    >Haven't been replaced by alien creature. Scout's honor.

THAT'S WHAT A BODYSNATCHER WOULD SAY!
    >> Brain In A Jar 06/12/11(Sun)17:25 No.15244521
You are a strange creature, capable of taking over other lifeforms to serve as your vessel. Your current host, Jack Winters, was unbeknownst to you a drug addict, and overdosed on speedball. To survive, you bonded with him, but this damaged you, leaving you without any idea of what you are.

Your kin, the bodysnatchers, seem intent on murdering you, and have sent combat specialised variants, called Warriors, after you. The reason seems to be that you are a Hunter through accident, a form that is the greatest weapon of the race.

Joining up with a small team, calling themselves the Fools, you, along with the man called the Doctor infiltrated a research base of the Wise concealed as an office building with the purpose of healing Jack's girlfriend, Catherine, who was infected by both alien strains.

You "disarmed" the infections, stole the documentation of a mass-driver project, several weapons based on alien tech, "kidnapped" Professor Aleksandra Kellery, a researcher, and freed Daisy, or Number 7, another bodysnatcher hybrid.
    >> Brain In A Jar 06/12/11(Sun)17:26 No.15244526
    Your known abilities are:
    - reinforcing your muscle and bone tissue, making you several times stronger, faster and tougher
    - growing weapons from your arms, limited to one on each arm in any combination:a hooked, double edged blade on your forearm, claws or a spike that springs out from your wrist underneath your palm
    - hardening your skin into thick, segmented bone plate armor, and growing a membrane under your skin, that contains fluid that hardens on impact
    - absorbing ingested organic material, that you can use to increase muscle and bone density(animal tissue is the most effective)
    - the ability to call forth your host's memories, skills and knowledge
    - altering your appearance, includin skin\hair\eye colour, facial features, height, build, and gender, though the more elaborate the change is, the more time and effort it takes.
    - producing almost any kind of drug, poison or acid in liquid form, including sedatives, that you can deliver either at high pressure from an opening that can be created anywhere on your body, or through the wristspike.
    - emitting pheromones that influence humans
    - sensing the mind-link of bodysnatchers
    - enhanced senses, capable of switching to different spectrums (infravision, ultrasound, noise filterin, etc.)
    - fiber-optic nervous system, allowing you to ignore pain to some extent, and speeding up your reflexes by orders of magnitude
    >> Brain In A Jar 06/12/11(Sun)17:29 No.15244553
You wake with a start, someone gently shaking your shoulder. Cath is leaning above you, smiling. The van is parked in front of Jack's house, empty beside the two of you, it's passengers nowhere to be seen. You try to get up, only to cringe from the jolt of pain coming from your back and side, the wounds you suffered still not completely healed.

"You okay? Should I call someone to help carry you inside?" Her happy smile is blown away, replaced by a look of worry and guilt.

Focusing, you alter the nerves a little in the wounded areas, dampening the pain to managable levels. You climb out, with a strange sense of unease. As the two of you start walking to the front door you realize what's bothering you. Catherine's movements are somehow wrong, uncoordinated, beyond a level that could be attributed to exhaustion.

Well, she's infected by two types of mutually hostile alien tissue. Made docile, but still. That's not supposed to happen. Ever. We must ask Doc about it later. Till then, let's just keep an eye on her.

She doesn't notice the way you look at her, barely looking at anything. She opens the door, and heads for the bedroom upstairs, only turning back at the foot of the stairway.

She reaches out and grasps your hand, opening her mouth to speak a few times, looking for words. She settles on a simple "Thank you." and a smile, then turns back and starts going upstairs.

You hear the clattering of plates and cuttlery from the kitchen accompanied by the voice of Kellery, only now realizing that you turned you senses back to normal while you were asleep.

"No talking with your mouth full, young lady." A loud gulp. "Yes ma'am." You can smell chicken, turkey, pork and beef, and your stomach makes noises uncomfortable loud to your enhanced hearing.

Snatching a plate for yourself, you sit down and start packing a mound of meat in front of you. Satisfied when the pile grows large enough to almost topple, you start wolfing it down without preference. You could possibly eat your own weight or more, your body requiring more than usual energy and raw materials to recuperate.

"Jack, then. Would you mind telling me your story? I'll share some information of your choice in return." The professor leans against the kitchen counter so she can see your face, eyebrow raised in question.

She looks at the two of you with a ponderous expression.

They were substance abusers, hooked on several types of chemicals, and she had some health issues. She was diagnosed with ASL at age 5. The bodysnatcher infection seemd to have trouble connecting properly to her nervous system, and left her consciousness intact."

Tough question. I say we should go for full disclosure. Lying will bite us in the ass sooner or later. We don't have to tell everyone right now, but I'm afraid that's inevitable. For now, let's just tell Kellery.
Tell her the whole story. Emphasise that we don't really know who or what we are anymore. Line between the parasite and host blurred, orders got cut off, we have no idea what to do in the long run. We lied because it was easier that way, but it can't drag on forever. We will tell the others in their own time.

We really do need to sit down and reevaluate our priorities here.

Do we honestly give a damn what happens to Cath and every other human here? Or are we just concerned with tracking down more genetic material in order to improve ourselves?

We can certainly still use the resources and connections we've aquired to do the latter, but trying to act human by maintaining these emotional connections may prove to be... inefficient sooner or later. But if we drop the pretense of caring about these guys, then I doubt that they'll be as willing to help us out as well.

Given how angry she seemed at the doc's betrayal of her father, I highly doubt she'd turn around and betray him as well ten minutes later. She's just here because she thinks we're interesting and wants to spy on us. We're telling her lies and in return she's probably lying to us. I don't really see the point of this,
    >> Anonymous 06/13/11(Mon)18:04 No.15256596
    >>15256501
You see, the problem is in that we don't actually have any priorities. We're just kind of going with the flow, absorbing something along the way. Currently our only long term objective is gathering information about overall situation. We still have rather vague idea about what's going on.
Do we care about the Fools and Catherine? Yes. They're useful. Do we actually see them as something more than tools or resources? Damn if I know. We (the alien) are pretty much blank table, we're not supposed to have personality or act on our own. Our only source of knowledge about morality is Jack, who wasn't wery nice person, but also wasn't complete dick (maybe).

I say we should just consider ourselves neutral, for the time being, and keep our options open. If they think we care about them that may open up options later. If we need to betray their trust later, then so be it. But for now, it will help us gather information, which should be our priority.

If you don't want to decide now, we will continue in 10-15 minutes(gonna make some delicious tea). The view most questers took in the previous installments was that you are mostly alien, maybe with some of Jack's personality rubbing off on you. Pretty much. We don't know why the bodysnatchers or the robot things are here, where they came from or what the want. We don't know for sure what the wise or the fools want. How are we meant to decide what side we're on? We need more info before we can make long-term objectives, and until then we're just trying to survive.
    >> Anonymous 06/13/11(Mon)18:19 No.15256759
Generally, I'm okay with anything as long as we don't go "lol, we so evil" route. We have had trouble unraveling the exact mechanics of it, the amount of variations a single bodysnatcher form - an Infiltrator, a Warrior, and so on- has is staggering, thousands of minute modifications to tailor them to the exact situation. Because of this, an unsuccessful bonding will most likely lead to a mad, confused, or completely disfunctional creature. There even was one which could not stop changing it's body, eventually dying from organ failiure."

You throw away the phone, and put your left palm on her chest. The tendrils snake out, trying to analyze the cyborg strain inside her, looking for any nanites that might have not been shut down. The process feels agonizingly slow, your extensions failing to properly calibrate themselves for the task. Finally, you manage to find the right search-pattern, sighing in relief when you make certain that they haven't reverted back to their original function.

Strangely enough, it would seem that the reason you had difficulties is that the two strains have begun to merge, several variations having arision from their fusion. This seems to be the problem, as Catherine unwittingly called upon the enhanced cells in her surprise, causing the nervous system already unstable to hopelessly jumble it's signals.

The Wise are techno-fetishists, interested in 1) Killing Aliens and 2) Initiating the Singularity.

Catherine represents something entirely new. A "tame" cyborg-type alien.

The Wise will want her, very, very, very badly when they realize what she is.

The Wise have worked in the past with bodysnatchers who failed to transition properly into their Overseer/Hunter form, and it apparently bit them badly. We need to find out the specifics of the Grey incident, since she was the first one they cooperated with, and the one that blew up in their faces.

As long as we're sure we're in control, yeah, but we don't know what happened to Grey. Knowing might tip us off to potential pitfalls.

We're over-reliant on the Fools, we should start making our own escape plans. Survival for us, Catherine, and Daisy comes first. Being able to help friendlies comes second.

Can Daisy shapeshift at all or is that a Hunter-exclusive power? It'd be handy for her to be able to change her appearance too.

Could we hide someone else's identity with like, living tissue masks or something?
    >> Anonymous 06/14/11(Tue)03:15 No.15261754

There's a difference between us and Grey though.

Grey was a human that managed to keep bodysnatcher powers after the snatching attempt messed up.

We, on the other hand, are the actual alien.

For all we know, Grey only went berserk because the bodysnatcher managed to resurface after quite a bit of time. With Jack though, he's gone and brain-dead.

Anyway, with the Doc possibly knowing too much about this Origin virus (and the fact he casually let the robocentipede out of the container and crawl around when they first caught us), we should probably not leave him or the Fools alone with Cathy for any length of time in case there is something up with them.

I hate to say it, but it looks like we just formed an impromptu family unit. I'm not sure if we have any significant feelings at all, if jack's emotions or tendencies still echo in us or if some damaged half-command of protecting our own might still linger in our damaged neural network. I think Cath has severe feelings for us, though, and Daisy seems attached to us out of more than just gratitude. Possibly an echo of Stockholm syndrome, possibly more, I'm not sure. We have to be very careful to monitor their emotional status' so they don't become unstable.

I think we need to be careful around Smith, yes. But he's proven VERY valuable to us. He gave us overseer DNA, and allowed us to infiltrate that base where we got our smorgasbord, rescued Daisy and Cath. He's profitted from the venture as well. A half dozen alien-tech energy lances, specs on the new rail pistol, and plenty of inside information on the base, their breakthroughs (you can't tell me he didn't nick something from the medical files in the infirmary), and a great deal of biological data on both us and Cath. We have a mutually beneficial relationship at the moment profiting us both. I don't want to see it end prematurely. And while I don't think we should throw in with the Fools 100%, we should consider them a useful resource, if nothing else. we need to talk to them again, see if they can develop a speedball-derived drug that can incapacitate an organic alien without severely damaging it. We could use them to sedate and contain any that we take out, moving them to safety so we can feast on them later, when we have time, rather than have to do it mid-combat or in an unsafe setting.

The next door neighbor to the person we snatched just HAPPENED to have also been picked up by the Doc and given cyborg implants that allows her to control alien tech (not to mention a childhood friend begins acting like megabitch to us?)

Maybe Megan is under his control?

Seeing little else of interest, you head for the sofa at the end of the trail of distubed dust. The scent intensifies, and you speed up from your careful walk, stopping a step short of the couch.

We're going to have to check for trackers or bugs or whatever, and we should leave the cell phone at home.

Once we have Catherine and Daisy safe we can go back to the hideout and figure out what's going on. We should probably relocate the Professor with Catherine and Daisy, since Daisy seems to have taken to her, and she seems benign in her intent as long as we keep her dosed regularly with pheromones.

Firstly, be careful not to destroy the laptop during the fight. I doubt that there's anything useful in it, maybe it's even tracked, but hell, we could use a laptop. After all, we still need to decode that receiver.
Secondly, attack this thing while it's still in bounds. Spikes and acid, as usual.

    Yeah, my bad.

The creature is a cyborg, the ports were added on later by humans from the looks of it. The cables and such that connected it to the machine are torn off now.

It is about 3 meters tall, it's armour sleek, with reinforced joints. It's humanoid, with some tentacles on it's back, ending in a wide variety of devices, repeating energy weapons, lances, and many whose function you can't even guess at. The hands end in large talons, the legs digitrade and clawed.
