So, I'm a bit late to the party and all, but ... Ad Eva? I admit I do not understand.

As in Evangellion but in 40k? Why? That show was tedious as shit and pretty much every main character needed to be punched in the mouth.

Sorry. Have some IRL things going on here too and wanted advice for happier times in the future.
I feel like an ass and should have accepted the threadjack.
I was in an AdEva game for a long time, but was kicked for not showing up for games.
Wasn't my fault I was in a car accident and my girlfriend refused to go on IRC and inform people that I was in the hospital for weeks, nearly in a coma. And I'm too ashamed to show my own face (ha) there because I've missed games before and it looks like just another excuse

AdEva is Evangelion using DH rules. An original /tg/ production, though most of the dev. team have moved off to their own IRC channel now.

You don't have to play the characters from the show in fact you can play it more like TTGL, but RP elements are more than just encouraged. If you don't like it kindly move along

No. It's an Evangelion game based on Dark Heresy's rules.

If it doesn't appeal to you, nobody's forcing you to play it. Since the GM is free to make whatever kind of game he wants, it can be very different from the show.

Visual or character? I've got plenty of each.

    >>14576832

Because some people want to play a game where you're an indoctrinated child soldier floating in a tank full of psychoactive amniotic fluid stolen from a god's wounds rammed into the back of an undead cyborg with the soul of someone close to you trapped inside it and going steadily more insane while fighting nigh-unkillable abominations who alter local physics simply by existing and who are trying to revive a god that sees humanity in the same way you see termites on your foundations.

    >>14576824

As logn as everybody ends up disappointed or brutally slaughtered, this is entirely within the scope of the game. In fact, I think most of the really good games end up more character interaction and political machinations than actual combat. The game's pretty much the anti-D&D.

I mentioned this idea in an earlier thread, but:

In a post Angel world still struggling to recover from the Second Impact and the War with Heaven humanity's greatest weapons the Evangelions have been lost to the UN.

Some were stolen by terrorists and extremists, others are controlled by rogue nations that once aided in their creation, or just up and left alongside their world weary pilots. In secret remote areas attempts at replicating the Eva project using corrupted and incomplete data have let loose Evangelions in their feral state, and in other places the spawn of the Angels themselves still survive to wreak havoc.

With the UNs few remaining Eva units held back as a defensive measure against possible Eva attacks there is only one group that can contain the threats that are the Eva series. They are The Pilots of Steel.

Cry havoc, and let slip the mechs of war.

So yeah, TridenT pilots vs rogue/feral/traitorous Evangelions after the Angels and SEELE have been defeated.

Hey, I'm the guy from the last thread with the Space-Opera Ad:Eva game.

I altered some of the space combat rules, Berzerking, weapon upgrade distribution, Time Management, and modified the AT Technician career to have two paths, then set it in a universe half inspired by Xenosaga and half by Rogue Trader, and am pretty much letting my players run wild.

For those who didn't catch it before, I have:

An average everyday kinda girl from a modern-tech level planet who gets thrust into the cockpit before she even knows what she's doing. A "Black Mage" style ATT.

A woobie manufactured girl who was rejected from an espionage program after it became apparent she lacked the emotional fortitude for the job. Was about to be recycled until they found out she could synch with an Eva and she was sold to Nerv. Her only friend in the world is a sour-faced, walleyed goldfish modeled off of Mr. Fish from The Punchline is Machismo. A "White Mage" with some homebrewed healing and support AT powers.

A spoiled rotten rich girl trained from birth to pilot Evangelions. Carries a cavalry sabre, and presumably a chip on her shoulder. Melee Skirmisher Master Race.

A former captain of a sublight trading ship who, in a tax-dodge scheme gone wrong, froze himself for way longer than the cryo stasis was supposed to work. Rebuild with cybernetics and old automobile parts, he now pilots a giant mass of guns, with an Eva, presumably, buried somewhere inside it.

An OD based on Hedonism Bot.

Must have been some pretty serious extremists, if they managed to acquire EVA carriers, bypass all those ludicrous security measures, and actually load the Evangelions onto them and leave without being horribly maimed or killed in various ways.

You'd have problems there. Mainly the part where it's a multi-billion-dollar investment yearly to keep an EVA running, AFTER you've spent some thirty billion dollars on the basic minimal infrastructure. Also, the EVAs are unreliable enough at the best of times, which makes them really, really hard to steal.

That said, you might really like one of the expansion books that'll come out after Master Edition. It's World War Evangelion, and it covers what happens after the Adam situation is resolved. With the Evangelions basically having the most useful characteristics of both conventional forces and WMDs, the four major powers of the world end up in a Cold War scenario, except everyone has mystical supertech and their own style to how they fight. It has a lot more scope for actual military operations using Evangelions, and a much wider range of pilotable gear that isn't EVAs.

He's fat, unabashedly omnisexual, addicted to every substance that future-mankind can produce, and went to great expenses to deck out the huge dreadnought that comprises Nerv's mobile headquarters with unbelievable luxuries. I'm talking solid gold chandeliers the size of football fields and mansion-sized living quarters for the pilots, complete with hot tubs and a small wildlife park.

He enjoys acting as creepy as possible while forcing the Bridge Bunnies to fan him with palm leaves and drizzle him with syrup.

Oh, if you're after ship combat, construction, snd operation rules, I have a lot of handy stuff from the draft of Hunt for Adam, which will involve a flying supership ranging from the size of a battleship to the size of the Hong Kong CBD. A warning, though - I wrote this before Rogue Trader even existed, so it will probably be really weird to use, and I also am no good at balancing costs out.

    >>14576985

Sure. Keep in mind, these aren't actually complete yet. We begin play in a couple of weeks.

Altered rules for Adeptus Evangelion: Ad Astra are as follows:

Berserker's "Chance to Berserk" talents become additional berserk conditions. If a condition comes up you choose to berserk or not. There is no "Attack Allies" chance.

AT Technicians may purchase AT powers for 100 exp rather than 200, and directly add their willpower bonus to any successful attacks using AT powers.

Weapon Upgrade Points (WUP’s) may be shared freely between players, and the WUP cost of any weapon is completely refunded upon it’s recycling.

Attempting a Time Management activity results in one success toward your total. Success is worth another point.

Any changes not directly stated are assumed to follow V2's rules until it is stated otherwise.

Lay it on me man, I'd love some input for that.
    Additional rules I've written up:

Letter-type equipment has been completely revamped. A-type equipment is now the default that every Eva comes with. It's designed for operation in space, where most Angels have been found. B-type is your standard everyday run-around-on-the-ground type thing, C-type is for water worlds, gas giants, and other fluid atmospheres, D-type for Venusian pressure-cookers, and E-type is for hyperspace combat.

I hear no one speaking up, so I'll go ahead and throw out a few ideas I had.

Extra weapon hardmounts: Second Branch has an optional upgrade where your Evangelion can get extra "Wings" on each forearm. I like the idea, but felt it didn't go far enough. Now you can buy one for each limb and two from your back.

Multi-weapons: A Maser rifle which, for a half action, you can change the trait from Reliable to either Accurate or Scatter.

No positron tech. Positron weapons were incredibly silly and overpowered. Players can make do with plasma to fill the "High damage and penetration; low ammo capacity" niche.

Manufactured are common as underclass-laborers, tailor made for certain roles and occupying a position in society somewhere between people and property.

    A new background, the "Reclaimed."

Flash-frozen sea captain is one of these. Based them on Ziggy from Xenosaga.

Enhanced Deployment Options: Drop pods. Evangelion-scale drop pods everywhere.
    >> Anonymous 04/13/11(Wed)04:17 No.14577411
    >>14577328

How do ranged people deal with angels then? No positron means no way for ranged specialists to hurt an angel 90% of the time.

Yes, you can. Energy is energy is energy. It doesn't matter how it is introduced into a system, only how quickly. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason a society that can focus 180 Gigawatts through a particle cannon could not do the same through a rail gun.

Because Railguns have more mechanical components with more means of failure, and when you get up to the ALL MY WATTS level of power, having any moving parts at all is risky. A positron weapon is, excepting the mechanism that rotates out the fuse each shot, completely solid-state.

Also, antiparticles work somewhat differently in the EVA world. Don't know why, or to what extent, but they do things that shouldn't be done with strict force.

    Just... answer me this.

Why would you call it an AT field if it is completely indistinguishable from any number of generic sci fi energy shields?

Why would you go on and on about the complicated metaphysics of AT fields... when they are in actually just shields that can be overcome with sufficient force?

Why would you come up with this complicated analogy for the rejection of others... and make it into a deflector shield, completely ignoring all the ramifications of what taking a metaphorical "Barrier" between yourself and others and making it literal would have?

If you want to play a "Humanity: FUCK YEAH!" game, I can point you to some better settings than Evangelion.

My current game has been nicknamed "Brighteva" by my players, not because it's mood is overly happy, and in fact, it's pretty damn gruesome at times. No, it's Brighteva because it isn't actually clear whether they will survive or not. Which means that there is a CHANCE they will win.

Evangelion is a world where the existence even an opportunity for victory is seen as uncharacteristically optimistic.

If you were using Ad:Eva to run a game based on Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, great. That sounds like a fun idea.

But you have to admit, doing it like that would require you to alter the setting a hell of a lot more than "AT Fields as God-Bubbles" would.

Actually, if you look at it, an AT field is just kind of like a forcefield. There's nothing to say anything otherwise.

It even states that all humans have an AT field, and that's their sense of self, what keeps them distinct and apart from others. The 'wall in their heart' is more distinct in more powerful forms. Thus, Angels and clones of angels (EVA units) have physically manifested AT fields. It's been shown that a powerful enough weapon, such as an N2 mine can break an AT field, so a much more powerful weapon that uses the entire nation's powersupply could do much the same obviously. The reason most things come down to using close range weapons is because EVAs have their own AT fields and can counter AT fields.

They're also as large as angels, or nearly as large, so having a solid monomolecular or osculating 'progressive knife' makes stabbing their core that much simpler.

Obviously the weapons they have that use chemical combustion, like the rifles and even the minigun aren't as strong at piercing AT fields, and one can assume that proximity means they're that much weaker.

It seems as though the further an EVA is from its humanity, the stronger it becomes. When they go berserk, they can rip through a field with relative ease. When Unit 02 becomes 'the beast' it can rip apart the AT field of an angel whose name means 'The Fighter' (To paraphrase). And, of course, when Unit 01 has its apotheosis, it can create permanent physical manifestations from its AT field, effortlessly shatter a lesser being's AT field, and become an energy condenser that can threaten all of existence, until it's pierced by an ancient weapon, the only one in existence that's known to break even the strongest Absolute field.

Also, does AT stand for absolute terror, or absolute territory?

All angels except those not intended for front-line combat should have at least 100 SR.

There will be those with less, but those are special enemies that attack in other ways than simply rushing at you with lasers and claws, and thus they would never fight the conventional military.

The V2 manual insists that it's "Absolute Territory."

And yes, humans have AT fields, it's just that their effective ATS is somewhere between 0 and 1, heavily favoring the low end of that scale.

Weaker angels have weaker AT fields. For some, they're barely enough to maintain their physically impossible forms within a universe who's laws of physics dictate that they cannot exist. These are easy to disrupt enough to kill.

But once you get up past 10 ATS, the Angels should be impossible to strike at, because the weapons of mankind rely upon the laws of physics of the universe to work, and an Angel that strong can just shut those laws off like a lightswitch.

The V2 manual took that term (and some other things) from Shinji and 40k.

In canon, there are at least two explanations for the phrase. First, Ritsuko says (probably not in the show itself) that the first reaction upon encountering an Angel's AT Field is absolute terror. Second, forcibly breaching an AT Field induces this feeling. As in EoE, where Shigeru's field is battered down by Lilith.

ODs now fragment into military, science, and political. The Military OD gets options. LOTS of options. Science gets a few superweapons too.

But the best part is that all ODs get a talent that is basically 'defeat an Angel automatically at whatever heinously oppressive cost the GM wants'. It was the inevitable outcome of all the batshit-insane plans everyone came up with. I still like the fact that I almost got a group to actually use a plan that involved 108 N2 mines in concentric rings slaved to an auto-resetting countdown timer with a time of double the slowest possible electron speed in the reset switch. That Angel was a particular time-traveling bastard.

Berserker is changing and getting some really exciting new abominations at higher levels. They are also getting some things to be slightly less dependant on Berserk at lower levels, but at the end it's hard to balance something like that out so it's both the defining element of an entire class and a notable feature of all EVAs.

ATTs are changing substantially in terms of their powers, and get new high-end powers that require teamwork to pull off. The most substantial one is the next best thing to your own personal Third Impact. General AT changes as well.

Weapons are different too, and they have custom weapons orders too, I don't like the custom system as much, because I can't use it to build a Bullgut, but that's about the only thing you can't build with it.

    >>14578444

And EVAs get better things because they are the fundamental unit of the game. IT makes modest sense from the setting too, as there's no guarantee the base will ever be attacked, whereas the EVAs will always be instrumental in every single conflict.

But if you want to make EVAs redundant in true style, you'll have to wait for Hunt for Adam. If you have a thousand or so surplus and the highest level of advances, you can basically build Space Battleship Yamato.
    >> Dr. Baron von Evilsatan 04/13/11(Wed)07:47 No.14578573
    >>14578530

They're still not the damage-dealers, but they now are actually capable of doing more things. They're more the buff-debuff role than an actual hurter, but they can do proper damage once they start getting to the high levels. Before the high levels, everyone is pretty much reliant on gear, anyway.

    >>14578537

Yes, they're more relevant in the actual Angel combat now, by a marked degree. What they actually do there depends on their specialty, and how much they can do does too. A military OD can generate enough force that it is possible, albeit unlikely, that they can bring down an angel without EVAs. Science ODs do buffs and mostly long-term help, but can still interven with experimental technobabble weapons. Political ODs don't do that much more than ODs do now, which is not really unexpected.

Hunt for Adam is a surface-based campaign, but two of the Superweapon upgrades in conjunction can give your absurdly-massive supership the capacity to fly into space. One Superweapon gives you the ability to overload your AT field for temporary invincibility, and another gives you a main gun so powerful it takes an S2 organ or detonating an N2 mine to fire it and kills any unprotected person within a kilometre of the beam's path from radiation poisoning. I had a lot of fun with the Superweapon upgrades.

More conventionally, you can buy weapons (ALL the weapons), close-defense weapons and ramming blades, SO MUCH armour, mobility upgrades to both speed and turn, things to carry soldiers, aircraft, boats, and tanks, and to improve them, a shitload of scientific research things that you will need to do anything fun, things like mess halls and officer training schools to improve your ship's stats, and, for people who aren't megalomaniacal maniac ODs, things that you can use to make your EVAs more better and launch further.

The biggest thing about the ship is that it is fucking tough as balls. The weakest possible everything one, the tiny naked ship, takes a few turns of beating to kill. The best possible has something like twelve different parts to allocate to, eight wounds per part, 8 permanent and 6 ablative AP per part, 12 AP to allocate as you like each turn, and its core, the only thing you can blow up to ever kill the fucking thing, can never be hit on better than 15% allocation, even if every other part is destroyed. To make things even out, if the core DOES give way and permanently destroys your ship, it will in all likelihood be an event of biblical proportions.

Realistically, few people will take full advantage opf how big a ship can get, because of just how visibly useful the EVAs are, but I just love options. And technically, the OD is the ranking officer on ship, and can choose how the surplus gets spent...

If you take all the upgrades to ramming, you can do some serious damage to everything. On the other hand, even if you have all the upgrades, ramming is going to hurt you very, very badly. And if you DON'T have the upgrades, you'll probably cripple your ship outright and look like a douche.

Also, if you take the gigantic energy blade prow, you can't take any of the really powerful guns, because they're all spine-mounted.

Technically, you choose your ship and keep that one all game. If you do change to a bigger hull, it is going to beh heinously expensive, as you can't transfer any of the facilities from one to the other. But you can do it, just like you can build ancillary ships, if your GM thinks it's fine. It's not explicitly allowed, because there's a point when the game turns into something it wasn't meant to be.

And if you DO go for all these upgrades, you will spend all the surplus you ever earn and then some. Also, you need to get your own research, which can either be slow and modeslty expensive, decently fast and heinously expensive, heinousyl expensive and slow and safe, or MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE which is expensive and has a good chance of incurring some cataclysmic fuckups. Be warned - if you get the worst possible result for a science fuckup, it will be slightly WORSE than Third Impact.

You -can- do these things, but you will be dependant on the EVAs for the first third to half the game. Upgrades are expensive and research-dependant, and fast research is expensive and upgrade-dependant. Unless your GM is willing to gimp the shit out of your first five or six Angels, you will not earn the surplus to ever begin improving.

By the time the endgame approaches, though, you can go nuts. You'll have to. Every game of Hunt for Adam ends with you fighting Adam. The difference your campaign results get will say whether he's weakened, at full strength or alone, or at full strength and backed by multiple Apocalyptic-class Angels. HfA starts at standard AdEva speed, but ends up at a very big place by the end of it.

Right then, I vote that it uses its AT field to shoot its laser then. Leaving it vulnerable. Makes perfect sense to me.

In ReBuild its AT field is mentioned to be "unstable" and "constantly changing". Basically confirming that the visible part of the angel (aside from its core) is the AT field itself. Which also makes sense considering the spatial impossibilities its form creates.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. In Rebuild, however, it's AT Field is up both times the great positron cannon is shot. You can see the beam shatter it twice (first time at roughly 1:28.05). As far as I understand the show, an angel's power is roughly infinite, but its ability to bring this power to bear is finite / requires time. The great positron cannon put so much energy in one spot so fast that the AT Field couldn't keep up.

“I’m Kaworu.” Kaworu said. “All of him.”

    “Huh?”

“The Kaworu you know is a four dimensional reflection of me, existing in a form compatible with lilin consciousness. The Angels exist wholly in a dimension beyond human consciousness, what you would know as the Sixth Dimension. Metaphysics calls it the Room of Gauf.”

    Again “Huh?”

The world disappeared. Kaworu held up a piece of paper and drew a dot on it.

“This is a point. It has no height, no width , depth or concept of time. It just is.”

    “Right, right.” I got it.

“ Now… add a second point. “ he drew another dot, “And fill in the line between them. That line between points is the first dimension. It has length… and only length.”

“The X direction. Right? “ I see where this is going, “With Y and Z as the second and third dimensions, and the Fourth being time.”

“Yes,” he smiled at me, “But for now lets just stay in two dimensions. Imagine somebody who lives solely in the second dimension. They have length and width, but no height… this stick figure”… he drew a simple humanoid shape. “If he were to encounter a 3 dimensional object, what would he see?”

“Slices in two dimensions as the object transects his home plane.”

“Yes. And if he were to move anywhere? “

“He cold only move along an X’Y plane.”

“He would also move forward in time as he did so. Now, what happens if we fold his two-dimensional plane in the third dimension like so,” He twisted the paper once, then took both ends so they joined up. “Now watch. Imagine the two dimensional man walking along this path.” He drew a line starting at the split…

“It’s a moebius strip.” I said, “He can move in the second dimension and never reverse his direction, but still end up back where he started, because he’s been moved in a third dimension, and isn’t aware of it. ”

“Precisely. ” He smiled… perhaps a little surprise. “Now look up,”

I saw him and myself. A dark haired girl who just looked like she realised something profound, standing beside another Kaworu

    “What the?”

    “So you understand?” alt-Kaworu said.

    “I do,” alt-me answered. “But that’s just…weird.” She shuddered.

“Follow me,” the Kaworu beside me directed, tugging me gently by the shoulder. I think I knew where this was going…

“Imagine what would happen then to those who can only perceive in four dimensions, moving forward in their own dimension, who’s path is then moved within the Fifth Dimension. They themselves will not be aware of it. To them, all they see is the snapshot of the Fourth Dimension which transects the planes of the Third Dimension they interact with… the ‘now’. Now would they notice if the Fourth dimension were looped back in it’s own moebius strip? As creatures they could keep moving forward, but still end up at the same startpoint over and over again.”

I had a horrible feeling about where this was going.

“On a larger scale, this is what happens to the world. Each Third Impact is like the tape binding the moebius strip together in time. It’s a crash in the universe triggered by the sudden absence a recurrence of sapient awareness. Those living on the strip can’t tell this is happening, they just feel themselves moving forwards, even though they may be treading over the same basic territory.”

The flaw was obvious, “But I remember seeing myself in the future…” err.. “Past. Whatever?”

“Yes, you do. Because you retain your self awareness throughout the entire trip. Memory is a nice trick of the lilin, where your current state is also made up of function of your previous states. It allows you to perceive the existence of a 4th dimension, though you cannot directly affect it.”

“So,” I latched onto the obvious flaw, “Why don’t we realise that we’re looping? I’m going to meet myself at the end of this, and remember I met myself early, am I right?”

Nagisa nodded. “Third Impact doesn’t just destroy the lilin. The end of each cycle destroys the evidence that it ever existed in the first place, while laying the foundations for the next to begin.”
    >> Anonymous 04/13/11(Wed)11:35 No.14580156

Ends with the Third… begins with the two. Third Impact, and Shinji and Asuka on the beach doing an Adam and Eve. A little more thought on the whole creation myth and suddenly the expulsion from paradise began to make a lot more sense.

The juice left over from Third Impact was an Eden… and the desire for knowledge, the desire to have a self which could understand right or wrong, led to the expulsion from Eden.

    I think…

“Now look up,” a familiar voice said from straight infront of me.

I turned my head, and saw the expression on my own face from a few moments ago. Or right now… or … whatever.

“So now you understand?” Kaworu beside me asked.

“I do,” I said… then remembered myself saying the exact same words a few minutes before and shuddered as a few sanity points fluttered away on the wind “But that’s just weird,”

“Follow me,” the Kaworu beside her directed, tugging her gently by the shoulder. I think I knew where she was going…

But didn’t we already go there? And then they’d come around and see the exact same thing, and another cycle would start over…. And… my head started to hurt.

“Okay… I understand that we’re looping around in a cycle. But how do we break the cycle?”

“A system will continue in motion unless an external force acts upon it.” he repeated something I remember him saying “By knowing it exists, we can try find a route that steps off.”

He turned left and I followed him.

    “So then… why me?”

“Because I am an Angel” As if that explained everything. “Lets go back to our dimensions. Think of yourself and all the three dimensions you exist in, squished down to a point. Then, think of yourself in ten minutes time, in a different position. Another point. And the line between them would be the Fourth dimension of time. For a being that perceived time above Four dimensions, that’s what you’d look like… a long, amorphous thread, extending from when you came into existence, to when the thread is cut.”

“Timeline?” For some reason , I started to think of reality in terms of derivatives. I perceive a snapshot of the Fourth Dimension delta-t in length, then the Fourth dimension is sort of the integral of the third.

“Lifeline. Everything that you are, where and will be, simultaneously. You are birth, life and death all laid out in the one space. Everything that you are and will be.”

    I looked at him fearfully,

    “You can see the future,”

“Possibilities.” He said. “That change with every action or thought or decision made by the lilin. I can see you dieing. I can see you living. All along the one lifeline. Decisions made act as branches along the line, forming new lines. These tangle with the lifelines of others out there, forming the tapestry of life. The Fifth Dimension is the summation of all possible lifelines originating from the origin of the universe. The Fifth Dimension is the room of gauf, it is the one where both Angels and Lilin live.”

    “But we’re three dimensional”

    >>14580169

“Lilin perceive three dimensions but are fundamentally Fifth Dimensional creatures. The fruit of your knowledge allows you to perceive the universe in a way that causes the timeline to exist as perceived. The lilin soul is a functional part of the three dimensional reality, the perception of which gives it form.”

    “Eh?”

Okay… now I was confused. The little beachball in ym brain was starting to twirl.

“This restricts your immediate perceptions to a single 3 dimensional plane, but the soul… that which you are…intersects each and every possible timeline you are in. And each intersection is it’s own individual person.. some almost imperceptibly different from you and some utterly unrecognisable. The desire for individuality keeps you separate from these selves, it gives them form and shape.”

    I think I got that.

“Echoes of different timelines reverberate through a soul. A person who dies in a plane crash in one line, might well have a strange fear of flying in another. A writer might call it his muse which allows him to get into the mind of a serial killer. Thoughts and ideas, half-fragments of memories and ripples of emotion bleed through and then disappear.”

I looked at him, feeling a little cold.

“And in those echoes and fragment are pieces of the previous lines of this world. Now, they are inside you.”

Would it be possible to play the game as a one-shot at an animé con...

Anyone have any ideas about how to do that?

I was thinking to keep things simple, use the original series pilots + the odd extra as needed, and put them against one of the middle Angels... either Sahaquiel or even Zeruel.

Play through an episode of NGE and see what happens.

And suddenly everyone except me has Warriors of the World United playing in their head.

    >pretty serious extremists, acquire EVA carriers, bypass ludicrous security, etc
Or just lucky/well positioned enough to make a move after something akin to the EoE battle when there are a whole bunch of disabled Evas lying around and everyone who could stop them is dead.

Or hijack the train the Eva is being transported on under far too light security due to lack of funds/overconfidence.

Or they really hang out around a pilot who grabbed a portable reactor and bolted one day.

More specifically, where some of these groups are actually getting funds and equipment would be a campaign long plotline with dire implications.

For a one shot at a con, working with the canon pilots might be a desirable course to take. With all of the extra pilot candidates you should be able to fill out even a 6 member party pretty easily, and you can save a lot of time when you can just go "...and I'll be Toji".

That's the real problem I've always found with con games; you're on the clock in a very real way and you can't rely on your players to keep to a set schedule when they may have never played DH of watched NGE before. The less time you spend explaining the setting and making characters, the more time you'll have to walk the players thorough the system so you can actually play.

Eva vs Eva is short and brutal, because it is played to win.

Never forget that if the GM *actually* wanted to kill your players with an Angel, it would probably be a TPK. And that isn't even counting simple 'rocks fall' GM abuse.

Angels are designed to be played as powerful but dumb. A player, however, will called shot to the head of your Eva all day every day with the highest damage weapon they can get their hands on. Which pretty much means that whoever wins initiative has a huge advantage, as most hits will be either one-hit kills or otherwise crippling.

    well, how was it handled?

Adeva, for some reason, very much provokes (or simply attracts the sort of players that enjoy) intense roleplay, and romance seems to come up in almost every game.

If the no pants dance came as a natural result of a growing in character relationship and was handled tastefully? It was probably okay, if a bit uncomfortable.

Granted, anything other than 'fade to black' is probably less than tasteful. But as the GM, 'fade to black' was your call, not theirs.

On this subject I once got sick of hearing about how bad the sex scenes were in Fate/Stay Night. So I tracked them down, they're that bad. The one with Rin is also the most awkward uncomfortable virgin sex I've ever witnessed.

I kinda figure a good portion of Ad Eva sex could take it's cue from that scene.

See, I want to play this game. I really like it and I wouldn't even have any problem ifs some of this awkward sex stuff happened to happen in it. It's just that all of the people that I play with have the emotional fiber of a 12 year old from something awful. Even thinking about putting any of them in a situation like this is a disaster waiting to happen.

And for some reason I can never get into playing online. It's gotta be in person or it just doesn't work for me. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Dungeons and Dragoncrawling is getting a bit old and I don't see any obvious solution.

Not only would it be really fun to watch him break down over the course of a campaign, but letting the rest of the group's inevitable angst just pass him by would be too funny. Might try to do this when the new expanded rules come out, I heard tell of a cyborg perk that would work really well for it.

You can do that, but half of AdEva is about the parts of the game where you're not fighting Angels, be it politicking, planning, training, or social interaction. I'm glad that the game works out that most games have at least a half-and-half split, and it really does work so that the more non-Angel time the better, up until the point where the plot slows down too much because of it. AdEva isn't a hack and slash game, after all, because it's designed to be basically a solid stream of bossfights. Just like standard bossfights with extras, they need to be carefully moderated by the GM to keep them in line. If you reduce AdEva to raw combat, the games end up much like the Mongolians; nasty, brutish, and short.

Generally speaking, if you're going to play a full-length campaign over the standard 2+ hour sessions, there should be at least one Angel fight in every session. It's not until you have entire sessions without any fighting that the plot begins to crawl.

If you really are having problems with awkward teensex dominating the game, then talk to the players, and the GM. It's everybody's game, not just theirs. If you're upset with the fact that awkward teensex exists at all, then you need to calm down. Unless we're talking outright narration of the act itself, in which case fuck off fetishists.

    >>14594822

There are a few options, but what you're describing is something I think a few guys plus myself were looking at that got knocked over for being too complicated. You'd have to counts-as a cyborg PC to do one in Master.
    >> Dr. Baron von Evilsatan 04/15/11(Fri)00:34 No.14598984
    >>14594860

I hate to say it, but if everyone in the game except you is perfectly fine with the game, then maybe it's just not your game. As much as AdEva is meant to be a game where having a character of high morals and standards just gives them further to fall, and trying to save everyone can get as many people killed as the psychotic ruthless guy, people are free to play the game however they like. All we can do is tell peopel how we want it, not that they're wrong for doing it differently.

Talk to your GM before you get butthurt and try to destroy the game. Maybe he's making everything seem all nice and bright to give them exactly enough rope to hang themselves with. Or, he's not seeing that the things you want out of the game are being marginalised, and will give you some more scope to do things outside of combat as well. Or you could actually take part in the social interaction, dropping a PC filibuster into their funtime. If everyone is getting along fine, then maybe it's because you refuse to play the game.

    >>14598029

The game only goes so far as it is now, because it's not actually necessary to do more. When you get alternate campaign styles, there will be a shitload more material released. As it is, there are things already that nobody uses, and there's only so many optiosn you should put in the core book. You'll have some more toys in Master, and they're trying to get everything to work out a bit more useful.

    Except the Pallet Rifle.
