your team badly, if they get organised you're in all kinds of trouble. Anti-Beam Chaff or no Anti-Beam Chaff.

You spot another nearby Pegasus, you don't know whats happening in the outer rings of the Federation formation, and you don't have time to check, but you hope that Char and Dozle and taking advantage of this confusion.

You charge in, the flak is still disorganised, they don't appear to have spotted you. You prepare your Bazooka for a first strike against the command tower...

You only become aware of the grey Gundam in your formation a fraction before he fires his Hyper-Bazooka at you. You invert yourself at him, hoping that the shell might pass between your legs or hit somewhere less vital and fire back with your own Bazooka.

The odds of those two shots managing to collide and explode must have been astronomical.

    But nevertheless, that's what happened.
The blast is sufficient blow both him and you backwards, it also disrupts your formation, Jolyne and Zolomon instinctively bank to the sides to try and get a grip on what just happened. Your Mobile Suit is reporting medium damage to your armour due to the close blast proximity, and several breaches in the center torso. No internal damage from the looks of it luckily.

    Bandits back.

In essence then, try to neutralise his Bazooka, and then engage at close range. Right.

You grasp the controls and attempt to shorten the gap. You fire your head vulcans at him, trying to provoke a response more than anything else. He dodges under and fires a second rocket at you. At these close distances you have to use your Gundam Shield to block the attack, the impact is heavy, and you actually see the durable Gundamnium shield begin to fall apart. You lose sight of your opponent and fire your Bazooka forwards blindly. He's already moved out of position, coming at you close from your lower right. Purely on instinct you lash-out with your right leg, he dodges out of the way of your feeble guesture, but clearly wasn't expecting the heat blade that then extended out of it, catching him in the throat.

Even here the armour is gundamnium, and you doubt you do much damage, but it breaks his stride and forces him to dodge backwards even further. Giving you time to stabilise yourself.

Yeah but it'd look cooler and far more befitting a god damn GUNDAM if all three of you were required to fight it. Look at the constant examples of this in Gundam, Z Gundam, and ZZ Gundam. Amuro took out the Black Tristars, Camille.... well he killed a lot of 3 man squads full of aces (remember Yazan and his crew?) and Judau fought a Axis Zeon group very similar to the Black Tristars as well.

tl;dr It's more befitting a good narrative and would be instep with the universe.

Once again you charge forwards, in an attempt to keep the pressure on. He instead backs up away from you, darting to and fro.
The both of you aggressively dart about dodging each others bazooka fire at incredibly close range, whilst both Jolyne and Zolomon begin to get left behind as they try to keep up, but also deal with several more enemy GMs at the same time.

Eventually, your duel takes you to the Pegasus you had originally targeted in the first place. Your opponent no doubts hopes that the heavy flak fire of the Carrier will cause you problems.
Whilst the frontal missile and flak is too heavy you instead approach swiftly from the underside taking out a couple of light point defence turrets with your head vulcans.
You take the time to reload the Bazooka before replacing it with a Beam Saber, if it's a close range battle he want's it's a close range battle he'll get.

You're fairly sure that the enemy ship your hiding against will be relaying your position to him, so you can't assume you'll be able to take him by suprise, but if he tries to escape, then he risks being attacked from behind by you, possibly Joylne and Zolomon as well.

Starting with the Engine block you begin to methodically shear off the entire engineering section.
You're pretty sure somewhere around here is that sweetspot that takes out the fusion reactor too...

In any case, your actions as planned did manage to draw him out, as he assaults you from above, brandishing his beam spear like before. You spin away from the "spear head" although it's a close thing and the temperature in left head vulcan ammo hopper spikes. Much to your onboard computers alarm.

With your rotational momentum you're able to parry the second thrust, but take a solid blow to the head with the back of the spear. Your camera's jerk with the blow obscuring your vision for a second and you instinctively dodge to the side.

Alarm warnings start blaring from the left shoulder, telling you that the shoulder mounted verniers have taken damage, also the hydraulic pulse lines in the shoulder are registering dangerous heat levels as well. You vision has reset by this time however allowing you to take stock of the situation.

You've taken some damage in the shoulder, he's largely unharmed. Both your wingmen will be here shortly to finish the deal if this fight lasts even than long. You have a Beam Saber, he has a Beam Spear.
The temperature in your head vulcans is still dangerously high, you don't think they'll cook off, but firing them now might make it happen.

    YOUR ORDERS?

What indicates that the limiter is still on? You'd think 'disengage systems limiter' would be one of the first things we do on entering a big fight.

    >>13694957
If we can draw him around for a change, that would be good. Otherwise we just need to keep him occupied. We don't necessarily need to take him out, just neutralize him so he can't guard anything. That way the rest of our team can keep the feds as a whole off balance so they die faster.

I remember us having this same conversation the first time we hit Jaburo and tangoed with a Gundam. We got a number of posts into a close combat fight and there was a lot of shouting "TURN OFF THE LIMITER OR YOU WILL DIE". Apologised came back with "Oh, and btw your limiter has been off since the start of the fight". It's extremely likely that the limiter would be auto-off by now. This isn't a fight we entered thinking 'let's be cautious and hold back a lot, just in case'. I actually don't think we would have had the limiter on since before we sortied to aid the Luna II blockade.

I don't actually see anywhere that Apologized stated what suit we were in, so I have no idea if we're in the Zaku or not. It would seem kind of idiotic to me to be in a freakin' Zaku this late in the war, but whatever.

Anyway, Apologized is probably currently writing up something that is going to make the limiter release issue a moot point, so just wait it out guys.

You lash out with your heat rod and he nimbly dodges into your inside so you can't draw the lash towards him without intangling yourself. Before he dissapears out of your field of vision behind your shield you blow the connecting bolts and the shield falls away into space.

Man, and it'd served you so well too. I guess it's just some shields fates to get thrown away...

You dodge another thrust from the spear.

You jump back a short distance and then throw your beam saber at him as he attempts to follow up. He nimbly deflects it with the small beam head of the spear and sends it tumbling out to space. You take advantage of this moment and attack with your second beam saber. He pulls back a fraction before you could connect, but because of him holding the spear in one hand, momentum causes the end of it to jerk backwards towards you. You manage to slice this part of his weapon clean off. He tosses what's left of his weapon at you, you duck underneath and push forward eager to try and capitlise on the situation... when the ruined spear explodes.
The concussive force blows you forwards uncontrollably and you collide with him. The two of you roll in space in a clinch. His head vulcans spit at you as you roll, but his aim is off, scoring in glancing blows on your rear backpack. Your own vulcans are still cooling down.
Sodding laws of thermodynamics in a vaccum.

It's too close to use the heat rods and the power supply to the Beam Saber reset itself when you collided. You roll like this for a few more sickening seconds, neither of you having the upper hand until there's a great hollow "clonk" sound and the the G-3 spins away from you before stabilising.

Zolomon and his Gyan Kreiger takes position besides you. Jolyne does likewise.
"Sorry were late boss, we had to deal with the carrier first."
The explosion behind him punctuates the statement nicely.

The Zaku's were practically cannon-fodder by the end of the war being pushed out the door solely because they needed as many people as possible piloting mobile suits.

Doms were too large and bulky compared to the GM to outperform it. Only the Gelgoog and maybe Gyan were acceptable, and they had no way to manufacture enough of them or train enough pilots.

The bulk of Zeon's space forces by the time of Abowaku (I use Schodt's spelling, fuck off) were still in Zaku IIs because of the hardship of resources to produce enough Rick Doms. Gelgoogs were actually pretty rare except in the Home Fleet and in special forces units.

Besides, half the Zeon aces that died at Abowaku were using souped-up performance Zaku IIs.

It's not meant to be gloating. It's cold and it's dead serious. The invincibility of the gundam is a core federation belief. We just proved that the invincibility doesn't translate to anyone else. We are outnumbered, outgunned, and potentially doomed.

The three of you are about to fan out to encircle your opponent when suddenly there is a flash of blue, and your oppoent flys out of view, tumbling. The grey gundam takes the opportunity to make a break for it. But Instead of being rescued however, you get the impression that your opponent has just been roughly ejected from the fight.
The blue fireball bounces erratically before landing on a fragment of Pegasus carrier seperated in the earlier fighting.

It then resolves into a Gundam like shape, surrounded by a halo of blue flame. It appears to be a Pixy class Gundam, configured for space use.

Then another one lands alongside him.

a third one then spins into position behind you

another erratically takes position on your left.

Their movements are jerky, erratic, unpredictable and faintly inhumanlike. You get a great sense of disquiet eminating from the four mobile suits, and instinctiviely the three of you cover each others backs in preparation for the battle about to come.

Then the fifth Gundam appears. Wreathed in blue flame like all of the others this one appears of a different make, similar to the older [g] type ground gundams, it's movements appear different as well. They are tighter, more controlled, more normal, bereft of flourishes or extraneous movement in any way.
The five enemies surrounding you take their positions.

    "Well fuck." you comment.

Last Stand of Natchmaren? Well fuck, lets make it a big one. EVERYTHING DIES! Now is the time to go full newtype and make our name even more of a legend.

Seriously, 5 gundams for us? Trained by the only guy to survive us, and with him as backup(sort of). And they have EXAM systems. Man, we must have really pissed of Revil, or somebody high up the chain of command. Realistically, we can't escape them, so we have to either beat them, hope for somebody to show up as a big damn hero (personally, Dozle and the big zam would make my day, or the rest of Natchmaren to make the odds better) Or, last option, which we totally don't want, is to sacrifice someone for the possibility of escape, and high tail it back to whatever allied forces are nearby. Alternatively, one of our teammates either appears to get killed, or gets killed, and we go on a rampage kicking the shit out of everything in sight.

    >>I still think it needs pointing out that taking on the Nachtmaren Unit in open terrain is effectively suicide and has been known to be so for a while.

I've already been talking to the Project Leader, and he's aggreed to create a retrofit package (tentatively entitled the RX-78-XXBD model) and also allot us training time with the Marmot Unit CO, who is currently the only man to take on the Nachtmaren Unit and come out almost entirely unscathed, whilst outnumbered almost 5 to 1.

This is THE space battle. The federation tricked us into a stand up fight, with their fleets pretty much perfectly positioned. They want to do as much damage as fast as possible. One of the ideas i tossed around with a couple of other people here was a mass produced version of the Jupiter Ghost being used as a rapid attack unit, using its speed and I-field to speed into the enemy lines, launch its missiles, and then retreat before they get a chance to respond. The reason amuro got sent out in that is pretty much the same reason, they want to do MASSIVE DAMAGE! as fast as possible. If the rest of Natchmaren isn't coming to help us, i hope they are heading out to help him.

A point I'd like to make as a casual outside observer is that there doesn't seem to be much tension. Even with the weird alternate universe going on here it doesn't seem like Zeon has a chance of winning, or of even settling the war on good terms.

Yet the tone is one of invincible plot armor.

Part of what made Gundam so compelling is that the enemy faction would have a number of successes despite the efforts of the protagonists. Characters died in 0079 making the mood bittersweet. In 8th team the village is fucked over, and the Guntanks are destroyed. In 0083 despite their efforts the nuke is launched. In 0080 Bernie's efforts are meaningless and the infiltration crew wiped out. In Zeta Gundam the Titans gas a colony, commit all kinds of massacres, and manage to kill numerous pilots and ships. In ZZ Axis drops a fucking colony on Dublin and several cast members die.

Do you see where I'm going with this? There doesn't feel like there is any sort of risk or tension. Even though we should be shitting ourselves for the Pixies showing up, the odds are that very little will actually result from it, and the writing will delve into a gundam equivalent of Gurren Lagan rather than the military science fiction the series is known for.

Keep this in mind when you right your next unrelated quest thread Op.

    >>13696432
you didn't notice how many people proceeded to shit bricks when the pixies showed up? And about the war, we knew we were screwed since Odessa, when we got nuked by Gihren. The victory we will hopefully win, is merely that Zeon will survive, not become a puppet government like it did in the main timeline. We went to ridiculously insane lengths, and did the impossible( take down 4 pegasus carriers in like 15 min, considered impossible before we did it), and it didnt change anything.

There is always risk in what we do.
We go to great lengths to be prepared and to minimize random chance as a factor in all of our plans.

Also, from a strategic perspective, our actions have worsened Zeon's position in some areas.
We are unable to mass-produce the Gelgoog due to Gihren stealing the production data and the scientists involved in the project, Zeon is divided in a civil war even as the Federation is at Side 3's doorstep, and by destroying the Salamis and Magellan shipyards, we've forced the Federation to switch production to Pegasus Assault Carriers, nearly tripling their number compared to the canon timeline.

Even so, by careful planning and not falling to genre blindness, the survival of Zeon by the signing of a cease-fire and peace treaty is still possible.

Don't forget how we massively accelerated MS development, and inadvertently cause the Federation to do the exactly the same. Or how by raiding Jaburo and toasting the warship production line we produced a situation where the Feds have launched over 20 Pegasi, where in the canon timeline they had only made like seven by the time the Ablion launched in 0083. And we did kind of spark off the whole civil war thing. Go us!

We'll also have been directly responsible for Gihren creating advanced as fuck Mobile Suits with advanced psycomm systems, more crazy ass super-weapons instead of practical suit designs, and who knows what the fuck else. I wouldn't be surprised if the Quebley was invented half a decade sooner.

As long as Gihren exists, we have to keep fighting. Otherwise, the genocidal madness will be the legacy of the Zabis, one that ends up crushing Zeon under it's own weight.

In the end, the absolute BIGGEST thing we can do, is make sure that the peace talks go through, and preferably in a 6 mile deep bunker hidden underneath von braun, instead of in a spaceship. If we arrange for a decoy meeting at the original place, and have the actual one happen in neutral territory, then my good end plan becomes possible. There has to be some way we can get assigned for bodyguard duty on that, and it would be hilarious if Revil brings along bandit and amuro as his guards. If the Zeon-Federation war ends, then we can focus on killing Gihren, as part of a joint venture to ensure peace. I'm going to have to hunt through the earlier threads and find that plan again. I think a bunch of people liked it. Gihren would unwittingly act to ensure peaceful coexistence, by being the threat against which we can rally.

That means this is where Nimbus shows up to go "I am the best pilot for EXAM!" (in the BD-2, maybe BD-3. See above.) And then everyone dies, except for Yuu. Unfortunately for Marion Welch, there's still an EXAM Gyan somewhere on Earth.

I never understood why Zeon thought gassing a colony of helpless neutral civilians was in the best interest of zeon. Everyone but Garma deserves a military tribunal and imprisonment, if not death.

Zeon is to blame for the OYW. Forcing reparations however is meaningless. But forcing a moral guilt? That's entirely acceptable.

The notion of spacenoid supremacy and seperatist sentiment is what kept the Zeonic wars going for so long. Garma marrying an Earth Woman and renouncing the divine Newtype mandate would be in the best interest of all sides.

    >Likewise sure, Degwin may have assassinated Deikun

Actually, Gihren was behind THAT one too. Remember the teacup?

If she's REALLY unlucky, she'll be reborn as NT-004. Well, that's a lie. NT-004 is just a palatte swap of her.

Cima got blamed for the gassing i think, at some point i think it was said that Gihren was behind them, dont remember though. If it was said, it was in the same thread I put my plan for a good end.

Also, As far as everyone knows Degwin didn't have anything to do with Deikun's death. It was pretty obvious he would have to step down permanently though.

Meta-wise, I think it was part of the creator's on going attempts to see how far he can push the Zeonic horribleness before we actually turn and dislike them. Which we won't because Zeon is awesome, aside from the horrible warcrimes.

    >>13697174
It's probably a good thing that right now she's hanging with Mr. No Misfortune himself then? She could really use a CO who'd stick up for her in a bad spot.

You know, I was never so much into the gundam universe. I mean, I had watched MSG and Wing, but was never that deep into the lore until I came to Japan. I got into the 0083 gundam arcade game and the first card I received for playing was hers.

Of course, my ability to read anything in moonspeak at the time was minimal and I was absolutely flustered as to who she was. I did some researching and eventually discovered her back story, leading into learning about EXAM, and the rest of the background details I had never known.

    It was fucking depressing.

Not that it mattered to imaginary character, or anyone else real for that matter, but I wanted to do something about it. I played the hell out of that game. She would go on to be my highest ranking pilot, as I used her every time I played.

Pfft. Stick up for her? Heh, my original idea was that we would hear about her getting blamed for the warcrimes, personally hunt her down, and use the skull knight impression to make her explain what happened, since we trust her. Then, as she was obviously not to blame, we would go and hunt down the other guy, confront him(or just shoot him repeatedly, same difference) and Cima gets clear of wrong doing/ war crimes, while we gain a VERY loyal subordinate (that idea was that we would be more or less in control of Zeonic Military Forces at the end of the war.) But yeah, its good for her to have a commanding officer that won't use her as a scapegoat. That was really what fucked her up if i remember correctly, the endless betrayals of complete assholes. Even if we can't do anything about the first ones, we can do something about what happens to her at the end, specifically make sure she isn't just thrown away.

Found the original. It's about halfway down the page on zeonquest 84, right here(note that it was before i started using a name)

Actually, after the next fight, we might have a reason to go find Cima again. This episode ends with us fighting the EXAM Gundams, if we survive and escape, we might notice that they have the same effects as when we were trying to wake up Cima back on earth, namely the screaming ghosts and pain. If one of them isn't destroyed, then we would have reason to seek her out, to try and come up with a counter.

Can you check the GG Wiki to see if the Zeon Event tree has mysteriously gone missing? Because I think it's mysteriously gone missing, it looks like there's no proof it was ever there at all.
Also, I've been under the impression that Wolfgang Strauss and Andy Strauss are the same person. This is wrong, right?

I don't think we're going to be returning to earth in a combat capacity for a very VERY long time. I got the impression that after we lifted off the only Zeonic forces left on the surface were the men Garma led into the hills and whatever stragglers Gihren might have left in Africa. From this point on the war is going to be pretty much space only, final destination.

Weird. All I can think of is that someone was trying to update it and managed to delete it instead. That, or some terrible, terrible person purged it.

As far as I know, yes. Perhaps they are related though?

My reasoning was that if one of the EXAM Gundams escapes, and we had been screwed with by them earlier, David would probably be looking for answers, and its possible that he would remember that he had the same reaction to Cima when he rescued her. So, he would then go and ask her about EXAM, and try to come up with a counter. We wouldn't be there for fighting, but rather getting info on what the hell was that crazy shit that happened in the last fight? Alternatively we could make a comment about it to whoever we end up reporting to, and they might point us off in the right direction.
