Ship gets overrun by warp cretures / daemons., usually killing everything on board and might get lost in Warp.
There are exceptions, however - Word Bearers travel with Gellar Field turned off to show they truly are one with Chaos.

Attention, this is your captain speaking. Though there was a slight malfunction with one of the Geller Field generators, the Mechanicus operatives on board have completely restored it to operating order. The turbulence you just felt was merely a side affect of the reinitialization process and is nothing to worry about; nor should you concern yourself with the sounds coming from cargo holds 3 and 5 or the engine room. Everything is fine and all ship board facilities are running well within operational limits.

By the way, if you happen to know how to reach the Grey Knights, please come to the bridge immediately.

Well, this causes all theentities around to manifest in your now unveiled blip of realspace.
Also the raw tides of energy flow freely through the vessel.

    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)18:55 No.14409506
Yeah on the "what happens if the field fails" it kinda depends what's outside at the time.

Larger predator entities might just shred the ship instantly and take the souls.

Smaller entities might manifest on the ship in different ways, and may slip onto the ship while the field is failing to try and get in before a larger entity can.

Then you have the entities which aren't just animalistic but have intelligence and reflections of emotions...those can be the worst or the best.

Maybe they just play a joke and throw you millions of years into the past or future, or lightyears off course.
Technically the best you can hope for if the fields collapse.

On they other hand they might take you as play things or a science experiment, that's when things are probably going to get REALLLY Event Horizon.

That's my take on it at least, of course the great thing about the warp is that everyones take on it is accurate cause anything could happen.

The waaagh handles the rest...or presumably Gork/Mork bitchslap any demon stupid enough to try and interfere. It's not perfect though - sometime smaller demons get onboard the ship...although the orks just count that as inflight entertainment.

It'd be painstaking trying to hexagrammatically ward an entire prow. I mean, just given how long it takes to ward a single weapon or suit of armor, and how difficult it is, you might spend half a century warding the damn thing only to find out that you missed a stroke two decades ago and now everything's worthless.

What makes it even worse is that no-one outside the Inquisition is supposed to know about hexagrammatic wards, and they don't take too kindly to people pinching their secrets. All that said, a hexagrammatically warded ship would probably have just about the safest, most comfortable warp-ride in the galaxy.

Hexagrammic wards protect against psychic energy, and are used defensively. Pentagramatic wards, on the other hand, ward against warp beings specifically, and can be used in two ways: as a barrier that keeps the being out (or in), or offensively as a weapon. Hexagramatic wards deal no harm, they only protect. Pentagramatic wards make for limited protection, but they can be used as a weapon.

Then smother every single component, from the smallest screw to the largest armor plate, in wards of both kinds, over the course of centuries or even Millenia, consuming the entire supply of silver from several planets. Then I, or more likely my descendent, shall crew it with a crew of Nulls and Untouchables, who have been specially breed in the thousands for this one task during the time that work has been progressing on the ship, and indoctrinated completely and utterly in the Imperial Faith (at least enough to give them all the Pure Faith talent and some other stuff along that line) and stock the holds with decades worth of supplies. Daemon Trap does exactly what it says on the tin. Seal of Purity is a special Aquila that keeps daemons, creatures with Psy Rating 3 or greater, and things with 20 or more Corruption Points from attempting to approach it.

Interesting concept. Would it be worthwhile to take one of those ships that attracts Chaos like a Murder or Repulsive? Presumably having about 50% of its weight made up of Warpbane Hull would protect the crew from the effects, but it might lure daemons onto the wards, destroying the foul beasts.

To be honest, building a voidship from scratch would be faster then taking an existing warship, taking it apart, warding it, and putting it back together. A custom ship could say, be built to transform into a ten kilometer tall robotic figure of the Emperor, wearing a Aquila Sombero, and Aquila Sunglasses. And it can take the sunglasses off, and throw them like a frigate sized boomerang. And the eyes of the Eagles are actually Lance Cannons.

    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)22:31 No.14411309
Ok so we've got the ship that our Great Great Great Grandfather had commissioned with the aid of several radical Inquisitors, as well as background Eldar assistance. We have the products of his crazed breeding program, which either produced a loyal and faithful crew of either a ton of mind cleansed wannabe Saints, or a ton of Untouchables, depending on who you ask. The ship has been blessed hundreds of times over the centuries by five different Ecclesiarchs, has had protective wards and runes engraved over every portion of its hull, every bulkhead, and every component, to the point where its mass is approximately 50% engraving. It's been stocked up with enough food to sustain its crew for a century. It employs the revolutionary new "FIRE EVERYTHING" tactic to drive daemons away from it in the warp. The entirety of the Grey Knights Chapter and a sizable number of Sisters of Battle have been lured onboard, via the suggestion that either Daemons or Heretics are hiding onboard, and trapped in different locations to prevent one side from making a bloody sacrifice of the other on some altar to the emperor. Rumor even has it that the ship can transform into a giant statue of the Emperor, in order to better wrestle with each Ruinous Power after ramming them. Only two questions remain.

What do we name this vessel? And which god do we fuck over first?
