Part 2 is autosaging, archive is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/14070769

Simon Tam has gone from ordinary dude of the 19th millennium to target of the Imperial Navy to prophet of the Mechanicum, and now courtesy of his AI assistant Veronica, is the galaxy's finest Space Pimp. The Fabricator General stands by outside to escort you to Mars.

    As I stated before:
"One of these days, Veronica, one of these days!"

Put on the entire ensemble, and stride out. We are a walking arsenal, with more firepower and shielding than an entire squadron of their battleships on our person alone. Let's act like it.
    >> Anonymous 03/01/11(Tue)02:24 No.14084189
Engage Pimply Swagger. Meet the FG with a steady gaze, googly camera lens to eye and say you are ready to paint Mars red.
Well alright. Just act like nothing is amiss and thank him for his hospitality and protection.
    >> OP !IStSIACosg 03/01/11(Tue)02:24 No.14084191
You asked for a suit of armor, preferably something flashy. You got a pimp suit, complete with cane (that fires bolts of destructive immateria). You groan. "Really Veronica? Really?" *If I have to pretend to be a dumb terminal you can handle doing a little pimping.* "Fine, we'll go with it, but you'd better give me a hat too" you begrudgingly reply. *Of course* A velvet hat complete with peacock feather joins the ensemble. *The hat incorporates a grav-thruster that will let you move in any direction regardless of local conditions. Now you're a FLYING pimp. Oh, and one more thing.* A pair of green tinted glasses with gold frames appears on top of the hat. *These glasses act as a warp transit beacon. As long as you're within two light years from the ship or any other compatible teleporter they'll let you preform short-range warp jumps. Now go see what their leader wants.*

Look, considering what we're asking Veronica to do, it's reasonable for her to do this.
And if everything works as advertised, and we pull this off, I'm willing to bet that the entire Mechanicum will be sporting canes, velvet hats, big green sunglasses, and other such accoutrements.

The suit is made of carbon nanoweave so it's going to be damn near bulletproof. The shield is stupidly strong by Imperial standards, but your ship has twice that and it's a junky civilian thing. The hat works similarly to a jet-pack, only with gravity, and all the glasses do is act as a beacon, the actual teleporation is done by the ship's onboard teleporter. All perfectly legit for DAoT, the only problem might be power source, but just go with it.

After instructing Veronica to seal the ship against entry by anyone other than you, you exit the ship, suppressing the urge to swagger. The Fabricator General either doesn't notice your ridiculous getup or doesn't care. "If you have finished gathering your supplies Prophet, allow me escort you and your blessed vessel to Mars"

He beckons you enter his shuttle, and once inside you are suddenly aware of how claustrophobic the thing is. You can definitely tell that this design was originally meant for automated maintenance drones. "I apologize for my craft's lack of grace Prophet" the Fabricator says. "We have languished for ages without the Machine God's guiding light to guide us, I can only dream of what wonders your blessed revelations will allow."

As you start to fly towards the planet you hear Veronica's voice in your ear. *They've taken the ship into a gravitonic tractor field. I'm being pulled in the wake of the one you're in. It's not too strong though, if things go south I can get you back here and out of here in seconds.*

"Prophet" the Fabricator General's voice snaps you back to the situation at hand. "We have a few minutes before we make planetfall. Tell me of the Golden Age; what is it like to have the Machine God guiding your every movement? What sort of wonders have you in your lives?"

Navigators had the fundies and the paranoid up in arms, people were still dumb enough to fight over space on Earth, as if we hadn't solved that with terraforming and the Geller Field and just...

Look, I don't know who's been telling you what, but we had our problems. It wasn't an age of "Machine Gods" and "Holy Spirits" it was an age of people, using tools more advanced than any. But they were still tools, you understand.

Along the way, think. The Warp displacement that brought us here was an accident. We probably couldn't replicate it even if we were back home and had a whole planet's worth of AI doing the calculations for us. It'd be even harder to do it in reverse. Whatever happens, we're stuck here, so we ought to make the best of it...

And the best place to start is to help these people, not just to get their technology working, but to get their brains working right.

Ask to be taught all about the galaxy at large, and the Mechanicus in particular, so that we can figure out the best way to help.

I keep realizing how much they suck moments AFTER I post them.

"..."Golden Age"? I called it Tuesday. I lived in a planet in the galactic east with my dog Ralph. My sister lived on Earth, I was on my way to visit her when I got lost in the warp and ended up here. My best friend Alex went to school on Mars; there was a university there. The best applied science and engineering school in the galaxy. They're all dead now. They probably don't even have ashes anymore. You seem to think my time was some sort of magical wonderland full of "machine spirits" and "omnisiahs", but really, it was just people. People living their lives, going to school, living in crappy apartments, synthesizing pizza on Friday because their friends are coming over. You say "the machine god guided our every movement", but I don't even know what the machine god IS.

All I ever wanted to do was go to my sister's birthday party but instead I get threatened, shot at, intimidated, and now I'm apparently Robo Jesus. Fabricator, if what little of the 41st millennium I've seen is indicative of the whole, we're the kind of backwards, warmongering primitives that we thought we'd put behind us. Everyone I've ever known is dead, it looks like everything we worked so hard for is gone, and all I've heard about since the moment I got here is a set of blueprints I got at Walmart for $8.99! You want me to tell you what the 19th millennium was like? Home. It was home.

The Fabricator General waits a moment to respond. "You are recovering from shock at the discovery of your genetic relatives dying and your lifestyle being forcibly altered. I will allow you to cope with this loss in peace." The rest of the ride is fairly uneventful, and eventually you feel a thump as the shuttle sets down. *We're inside an enormous facility built around the mountain. There's a blast door that's sealed us in* you hear as the hatch on the shuttle opens. "Welcome to Olympus" the Fabricator General tells you. "Follow me to my office so that we might begin organizing the salvation of the Mechanium." Outside the craft, you're in a very large, very dirty hanger. Your ship is behind the one your rode in, and red robed people of all shapes and sizes are either touching it reverently or kneeling and groveling before it.

You allow yourself to be led down a hallway as unapologetically mechanical as everything else you've seen from the people in red. *Was that just to shut him up?* Veronica asks you. You don't answer.

Eventually you make it to what looks like a conference room. Chairs circle a table emblazoned with a picture of a skull, half of which is really crudely mechanical. Magos Devinaro follows you, as do several Skitarii. A special chair sits at the head of the table, built to accommodate the FabGen's unique body shape. You choose a seat arbitrarily and sit down. Devinaro sits next to his master, and the Skitarii stand in a perimiter around the room. "So then Prophet" the Fabricator says to you. "The Search For Knowledge stands at the precipetece of completion, all that remains is for you to turn the STC over to us. We are, of course, infinite in our gratitude. The entire Mechanicum answers to me, and as a High Lord of Terra I can speak for the Imperium itself. So tell me Simon Tam, what repayment would you like in thanks for all you do for us?

Pimp suits and Walmart are unlikely to exist in 20,000 years, which is when the DAoT was.

What little evidence we have of the DAoT (such as the appearance of the Blade of Infinity or archeotech) suggests it was Raygun Gothic, by the way.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying this quest. I just hope it doesn't follow the lolrandumbxd trend that the pimp clothes would suggest.

Alright, I need to be wrapping this up. We'll have that "what do you want?" line be a holdover for the next game. I don't know when that will be, but almost certainly within the next couple of days. It's kind of annoying having this be half sized because of 2's half-and-half design, so don't feel the need to keep this alive. Next part will be its own thread so we can keep the parts self contained.

    We should probably archive this...

My internet is being a bitch at the moment, can someone get on that?

Wait, why didn't we just use the void suit?
