I'm one of the playtesters of the latest attempt, and I can say that the system runs like a breeze. It helps that the GM is some sort of demigod of GMing, I guess. So far the group has adressed the problems of cliffracers growing a hivemind (which was a were-cliffracer, by the way), and burned down half of Suran. And paid for the repairs.

To understand the Great House structure of Morrowind, we first need to examine their tribal history. They started as a loose collection of religious pilgrims who followed the Prophet Veloth to their promised land, and settled the land as loose clans or families under the rule of patriarchs/matriarchs rather than as a unified people, probably due to the influence of the Gods they worshiped at the time. Because of their disunity, they made for easy conquest by the Nords, who exacted a regular tribute from the Dunmeri people. To combat this, the smaller families/tribes/clans began unifying into greater and greater families to resist the Nords. The system we have now was pretty much set by Nerevar's day, and was remarkably like the system the patricians of Rome used. There would be the immediate family, which was allied to a greater clan, which allied itself with a much greater and more powerful family, one of the Great Houses. It's possible for a sub-clan to switch from Great House to Great House, but this is extremely rare. Prior to the foundation of the Tribunal, each Great House almost ruled as a nation in its own right, and each had different rules and customs all overlaying the greater Dunmer common/Religious law they held in common.

In the days of Nerevar, there were six of these Great Houses. Indoril, Hlaalu, Dres, Redoran, Telvanni, and Dagoth. Dagoth was destroyed by the other five houses for their betrayal, their members all killed and their children adopted into other Houses. It's a common misconception that Lord Nerevar actually founded Great House Indoril; he did not. He was merely the latest in a line of leaders of that house.

The Houses are both political and family entities. It is possible to be adopted in a Great House with no blood relations, although it certainly helps, and the children of high-ranking members are expected to serve the house as well. However, in some houses there might no longer be any familial connections at all. For instance, the main line of Great House Telvanni died out ages ago, probably due to the constant backstabbing and upper-echelon internecine warfare, and Great House Telvanni currently exists solely as a political entity.

Great House Hlaalu: For most of its existence, this House only barely qualified as a Great House at all. They were far weaker politically and militarily than their two immediate neighbors, the Indoril and the Redoran, and were marginalized by them. The entrance of the Imperials into Morrowind changed that balance of power rather dramatically. Sensing the way the wind was blowing, the Hlaalu latched on to the Imperials as a new source of power, and are now the ascendant House within Morrowind. They want to break with some of the old traditions and Imperialize Morrowind's culture, because they see the immense benefits it can bring. However, they also secretly fund the Cammona Tong, a group of smugglers and anti-Imperial incendiaries, so as to hedge their bets. The day side consists of merchants, traders, workers, servicepeople, farmers, and petty nobility, and the night side has assassins, thugs, robbers, smugglers, and brutes. It's hard to tell where House Hlaalu ends and the Cammona Tong begins, although they've managed to keep this connection fairly secret outside of Morrowind proper. Their traditional allies were the Dres, and their enemies the Redoran and Indoril, although they've distanced themselves from House Dres considerably due to their ties with Imperial culture.

    >>13842453

Great House Indoril: This has long been the most powerful of the Great Houses, although its power has been waning ever since Morrowind was opened to the Imperials. When Vivec first signed the Armistice, the highest echelons of House Indoril committed ritual suicide rather than prostrate themselves to foreign rule, leaving the House scrambling to recover. Their traditional ties with the Temple and with the mythic figure Lord Indoril Nerevar has kept them strong, though, and they are currently the second or third most powerful House in Morrowind. They rule most of the southern half of Morrowind, and contribute most of the Temple's holy warriors, the Ordinators. Although Ordinator armor is called Indoril armor, the two are distinct entites and it is possible for non-Indorils to become Ordinators. Where the Temple is strong, the Indoril are strong, and the reverse holds true. They have no official holdings in Vvardenfel. Their traditional allies are the Dres and the Redoran, and their traditional enemies are the Hlaalu.

Great House Dres: This is a house of amoral slavers, and are probably the closest the Dunmer get to their reputation outside Morrowind as rapacious fiends given flesh. The great slave-puts of Tear always hunger for more, and they launch successful raids into Black Marsh to capture more Argonian slaves. They've refined slave-breaking to an art, and their slaves are in high-demand in Telvanni and Indoril lands. They are also the most traditional Dunmer behind the Ashlanders themselves, worshiping the Anticipations along with the Tribunal, and the wealthier Dres cling to the old tradition of maintaining private Ghostfences, something long since fallen out of vogue. They maintain massive plantations, and their fields feed Morrowind and the rest of the world besides. Their lands are extremely fertile, and Dres saltrice is not uncommon in foreign lands. Their traditional allies are the Telvanni, for the Hlaalu have fallen out of favor with them in recent years. They have no real enemies amongst the Dunmer, although they oppose the Imperials staunchly. Adding to their sinister reputation is their acceptance of races in their ports reviled by other thinking species, such as the Sload, who occasionally climb out of the waters near Tear to do business with the Dres slavers.

I liked morrowwinf (yeah... ill go with that...)

It was the first RPG i had ever played and it was ver atmospheric. Been the nowb as i was i did several things wrong.
    1) I never bothered to work out how to use the jumping spell as i never got to see the guy fall out of the sky, as far as i was concerned, one of the villagers had followed me and inexplicably died.
    2) That was ok though, i worked out that jumping was faster than running and by the time i found the volcano i could jump small buildings in a single bound.
    3) Being new to the game i let my cleptomania run wild, stealing from just about everyone i met.
    4) I eventually decided to join the purple romans bc they looked cool. I did 1 mission and afterwords, noticed i didnt have the cool uniform. Rather than killing one i decided to embark upon an epic quest to buy/steal the other peaces of the uniform. I went to just about every city... eventually returning triumphantly sporting my gear, (although some of it had different names) i returned to the officer who rewarded me for the mission with a duplicut of my first peace of gear... then i quit and did not really return to other RPG's.
    5) Also, jumping like a kangaroo while firing arrows at those flying things in the wastes was fun... ahh good times.

Great House Telvanni: This house is governed magocratically. Those with magic power may advance high in the ranks of Great House Telvanni, while those lacking in magical ability remain unimportant in House politics. Their great Wizard Lords are greatly feared Morrowind over, and have a just reputation for being atheistic, vicious, cruel, capricious, insane, evil, and, above all, powerful. They believe that might makes right and that power confers wisdom. Arguments are not settled through recourse to the law, but rather through magical duels to the death. If you won, your point was clearly the superior one. If you steal something and live, clearly you deserve what you stole. Despite this, many peasants actually enjoy life under the yoke of their wizard overlords. Because of their distance, they rarely bother to impose high taxes on the peasants, and are concerned with quiet and solitude above all else, and so enforce some semblance of law upon their underlings with extraordinary vigor. The Telvanni are a three-tiered society. At the bottom exist the slaves, fit only for servitude. They farm, mine, serve as house-servants and, when they are past their prime, as subjects of experimentation. Next up are the peasants, those Dunmer who display no magical power. They are, for the most part, safe from the wizards, who leave them alone for the most part. The Telvanni peasants are renowned as being the finest insect-breeders and perfumers in Morrowind. The Mages have already been discussed, and exist at the top of the Telvanni Hierarchy.

They are currently waxing in Morrowind politics, due to their rampant expansionism. Their only allies are the Dres, and they have extremely frosty relations with everyone else, almost to the point of enmity. They are detested by the Redoran and Indoril for being Godless, and detest them in turn for being fools. They are neutral to the Hlaalu, for the most part.

Great House Redoran: These warriors are now the weakest House in Morrowind politics, although they've been making up lost ground as of late. They are pious warriors of the Temple, and contribute many members to Vivec's Buoyant Armigers to defend the rest of Morrowind from the blighted ash-kin that spill forth from Red Mountain. In adition to their service on the interior, they serve as the first line of defense to the west; the Redorans are the traditional enemies of the Nords and always combat their border raids. They are traditionalistic but pragmatic, willing to accede to some Imperial customs while maintaining their traditional beliefs as well. They have been thoroughly trounced by the Hlaalu due to their connections with the Imperials, and have been steadily losing ground to both the Telvanni and the Hlaalu. They place great emphasis on personal honor and piety, and adhere to their duties with fanatical devotion.

They have strong ties with the Indoril, and oppose the Hlaalu and the Telvanni. They are resentful to the other Great Houses, for they feel, quite justifiably, that they bear the brunt of the assaults on Morrowind and the other Houses are content to let them waste away under continued attack.

Why did House Dres ally with House Hlaalu to end slavery in Morrowind? I was expecting Redoran and Hlaalu.

This. They stole a march on the others and 'abolished slavery' on their own terms by, say, freeing the slaves but giving them no support so they're forced to go back to working for their former owners to survive- rather than having the Imperials or an alliance of other noble houses demand they shut it down and pay compensation or transport people home.

There's none that I know of, mainly because it would take an enormous amount of effort that doesn't involve rape or titties. The lore buffs mostly gave up on Oblivion entirely and are content to trick Morrowind out for the rest of forever. There were a few efforts here and there, but not much ever came of it, because it'd really be a Total Conversion mod in all but name.

True. Although really, I don't think that it could ever be properly done in the Gamebryo engine. It would require too much space, and so many NPCs walking around at the same time would probably crash the game. I could see it being done with the Eclipse engine, the Anvil/Scimitar engine, or maybe even the Unreal engine, but Gamebryo limits the possibilities by quite a bit.

It is possible. Minecraft has already proven that you can have a game world eight times the size of Earth without serious difficulty. Take that kind of procedural terrain generation, use it once to create a huge country, then manually edit it to include locations that match the lore and eliminate mindfuck terrain. With erosion software and a sensible draw distance - which could be justified in-game as being the fog from the massive rainforest - and you'd have a convincing, massive and relatively easy to make game environment.

A similar method could be used to create NPCs. Rather than having every character have a name and an irrelevant backstory, the vast majority of NPCs could be procedurally generated from a pre-existing pool of physical and personal traits. For companion, plot and sidequest characters, along with some merchants, you could set concrete traits, but it wouldn't be needed for 99% of the characters in the game.

    >>13843330

You actually just described the method they used to create the Oblivion landmass. They used a bunch of algorithms to generate the land, forests, hills, and the like randomly, and then went back and tweaked and edited it.

I, uh, honestly don't know why they just didn't leave Cyrodiil as a jungle in the first place. It would have been pretty easy to. I guess Todd Howard was just way too into LotR, I guess.

Now that I think about it, I don't really know why it took them so long to produce Oblivion. I heard some stuff about starting it before the 360 was actually released, so they had to just guess what features they could or couldn't use, and then basically had to re-code everything in like 6 months. I can't vouch for its accuracy, though.

I think Oblivion actually had something of a short production cycle; I'm going from memory so be kind, but I think from the "big exclusive TES IV" coverage in PC gamer to release was about ten months; that said, I think the concept time / engine creation did take a while, which is why we didn't see a new TES game for quite some time after Bloodmoon.

But basically, they had nothing until the engine and tools were created, then more or less banged it out. They had a laundry list of features they apparently wanted in, the two big ones being physics and NPC schedules, and hey lookie, they really fucked those up.

I mean, NPC schedules, you used to hear these hilarious dev stories about how they had several NPC-defining attributes like desire or aggressiveness, and did little experiments like making farmers want each others' tools. Most of these resulted in Murder and towns boiling in chaos, but given what we see in Oblivion it actually sounds preferable.

Daggerfall's generic quests were pretty generic, but at least set up amusingly.

Mages guild ones included gems like 'I need a piece of X but X turns to after much searching to be a mummy'. Some nice 'guard this shit/person' were there too, with the option of taking the item for yourself if it was good and you were ok with blowing the quest. You could always get another.

I just want a game that replicates the HUGE feel of daggerfall's accurately sized settlements, from lone farmsteads and coaching inn villages to capital cities.

even if it was just a single province, or just a small area, I want places that feel like they should in size. After all, the average medieval city was less than a mile across, walled, and had a couple of thousand people in it. Thats not too much to ask is it? Even if you don't see that many people... (servants, children, people working indoors spinning and carding wool cloth and so on).

Sotha Sil actually played a fairly important role in the background lore. He was the one who conceived the plan that would allow the Tribunal to ascend to Godhood and, while he didn't stab Nerevar in the back, he went along with the plan. He also bound the Daedric Princes by a compact that forced them to remain within Oblivion unless summoned on special holy days by a certain sect of witches. Sotha Sil is why Mehrunes Dagon doesn't come bursting into Mundus with an army every fortnight.

As to your other question, there's not a whole lot we know about Umbra. The sword was forged by a mad witch, and probably contains the soul of a powerful Daedric entity, although not quite a full-fledged Prince.

Mehrunes Dagon is basically an idiot, and Mankar Camoran's plans went far beyond just summoning Mehrunes Dagon. He actually won even after dying, even if he didn't get to savor his victory. Allow me to explain:

Camoran was a High Elf who held to the theory that the Mundus is an inherently corrupt version of the divine dream-state that existed before. His goal was to return reality to the first brush of creation, before the rules and laws of physics were set in stone and the Aedra regressed into the Earth Bones. To do this, he'd been manipulating events for decades, slowly weakening the fabric of reality that held everything together. Mehrunes Dagon was just the latest example of that. By killing off the Septim line he unbound Akatosh/Anuiel from his pact and causing the Dragonfires to sputter out, thereby removing one of the last things keeping Akatosh/Anuiel from completing the cycle of death and rebirth.

Mankar Camoran set the stage for Skyrim. He hoped that by unbinding Akatosh, reality would be eaten and the elves would become Divine, as they were in the Mythic Dawn. Mankar Camoran summoned Anuiel. Mankar Camoran sped up the cycle of worlds, all to touch the exhilarating Divine. Mankar Camoran won, is what I'm saying, and Mehrunes Dagon was just another two-bit actor in his massive scheme.

We don't really know. Obviously it's not all of them, but we do know that the High Elves broke free from the Empire during or immediately after the Oblivion Crisis and started conquering shit again right away, so it could be anywhere from a minority to well over half.

Funny story, actually. Every game since Daggerfall was supposed to have been set in Summerset. After Daggerfall, all the rumors pointed to TES III being set in Summerset. After Morrowind, TES IV was supposed to be set in Summerset. After Oblivion, Skyrim was supposed to be set in Summerset. It being set in Summerset is basically Bethesda's long-running troll of the community. There will never be a game set in Summerset.

He was just the first Earthbone. I can't remember exactly right now, but I think he was the Earthbone that gave all living things their set shapes, instead of morphing and twisting about with no given forms. I think that the Bosmer sort of ritually undu Yffre's Earthbone when they unleash the Wild Hunt, allowing them to sweep through the forest, killing all invaders. It's a bit of a last-resort thing, though, given that they can never resume their former forms again.

Don't quote me on this, because I'm not up to scratch on Bosmer lore, but I'll give you the best answer I can. I think it all goes back to Yffre. Remember, their forms were never set, and the Bosmer hold that their divine ancestors often settled last in the forms of plants in Valenwood. If they damaged the forest or ate anything that grows there, they might accidentally eat the spiritual forms of their honored ancestors.

First, let's clear up some terminology. Numidium = Anumidium = Walks-like-Brass = Big Stompy Magic Robot. All can be used interchangeably. Now that that's out of the way, let's begin.

Numidium first started as Kagrenac's hidden plan to ascend. He built the structure around Lorkhan's Heart, and when he struck the heart all Dwemer everywhere merged to become the divine, gleaming skin of Numidium. In theory, the Dwemer would have apotheosized and achieved something like-CHIM but not-CHIM as a group, collective consciousness, and would have ritually unmade reality to return all to the Mythic Dawn. However, something went wrong. We don't know why exactly, but for some reason the Heart of Lorkhan didn't power it up.

Numidium lay dormant in Red Mountain for centuries, until Tiber Septim came knocking on Morrowind's door. He and his generals dreaded invading, because they knew it would be a long, slogged-out guerrilla war that would basically become the Empire's 'Nam. Vivec, for his part, wasn't too keen on being invaded. So, in return for giving up Numidium (which was powerless and useless anyways) to Tiber Septim, Tiber agreed to not invade Morrowind and, furthermore, not really rule Morrowind either.

    More forthcoming.

Now, Tiber realized when the Dunmer delivered his shiny, non-functional robot that he basically got the raw end of the deal, at least until he figured out how to power Numidium up. He used the heart of the Imperial Battlemage, Zurin Arctus, to create the Mantella and power the Numidium. At least, that's what they said. It's more likely that they used the heart of King Wulfharth of Skyrim to power up Numidium, which makes sense because King Wulfarth was a Shezzarine, an incarnation of Lorkhan. It wouldn't have worked with any heart but the Heart of the World, and Wulfharth's was close enough. Tiber uses the Numidium as a walking weapon of war, and conquers the rest of Tamriel with it, including Summerset Isle, which had never been invaded before.

Years passed, Tiber died, and Numidium and the Mantella disappeared. However, it was never destroyed, which is what allowed Numidium to be the Tower Walks-Like-Brass, because it housed the Heart of the World, albeit in a different form. The events of the Daggerfall and the Warp in the West returned the Mantella to the Underking, removing it permanently from the world and severing the Tower from its Key and Numidium from its Heart. Now we don't really know where it is. It might have been destroyed by itself, it might have gone to some other state of existence, we don't know.

Basically, Numidium was the Dwemer Oversoul and a Tower all at the same time, and it could be argued that it was an Avatar of Lorkhan as well, since it held his heart.

I'll do them in order, then.

Well, for reasons that don't matter in the least but may or may not also include burning down half of Suran with a firebomb, we (that is to say, our party: Wrath the Nord Spearman, specializing in being loud, fat, and tanky; Malloc the Breton Spellsword, specializing in conjouring katanas and trapping souls, he also enjoys long periods of enchanting; Miner, AKA the Crotch Destroyer, wielder of destruction and daggers; and finally Pana, Argonian Alchemist/martial artist/crossbowlizard (that's me)) had aquired a debt; as such, we headed out to check why the cliffracers were so freaking organized (we were jumped by six on the way over, and when we killed all of them, the last survivor flew off and came back with another nine) and to collect the reward for fixing this shit.
So we head out over the ashlands, hide from some more cliffracers, and eventually find a large crater-ish clearing thing, with a shack in the centre. As we approached, cliffracers came and circled the shack.

After we approached closer, a fucking huge and semi-clothed cliffracer thing revealed itself from behind the cabin.
Needless to say, everyone was taken aback. Just a little.

Yeah, that's another point. It's debated, but most people agree that Zurin Arctus was one and the same as Wulfharth, who because of mantling was really just Lorkhan anyways. Makes it a bit weird when you realize that Septim mantled Lorkhan and was basically Lorkhan anyways too. Double-Lorkhan tagteam: the elves never stood a chance.

Anyways, Walks-like-Brass is neither good or evil. All it did was serve as another anchor that kept the Mundus affixed to its axis and the Earthbones in place, which is a bit ironic considering its original intent. I've often speculated that the Heart of Lorkhan itself sort of chose not to power Anumidium under the direction of the Dwemer, almost as though Lorkhan new through the Heart that it would result in the destruction of all he had worked for. That's pure speculation on my part, mind, but I think it makes a lot of sense.

From what I've read, native dunmer males literally gargle pebbles to give them a deep, raspy, masculine voice. Non-natives don't practice this, which is why everyone can identify you as an outlander in right off the bat, even if you're playing a dunmer yourself. (Yeah, there's the fact that your character still makes the same raspy grunts when he's getting his ass kicked just the same as any other dunmer in the game, but I just accept this as game limitations.)

If I recall correctly (which is unlikely) Pana, the party's secondary tank (despite having exactly no armour but a high dodge) was closest, and attempted to communicate with the large cliffracer intelligently.
This sort of worked, as the huge cliffracer turned into a very old, diseased, naked, Bosmer woman.
    Picture related for EVERYONE'S face.
After some 'conversation' (which consisted of "YOU" and "Me what?" "YOOOOOOOOOOOU" "WHAT WHAT DO YOU WANT", to tl;dr it) Pana convinced were-racer to try a cure disease. Understandably, this didn't work, and the next potion applied was the best potion that Pana could actually make, a really long duration paralyzation potion.

It gets hit, and herps up. None of the other cliffracers did anything, and the party commenced hitting it as hard as they could.

Then an Old Bone of the earth rose up before the simulacrum of the netchiman's wife and said, 'If you are to be born a ruling king of the world you must confuse it with new words. Set me into pondering.'

'Very well,' Vivec said, 'Let me talk to you of the world, which I share with mystery and love. Who is her capital? Have you taken the scenic route of her cameo? I have-- lightly, in secret, missing candles because they're on the untrue side, and run my hand along the edge of a shadow made from one hundred and three divisions of warmth, and left no proof.'

At this the Old Bone folded unto itself twenty times until it became akin to milk, which Vivec drank, becoming a ruling king of the world.

"Walk Like Him Until He Walks Like You."

Basically, if you act like a god, speak like a god, and rally like a god, eventually people cease to distinguish between you and the god. Let's take a simple analogy. Let's say that you don the name "Alpharius", and you come into Morrowind threads writing absurd essays on Elder Scrolls lore. Would anyone be able to distinguish you from me? Probably not. If you pulled it off really well, no-one would be able to tell us apart. Elder Scrolls Metaphysics then means that, if you act like me, talk like me, write like me, and walk like me, you become me, both mythically and really.

You and I become indistinguishable, so we become the same entity. Tiber Septim acts like Lorkhan, so he becomes Lorkhan.

The potion in question lasted for three rounds, in which the party did over two hundred damage to it.
To put that in proportion, all our character's hitpoints rolled together is less than that.
After innefectual beating, it wakes up and starts attacking us, but through not-horrible rolls for once and spending many many Luck points, we didn't get decapitated by its giant tailblade-after another two or so rounds, we had done approximately 250 damage to it, and it finally keeled over and turned back into ugly naked foetid Bosmer lady, the only thing of value on her being a ring with some sort of enchantment.
The cliffracers left, and we apparently stopped that shit right there.

It's mostly lies and propaganda, actually, written in-game by Vivec as a Bible, written by the devs under the influence of Revelations, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Bagavad Ghita, etc. There are hidden messages for whoever can find them:
"If we take the numbers from sermon 29, use them to take out words from appropriate sermons and put them together, we will get a secret message:

"He was not born a god. His destiny did not lead him to this crime. He chose this path of his own free will. He stole the godhood and murdered the Hortator. Vivec wrote this."

Also, if we take the first letters of all the paragraphs of sermon 36 with the exception of the last one, we will get another secret message:

What happened is that time in the Mundus is weird. As near as I can tell, when Vivec kill Nerevar to ascend, and became a God, he had then always, since the beginning of existence, been a God. So, while it happened that Vehk killed Nerevar, in the current line of "causality", and I use that term loosely, because Akatosh is no good at keeping time consistent, Vehk was a God since the beginning and did not kill Nerevar.

Of course, that assumes that he's telling the truth. Don't bring up the water-face, by the way, because we only know that Vivec's not allowed to tell lies while wearing the water-face because Vivec told us. He's pretty much the textbook definition of an unreliable narrator. I'm not saying we should cast everything he says out of hand, mind, but rather that we should be mindful of his proclivities for deception, and use less absolute wording when describing anything around him. Unless that wording is, "He's an absolute dick."

Well, this escapade came before the Cliffracer debacle. The party was lacking Wrath at the time, and bumming around Balmora, finding their feet.

Until the girly scream from the Dunmer Siltstrider attendant brought the fact two zombies were dragging an Argonian out of the gate.
After target practice with a bow (Ha ha, silly zombies. I can walk on my hands faster than you)and getting introduced to a fellow PC named Hannibal (You there, in the back. Shh.) who was a mage of some sort (I MEAN IT) and set about looting the pauper's corpse merrily, we went to the Balmora Mage's Guild. Apparently a whole bunch of undead had appeared in the area-we knew about this before the zombies popped up-and there was a nice juicy bounty on the necromancer responsible.

Muatra is apparently Vivec's unique, ahem, "weapon." Like I said, I don't know how much of it is literal or not, but there's a pretty good chance that it's just his pet name for his penis. While being a literal spear at the same time. The point being, you can't take it from Vivec, because it's part of him. Sort of.

Hnnng, so many typos and grammatical failures. Note to self: Proofread twice.

After we sorted out exactly how much this necromancer's ass was worth, Miner, Crotch Destroyer, got into an insult argument with Hannibal, Totallynotanecromancer Mageguy. This was entertaining-very much so-and after Miner botched a deathstar bolt at Hannibal, everyone dragged themselves back to the Eight Plates, where they were staying. Now, in the Eight Plates, there is this one very, very drunk Altmer, going by the name of Hyarenarenquar (I just called him Hymencar) who claimed to be a counjourer, offhandedly. So we ended up doing a spot of planning, and decided to bring the super-drunk Altmer along.

Don't ask me why, but it seemed a good idea at the time.

Picture related could probably be an approximation of how Hymencar imagined himself, as we later found him hitting on a loli Dunmer.

And also Molag Bal's penis, don't forget. I guess I could see if anyone's modded it in. Maybe put it on Vivec so you can loot it when he dies. New spears are always good, at any rate. Hell, maybe I could mod it in. No good at modeling or texturing, though, so I'd have to stick with something like the base Ebony Spear, which would be kind of lame.

Hymencnenen is light enough for Pana (who is the least encumbered, having no armour whatsoever) to haul around, and on the way to the supposed Necromancer hideout, we come across a dead campfire and a dead guy, with a note mentioning Hannibal and him knowing 'the arts', if I recall correctly. Now, Pana started out as an alchemist, got massively in debt, and then took up banditry (that's yet another story for another time), and then ended up seeing one of the few other Argonians in the whole of Vvardenfell clubbed and half eaten by zombies.

So he doesn't like Necromancers very much.

He was already in a generally bad mood, so this didn't help. The rest of the party were basically 'Eh.' towards Necromancy-Miner was going to go down that route anyway, and Malloc is some sort of ambiguous evil alignment so he didn't give a single fuck.

After using some healing magic on Hymirengen to fast-forward his alcohol poisoning into 'hangover' stages, the now conscious drunk guy and us three killed some zombies and entered the cave, in which we killed some (I FUCKING HATE SPEARMEN) skeletons and a Ghoul (<GM> You all feel like searching the Ghoul vigourously, without wearing any gloves.), somehow without catching any ash-rabies or whatever. It should also be noted that we hadn't even seen Hymencar before, other than the loli seduction incident (SHE WAS AT LEAST 16 PHYSICALLY, the GM cries). We didn't even know his name until after this whole thing, we just picked his ass up and dragged him out into battle, telling him that the zombies took his stuff (protip: they didn't).He was 'guy' or 'altmer guy' for most of the adventure. Anyway:

We enter the large, circular room which is currently inhabited by an impressive person in silver-edged robes.
    And bling, lots of bling.
He's like 'sup homedogs' and we end up conversing some. He claims to have been wronged by the Mage's guild-Andil and Galbedier specifically(he claimed to have a special spell for them, Worm-Slave-Malloc expressed interest at this)-and says 'if you leave I'll give you money', basically. Everyone's okay with this.
    Except Pana.
So after more banter, and Hymencar burping a few times, Pana tosses back an Invisibility potion.
Cue chaos. Boris the Blingomancer pulls up like three different shield spells, but since Pana's fast enough to get the first action, he runs up beside him and casts Recall.

It begins toward the end of Daggerfall, really picks up in Redguard and Morrowind, and trickles off a bit in Oblivion only to return full force in Knights of the Nine and The Shivering Isles. Daggerfall is more terrestrial, but no less enjoyable for it. It's more about earthly politics than cosmology, but it still has quite a bit of it later on in the game. It's really mainly expanded in Morrowind, though.

    The Scarcity of Elven Writings

Much of the blame for this can be laid on the Alessian Order, which was tireless in ferreting out and destroying Elven writings during its long dominance. Today, we are left with the beautiful heresies of the Anuad, surviving only by virtue of their popularity and proliferation, and perhaps a dozen more works of lesser reknown. This, though, does not explain fully the scarcity of Elven letters. We might turn to Dylxexes, an early human scholar, for another answer. After studying the financial records of the Direnni Hegemony, a High Elven merchant family that exploited the human kingdoms of its day, he had this to say: "These [records] may help to explain why so much of Aldmeri literature is forbidden, scorned, or untranslated, for I have seen [their] like before. The Direnni were either exceedingly paranoid or their system of economy so inextricably linked with dangerous theosophist numeral-symbolism that much of what is recorded here requires... sorcerous precautions on the part of the reader. [Hidden magic] is everywhere incorporated in their writings... signs and preternatural runes and [correspondences]... in expenditure columns, even, or margins [that] can be fatal to the uninitiated. Crucial pages were covered with the spittle of the previous translator, who had babbled idiotically over the text for days before catching fire."

    The Great Apes of Valenwood

The Great Apes, or Imga, are native beastfolk of Valenwood. They see the High Elves as their lords and masters, and as a portrait of an ideal, civilized society. Great Apes go to desperate measures to emulate the High Elves: they wear capes, practice with the dueling sword, and attempt to speak with perfect enunciation and courtly manners despite their gravelly, baritone voices. Each Imga bears some kind of title, be it Baron, Duke, Earl, or the like, which they use when addressing the members of the Thalmor (needless to say, there are no landowning Great Apes). More extreme Great Apes shave their bodies and powder their skin white to seem more like the High Elves. They often cut themselves in the process, creating the truly pathetic picture of a naked white Ape, skin dotted pink with blood, strutting around the trading posts of Valenwood with mock nobility. The Imga feel that humans are beneath them as lesser beastfolk, and pretend to find their smell exceedingly offensive - a Great Ape holds a perfumed corner of his cape to his nose when Men are around.

So Pana ends up at his mark point with a confused and angry Necromancer that could stand in the middle of the sun without harm due to the sheer volume of shielding he has.

His mark point being the Mage's Guild.

Pana's reasoning? The number of skilled and professional mages in here could just slap this guy's shit no problem.

There was all of one mage in the downstairs area, licking the transporter portal. Pana was like 'well fuck' and bolts up the stairs, getting hit duee to lightning necromancer, takes 20 damage(which then proceeds to set his clothing on fire) from one spell-then passes Ranis and Galbedier, informing them of necromancers in your guild, killing your dude, when Necromancer Blingthing murders his way through the corridor and sees them. Andil is like IT'S ON NOW BITCH and shields up, while Galbedier uses tiny Bosmer legs to get at her scroll closet. Pana had already tried throwing knives at him, and it had exactly zero effect, so he follows, sounds of giant mage fight echoing up the corridor.

Necroblinger lightnings Galbedier, who squeals like a bitch.
Pana D:ses and throws one of his regular Poison potions at him, with 0% effect.
Portal-Lickin' Good the Mage charges up the passage and starts to cast something, but fizzles gloriously.
Blingomancer shoots a fireball into Galbedier, catching Pana in the blast. Galbedier eats the full damage, and gets taken out of the fight.

You still here, Alpharius? I came upon an idea.

The Nu-Hatta stuff seems to imply that the Towers are Aldmeri attempts to de-create the Mundus by channeling creatia from the Aetherius. So I was thinking, why then would the destruction of the towers be such big damn deals? They only strengthen the Mundus by being destroyed. Then I thought, the towers aren't actually destroyed in two of the three games. The stones are. I'm thinking, the stones, the keys to the towers are what keep them from channeling creatia and destroying the Mundus. Agree?

So, out of usable scrolls, potions being useless, and knives being even MORE useless, he decides to punch the guy out.

Now, this is LESS retarded than it seems, as the Hand-To-Hand system has been entirely overhauled and fixed so that it's not pants-on-head retarded, and that's his main weapon.
So Pana charges into the man throwing lasers out of his fingers and shoves him over, and commences attempting to punch through fifty two different shields.
    One damage.
    Necromancer stands.
Portalickin' Good comes up and bitch-slaps the guy with a spell, doing ten damage.
Pana continues punching Blingthing. Three damage.
PG casts again, doing ten more damage and FINALLY killing this bitch.

Galbedier is hit with a Restore Health scroll until she casts it properly, and another's grabbed, then Pana checks downstairs-where Ranis is dead on the floor (and, suprisingly, not exploded over every inch of the room).

So, other than Pana going all emo and almost being captured as a slave after that (But that's another story), the now-sober Hymenqueque introduces himself, and points out that he could have summoned a Daedroth.

I played Oblivion first, hated the generic fantasy setting of TES at first and the weaboo japachinean shit everywhere... then got a little bit deeper into the lore, realized it is a great setting with a great history even if it gets a little LOTRy at points (which while I don't say is BAD it is definitely overdone)...
Anyway love Oblivion now, one of my favorite games of all time and I frequenty return to it to experience it from scratch again.

I never played Morrowind more than a few hours. I like it, the setting's nice, the plot seems good I guess, but... it's just so fucking long. Convince me to play it all the way through please cause I want to!

Download a mod for better combat and a mod for a better journal. Also, Morrowind is anything except a generic fantasy setting. Try reading the in-game books, they really give you a feel for the setting. And seriously, generic? Have you even been reading this thread?

If you don't play through the main quest, all most up to the end, you'll never get your chance to meet Tiber Septim.

I didn't know Uriel Septim VII showed up in Morrowind. Only at the Vivec Informants quest.

In Morrowind, just before the main quest takes it's turn into the lands inside the Ghostfence, there's a chance to meet Tiber Septim... if you know where to look.

How come I always have to be the one to post these when someone asks about TES3 mods? Oh well, I suppose it's nice to be helpful.

Okay... well I don't like modding, honestly, Morrowind just seems so huge to me. And yes, I read the books, both in Morrowind and Oblivion, which helped expand my views on the world, I have to say Oblivion still comes off a LITTLE generic to me (not so much "this is all just lame" and more just cliche in terms of fantasy tropes) and Morrowind comes off a little TRYING REALLY HARD NOT TO BE GENERIC SO ARCHITECTURE IS ARABIC AND MONSTERS ARE INSECTOID AND ALIEN!
...That and TES really annoys me with tiger people and lizard people and a dozen elves, but that's all fantasy these days, I guess that's what I meant by generic, Black Elves, White Elves, Gold Elves, and pretty much any mixture of "human" and "animal" you want to mix. That's all I really meant about generic.

BECAUSE... Lore wise the game is really unique in a lot of ways and SO fucking in depth I'm only just starting to scratch the surface through TES Wiki. So that being said, I'll let you guys pick my first full playthrough character in Morrowind, anything but a dedicated caster. Pick my guild, my house, any affiliations (Temple, Imperial Cult, etc) and I'll play it. I don't have any biases really in TES world but NO KHAJIT OR ARGONIANS, those are the only rules.

Oh and bonus, say your reasons for what you pick, like Orcs because they're actually deformed Mer folk or something like that. Like I said, you guys pick it and I'll play it.
    But seriously no furries.

Basically, once you've completed "Hortator and Neraverine" an old imperial man named Wulf appears at the Ghostgate, in the Tower of Dusk. Once you enter the tower and leave it again, he'll disappear. While he's there, no one else notices him... but if you talk with him he'll ask you to carry a lucky coin up the mountain.

Morrowind really seems to me more like it's taking fantasy and running with it. Why have Orcs as the always unplayable evil race? Why include goblins and trolls everywhere? Why must the architecture be derived from Europe? It doesn't seem like Morrowind is a rebellion against the genre so much as trying to take the base and build it into something new.

Also, the architecture is only Arabic in a few places. There Roman, Renaissance, Japanese, almost any influence you can think of.

And all the races were decided in Arena and Daggerfall, which were really kind of generic.

Go to imperial-library.info and bethesda's lore forum in addition to using the wikis.

In fairness, they do lose out on boots and full helms in Morrowind.

I like Argonians, personally, but after The Real Barenziah Khajit just weird me out.

Also... Orsimer [them Orcs], your choice of stealth or combat classes. If you go stealth you'll probably want The Lady [awesome for your health and will patch up your otherwise shitty Personality] or Thief [If Thief is half as good as it is in Oblivion - I never used it in Morrowind]. Join the appropriate Great House [Hlaalu is generally the stealth house, Redoran for combat] and whichever you want of the two major religious groups, and play the MQ and whatever else grabs your interest.

It's called furryphobic. People so afraid of being classified into "furry" that they won't even play beast people in video games. In other words, people so stupid that they don't realize by their actions they let furries control their lives.
    >> Anonymous 02/10/11(Thu)06:55 No.13849252
To be fair, Daggerfall did have official unofficial furry fanfics an shit...

Thief isn't as good in Morrowind as it is in Oblivion. In Morrowind the Thief sign gives you a 10pt Sanctuary effect (basically, you get 10% added to your dodge chance). If you're a high agility character, it can be good... but you'd be better off taking the Lover which gives you a 25 point Fortify Agility effect AND a paralysis power for that.
