I just had an idea for an optional game rule; tell me if it's terrible:

    Revving.

You can opt to rev your engine at the start of a race. First roll a d10; this is how hard you rev it the first time (I'm looking at the character sheet and imagining a needle moving from 1 on the Car gauge).

Roll it a second time, and if your second rev is higher than the first, you get +1 Car for the first leg of the race. If you opt to roll a *third* time, you can, and if you roll even higher than the first two times, you get +2 Car for the same duration. In theory, this can keep piling up, BUT if you make a mistake that's it: If you fuck up your revving, you get -1 Car for the first leg.

Some rules mention d6 pools, so in trying to stick with that format or form factor..

    hmm..
pull d6s from your Car pool and roll. Target hit(Roar) is 1, 2 and 3. Miss(?) is 4, 5 and 6.

more hits then miss? Add 1 to car attribute.
more misses? lose half the gambled dice (rounded up to next whole d6 if uneven number)

    Just an idea?

    and for the tables..
    um..

    >Big Entrance, Sore Losers
    Enter a with +5 Car/Hot (pick one).

Win- gain normal benefits and spend next 6 races at -1 Car. Also -2 Hotness to anyone you defeated.

From what it looks like we can use the gain lengths idea for the actual racing with the track divided in to section. An average race could be like 50 sections, for example and there would be designated obstacle sections which players would be aware of as well as their corresponding difficulty.
To use your Hotness against another player, you would have to be in the same section, calling it a "Hook-Up" and you would roll: Hotness + XScoreD6 > Car +XDriftD6 to cause another player to become "seduced" and they lose their ability to hook-up with another player, or move in the next phase.
To utilize Hotness against opponent in front or behind a length you can use the same roll but based just on score. "Looks can Kill"
Obstacles are checked by rolling Car + XDriftD6 > Difficulty to succeed.
When you spend drift or score points to get more D6 for an action that many points are removed from your pool, to be replenished on the next lap.

    >>13992991
    ok..

So we are looking at opposed pools?

Car A (Alicia) and Car B (Betty)

Alicia is trying to pass Betty during her turn/round/time *initiative/pole position mechanic?*)

Alicia's A-Rod tuner is running at Car4, and Alicia herself is running solid 5.

    Betty's Bra-Burner is a Car5 driven by a smokin' 6.

Alicia tries a little flash of her "aftermarket modifications" to distract Betty and leave her in the dust. First 4 d6 are Alicia, 5 through 9 are Betty's Bra-burner. Skipping other modifiers for the moment?

I'm thinking this game should be played as a street race, not a track race. That would give more chances for cool encounters/random events. It would also randomize the courses. You can roll on a list for each new section of road you move out of the last on. You have to make your car roll to move on. Who ever moves on first gets to roll for the next section.

We can define a "race" as simply a contest that has a certain number of legs. In an officially-sanctioned track race, each leg would probably be a lap (I'm assuming no one wants to play a twelve-hour game of the Lesby 500).

For any race, the Dykemaster can simply decide (or roll a die) how long the race is from start to finish, and treat each leg as its own mini-contest.

Let's say a sexy illegal street race crops up, and all the hottest racers are there. The Dykemaster decides that there are four legs of the race.

Leg 1: All competing parties roll their Car (and if we're using the optional Revving rule, any extra dice they get from revving) for the first leg. The DM rolls events for each racer, the events are dealt with, and whoever has the most successes at the end of that leg is currently in the lead!

This continues for each leg, and even if someone has been consistently lagging in the rear, they can still come from behind and win if their total successes for the entire race are more than anyone else at the end of the last leg.

    Thoughts?

    BEGINNING DUMP
    >> Anonymous 02/22/11(Tue)11:32 No.13997259
Car Lesbians is an exciting new game from /tg/!

THE PREMISE: You have a car and you are a lesbian. You must make out with other girls while riding in your car and making your car awesome.

There are only two stats. These are Hotness and Car, and both are ranked 1-10 with normal people having a five in both (average looks / people carrier). Having a ten in each stat would make you smoking hot / give you a turbo-charged custom built bond car.

Its a dice pool system. You roll a d6 for every point you have with 4+ being a success, 6+ two successes, and each 1 is -1 success. If you get below 0 successes you have a critical failure.
    >> Anonymous 02/22/11(Tue)11:32 No.13997262
    BASE STATS:
    Hotness: 1d6+3
    Car: 1d6+3
    Drift: 1d6
Score: Average of Hotness and Drift
Trunk: Average of Hotness and Car

Score and Drift points are used throughout the game to pay for certain traits and such. You start with a base amount, and can earn more via stunting and certain traits.

You can take up to 3 Background Traits and two Car Mods, or 3 Car, 2 Background - your choice.

If you take a Lipstick ("Flaw") you can take an additional Background or Car trait. There is a limit of one Lipstick per character.

The normal cap for Hotness and Car is 10, but those numbers can rise above 10 during certain limited-time circumstances that arise during the game.
    >> Anonymous 02/22/11(Tue)11:34 No.13997271
Talking points from the first thread:

*RP/relational methods to spend Drift would be interesting. Recruiting a crew could provide you with different Drift options or special one use abilities? Would it be more appropriate to spend Drift or Score on replacing lost crew mates?

*I guess we need to work out some basic stuff for your pit crew? Limits, etc? What about your pit crew is limited by your base Score stat? That would make sense, right?

*Perhaps Trunk would be a derived stat, car + hotness + modifiers from background, representing how many points of Drift can be stockpiled?

*I had it originally intended as the limit for the number of Mods and upgrades your car could handle, plus the maximum number of points which could modify your rolls for various checks. The better the Trunk, the better the junk.

    *It seems like:
    -Score for Sexy Events/Stunts
    -Drift for Driving Events/Stunts
    -Both for Awesome Events/Stunts
Trunk determines how many car mods you can have.

    >Out
When you get an Out, you have to spend a Score point within that race/scene or you lose one point from your Hotness, as you are slowly turned into an hetero. And that is worse than losing.

    >slowly revealed as a hetero.
Idea behind that is that the character is hetero, but is hiding it to get into the lesbian car racing scene. Love the idea of calling them Outs though, and I like the idea of using Score to mitigate it too, perhaps that could be what's used to reduce the roll against accruing more Outs?

    RANDOM EVENTS

    >Sprung a Leak
Your Score total remains static this turn, and either Car or Hotness takes a one point hit, whichever is higher before the reduction.

    >Not Street Legal
One of your crew turns out to be underage! You get +1 Hotness when she's riding with you, but your Car is reduced by 1 because of her lack of experience under the hood!

    >Been Around the Track a Few Times
Reverse of Not Street Legal, for having a visibly older partner.

    >Lez All Go To The Movies
Someone has secretly filmed some of your lustfilled escapades, and is threatening to send the tape to your unknowing, extremely conservative parents. You must stop her!

    > Veiled threat
A lover dies under especially tragic circumstances (saving orphans, 2 days before retirement, etc.). You may designate a race for which you will devote all your time and energy, and win in her honour. For this race, gain +3 to Car, +1 to Hotness, and gain 3 temporary Drift points. You may not use any Score points until you have won the designated race. (If you fail the first time, you must wait until the next time this race is scheduled before you may use another Score point!)
    >> Anonymous 02/22/11(Tue)11:37 No.13997298
    >Death race
You have been invited to the most dangerous (and sexy) of races! If you accept and win, double your current Drift and Score points. If you lose the race, lose all your Drift and Score points.

    >The Fast and the Bi-Curious

    Pot Hole
You smoke a lot... but not tobacco. As a scene starts, roll a d6. On a 1, you're stoned (mostly incoherent and fading in and out of consciousness) and take a -4 to CAR and HOTNESS. On a 2, you're buzzed and take a -2 to CAR while gaining +2 to HOTNESS but, at some point during the scene, you will need to eat. If you don't, take -2 to HOTNESS for the next scene until you eat.

    Road Gash
You like 'it' WHILE driving - espcially once your adrenaline starts flowing. Once a race, chase or any other adrenaline pumping activity starts while you're driving, she gets to work and you take a -4 to your CAR trait until your passanger makes a successful HOTNESS check (and finishes you off). Make a successful CAR check to avoid needing to stop as the throes f passion overcome you but, if you pass, you're sudden relaxed state and clarity of vision gives you +2 to your CAR trait for 10 minutes.

I just got home from work. I have an alternate idea about how races can be played. We'll make a random table (could be cards) each will describe a part of the race
    ex: sharp turn, straightaway, ramp.
The player in the lead is the one who rolls on the chart thus determining what appears as the next leg of the race course.
So you have a poll of say, 10-20 race course items (cards), and as they are rolled up they lay out the race track.
    ex.
    Sharp turn
    Tunnel
    Bridge
    sharp turn
    bridge out/ramp
    intersection
    straightaway
    etc.

You have to make a successful car roll to move onto the next part. But the type of card can modify your roll. such as Sharp turn- it's a tight one, make your roll at -2.
...or Wet Canal, it's slippery down here, make your roll at -3.
...or Straightaway-it's wide open, put the hammer down, make your roll at +2.

Hope that makes sense. Then we can make all sorts of fun track bits. Like cargo container ramp and hotel lobby.

    capthcha: 1976 naturely
    Ahhh yeah.

Guys, how did you take such a rules-light concept like the original first post had and add so much junk to it? Seriously, tripling the number of numerical statistics? Shitloads of backgrounds and mods and stuff that add ridiculously high numbers to things (I mean, really, considering a scale from 1-10, anything above +/- 1 is going to be very swingy). I found the prospect of random tables a bit more interesting, but it would be nice if they were short, concise and maybe a bit more modal - multiple rolls of archtypes to develop an encounter or patron rather than just full fledged entries. Pic sort of related, I guess.

I'd like to think the only reason this happened was because some people had too many car/lesbian puns and needed something to do with them, but really, come on, this is starting to seem convoluted. I'll definitely be sticking to the original version of it with my Car Lesbians group.

I'm well aware it's not the only way it can go, but it was just the overwhelming amount of crunch and rules-heaviness that seemed to be discussed in the last thread. I mean, there's so much stuff people are refusing to repost it all. I just didn't notice much appreciation in the last thread for the rules-light version of the game, and found that kind of saddening. I know /tg/ does good work on homebrew games, but most of them that I see go the rules-heavy route and I was really hoping to see one stay rules-minimal.

Regardless of the weight of the rules, I still think a lot of those backgrounds and lipsticks and stuff that were being made deal with numbers at way too large a scale considering the actual stat range. And some of them that had a d6 roll in them can cause drastically different effects. Even a rules-heavy game can stand to be tightened up as a system.

OP here (not the creator OP, just a compiler)

Don't worry, I've got everything. Between easymodo and suptg everything is online, and I'm adding it to my text file as well.

And re: edition wars, I was under the impression that everything beyond the basic Hotness and Car were optional rules. I mean, practically everything is either a random event or something else that goes on the table, and I think having more options is a good idea. This game doesn't have to be tied down to a single edition, when players can pick and choose to create their own editions. My two cents.

Additionally, a lot of the current material is just different +/- Car -/+ Hot bonuses when you only really need a handful of those. The rest of the backgrounds or perks or whatever should ideally be situational modifiers, so the game can distinguish between someone with a lot of racing Car and a lot of mechanical Car for example. Or they should change the way the parts of the game interact, but since Hot and Car are the only really solid parts of the game it's hard to get very creative with them.

Also, I'd also like to propose right now that a CAR LESBIANS character be limited to basically the following attributes:

Hot and Car are obviously in, as the defining features of a car lesbian. Although the way I'm picturing it, Car is a representation of the CL's skill at driving and maintenance, and not of her actual, physical car.

That will be taken car of by backgrounds which describe your car, in the same way your car lesbian is fleshed out by backgrounds that describe her while Hot is mostly just a measurement of how well she achieves things through seduction, subterfuge, and being a lesbian.

Finally, I think an underlooked attribute/thing that every car lesbian ought to have is a pit crew/harem. Since we're trying to keep this light, instead of being an npc or something a member of your crew would basically just another background.

Trunk, I guess, can be a measure of the total amount of these attributes you can have, whether they're car mods, personal features, or crew. It has to be something, because the name is awesome.

I imagine Drift being something like shift in FATE games, or the Crucial Mechanic in Sorcerer that lets you carry over successes from previous, related rolls.

Finally, the one thing we're seriously missing is some sort of Bad Thing that can happen to a car lesbian, something like a condition track or hitpoints. Perhaps failures apply penalties to your Hot or Car (or maybe disable backgrounds) and you're out (crashed, psyched out, exhausted, seduced, etc..) when you reach 0 in on of your stats?

Also, while this is a RPG. It is played in a per race time frame. You can lose the race and/or not get sexed up. Either of which is bad for a car lesbian.

    >>14004346
But the existing lipsticks are (a) closer to 'flaws' taken at character generation and (b) almost exclusively just penalties to Hot or Car anyway.

What I'm getting at is, say your arch-nemesis tries to run you off the road and rolls more successes on the Car v. Car contest. What does this do? Does it give you a temporary 'out of control' lipstick worth -2 car. And if so what happens when your Car reaches 0?

Not that I'm opposed to temporary lipsticks as damage. In fact, if the player gets to choose how they're lipstuck you can have situations where when you're at 1 Car and desperately trying to stay in the race, you have to take penalties to Hot since it's hard to remain sexy while trying not to crash your vehicle (or alternatively, at 1 Hot you're so distracted and bothered that it's affecting your driving).

But there needs to be ways to get ahead or put the competition behind, or else everyone is just rolling Car or Hot as appropriate until they achieve X successes.

You work it so that every sort of interaction simply gives a bonus to the winning party, but having a way to 'damage' the competition is also useful, which means Bad Stuff other than losing the overall competition.

It would depends on how you are playing the game. If you are using the random track legs style, you would get run off the road and have to get back in the race where you left off, now with your nemesis in the lead. I don't really understand how it could work with the other option.

Here's an example. You and your enemy are racing on a random course. You are in the lead. You roll for the next section of race course. You get "Gravel Strewn S-curve! Difficult driving. You both make you car roll even with the modifier. So you are still in the lead. you for the next bit of race track. You get "Back Alley barn storm, the straight and narrow, -1 to car. You fail your roll, but your enemy makes hers. She is now in the lead and rolls for the next bit of track... and so on.

Every lap the DM rolls on the random events table for you. What about the other stuff?

We're well on our way to making a clean, stripped-down and ready-for-action lesbian racing system.

And if your enemy wants to try some aggressive and/or seductive driving, it'd probably be an opposed Car and/or Hot roll where the loser gets a penalty to that stat on the next section of the course (or perhaps the rest of the race, depending on the sort of maneuver).

If you're Car is ever reduced to 0, you narrowly avoid crashing and make no progress on that section, although your Car is refreshed for the remaining ones (same thing for Hot, if things get too steamy your car lesbian might need to rest for a lick before she can continue racing).

Taking a pit stop reduces some of your accumulated successes but refreshes any lasting penalties to your Car and Hot, and might be required to sort out any random issues that have come up among your pit crew.

    >>14004745
I would say that your Hotness and Car can never fall below 1, so you always have at least once chance at success (and hey, if you roll a 6, that counts as two successes; your rival might only roll one - or none!)
    >> Anonymous 02/22/11(Tue)23:23 No.14004830
    >>14004800

Or if your Car drops to 0 you are out of the race, period.

Hotness 0 might mean you've passed out, either from things getting too hot and heavy or for some other reason.

This would also work. Instead of being forced to take a pit stop the player could opt to do so to replenish their very much diminished stats, or stay in the race and hope they get lucky.

    >>14004891
I think you should be able to choose between staying in the race or taking a pit stop to reset your stats and therefor automatically lose that leg of the race.

If your Car or Hotness hits 0, you're done, so you need to choose whether to stay in with a beat-up ride or take a breather.

I can get behind this. Also if you fail your car roll to move out of a certain section of track, you are stuck there till you do. Allowing you opponents to take a wide lead. Let's get some race track legs(cards) written up. If you have some good ones post'em.

    >If your Car or Hotness hits 0, you're done

Like, for the entire race? I feel like that is against the spirit of this sort of game. Although staying in but being totally unable to win barring extremely lucky rolls is only a little bit better, I suppose.

The severity of the consequences for dropping to 0 would also depend on how likely it is to ever happen, and on the length (in real time) of a race. If it's something that can occur reasonably frequently, and races take a while to play out, there should be as many mechanics as possible to ensure that a player feels like they're remaining relevant regardless of what happens.

I take it the players would all normally be on the same lesbian car racing team, so maybe they could move to a support role if they manage to be taken out of the competition?

These races are fast and furious. Drivers will be getting wrecked or out sexed at a rapid pace. You can always take a pit stop. We could just say if your reach zero in either stat you have to take a mandatory pit stop(car) or powered your nose(hotness) to reset your stats and then your back in the game. Maximum 3 pits per game?

I wonder if you could actually combine this with the table of random events... make a deck.

For a standard track race, remove the other random events and just use track sections and track events.

For a street race/cross country/marathon style race, add in the other events which create more variety.

The length of each race is determined by the number of obstacles dealt/rolled. This would allow a Dykemaster to set a game length and/or the specific conditions of the race by changing the events available and the number of that event occurrence. Of course, you could use a table instead and roll, but the tactile feel of a card deck is fun too.

    >>14004930
I like the idea of Car = abstraction of character skill, nerves, physical condition of their car.
Likewise, Hot = abstraction of verve, confidence, passion, etc.
Neither are just physical set characteristics, they should go up and down over the course of a race, and running out of either is lights out. It also fits with the "speedometer" visual on the character sheet.

Instead of simply drawing an arrow, a really creative group could possibly cut out an arrow and loosely pin it to the sheet, shifting it up and down as play progresses.
    >> Anonymous 02/22/11(Tue)23:51 No.14005325
It strikes me that influencing the random events roll is an unexplored part of the CAR LESBIANS design space. Roll twice and take your pick would be an interesting background, for example.

And if we tag the events, certain backgrounds could let you do things like reroll the first automotive mishap event of a race.

    Good morning, Car Lesbians!

I think if we used the card idea the game would be perfect. It's a quick and fun game, and if it's a card based system you can put it in your pocket. It will also make it easier for noobs to pick up. Cards also give us a way to bring lots of awesome and saucy visuals to our game. Which would be a huge plus as 50% of our game is about hot lesbians and the other 50% is about hot cars. we'll have no shortage of images.difa blegov
    >> Anonymous 02/23/11(Wed)07:50 No.14009371
Another reason cards would be nice at least for the track generation is you can leave them out on the table to mark who is where and what type of terrain they are in. We can include a list of the cards and a random d100 table in the rule book for folks who don't want to print cards. It'll work the same, but require a little better book keeping.
    >> Anonymous 02/23/11(Wed)07:52 No.14009384
I think you should be able to play through a single race in less than and hour, making a night of playing car lesbians a series of races. The dykemaster can weave a story to connect the multiple races or you can just play to win with beer and prezetels.
    >> Anonymous 02/23/11(Wed)07:57 No.14009422
Example of a story to combine multiply races.

"Lowrider Jean, didn't want to race anymore, she had done her time in that dirty world. But her sister needed that operation and kidneys don't grow on trees. So she slid into her skin tight curve hugging racing suit on more time. Now all I have to do is win all three contender runs and then take the championship haul."

    Or something like that... herp.
