    Previous thread: >15057410

The "Warriors of the Eight Tombs" Led by Kaar, The Hand of Unity. Lord of the Eight Tombs, Emperor of Ti'anxia a Platinum Level Lord, are a /tg/ Homebrew Necron Tombworld based around the Terracotta warriors of Ancient China.

So far we have only established the Very basics, and are looking for more Elegan/tg/entlemen to help us continue.

    So Far we Have
Karr - Pictured Right (6 arms, 8 Eyes, Based on a Tomb Spyder body)
8 different Gold Lords subservient to Karr - 1 running each tomb like the 8 Immortals of Zui Quan. (Based on the Old Chinese Mythos of the "Eight Immortals")

Battle Tactics - Destroyers that outflank and confuse the Enemy, running rings around them and firing into their ranks, before Flayed ones crawl out from amongst them and The Immortals begin the solemn, deadly march forward. (Based on the Battle tactis of the First Emperor of China, also the basis for the army as a whole)

    So, lets get cracking.
    >> Anonymous 05/26/11(Thu)10:51 No.15059012
So far, the Consensus seems to be that the Tomb World was first Awakened by a passing rogue Trader, digging into the Crypts on the rumors of ancient Treasure, and the continuing forward, spurred by the allure of Great wealth.

After they awoke the Slumbering Necrons and Destroyed, the Rising Sons chapter was called in to deal with the Problem ,and were promptly defeated and repelled by the forces of the Necrons under a Platinum Lord.

Are we looking for traditional Chinese Inspiration on the names of the eight "Lesser" lords? or can it be whatever we prefer?

Well, first of all, I really don't like the look of that symbol. I like how it's trying to integrate the 8 symbology we've been going for, but I think it look stoo much like...well...a pair of hairy balls.

Perhaps something that shows the whole 8-fold-division thing a little more loosely, perhaps using ancient chinese numerals? (pic related)

Godammit I thought I would be the only one to have ever monopolized the Terracotta Warriors for Necrons. (Pic being just that, my wraith lord)

    Anyway.

Their tombworld should be littered with cables strung across the ruins which forces crawl across to rapidly traverse their cities and descend upon interlopers.

Tomb Spyders and Scarabs are particularly present among these Necrons. Maybe hordes of tiny, arachnid like scarabs piggyback on Warriors, surging out to overwhelm and devour assailants whole if they attempt to melee their Warrior hosts.

Oh god. that's a mental Image that I'm never going to loose.

As for the Traditional Chinese characters, I think it would be good to Include them, but the main problem is very few people actually read traditional Chinese, so its better to have a few tings that an outsider can relate to and recognize easily.

Well, the origional inspiration for the 8 Gold Lords was the 8 Immortals of ancient china.

From the wiki article on Zui Quan:
    >Some of the moves from drunken boxing were derived from the legend of 8 gods or immortals. Each immortal had their own style and exaggerated movements that are used in the art of drunken boxing in Jackie Chan's movies. The gods were said to be drunken with power instead of literally drunk. The immortals include: Immortal Woman He, Royal Uncle Cao, Iron-Crutch Li, Lan Caihe, Lü Dongbin, Philosopher Han Xiang, Elder Zhang Guo, Han Zhongli.

Anyone got an Idea? especially factoring there are Eight separate tombs on this world.

Good question, and honestly One I had not thought about.

Space marines are easy, 100 to a chapter, Done. Necrons.... they have entire worlds as their tombs, and they are still only just awakening. There could be up too Hundreds of Thousands of thing on the one World, all things considered. but that's just idle speculation.

I've always vastly preferred the Green glow to any of these new fangled colors. I think the Orange was just that particular Drawfag's preference.

    +1 to Green glowy-ness

At the moment I'm just trying to figure out how many Necrons we would have on the one world

    8,000?
    80,000?
    800,000?

Personally I don't think it should be anywhere near those last wo numbers, but I'd like to be fluff correct before I say anything that is horribly wrong.

Now, a thought of mine occured, that Necrons do not have diversity in their ranks.

I was thinking of a heavy unit, A Golem style unit, something to rival , say Dreadnoughts. A melee oriented thingy.

Something like this, Scept Necronish, and without a head, and instead of a chest theres the face that looks like those from easter Island.

Not sure about the Golem, we wanna do it in a way that actually fits with the theme of Necrons. For example, the Tomb spyder is a monstrous Creature, and is yet not Humanoid shaped, the same goes for the forge work Crypt Stalker. I think we may want to be wary about making a SM dred knockoff (Unless of course some makes a really cool picture and it looks awesome enough to change my mind) Really its up to a general consensus.
    >> X 05/26/11(Thu)12:32 No.15059813

True, but Necrons Awaken rather slowly it seems, And remember that in the fluff their Gauss weaponry strips flesh from bone and deatomises tanks, plus they can repair themselves if they get damaged and for all intents and purposes Respawn if Killed.

Add to this Karr himself perhaps having an honor guard of 200 that awoke when he did and it is an extremely dangerous fighting force, nearly unstoppable to much short of an entire chapter or two bolstered with several Guard Battalions.
    >> Anonymous 05/26/11(Thu)12:36 No.15059834
I think we should leave the numbers of necrons very vague, just mention that the Tomb is divided into eight separate sections for the 8 Gold Lords. In fact each Lord probably uses mildly different tactics to the others, depending on their speciality.

Then, perhaps, we can have the fluff say that after the first defeat of the Rising Sons to the 3rd Lord's destroyers, the sons retreated their heavy units and counter-attacked with their own fast skimmers, only to have their HQ ambushed and destroyed by the 7th Lord's deep-striking monolith phalanxs. Or something like that. And the marines get very confused, as it seems they're fighting 8 different specialised opponents on different battlefields.
Then the Platinum Emperor shows up and the amies coalesce into a whole...

Also, if we have any tendency to actually stat any of this up for the actual boardgame, we should probably make the Emperor only available in Apocalypse, so we can go all-out nuts on him.

    >topology tchatur
Yes capcha, tchatur's topologies were very intricate when he designed the Tomb World for our Lord Emperor Karr.

Why don't we worry about specific units later? You've got eight golden lords, there's no reason one has to follow the same combat doctrine as the other.

Since Necron personality is so focused on the commanders, I think we should depart from the typical bottom-up design philosophy and instead flesh out the philosophy of this Emperor and his eight great generals.

Why is Kaar the Hand of Unity? What makes him different from Joe Necron Lord? What does he want to unify? Is he still loyal to a specific C'Tan, or is he following his own agenda? Why does he shape his tomb world's court in this particular way? Is it an actual world, or a fleet of Necron capital ships, or what?
    >> Anonymous 05/26/11(Thu)16:31 No.15061688
    >>15061617

I reckon Kaal was a great leader and philosopher that unified the Necrontyr in a particular region of space (not sure they had colonies before they became Necrons though). The Golden Lords would be generals and politicians that used to oppose him, but that he brought into the fold. We could have it that Kaal is the one that introduced C'tan worship to the population that would become the 8 Tombs (I suggest a Jovian with 8 moons, each moon a Necrontyr colony), and he led the effort to convert himself and his subjects to Necron bodies.

The Golden Lords would have various histories with Kaal. An idea I had was for one Lord to be Kaal's right hand and trusted friend, and one to have been a sceptic and doubter, reluctant to accept Kaal's rule and Necron conversion. That one would have been punished somehow.

Basically, I see Kaal as a kind of Buddha meets First Emperor of China figure. A warrior and spiritual figure that became "enlightened" (communed with the C'tan) and shared the gift of this enlightenment with his subjects (all became Necrons). Ironically, the enlightenment freed them from death but turned them into soulless abominations that hate life.

Harbinger of Fall: The mighty Destroyer Lord of Tomb Three, roused from his slumber only when a great harvest approaches. Once, he was a Necrontyr nobleman, a wise sage and Kaal's teacher. Venerated by the entire world of the 8 Tombs, he was kept alive with rejuvenant drugs and therapy until he could finally be granted the gift of immortality through Living Metal. The Harbinger of Fall has devoted his entire memory base to military tactics and strategy (this can probably be represented by a tabletop rule, but I dunno what). There is literally nothing that can surprise him on the battlefield, no stratagem he has not already analyzed and countered.

I must say, I think this entire concept is extremely awesome.

However, there something I need to have explained here:

The fluff so far is that they were awakened by accident by a bunch of marines from the Rising Sons, who were all killed shortly after, right?
I have no problems with that. In fact, I like that idea.

But then it seems that it moves on to them killing of the entire chapter.
And honestly, that sours the entire concept for me a little. Not because of the Crons destroying a chapter, but because the only justification I've seen so far is the spiteful "lol weaboos" kind.

    That's my thoughts at least.

As for his loyalties, I believe we discussed in the first one Kaar losing his zeal for the C'tan, and deciding to strike out for himself. Exterminate the Galaxy, but to establish his own Necron empire rather than to feed his former gods.

And what is unity? Does he want to force convert other sapient races into Necron-dom? Unify the galaxy in mechanical undeath?

Also so I can contribute something besides dumb questions.
The Empty Chariot: Undisputed Lord of the forbidden 6th tomb world, The Empty Chariot keeps the hordes of tomb warriors infected with various stages of the Destroyer curse in check because Kaar has the one thing the Chariot desires besides glorious nothingness; an iron box containing a hard drive full of the Chariot's memories of his days as a mortal. Every hard won victory and successful corralling of the Destroyer cult's self destructive impulses earns the Chariot another sliver of memory; soon, he thinks, he will have enough to remember why he went mad in the first place. That's what Unity is, the Platinum Lord puppeteers all the other Necrons on the planet. It's his dream come true, to be able to perfectly guide his people without failure or dissent.

    Fluffing out more Lords:
    >Chairman Mao

The End of Discord was formerly a great hero of the Necrontyr race. A general and politician of renown, he led the people on the colony that became Tomb Four in daring attacks on the Old Ones and their client races, winning spectacular victories that gave the Necrontyr hope in a losing struggle. End of Discord was approached by Kaar and granted immortality, but he wished for all his subjects, from the highest statesman to the poorest wretch, to be given the same treatment. Thus, End of Discord's tomb is populated with endless rows of Warriors, each a Necrontyr believer in their leader's vision. This Lord seeks to restore sentience and free will to his servants and works in secret to break Kaar's hold over his mind.

I appreciate your fluff additions, they are awesome, but lets get one thing straight.

The eight lords were united before being turned into Necrons. In a long forgotten age. There are no secret plans to overturn the Hand of Unity.

Think of Kaar as the voice of the 8 Lords.

    The Collective Consciousness.

the lord who specializes in flayed ones
the fans are made from the flayed skin of "her" latest victim
"her" mask was based on the ones they use in chinese operas

    >The eight lords were united before being turned into Necrons. In a long forgotten age. There are no secret plans to overturn the Hand of Unity.

Well, see, my view is that even though the union happened long before the Necron conversion, there was a lot of politicking, intrigue and manipulation that happened prior to and during the unification. And the Lords have retained memories of it. Some resent Kaar, some still love him. Some have grown disillusioned and bitter.

I just think it adds a nice twist to the army's backstory.

    >Think of Kaar as the voice of the 8 Lords.

    >The Collective Consciousness.

I like to think that Kaar has assumed the role of the collective mind of the Lords, but they're not all that happy about it.

    >Sun Wukong

Herald of Unmaking is the undisputed lord of Tomb Two, the largest besides the Central Complex wherein Kaar and his host reside. But the path of this particular Lord was a long and arduous one. Born sickly (even for Necrontyr standards) and of low status, Unmaking grew to become a scientist, drawn to stellar physics. His pioneering particle research formed the foundation for the discovery of the C'Tan. However, he was never credited for this discovery, something that only fueled his resentment. When he learned of the C'tan, the Lord decided on a course of action. He would convert himself into an energy form akin to the C'tan, becoming a Star God himself. Herald of Unmaking never managed to achieve his foolish dream, but his research into energy/matter conversion caught the eye of Lord Kaar, who took him in as a protege.

In Necron form, Herald of Unmaking has mastered the art of molding and reshaping his Necrodermis body. Unlike most other Lords, he can take whatever form he desires, sometimes masquerading as a rank-and-file unit, other times appearing as a monstrous war machine.

Actually, Necron Lu Bu stat wise would be easy, some from of Necron Horse, perhaps with faster than normal movement to represent Red Hare, a disdain for Gauss weaponry, favoring the war scythe so higher ws, probably Infiltrate or some such due to the way he almost always ambushes in the DW game.

Fluff wise he is a lot harder to justify, as he's near uncontrollable, and an incredibly traitorous bastard, which doesn't seem like it would work as a Necron. A chaos Lu Bu is a hell of a lot eaiser.

earlier there was discussion over where these tombs were located and how. I suggest we stick with the story of the eight immortals on this one and go with five small planetoids that circle a star together as the 8 immortals story has them living on a group of 5 islands. We can debate where each gold lord is placed afterwards but I think the idea is solid enough to build off of
