594 KB thread 4: warriors of the eight tombs Anonymous 05/29/11(Sun)21:15 No.15096947
Necrons based on ancient china, their lord is half tomb spider.

Evetything set in stone is here, it can be changed if new fluff out awesomes it. http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Warriors_of_the_Eight_Tombs

What we need: More about the awakening of the planet, more about the lords behavior, do the necrons of the 8 tombs have any other physical differences from generic necrons other than colour scheme?

    All feedback is appreciated.

--- The following extract is taken from the barely comprehensible information provided by Gertlend’s private journal and the interpretations of events from his unknown ghost scribe in the early edition of Gertlend’s memoires.
One can assume the record of events was given a slight polish for reader’s enjoyment and Gertlends own egotistical pleasure. Any self-respecting member of the Imperium will find the language used in the text bordering on the blasphemous. Whilst we can thank the Emperor this book will never see publication, it remains the only first-hand account of the discovery of the first tomb on Ti’Anxia. ---
Arlmond Gertlend was awoken by the bitter taste of earth and blood. It wasn’t the first time he had experienced it, the last such instance involved a pissed off crew and enough alcohol that even the Emperor himself would wake up next to some hiveworld whore with questionable personal hygiene standards . This time it was different.
Rolling to his side, Arlmond held his cracked ribs and let out a string of profanity that would likely cause an inquisitorial investigation if he was in the company of more honourable men. Thankfully he was not. The cloud of sand that filled the cave began to settle and Arlmond wiped away the blood and dust from his eyes with a torn cloth he found to his side. It was only after his vision returned he realised that the cloth he had used was worn by a miner just a few moments ago and still had some remnants from its previous owner attached.

He fought back the urge to vomit but failed. Then came the buzzing, his hearing was returning along with a headache that could kill a cave-worm or two . It didn’t matter. Arlmond’s eyes were drawn to something in the distance. Just past the fallen debris, past the team of men trying to pull out a man whose legs had become trapped under a very big rock. A fantastic green glow emitted from a symbol of unknown origin.
“What in the Emperors name?” wheezed Arlmond, as he felt a warm stream of blood slowly sliver down the side of his face.
Then he collapsed, the world around him fading into an ever deepening chasm of blackness and the taste of earth and blood still on his tongue.

So, the question is: who awakens first?
It could be one of subordinate Lords, who would then wake his comrades so that they could wake the Hand of Unity together.
It could be Kaar himself, who then brings his army to full strength one tomb at time.

P.S. I do believe 100000 for a tomb and 200000 for Kaar's personal needs are good numbers for their overall quantity.

My idea was that Arlmond Gertlend started a chain reaction, on the main tomb, where Kaar resides. When the Rising Sons came into the picture they faced the fully activated planet tomb world.

How about you have a go at fleshing out a Gold Lord or two.

Harbinger of Fall: The mighty Destroyer Lord of Tomb Three, roused from his slumber only when a great harvest approaches. Once, he was a Necrontyr nobleman, a wise sage and Kaal's teacher. Venerated by the entire world of the 8 Tombs, he was kept alive with rejuvenant drugs and therapy until he could finally be granted the gift of immortality through Living Metal. The Harbinger of Fall has devoted his entire memory base to military tactics and strategy . There is literally nothing that can surprise him on the battlefield, no stratagem he has not already analyzed and countered, short of human ingeniouity.

The End of Discord was formerly a great hero of the Necrontyr race. A general and politician of renown, he led the people on the colony that became Tomb Four in daring attacks on the Old Ones and their client races, winning spectacular victories that gave the Necrontyr hope in a losing struggle. End of Discord was approached by Kaar and granted immortality, but he wished for all his subjects, from the highest statesman to the poorest wretch, to be given the same treatment. Thus, End of Discord's tomb is populated with endless rows of Warriors, each a Necrontyr believer in their leader's vision.

Herald of Unmaking is the undisputed lord of Tomb Two, the largest besides the Central Complex wherein Kaar and his host reside. But the path of this particular Lord was a long and arduous one. Born sickly (even for Necrontyr standards) and of low status, Unmaking grew to become a scientist, drawn to stellar physics. His pioneering particle research formed the foundation for the discovery of the C'Tan. However, he was never credited for this discovery, something that only fueled his resentment. When he learned of the C'tan, the Lord decided on a course of action. He would convert himself into an energy form akin to the C'tan, becoming a Star God himself. Herald of Unmaking never managed to achieve his foolish dream, but his research into energy/matter conversion caught the eye of Lord Kaar, who took him in as a protege. In Necron form, Herald of Unmaking has mastered the art of molding and reshaping his Necrodermis body. Unlike most other Lords, he can take whatever form he desires, sometimes masquerading as a rank-and-file unit, other times appearing as a monstrous war machine.

Id suggest we flesh out these lords with Individual personality and traits, lets say ones Egyptian in aspect, one Roman, one Numidian ... Sound good? It gives room for expansion that way.

    The Merciful One
Somewhat of a Pariah among his fellow Necron Lords, he takes uncharacteristic approach to hordes of Flayed Ones under his command. Instead of looking at them with disgust, he expresses pity and goes out of his way to ensure their need for flesh clothing is satisfied. He haven't suiccumbed to their madness, however - although many think it won't be long until he succumbs to is.
In battle, he sows fear and confusion in the ranks of the enemy, breaking their gunlines and morale and then overrunning them with his Flayed ones.

    The Pontific
While being alive, Pontific was one of the most successfull engineers of the Necron race. Some of his designs went into foundation of Cairn Class Tombships and planetoid-sized constructs.
His duties as a golden lord are direct continuation of his old ones, as he oversees maintenance of the fleet and (in his spare time) the orks of lesser mechanisms, like pylons or monoliths. He has somewhat of a dream to build planetships again.

I'll try to expand a bit.
The Merciful One got his nickname while he was still alive for his research and efforts to treat cursed glesh and genome of Necrontyr and prolong their life for some, even small, amount. However, his tender love for his race turned into cold hatred of all others, who had so much more time given to them unjustly. Now, in his wraith body, he displays his hatred and medicine expertize in making flesh clothing for his Flayed one followers.

Pontyfic rarely ever leaves his beloved shipyard/laboratiry, working on new designs and endlessly testing readiness of all systems on the docked ships. That's why he is only seen on the battlefield when Kaar himself leads his armies, for the will of the Hand of Unity is absolute.

Prophet of Eternity was a visionary speaker, who uplifted the embittered spirits of her people. She spoke of a time when the Necrontyr would be freed of their from the curse the cosmos had stricken them with where pain and fear would melt away. Never once did she falter in her hope and her perseverance remained steadfast in spite of all odds that sought to crush her hope. With Kaar, she saw the dreams of which she spoke so passionately about realized, she and her followers gladly embraced the eternity he offered without hesitation, an eternity freed from suffering. Even now she seeks to bring this peace to all who would heed her words.

When we first heard of the defeat of the Emperors Angels of Death, the rumor mongers were shot. Who could possibly wipe out that many members of the glorious Adeptus Astartes, especially from the very middle of a normally peaceful sector. When we first heard of the Astropath-Transcendants in the area around Ti'Anxia, we became worried, what could possibly silence those who had basked in the Glorious Light of the Emperor? and then, when we First heard that we were to be sent to Ti'Anxia, we rejoiced. Accompanied by the hulking, power armored forms of Space Marines hungry for vengeance against their fallen Brothers. We were fools.

We arrived at a planet that could have been undisturbed for millennia, if not for the mounds of corpses, Guardman and Astartes alike, left where they had fallen. Until the very ground began to rise and shining metal forms, cloaked in the rotting skin of the vanquished tore into our rank. Until the image of green lighting stripping the flesh from the captains face was Imprinted into my Mind forever.

And yet, despite our losses, the Marines pressed forward. Extorting us onwards, towards the crest of the Hill where an imposing, gleaming metal form stood. arm outstretched as he mutely directed his shambling forces in their almost drunken dance of death. The screech of metal and the screams of men loud in my ears and we fought tooth and nail, Hellgun and Bolter up the shallow incline. Determined to cut the head off this foul, metallic invader. The Desiccator of the Emperors finest.

We were so close, when the end came. The gigantic metal pyramids appearing with a cataclysmic boom and a wave of overpressure that staggered the few of us still surviving. The horrific bolts of green lighting spewing from the multi-barreled cannons of the blank faced skeletons marching up behind us.

And the gleam in the cold, soulless eyes of the second gold plated figure, one that could almost have been mistaken as satisfaction of a well executed plan coming to fruition as the last pockets of resistance were mercilessly crushed.

We were Fools. We paid the Ultimate Price.

I thought about this, and the only way I could concieve it is, Tomb 1 and 2 , are adjoined, and at their very epicenter is / was Kaar Sarcophagus.

    >>15101418

Indeed it is a bit weaboo. I've been meaning to post this one actually.

(Not the poster of this idea)
But wouldn't it make sense for this "Emissary of the ages" to fuck around with time?
Namely the chronometron and all that jizz.
Perhaps making it his "thing" to slow down the opponents "time" and then march upon them (or even have some of the other lords attack).

    Onto the lord himself:
Perhaps he should be a necron lord that haven't slept? At least 60 million years awake will make one's perception of time change abit me thinks.

Just stating ideas here folks. Love all the work people have done on this tombworld so far.
    >> The God-Emperor of Mankind 05/30/11(Mon)06:22 No.15101780
    >>15101732

Why dont you flesh that one out? You seem to have a very stable idea going :)

He could have been a Necrontyr historian, now as a Necron lord, proficiently skilled in the use of a chronometron. His troops appearing a bit phased out of time.
    >> Anonymous 05/30/11(Mon)06:36 No.15101879
    >>15101780
Not quite sure how it would work honestly.
If we assume that his primary method of warfare is through application of a powerful chronometron, then just how powerful are we talking?
We could have him use such a powerful system that it would seem like he and his army is teleporting instead marching slowly.
Or in other words, make this lord run on changing the opponents perception of time, so that it seems to them that the emissary and his army almost "teleports" from place to place.
Though that might be a bit....overpowered.

If we run on the idea that he used to be a historian as a necrontyr, then perhaps it would make sense for him to have travelled the galaxy during the many years the remaining necrons slept?
Perhaps gathering and writing the history of the galaxy. Or perhaps he travelled the stars in search of ways to expand his knowlegde on time, granting him his formidable abilities today.

Also, just had an idea. i might be getting ahead of myself here. If we run on the idea that he travelled during the great stasis, then when should he have come back?
    When the world awakened?
or when the world came under siege?
    >> The God-Emperor of Mankind 05/30/11(Mon)06:39 No.15101901
    >>15101879

Good points. Id say just to keep the chrono powers to himself then.

When the Archeologist uncovered our world he awakened tomb number 1 and 2, where Kaar and 2 Lords reside.( havent decided wich yet) Thus setting a chain reaction that lead to the planetwide activation.

When the Rising Sons came onto the planet it was already fully active.

    >>15101901
hmm. Then maybe he returned before the architect came? perhaps he had gained the knowlegde he had sought.
Or should we drop the traveling idea in total? It's not really a necessity for his character.

Doesn't matter really , I don't see any negative outcome on the story.

    >>15101971
Hmm. We'll leave the travelling thing up to debate(i have some ideas how it would work, but it might ruin the whole idea with this tombworld being in stasis and all, also the terracota thing).

But in gameplay terms wouldn't it make sense just to have his chronometron give the same benefits as the normal one ALONG with some random bonuses?
Bonuses such as increased movement speed, perhaps fleet, more attacks, may be even an invulnerable save or a regenerate.
(Regenerate because he can speed up the autorepair function by local time manipulation?)

A silver-white Necron lady stares into a black metal lotus.

(name) was one of the leads for a Necrontyr project for immortality that did not use the C'tan and Necrodermis. The research of otherworldly plants, who did not change much with the passage of time, particularly on the time scale of the short lived Necrontyr race, consumed her life. Even when the C'tan offered Immortality for Service, she continued with her research, studies on that which channeled the stars' power for life like the C'tan, but did not need Necrodermis to do so. When the Enslavers forced the Old Ones and C'tan back and the Necrons started their slumber, she attempted to preserve her specimens with Necrodermis itself before going to the tomb. When she awoke, all of the plants were dead, except for one black space lotus that radiated power, a lotus that she keeps on her at all times to this day.

    plant motif for her forces?

Dislike of SoB for using plant motif and not really doing anything with it?

Need to have names plugged into back story.

Somebody went a writefagged that Akechi Mitsuhide (leader of the seven Rising Sons that defected to chaos) killed a small Rising Sons search party for Gertlend and stole one of their orbs. This awoke all of the tombs. How badly does this clash with that you guys have established?

Uh, Its basically an account of what happened from an imperial point of view, The Rising Sons know the 7 traitors disturbed it.

We the Necrons think the Rising Sons disturbed us.

I dont know. I guess its based on point of view.
