Honestly, i'm not certain on anything past that point, I've heard lots of fast and loose rumours about whats up and almost all of it you would have read on places like warseer etc like the summer of fliers etc.

What i can say, is the same as i said last night and that is that i've heard that this September will see either a warhammer quest re release like space hulk or possibly a new version of blood bowl. Can't answer why they seem to be totally opposite ideas, but thats what i heard last time i was in nottingham. My money is on quest.

In answer to do I like it? No

I used to a while ago, but I've hated it for the last year or so, which is why I'm leaving next month.

In general retail is a crap job, people treat you like you're their personal slave, but recently the company has started turning from a small family esk business with the usual positives and negatives that come with that into a large multinational company which has all the negatives that come with that, none of the positives (i.e. pay increases, upper management with a shred of business understanding) and kept the negatives of a small family business (i.e. you don't minds working 10 straight? Oh we'll pay you 30quid for a 5 hour stock check)

Also wank stain was put at the top of his posts before he started using a trip so people could easily recognize it was the OP

What are your thoughts on the 6th edition rumors? I've heard it will be SMs vs. Chaos in the new intro set.

I do remember you saying something about fluff advancement yes? Care to expand on that?
    >> Wank Stain !6tccu/ViRM 03/24/11(Thu)23:15 No.14356587
Oh the wank stain thing comes from the fact that up untill like 5 in the morning yesterday the only way i could identify my posts was with something unique i put at the start of whatever i posted and for some reason i felt wank stain was the way to go, so when someone showed me how to use trip i kept the W S part.

Sisters, will be re done, i don't have anything concrete, but they're not going to get rid of something that makes them money. If they kept the dark eldar, they'll keep sisters. Haven't had anything time with the grey knight book as i'm on holiday so can't make any guesses on them giving the GK all the cool shit.

Worse customer asked me why we were closed on monday and tuesdays and when i answered that i spent that time with my wife and or studying she in a very condecending manner told me 'oh good for you, yes well done'

And unfortunatly all i could do was eat shit, because whilest i might hate my job atm, i still pride myself and being fucking good at it.
...though i might always be mysteriously booked up whenever she calls to get her son to do a lesson

I talked about this last night, in short, yes Necrons will be coming out, my money is on October for several reasons and I've heard that it's a major change, much like with the Dark Eldar so I'd stay away from buying anything, maybe pick up the Ctan models if you're a big fan of the sculpts as I've heard they might be removed or something

I'm a little sad that 6th is coming out in 2012, i'd heard about this 2 months ago and had dismissed it due to the source it came from, but several things he's said at that point have suddenly appeared in the 'mouths' of certain rumour websites from users who've been spot on the money 95% of the time for the last 3 years. So yes i'd put money on it.

What will it be like? Not a clue, i'm very happy with 5th, in fact i feel like i would like another 2 years with it as I've not got to actually enjoy it as much as i could have. My only change with be to add in a LD modifyer for every additional casulty over the 25% mark a unit takes during shooting as i find that you almost never fail that as well as pinning, haven't seen someone get pinned in years.

I'll post another ..post about the fluff in a second, just need to go get the wife a drink of water

This one might be a tad long as this goes back to Andy Chambers.

Before he left (in fact, this story is the reason he left, or so I've been told) he came up with a plan to advance the 40k setting without it affecting the general state of the table top game.

His idea if I'm correct was another branch of the tyranid mennace shoots up from the bottom of the galatic plane straight for Terra setting the imperium on full alert. This occurs almost at the exact time as the 13th Black Crusade is launched meaning that the imperium is split and not only does Cadia fall, but terra is but fucked with the high lords leaving and the emporer kicking the bucket.

This sparks off several things, with the emp free of his body he begins to form the chaos child a new god in the warp more powerful than the chaos gods and it's purpose to protect humanity as well as the primarchs (at least the ones alive) returning and waging a massive war across the galaxy as everyone starts to pull out their end of the galaxy plans.

Basically you ramp up the grim dark with everyone fighting to survive. GW said no, and what was left of his idea got turned into the 13th black crusade.

The reason i say all this is that the rumour is that they've decided that perhaps that was the way to go, not soo quickly as mr chambers wanted and not using all the same plot points. But we might actually see the odd primarch turn up in 6th.

You'll notice that during 4th edition, the 13th black crusade seemed to have almost not happened and now it seems to be leading back up to it again, so we might see it as another big plot point, but hopefully done well.

We have a legal obligation to continue with the LOTR franchise and we'd probably loose more money if we were to just get rid of it.

Also the Hobbit will be out fairly soon, so that will kick start it all off again. Until that point you've seen the last of LOTR centric releases though. They still will release stuff, but it'll be secondry to something else, like the dwarf and goblin stuff back when they released the daemons of whatever else it was. Not until the hobbit get released that is.

Personally i hated the LOTR books, felt like reading the bible, so i don't play the game, but the mechanics to the stratagy game are quite cool and a lot of free systems use it with the odd mod or two

oooh, about Black library, any idea about the continuing structure of the Horus heresy series? I mean like how long they plan to continue it, will it go past the setting up of the the golden throne into the aftermath? Are they planning on at least starting to tie in some of the revelations into current books, like the void dragon, alpharius omegon, what not? Will we find out about the fate of Saul Tarvitz and the mysterious hangar the dred was guarding on isstvaan?
    >> Wank Stain !6tccu/ViRM 03/24/11(Thu)23:52 No.14357034
Forgeworld is it's own company almost and works to a completely different schedule, basically they bring stuff out when they think that its of a high enough quality and also when they've got the models done for it. GW tried to get them to change, to bring out their books and then slowly bring out models, like they do for codexs, but the guy in charge (i forgot his name) aparantly told them where to shove that idea and that he thinks the way he runs things is better as people get cool models and some beta rules for them and then when they've got the models made that they wanted made, then they'll release the book.

In other words got no fucking clue, but it'll be out probably in the next 2-3 months as they've already made a fair amount of stuff, but they've still got the wolves end of things to produce.

I actually really love the way they work, much more hobby based. There will be aparantly some more heresy specific stuff coming as the head of forgeworld got bored waiting for GW to do something with the heresy model wise, scratch built his own stuff and when people saw it aparantly said, shit yeah fuck it you should sell that through forgeworld

With the rumors about 6th edition and everything else, are you predicting a major shift in gameplay like the infantry to vehicle focus seen from 4th ed to 5th?
    >> Wank Stain !6tccu/ViRM 03/24/11(Thu)23:55 No.14357069
Going to have to disappoint you with information on the heresy as they're very tight lipped about it all and so are most of the writers. They are attempting to be very careful with it and spending a lot of time having meetings to make sure that it doesn't get fucked up.

Aparantly Graham and Dan had to sit behind ben counter when he wrote galaxy and say no to 100s of shit ideas. He wanted to change Angron into a chilled out dude -_- and in the end had to spend ages re writing parts of it. It's the main reason why galaxy in flames is great, but then battle of the abyss is pure wank.

    >>14357053
I'm fairly sure the move to mech wasn't ever planned. I don't think they thought it would have that huge a change, sure they clearly wanted people to start using transports etc but i don't think they saw it happen in the way it has.

6th is a mystery, we didn't find stuff out about 8th edition fantasy till the day of the national meeting where they pathetically tried to make us all act like children with smoke machines and our head of sale jumping through a door with the new rule book

It might just be another small change with 4th to 5th or it could be a huge revamp like they did with fantasy. Not a clue, 40k makes up like 60-70% of our sales for the entire company, so they've got some hard choices ahead.

If you scroll up a bit I've already talked about that a fair amount. Fantasy is getting a huge push forward with the warhammer forge books, but nothing has been said about that following through to the main game.

    >>14357047
I don't think they'll do another actual loyalist marine book, even they're not that stupid, there's only so much you can milk that cow. Brand new races are a big thing for GW as they make a ton of money, it's a huge deal for hobbyists and there's something almost mystical about the success of these new races. So they're very careful about doing them too often and doing them right (unlike the first release of the DE). So in other words, good chance on a new race, but when? No idea, it'll be tight lipped though, think space hulk tight lipped, but perhaps more.

Hmmm I told a few of these last night, so let me think about one I haven't told.

Okay, here's a comparrison on what it used to be like to work for GW and what it's like now.

Several years ago, more years than i care to admit when i was a full timer and we had stores with more than 1 person, me and the rest of my co workers went drinking and kept drinking through the night travelling from one pub to the next to one of the guys flats and then without sleeping we all went back to work and had to take hour naps in the backroom to recover. One guy was half way through an intro when he had to run out back, throw up and then like a fucking boss continued with the intro. Can't remember if he got a huge sale out of it, but the kid definatly bought something.

Now, we go up to head office every 3 months for something call the SS camp (selling standards camps, or something i've called them SS camps for so long i forget) where we spend 2 days sitting about taking turns to suck the training team's cock and make sure that we suck it just right, not too often, not too hard and always to smile.

How do you keep your patience at *those* people who come into the store and are just..... rage inducing.

    You know the sort...
People who think they know better. Neckbeards who enjoy tabling first-timers. Those who insist on playing with a wall of grey plastic army. Miniature thieves. Parents who treat the store like a creche....etc

I always did my best to be polite to the staff at my local GW... they were a great bunch.Got some great conversion ideas from them... including a sentinel with glass windows.

No idea, but i doubt anyone knows the community dislikes matt ward. Nottingham are so far removed from everything, it's actually quite scary as they have this little bubble of safety that is lenton and they never leave and so they think everything is fine.

Now don't get me wrong, that sounds bad and yes it is, but GW aren't close to failing and dying. Any person who starts one of those, so when will GW die threads is an actual retard without a shred of knowledge about the company, about how business works and i'd bet about how to make a woman not vomit when they see you. They'll get backlash and not do as well for a while, then they'll finally get that through their skulls and actually get rid of matt ward and or make big changes. It just takes a very very long time for them to understand the ramifications of what they do.

Do tell me if I go off topic too much, i tend to rant at points

The worst one was this guy who came in at christmas to buy the 50quid SM starter set, when i showed to to him and talked to him about it, he decided to get a tactical squad instead and when i tried to change his mind he said 'oh it's nothing to do with the price, just can't be bothered to carry that around, i'm sure he'll like these instead.'

Didn't buy glue and considering this was AOBR i'm fairly sure he didn't have anything, little jimmy probably opened them on x-mas morning and got to look at the pretty pieces.

Nope, we get CRB checked (criminal record background check) as UK law demands that due to working with kids, otherwise no.

I try to explain that to most parents, but they just don't care. I'm currently in a one man store, so the kids get kicked out when i go for lunch and it's their business what happens when i leave.

That might sound harsh, but the alternative is me being abused and taken advantage of even more than i already am, same goes for almost all other GW retail staff

Great thread, and thanks GWanon; it's the brave and beardy blokes like you who make /tg/ great.

    Many questions:

Sales quotas, do you have them?
If so, what are the ramifications of not meeting them?
Is there an ample rewards system in place for meeting/exceeding them?
Have you ever had to sack someone for not meeting goals?

You say that GW pulls you in to SS (sales training) meetings. Does the company subscribe to any particular method or system of sales?

Do you ever get any cool travel out of being a GW store manager/employee?

How accurate are the internet sites BoLS and sons, Warseer, etc. when it comes to rumour proliferation? Do you, as a GW store manager, actually have much (if any) additional knowledge, or even lead time, over these internet sites?

What do you think of Fantasy Flight Games? Are they generally perceived positively by GW? How about BL? (I personally believe that they "get it" better than many of the GW/BL writers. OMFG, I loved the whole Haarlock series. Read the adventures like novels... sent shivers up my spine at moments.)

Do you still play WFB/40k for pleasure or is it the gynecologist joke? ("Oh darling please, not another vagina today.") Does GW count on "love of the game" to keep hobby store workers employed?

Apologies if you hit these last night... I missed it.

Ok, so I actually think that Ward did a decent job with the UM, given that he pretty much wrote them as the blue and gold standard for us to compare everything else to.

And as for iterative fluff changes based on fan reaction, consider the info that has come to light in Prospero Burns and The First Heretic... UM Legion *might have* taken in marines from the lost legions...

This means that UM *might have* traitor gene-seed in their midst. Certainly opens the door to a darker shade of blue boy. I find it funny that Aaron Dembski Bowden was basically the initiator of this fluff (to my knowledge), and that ADB is a confirmed fa/tg/uy. I can see him doing that, too... "Fuck, I have to write UMs... well, I am gonna write an marine of a darker shade of blue."

ADB *might have* saved Matt Ward's job with some HH ninja moves.

It amuses me that SOMEONE has finally said it, and now I'm waiting for some manner of butthurt to come out.
Ultras have always been the poster children of the Imperium, ALWAYS had the most special characters, ALWAYS took up the majority of the fluff in the SM codices. Nothing has changed, except the people with decidedly short memories who think that the latest thing to change on them is always the worst and everything that came before was better.
Guess what? Traits and doctrines just led to improved tournyfaggotry at every level. The people who used them for specific ideas were far outnumbered by the people who abused the system.
NO ONE actually used the GKs special rule about giving the opponent free lesser daemons or a daemon prince because GKs were bad enough as it stood, just like no one actually calls SoB players on gross misuse of Faith points. People bitching that they are gone are just people looking for anything to cling to.
Ward has written arguably the best crunch of any author in 5th edition. Everyone else has had either overpowering options or a dearth of them on several levels, Deldar notwithstanding. It has already been proven you can't have both, so I will take good rules that I can play with versus fluff that rarely comes up when I USE my expensive pieces of metal and plastic for the purpose I bought them for.

Yes we do have sales targets, we have to make 3% growth on the previous year, which is done by increasing ATV (average transaction value, i.e. you sure you wouldn't rather buy the mega paint set instead of that one pot of paint?) and increasing customer count. We also have to hit KPIs (key performance indicators) which are intro games, intro paint lessons, core game sales (boxes and books), hobby starter sets (the set with paints, sand, clippers etc) website registration, in store terminal transactions, beginner lessons and i think thats it.

I've never fired somone based on not hitting targets, I've fired people who haven't tried or improved, but not purely on, oh you haven't hit your intro target for 3 months in a row. That does happen, and it happens a hell of a lot in the last year, I've been in a one man store (lost a very good full timer) since Mayish

If you make over the 3% growth, the manager and only the manager takes home 20% of the extra, but that's it and to be honest it's really not happening a lot at all.

Hahaha, subscribe to a particular method of sale, god that would imply that anyone up there pays attention to anything like business theory. No, they've got their own way of doing things, it'll take me hours to explain it, so in short, they have some good ideas, but then they end up fucking it up with things like daily assessment sheets.

No cool travel unless you think nottingham is cool (it's not, it's a shit hole)

Bols warseer are almost always spot on, seriously spot on, we don't tend to get any information before most people do, occasionally you do depending on who your regional manager or whether, like myself you're very good at networking and pretending like you like people.

LOVE fantasy flight, got myself the rpg books, the board games, hell even the warhammer living card game.

Not heard anything from gw about FF tbh, they used to have chaos in the old world in bugmans bar.

It is exactly the same as the gyno joke, i'm leaving in a month so i've gone crazy with my discount in preperation to start enjoying my hobby. Don't get me wrong it used to be better, but this year, my hobby dried up and died.

Finally in answer to your last question, oh my god yes they do. At the moment, at least in the UK moral is really really low, people are leaving left right a center in retail and people are always moaning and bitching on the phone. But, get up in the middle of a meeting and try to address these issues and those same people will try and burn you alive for daring to question their lords and masters.

Forgot to say, on the most part i think the models are wank, odd things like the drake and the individual nazgul are very cool, most others especially the older stuff are bad in my opinion.

Now i touched on this slightly earlier, but I'll go into it now.

The black library have some amazing ideas and produce some great stuff, but there is still this major lack of organization and professionalism . I used to think/hope that there was this massive internal wiki with all the information about the background of 40k and fantasy. So that writers could look up stuff to make sure they weren't treading on people's toes etc.

There isn;t one, at one point the writers all held a meeting to discuss creating one, but no one wanted the job (ever since i heard that I've wanted that job), so there ARE tons of mistakes, even in the heresy (fallen angels anyone with the i'm Astelan and i'm terran, nope I'm from calliban actually, I hate pykers, nope LOVE THEM actually.

There are lots of writers and indeed artists don't know the setting well enough, with editors having to make comments like 'nope sorry bolters don't fire laz beams, can you please re write that' i'm not taking the piss that happened.

There are points of hope with writers like ADB, if you're reading this I will leave my wife and have your anal babies.

Sorry if this sound rude, but you are wrong, i do apologize but you are wrong. It's still competitive, turning up in the top 10 more often than Tyranids do. Yes there are issues with it, yes you do have more useless units in your codex than some, but you've still got some great stuff and you're still competitive.
    >>14357843
Tau are quite far off, so i doubt anyone outside of the design studio know what they're doing look wise, but in all honestly it could go either way. The models are old and i think need re working, but then again so do the Tomb Kings and they're getting almost nothing re done, but of course thats fantasy and as I've said 40k sells better than fantasy so perhaps they just don't want to invest the money in TK but might do so with Tau.

If I were you I'd leave the Tau alone till they get re released, they (unlike the eldar) desperatly need a new codex and they just don't work anyone.

    - What's your take on /tg/ 's (and to a lesser extent the *chans in general) fan branching out/fluff? Do any other notable GW's employee's know of it and if so positive or negative?

The ronrey crowd, i tend to make friends with them to by utter dismay. On occasion I want to straggle them, especially when they chased out this stunning and (i hope) perfectly legal girl out of my store with their social retardation.

Yeah the 40k fantasy thing amazed me when i first found out, it's funny though as they seem to forget that, it's the main reason why they've made profit warnings this financial year as they thought that 8th edition would sell as well as 5th edition 40k. Doesn;t take a genius to work out that 8th should have sold 3x as less as 40k, apparently it does take a gw upper management team NOT to understand that...

As much as I like Warhammer, it makes no kind of business sense to take all the cash from the 40K franchise and invest it into models for a game that sells so much less product. Maybe they just need to a better job of selling it - better licensing deals, bigger promotion of Fantasy? Still, LoTR didn't seem to lack support, and the game tanked anyways after a few years. Anyways, do continue.

hmm policy, well there are thousands to choose from, but the one I think that would make the biggest impact is their total lack of regard of feedback. No matter where it comes from, from the internets, from customers or from staff. There seems to be this attitude where upper management believes that only they know how things work and that no one should question them. I mean they literally say that 'no one understands how the niche business works outside of us, that is why we're so successful because we don't listen to the naysayers outside, we listen to our experience with this company'. I think that might actually cause some immediate changes for a lot of things and would probably make it a much better place to work.

Mark Wells, want to kill the beast, cut off it's head, although the manager of bury i'd love to see die of eyeball cancer (fucking talk like that to me again and I'll kick you fucking teeth in, yes, even if it is over the phone.)

I remember hearing a while back that GW was determined to update every codex to 5th before 6th came out. Now that we know 6th will be here around summer of next year, it seems impossible that this will happen.

Do you have any insight on this?
    >> Wank Stain !6tccu/ViRM 03/25/11(Fri)01:56 No.14358392
    >>14358317
No insight, never actually heard anyone officially talk about that either. I can imagine that thats the idea, but i can see it as a possibility, but within reason. If you have a look at the codexs

    6th Edition Codex
    SM
    Blood Angels
    Space Wolves
    IG
    Tyranids
    Dark E
    Grey Knights

4th, but written with 5th in mind so basically 5th
    Orks
    Daemons of Chaos

So that leaves, Eldar, Tau, Necrons, Chaos SM, Sisters, Dark Angels, Black Templars.

Now Templars and Angels have had a massive faq update, making them basically 5th edition codex's without any need.

Eldar and Chaos SM although with many issues, still work and win.

Leaving actually only tau, necrons and sisters left. Which is easily doable in a year and 3/4 months. In fact you could probably throw in both eldar and Chaos into the mix and they'd be done by 6th edition.

Although that wouldn't be technically everything having been re done, it's virtually the same.

So, in keeping with my being a bitter and angry old bastard, I gotta ask this. Up at the Chicago battle bunker a few years back I went to go play a game of Fantasy in their store, and was told that because a lot of my Dwarf army isn't anywhere close to the new GW figs, that I couldn't use it. I got most of my stuff back in the late 80's and early 90's, so I've got things like Alric's lot and the like, any official rules on not being allowed to play with older miniatures in the stores?

Best/worst gaming experiance, Worst has got to be doing my 1 millionth intro game to some kid that is not understanding what is going on and probably was dropped at birth. Best any game i play where I actually suggest the game as opposed to get badgered into playing someone because they don't have an opponent.

Taking work based stuff out, best would have been drawing with this guy who i reckon is one of the greatest players on this planet.

Worst was playing this guy who threw all his toys out of his pram when i beat him and embarrassed me in front of my at the time girlfriend and now wife.

    >>14358413
I'm all about background, every army i play is due to their background or some BL book i just read, so for me it's 40K as i think it's THE best scifi setting ever. Although saying that the Lizardmen's fluff is VERY good, they were my first fantasy army actually back in 5th edition.

I'd probably say that fantasy is slightly more expensive due to the size of the armies and the amount of metal in almost every army, but the difference is pretty small and both systems have their expensive and cheap armies.

Lizardmen and very cool, don't get too in love with Steggs and cannons will ruin your day every game. Slann though are the tits, great rules, great models and great fluff, that goes for the entire army actually.

Nothing, they were flat out wrong. I can understand why they try these things on with people, with targets being shoved down our throats and jobs being lost you get to a point where you're tempted to push it with certain people, like guys with old models etc.

But they're still wrong, i actually really dig the old dwarf models, there's a guy at my store with a beautiful dwarf army made from all the old stuff and I love it, its a great example for people to see how the models you buy now aren;t going to go out of date, unlike you're x-box.

If that ever happens, do the following. "I would like to borrow your store phone to call head office to lodge a complaint about you as I know for a fact that isn't the policy of gw." He'll probably shit himself and backdown, otherwise call them, tell them that you came in for a friendly game and afterwards you were about to go buy yourself a new army, but after the way you've been treated perhaps you should save that money and try out hordes/warmachine. They'll applogise, you might get something and that guy will get pistol wipped.

A few weeks ago I was discussing this with a few other players at the local hobby shop. We all agreed that painted is always the way to go. But one of the players seemed to disapprove of paying some one else to paint an army.

Thats the sad thing to be honest, I used to enjoy my job. Sure it didn't pay well, and of course didn;'t you my degree at all, but i enjoyed bringing the hobby to people, getting people excited about it, running events/campaigns and shit. And without being arrogant, I'm good at it as I don't bullshit and people seem to trust me because of that.

Now though? They've made things so volatile work wise all the love and passion is gone. That why I'm off, going to go work in property. Souless but it pays well and at least I'll get my hobby back and perhaps buy the wife something sweet.

Playing with painted models is always best, but not always realistic. Some people go down the pay someone to paint your army route and some people go down the slowly paint your army whilst still playing with it even though it's not finished.

I subscribe to the later, but there is nothing wrong with getting someone to paint your army. Some people don't have the time to paint and play and some people don't have the skills to paint their armies to the standard they imagine in their head.

Nothing wrong with someone else painting your army for you. Not for me, but doesn't mean i disprove, wouldn't suck another dude's dick doesn't mean i don't understand elton john digging it though.

Only issue i have with people's armies is when they play with the same grey plastic/ undercoated army for ages without anything getting even the smallest bit complete.

Unfortunately yes we do have policies about specialist games and it's mostly a big fat no. It is left slightly up to the manager and of course he regional, so sometimes some stores might allow one particular specialist game to be played in a moderate amount. But that's few and far between, I always wanted to run BFG but got shot down several times by my regional.

Squats? Umm nothing really rules wise. I could see someone getting uppity about you pulling them out to play a game, but then again me and my regional did spend an hour chatting to some guy about converting the dwarf pastics with IG and SM stuff and then using either the SM codex or the IG codex to represent them.

Though there are rumours (this is from warseer, not from head office) about Demiurg turning up in the next Tau codex, so you could soon be playing with a squat esk army.

    >>14358683

”By the end of the next Olympics we will be treated to 6th ed Warhammer 40k”
Now that is something that people that follow GW trends have suspected for awhile. So really that is not that earth shattering. What makes 6thed potentially earth shattering is the version of AoBR we will get. For the first time in a long time neither Xenos nor the Warriors of Roboute Guilliman will be featured. Nor will the Sledgehammer of the Emperor be chosen to fill the starter box.

I kind of talked about this before, but I'll try and answer more specifically for the mechanicus. Game wise, read up for the stuff i said about new armies, but in terms of black library they do pop up a fair amount in quite major roles (titanicus, mechanicum, the first word bearer book,) but the problem with the mech boys is that they're quite hard to write from their perspective as it's fairly one dimensional. They're quite secluded.

Obviously thats all opinion and has the same validity as anyone else saying that. Sorry I couldn't give you more.

Smelly neckbeard people, again i might have answered this, but I just remain polite, helpful, if i feel they are upsetting people i politely put them in their place and most seem to respect that. Not had issues with that, had a couple of drunk guys come in the store and give one of my favourite customers shit and i lost my rag at them, flew off the handle and they left quite quickly. Perhaps due to the razor saw i still had in my hand as opposed to my amazing manly anger.

In answer to why would they just release them and then do nothing, because they do that alot, with lots of things, not just product. GW is very reactionary and run from one idea to the polar oppostite instead of taking an educated look at what went wrong and trying to rectify it.

    >>14358991

I was wondering if someone would ask, yes that's a very odd tale.

The first time i heard about him leaving was through warseer, it just wasn't talked about. So i poked about and found out lots of random stuff, not all of it makes sense so I'll just plop it on here.

At one point we all thought that Jervis Johnson had gone as well. Then suddenly nothing was said about him leaving and the conversations dropped, some said it was just a false rumour, others that he had threatened to leave as they were quite tight and that rick had convinced him not to.

Some still say rick was fired, like fire fired, but the official line from what most people say is that they just couldn't find him anything they and he both wanted him to work on and thus let him go. He does still have the option of free lance and that doesn't seem like something he's not planning on doing, but most said that GW couldn't justify his salary if no one could find him something to work on.

But i was also told that everyone involved with warhammer forge was confused as fuck as to why he left and didn't realize his work with them was only a kick off thing, not a permanent thing. Therefore some thought that they used him to promote warhammer forge, get people on board and then after they had used him finally decided to get rid of him.

No one wants to talk about it now and any questions on it are brushed off quickly

Naa thats mostly internet hype crap, i mean sure that might happen, but mostly the guy there will be very happy to have an adult to introduce or re introduce the hobby into. If you find he's being pushy or you're not sure he's being totally honest about his suggestions, just be honest yourself, tell him what you want from him, from the game, what you are prepaired to spend. Most of those pushy sales types are just nervous social rejects, having the boundries set for them relaxes them.

No, they exist. Unfortunately your codex was heavily dumbed down and the legion rules were all thrown out in favor of a more cult heavy army. Doesn't mean you can't play them still, just within the limiting confines of a subpar and flavorless codex.

That said, their current codex did make me get some berzerkers and paint them up as Iron Warriors, just so I could have continuity within the army.

When you said this, it reminded me actually of one person in particular, this guy is or at least was (been a while since the last national meeting). He's the manager of Covent Garden, Dave, litterally the coolest guy I've ever met, last year he was the most successful manager in the company. He's this very tall black guy with corn rows and he has lead a fucking intense life, he was a model and actor managed some very successful bars in London and he fucking LOVES blood angels, he made this sweet ass conversion of a storm raven using a landraider and a valk. So down to earth, so cool, and so into the hobby.

If you are ever in london, go to Covent Garden, his team are also pretty cool as well, when i first met him he was with his full timer who had just been promoted, justin/joseph or something, long haired young guy who was equally as cool to be honest.

So in other words, yes there are times to be embarassed, but actually there are a lot of solid dudes into this hobby of ours

I was going to try and do a word bearers army using Fabius Bile as the leader and getting all troops. I'm not entirely sure how well people would appreciate my ignoring the fluff about MOAR DAEMONS though.

But now I'm just going to convert them to my Iron Warriors army to fill that out and give me more models to practice painting. I also have an unfinished basilisk that I can't use so I may take that and my defiler and make something unholy.

Totally agree with what W.S. says about cool ass dudes being in the hobby, its not just 100% neckbeards. Yes of course there would be large fat men like people who would never let a slip of fluff go unpunished, nut there was plenty of cool bros to make up for it. One of the annoying things was they were kinda anal about models being painted sometimes cause "ZOMGS THE BRITISH ARE COMING".

Like they said, Iron Warriors still exist, if you like reading, read Storm of Iron, i think it's available digitaly on the BL website. Damn good book actually, but i digress.

The codex isn't bad, it's just bland, and if you're going for fluff heavy IW then you won't be AMAZINGLY competitive, but you do have a good excu

Yes, that is what I've been told, they just don't make enough money, they take time and space away from other systems that generate a lot more money. I don't agree we should remove them totally from the stores, but at the same time I wouldn;t want people taking up all my gaming tables playing specialist games. Retail is there to recruit and retain, and due to the nature of a specialist game it tends to not appeal to enough people.

He was amazing, really great, had a wonderful way with the kids, filled out his criminal record background check and had to be fired as they discovered that the name he gave them was actually one of many alliases he had as he was a convicted sex offender.

It's entirely up to him, official policy is that exactly with a heavy emphasis on trying to not let you play specialist games. If you want to play blood bowl down there, i'd suggest going in there and chatting to the manager and seeing if he would be up for you doing that. If you played it like you wanted to run a blood bowl tourny he might be more down for that as it's a free event he doesn't have to organise and hopefully people will spend some cash on taking part in it. But it would be a limited time thing, i doubt he'd let you come in whenever you want to play. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

It has less to do with the game its self and more on how the company interacts with the players.
Mark Rosewater, Head Designer writes an article on their main page EVERY WEEK and reads most, if not all of the comments his articles get, on top of reading every email he gets. He even mentions note worthy emails in his articles.
They take data directly from their website polls and that has an impact on sets. Yes, they do put out ALOT of cards, but the rules are more/less unchanged since Alpha/Beta i.e, the cards never really get outdated if you want to play with them.

The most popular format is the last 2 year worth of cards, so yeah I see what you are saying, but older cards like the Power 9 keep going up and up in price because the demand is so high.

Also, the players know what is coming out very clearly almost a whole year before it comes out. (in most cases)

White dwarf is a dissapointment, oddly around a year ago, white dwarf had been pretty damn good and had been for a good year or so, but now it's slumped back again.

I met up with the woman who heads the WD team back in June at the conference along with everyone else mind you, and she gave this very passionate talk about WD and getting back to the good old days, making it a collectors item as well as a hobby tool etc. Really got me excited actually about it, and then...nothing, just another slow decline.

Disappointing, perhaps it's just that they don't know what they want from it, though i do have to say the GW website DOES have a lot of cool stuff on it article wise and although yes it tries to sell to you I've found some cool ass shit on there. Personally my interest in 40k whfb comes from a mixture of nostalgia (it was what me and my father bonded over) and my love of the background, so I'm not really interested in other game systems because of that. I have a good group of mates who are more interested and from what Ive seen of infinity and secrets of the theird reich as well as flames of war all look interesting and pretty damn cool.

For some reason PP doesn't do it for me, perhaps because the first people i met who did it where twats or perhaps its due to the billions of threads made my moronic people saying GW IS GOING BANKRUPT LETS ALL PLAY HORDES. But yeah, models look pretty cool, but nope nothing.

Mantic...hate them, models firstly are crap, sorry i think they're really bad, and the people that run them are all ex gw so not only are they exactly as bad as those that still work at gw but they have a total martyr syndrome.

But, saying all that, none of the models hold a candle to the stuff GW makes. Now if you've read what I've said in this rather long thread, you'll probably notice I'm not a gw fanboy, so please don't scream at me when i say this.

GW makes the best miniatures in the world, hands down, nothing comes close. Yes thats because we're older, got more money, more experience, but our models still kick everything elses ass.

    I've a question mister Stain -

Eldar. Will they become the punching bags of the universe because the other factions would look worthless otherwise, or will they get snuffed out, or will they be actually improved upon?

You've already sort of mentioned this, but what sort of changes are the Necrons going to get specifically, if you know at all? 5e Necrons seem to be going to the "it's about Necrons, not the C'Tan" route. It's been suggested too that they're making new models for the C'Tan that'll be in Apoc and the old ones will be the transformation option the Lords get.

Overall, seems like they're pushing to give players more roleplaying options and fixing some of the fluff to not be so C'Tan-centric. Probably won't see any boob robots like you see in fanart, but you know.

Hey Wank Stain been reading the thread nice information.

When is someone going to gut cs goto with a salad fork like he deserves for all his serious fetish wankery in the books he writes?

Also What the hell is it with people writing codices that makes them decide that they HAVE to have the latest flavor of the month codex "fluff" have some jerkwad or other all of a sudden wreck an Avatar in close combat or army destroy an Eldar craftworld?

This is getting old seeing the Eldar being the whipping boys of whatever new army is coming out.

I took the liberty of archiving this. The last time I tagged was a year ago, so I'm sorry if the tags are off.
