So, I was reading Eclipse Phase earlier, and it seems to be like what this game needs is magical girls.

I know /tg/ has done it with Planescape, why not here? Replace the magic with science and maybe set it up like Sailor Moon, with a Mercury-tan and a Venus-tan and everything.

Or maybe Firewall-tan, Consortium-tan, Morningstar-tan, etc. Hypercorps and organizations like Ozma-tan can be their sisters and together they can fight Ti-tans!

    This idea cannot go wrong.

I call dibbs on playing Ultimate-tan! She's the strongest!

Oh, oh, or maybe Gatekeeper-tan, with her never-ending love for adventure! Together with Terragenesis-tan(who loves animals), her twin sister Pathfinder-tan, and their grouchy older sister Gonin-tan, they're always on the move!

You'd have a problem, though. TITAN-tan and the TI-tans would constantly get mixed up. But maybe that'd lead to wacky comedy!

The sad part is that you could easily run this, even in the EP system. It's possible to attach flight systems to morphs(magical girls have to fly), there are modifications to allow you to change appearance on the go(magical girls need transformation sequences) and in the goofy-ass future you can probably find some way to make a Plasma Cannon look like a wand or staff.

It just feels like someone trying to jam their anime fetish into the Eclipse Phase setting. This is as stupid as that "Planescape Magical Girls" thing, which we thankfully haven't heard about for a while. EP isn't necessarily horror. Yes, it has a SAN-like mechanic in lucidity, but you could jam your heroes through a Pandora Gate and they could have space opera-like adventures exploring brave new worlds and contacting interesting new species.

Like Star Trek without the boring spaceships and, knowing the average /tg/ player, with all the alien boning.

But seriously, the horror isn't a necessary part. You can also play it as cyberpunky, or even heroic.

Shit, the entire game could even be set within a simulspace with infomorphs as actual magical girls.

EP isn't really anime. There's some anime(Ghost in the Shit and similar bad stuff) which tries to incorporate cyberpunky elements, but at its heart EP is a cyberpunk game with an interplanetary/interstellar scope that can be converted into just about any mood.

    >>13955002

That'd be pretty simple. There's an extra limbs mod and I think either Sunwards or Gatecrashers has a morph that's basically centaur-shaped.

The players are exhumans who believe the pony shape to be the ultimate crux of perfection.

So what? BESM sells itself as being an "anime roleplaying game," but I've found it to work quite well for high-future sci-fi(because it lets people stat up all sorts of crazy gadgets and weapons instead of all having to choose from the same unimaginative list) or high-fantasy where statting up their own spells is, again, easier than everyone just picking off some dork's boring list of Fireball and Fireball MkII.

Just because the creators INTENDED it to be a horror game, doesn't mean that's all you can run with it. Especially not in a setting as expansive as EP.

You can be a group of infomorphs in robot bodies fighting for AI rights and independence.

You can be Jovian conservatives in unmodified human bodies fighting against the "frankenfreaks" with their mind editing, memory uploads and designer bodies.

You could be a group of opportunist Ultimate mercs, working for the highest bidder.

You could be Firewall or Ozma agents getting dumped into the worst hellholes in the galaxy, happy to escape with your minds intact as you race just ahead of the bow wave of TITAN or alien machinery trying to rip you apart and harvest your brains.

No. It has a very definite, and somewhat dark, setting and fluff. BUT, it's such a large setting that there are just fucktons of things to do.

And it's not just DARK all over like WH40k or LIGHT all over like some comedy setting. In between stories of hypercorps memory-editing their employees(http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UUEXYBYC Sunwards), you've got stories of alien intelligences being huge trolls for laughs when they finally establish communications with humans(http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V1ZSBPI8 Gatecrashers, page 95, planet Giza, read it all).

Like, literally trolling humans by mailing them pictures of their alien genitalia.

Not quite. EP has much more of a clearly defined setting than straight out-of-the-corebook D&D does. Think something like Shadowrun, only without the near-singular focus on "you play a criminal for hire." I mean, you COULD play a criminal for hire, sure...but you could just as easily be an activist, a salvage expert, a security consultant, a soldier, etc.

The book DOES give you a default hook if you don't have one of your own, which is that characters can all be members of a clandestine organization called Firewall, whose purpose is to prevent so-called "existential threats" to transhumanity at large. In the EP setting, something like 90% of the human race is dead or quarantined on a hostile, war-ravaged Earth, and even with cortical backups the state of the (trans)human race is pretty fucking precarious. Firewall works to basically keep people from doing stuff that imperils what remains, mostly focusing on the disastrous leftovers of the war that saw people kicked off of Earth by hostile, self-improving Skynet-esque A.I.s...things like self-replicating nano-disassembler weaponry, multi-vector viruses capable of rewriting peoples' minds and transforming them into alien monsters with abilities that, at times, seem to violate the laws of science as transhumanity understands them, memetic programs of overwhelming potency, etc.

Oh, and that Space Cthulhu mentioned earlier? Yeah, not a lot of people know about that, but Firewall does...and Firewall strongly suspects that Space Cthulhu is the REASON why the A.I.s on Earth went kill-crazy. Also, those crazy, possibly alien-corrupted A.I.s? They didn't stick around on Earth...they left. And they're still out there, somewhere.

Later they're joined by Argonaut-tan and Mercurial-tan after saving them from Ozma-tan!

Bad news, however, Ozma-tan's teamed up with Factor-tan!

How will Firewall-tan and her friends ever get out of THIS one? And what if Ozma-tan really is telling the truth about TITAN-tan's return!? And will Jovia-tan ever manage to admit that she really kind of likes Mercurial-tan?!

Ozma-tan would be END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS, while Factor-tan would be the creepy, slightly crazy one, that no one's quite sure what to make of, and who might be the bad guy behind it all.

And of course, to make it a proper Magical Girl series, TITAN-tan has to turn out to just somehow be misunderstood, and after they finally defeat her they somehow befriend her.

    >>13959966

That's one thing I will say in EP's defense, I've yet to find a need to houserule anything about chargen. Though there are a couple of odd things.

CP and credit costs are kinda off for some morphs, and it's not even a reliable offness. Sometimes they're cheaper in CP, sometimes they're more expensive in CP(I'm using the base, un-errata'd .PDF, though we do say sniper rifles cannot full auto... is this fixed in the errata'd version?).

Also, how do you people who play EP handle buying stuff with rep? I find that the basic version of it is kind of bad, it's basically like gambling on getting stuff free, with the problem that if you have enough rep, you're not really risking anything.

Most of the time you're not really supposed to get it for free.

I think skill packs might be a good idea. Help people make characters of certain professions that are useful, but with some freedom to customize left over.

I forget; doesn't EP has one type of uber battle body that is always female? I remember finding it amusing.

Those are furies, the OP pic is one.

I think you can get a male fury, it's just super rare because they tend to be too aggressive to be useful.

Not very familiar with EP; does that mean only female PCs can play them then?

Given the sheer futureness of EP and their thoughts on gender-identity and ability to sculpt genetics, how would aggression from gender work?
I mean, so much of the basis of the world is that we've perfected gene-therapies (Except when we haven't, oops. Hope you enjoy your crippling addiction to orange soda or have enough money to make the body again.)

something about the construction of the fury tends towards permanent roid rage in males, or something..

    ..

course, odds are that some of the game designers just had a thing for musclegirls.. soo.. yeah.
