You are Melane Kiried. You have just finished your breakfast with Cagrazod, a marteau (A metal gargoyle) who answered a few questions you had about the gargoyles who were based off of the element of wind, Ornithopters. They are somewhat elusive, from what he says. Regardless, you got quite a bit of good information from him.

You have made some progress on perfecting the spell Alkenin uses, but you may need to do more research or take a few educated risks to channel the power properly. You have three more days, counting today, before meeting with Kresis.

    What will you do?
    >> Sasha !ApPkmtJbAE 04/04/11(Mon)22:11 No.14476640

    >>14476667

Vampire gargoyles with natural iron armor...interesting. I can see why running water would stop them, but try a stake or garlic and you're fucked.

OK, first things first: what is the spell that we're trying to figure out? Details, OP, details!
    >> VKO !qw2cdBTZAc 04/04/11(Mon)22:24 No.14476766
The marteau can ingest organic materials to fuel their bodies. Basically, they work like a furnace, with little need for nutrition. Ingesting any water for them is a bad idea, but most of it just drifts back up as steam, so potions and the lot are alright.

Drinking blood would be a bad plan, aside from the high iron content.

The spell you are trying to reproduce is called Dominion's Wrath, a spell that uses the constellation Dominion as a mirror to reveal the image of a terrible creature from beyond time and space, allowing you to pull all of the memories and personality out of a person, reducing them to a drooling husk. This is harder to do because Dominion died 300 years ago.

You go back to your wagon, checking through your notes. You have reached an end in your research. You can either try to find some other options through more research, or try to focus power into Dominion's Memory to emulate him for long enough to cast the spell.

it'd probably be best to take the patient route with this and research more before trying to power it up. Dominion's Memory is far too important of an item to risk, not even thinking of the possible side-effects of spell failure.

Alright. You pour through your books, coming up with a bit of theory by the end of the day. Perhaps Alkenin, your ancestor who you can experience life through, had done something similar. One's Auspice can be a source of power, and you have already developed a spell much like the one you try to emulate now. Perhaps you could use your auspice's power, plus that of the orb, to accomplish something.

However, such a thing would be exhausting for anyone. Much of the day has gone by already, and you eat a quick dinner. What else would you like to do?
    >> Anonymous 04/04/11(Mon)23:36 No.14477528

Sleep. Alternatively, try putting our Auspice into the orb before sleep.

You try putting the Auspice in the orb before you retire. There is no result. Perhaps the energy was in the wrong form? Ah well, nothing to get hung up over. You fall right asleep shortly afterwards, depositing the orb nearby.

You find yourself in a black space with little light. Soon, you realize you are floating in a space much like the Shadow Plane, and that a humongous black orb sits at one side of your vision. An emotionless voice rings out in your head.

MELANE KIRIED, WHY DO YOU WISH TO CONTACT ME?

YES. A STRONG ARTILLERY PRESENCE IS NECESSARY. ARCHERS IN PARTICULAR ARE A GOOD CHOICE. DEPENDS ON THE BUILD OF THE DRAGON IN QUESTION. QUICK ONES IT IS BEST TO MEET WITH A STRONG FORCE IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE. HEAVY ONES IT IS BEST TO TRAP WITH ANY THEY ARE TRYING TO PROTECT. STRONG ONES IT IS BEST TO WEAR DOWN SLOWLY WITH EXPENDABLE TROOPS.

DRAGONHIDE HAS NATURALLY REFRACTIVE PROPERTIES WHEN CONFRONTED WITH MAGIC. THEIR INTERNAL STRUCTURE PRODUCES A GREAT AMOUNT OF MAGIC AS WELL, ALLOWING THEM TO KEEP THE SAME EFFECTIVE RESISTANCE. IN GENERAL, ENGAGING WITH SUBPAR MAGES IS NOT RECOMMENDED. YOU WOULD STAND A DECENT CHANCE AGAINST ANY AGE OF DRAGON, I SUSPECT. JUST MAKE SURE TO PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST THEIR BREATH WEAPONS. "It is within the bounds of the training I received in Sacrasmar, under the Tengu. Sometimes while I meditate, they some to me and speak half-formed syllables and truths. "I might, if you wish it. It is my chosen profession." He says, grinning. "I might travel there through the shadows, look upon him myself. Should I leave now, I would be back at the next night. The shades can sometimes be unreliable, I fear. And false tellings can be far worse than no tellings at all."

    Up up and away!

Send him off. Unless he's got business to attend to here before hand (like the healing thing?) he's going to be way more useful spying on Kresis for us.

Oh no, you can't see a spine out of place. That was a few days ago, though...

"Did your missing spines regrow alright?" You ask.

"I appreciate your concern, Melane Kiried. They regrew after a few minutes of light bathing." He says, indicating two on his leg that look no different from the others. "It would not have impeded my abilities, but the pain from it was most irritating."

"Well, then yes, I would like you to observe Kresis for me." You say.

Orpheus bows. "As is your wish, Melane Kiried." He steps into his shadow, and the two disappear quite suddenly.

Alright, that's it for now. I'll be back on wednesday, going to not run on fridays for any quest because of finals.
