A fearsome Champion of the Dark Gods, the champion ascended and became a Daemon Prince. He uses his new power to crush all who opposed the warband at the time.

Does this work with their Night Lord heritage and chaos-loathing?

Going with the roll of 100. The Champion led many wars and slaughtered countless foes. However, he was eventually slain by a rival Chaos Champion. The warband holds great hatred for the champion and his marines to this day.

yeah. home is mega huge battleship, but perhaps the scale we are looking for would be better as a space hulk. Also the main concept was it was a massive hunting lodge/ game park. For that scale. totally a space hulk. Also. as a though, terminator armor with nothing but a scout knife for killing hive tyrants. awesome picture.

Drown them with Bodies: Warband makes heavy use of mortal servants as cannon fodder, sending them in waves towards the enemy

This could actually work, The Huntsmen uses lowly mortals as hunting dogs, tying up the pray while they move in for the kill.

Roll for special weaponry? Or just go with Ancient weaponry for Blunderbuses?

So, the champion lead many successful hunts, but was eventually taken down by another chaos warband? What if we change Chaos Warband to Abyssal Jaws (they are practically heretics as it is)?

Or, if not that, World Eaters? I could see the warriors of Khorn hating how the Huntsmen are different. They both hunt for fun, but the Huntsmen care more about the fun then the bloodshed.

Here's the basic infomation we have on the chapter:

The Ivory Huntsman were once Night Lords who many millennia ago went their own way, considering their brother Night Lords to be little more than gaudy, lowbrow rabble. The warband isn't a centralised force, with countless smaller warbands or even lone marines travelling the galaxy, searching for the one thing the Ivory Huntsman value more then anything; a worthy prey. Every few centuries, the Ivory Huntsmen will return to their main headquarters, the vast Space Hulk known as the Heart of Darkness. This is called the (we need a name for this get together). The gigantic structure is vast in size, decorated in finest pine and fully furnished with everything the marines desire. Mile-long hallways are filled to the brim with the countless trophies the marines have taken, be they mounted heads or priceless portraits. Other parts of the Hulk are dominated by lounges, bars, libraries and other rooms.

When the warband meets aboard the Heart of Darkness, heretical scholars and noblemen are given a chance to go on board the Space Hulk, which is fiercely guarded by the Warband's menservants. The marines of the warband spend their time aboard the Heart of Darkness boasting about their hunts, telling tales, trading equipment and swapping possible targets for new hunts. Then, once the get together ends (it has been known to go on for multiple years), the warband splits apart once more as they go marines go their way, searching for a new prey.

One such warband of Ivory Huntsmen is located within the vicinity of the oceanic planet of Maresia, home to the Abyssal Jaws chapter of Space Marines. The Abyssal Jaws were originally founded in response to an ancient, badly damaged text known as the “Call of Cth”. Maresia is said to be home to this “Cth”, an ancient, insane Old One that lurks beneath the waves, sleeping within the ancient ruins of it's long-dead civilisation. This warband plans on somehow awakening the Old One to see if the creature is worthy of the infamy surrounding it, not caring for the consequences of this act. Of course, the warband plans on killing the creature once they've finished watching it wipe out a few hundred worlds. That is, if they feels its worthy enough to hunt.

So yes. We need a name for a few infamous Ivory Huntsmen, a name for the great gathering and also some heraldry. Personally, I think the elephant from the coat of arms of the Ivory Coast would look good.

there's an Ivory Huntsmen named Zaroff featured in some writefagging for Hivefleet Nidhoggr
    >> Anonymous 05/29/11(Sun)19:47 No.15096123
I think battle doctrine would vary wildly between individual Huntsmen based on the nature of the hunt they are undertaking

as for weapons, likewise individual, though they like things that can take down a target while keeping it intact enough to make a trophy out of, and of course, it needs to have class.

"Master Zaroff, I bring news of a potential hunt."

Zaroff puffed on his cigar and spun around in his ork-hide chair to face the tan and white garbed servant. "Speak then."

    "Tyranids mast-"

Zaroff waved dismissively to the head of a hive tyrant mounted above the fireplace, "Tyranids? Pfft, as if I don't already have enough those."

"My lord I do not speak of, how shall I say it, the garden variety tyranid. These beasts are of a different caliber, of your caliber my lord."

Zaroff sighed, and looked down at the images the servant had placed on his desk. He picked up the first one, depicting verdant planet of green and blue, a backwater Imperial world. Weylon IV it was called. He sighed and placed it aside and looked to the next. His eyes widened as he could clearly make out fissures oozing out lava and acrid smoke carved into the world's surface. Volcanoes erupting nonstop in a symphony of geological fury The next image was taken from ground level, a massive hulking creature standing atop the partly melted chassis of a Leman Russ.

"It has been designated Hive Fleet Nidhoggr my lord. Is it too your liking?"

"Prepare for departure at once! None shall have a trophy of such magnificent beast before I do!"

fielding an amry of Ivory Huntsmen would likely involve a diversionary force of fodder while the few huntsmen get in to position to strike

they like their prey to have a sporting chance, so in the event something is too easy to kill, they go for taking it alive. Because taking space marine scouts back in nets to stick in cage to put on display is something they'd do

Probably some stolen dark eldar weaponry. It would leave the body intact while killing the creature. Sniper rifles, autoguns, and even flamers, if they extinguish the corpse sun enough. Unfortunately, anything strong enough to kill something the Huntsmen would be interested in, would also probably destroy the corpse

The thrill of the hunt! Your weapons barely damage the blighter? Move to a new postion, take shot and fire again! As a fine chap in Predator said: "If it bleeds, we can kill it."
