You all have probably seen this picture. I did, and realized something. There is so much potential here for a game, based solely on which party you choose.

    >Rich Arrogant Prince would normally become bro
    >But you also added Dick-Ass Thief to the party
    >Rich Arrogant Prince becomes Dick-Ass Arrogant Prince
    >Unless Seasoned Veteran Relative is in the party! He keeps both of them in line.

    >Dwarvern Mechanic becomes interested in Ancient Steam Knight
    >Upgrade!

    >Perverted Arch-Mage and the Realigned Villainous Vixen are pretty hard to control and tend to be distracted if by themselves.
    >But you got both of them! Now they are more useless because they are fucking 24/7!
    >Useless magic users...
    >Then they find Ancient Steam Knight. They see him as their adopted son!
    >They enchant the fuck out of him.
    >Becomes one hell of a tank, with both mages casting buffs on him constantly. Kills everything.
    >Happen to also have Dwarf Mechanic? Oh lord.

    >Cursed Undead Knight with Amnesia is cursed, undead, and has a strange case of amnesia.
    >Bro nonetheless.
    >Androgenous Cleric thinks he/she can help.
    >Side quest for study.
    >Divine magic up in this bitch!
    >Cursed Undead Knight with Amnesia is suddenly Uncursed, Very-Much-Alive Knight Who Remembers How Awesome He Is!
    >Epic Pally Knight

    >PTSD Veteran Archer's past tends to haunt him, and messes with his ability to function
    >Devout Dwarvern Cleric teaches him the ways of Zen and how to achieve inner peace.
    >Archer recovers and becomes Billy-Badass Archer!
    >Expert at "One shot, one kill"

The possibilities go on. So I ask you: what other possibilities can you see in this? Let's get some of that /tg/ ingenuity here.

The female characters in this are terrible. Not a single real bro amongst them, and the ones marked with high 'bro' scores are distressingly stupid.

The lesbian paladin should be more of a bro. Feeds waaaaay too much into the man hating dyke stereotype.

    Hmmmm.

    Cheerful Ambigiously-Aligned Thief.

    Power - 6
    Cunning - 9
    Magic- 2
    Brotential - 7

A fun-loving rogue with no sense of moralty but with a dogged sense of loyalty, she's following you for the chance of good loot and great times. She's sneaky, but depends a little too much on sex appeal to bamboozle prospective cons and has no real talent for magic. Bar brawling is her preferred form of combat. Bar related activities are preferred in general.

My class: Conqueror (Commander type with a breastplate, rapier, and musket. Lawful Neutral.)
Finally got the king's approval for an expedition out east to pacify and unite the tribals near our region. In addition to holding untapped wealth, the bringing the eastern regions under our banner would strengthen our kingdom and allow us to negotiate from a stronger position in our league.

    >Arrogant Prince (Neutral Good)
As a condition of the expedition, I was required to allow the King's son to accompany me. He's usually a dick, but actually pulls his own since he's more versed in political maneuvering, especially when it comes to keeping everything equipped and stocked up.

    >Perverted Archmage (True Neutral)
I'm having serious doubts about that Archmage we brought along. Sure, he was one of the best spell slingers in the kingdom, but his insistence on hitting on every woman we come across really started to take its toll when he "accidentally" groped the daughter of a tribal chieftan we were suppose to diplomatically make contact with.

    >Gunslinging Loner (Chaotic Neutral)
We met one of the most notorious outlaws in the land at our first tribal contact being harassed by bounty hunters. Although I was reluctant, the prince suggested that by granting him amnesty and sending the bounty hunters away that we could easily gain the tribe's trust and recruit a valuable asset. While I don't always agree with our newest companion, I cannot deny his skill with his weapons.

Shall we make one for Protagonists?

    Male/female Egoist/Altruist Magic/AntiMagic Brutal/Cunning Melee/Ranged Serious/Silly Realistic/Ruleofcool

Some typical axis. I am thinking Kotor, Jade empire, Arcanum, Fallout1,2, Fable, etc. games were you could create any kind of character but actually the outcomes are pretty finite.
But I guess the initial intention was focusing on jrpg cliches, so the Moody, the Pervert, the "Strong" girl would be the options. The lolified ancient hero also.

Eh, you got me. I was trying to have a good counterpart to the possessed sword villain. I suppose I need to think of this as a parody rather than a real thing. Let me try this again:

    Neighborly God-fearing Priest:
This middle-aged priest ran the church in the protagonist's hometown, and helps him escape the villain, but is captured or injured shortly after. Later, when the hero returns to the ruins of his home for a quest, the party finds the priest and frees him. He then joins your party, believing that God has blessed him and the hero. He is a master of holy magic, shows extreme politeness especially to women, children and the elderly, and prays constantly. He will have no part in any quest or action he declares sinful.

    Cunning: 5
    Magic: 6
Brotential: 8 (3 if hero or party is consistantly "sinful")

    Power - 6
    Cunning - 4
    Magic- 8
    Brotential - 7

While bards perform for others, this guy mostly appreciates music for himself. What sets him apart, however, is that he practically breathes music. It resonates within his psyche, amplifying his natural magical abilities by stirring deep emotions. The energy is modulated and subconsciously converted to produce various effects, such as soothing pain, mending souls, calling down storms or eruptions of light, or sending the melomancer into a battle frenzy.

Not all the party interactions necessarily have to be positive. This is a pretty diverse bunch from all over the spectrum. Some of them would absolutely HATE eachother.

    >Anything placed in the Loyal Family Pet's satchel is safe from theft by the Dick-Ass Thief because he is afraid of dogs (due to repeatedly running afoul them while thieving)
    >He will constantly complain that it is a menace and needs to be put down
    >Will eventually try to trick you into killing it
    >If you find a way to get him over his fear of dogs he will start stealing from Loyal Family Pet too

    >Suave Devil will try to trick Undead Knight into becoming his servant by exploiting his amnesia
    >If you let it go on he will succeed, and Undead Knight will gain infernal magic but begin to despise the living

    >Female Law Enforcement Paladin will tip off authorities to evil party member's locations when in town
    >If you dont get her to stop party members may be arrested and will have to be freed
    >Eventually the evil members will conspire to have her suffer an "accident"

Still plenty of room for more ideas. Another villain could be someone who's being forced to help the BBEG, possibly because someone he cares for is being held hostage. I'd say an honourbound master swordsman.

    How about this?
Bitter, tormented Favored Soul / Retired Paladin / Ex-Cleric (pick one)
    Power - 7
    Cunning - 1
    Magic- 8
    Brotential - 3

After years in service of good, he has seen too much. Too much evil, too much depravity, too much suffering, too many horrors that haunt his nightmares. Eventually his faith in the triumph of good waned and he abandoned a life of adventure to take refuge in a tavern. When he sees the younger generation shining with idealism, he pities them, knowing what awaits them in their journeys. With his faith in higher powers, and in himself, at an all-time low, he would be an unlikely traveling companion, but the signs of a familiar evil emerging might sway him. Though his ability to wield divine powers may or may not have suffered considerably, he has a lifetime of experience to fall back on, knowledge he can pass on to the next generation, and perhaps one last chance at igniting the light in his heart. If he can stay sober long enough.

another difference would be that Cleiric kid wouldn't care as much about 'sinful' stuff

Fuck it I'll just throw around some ideas:

    Angsty Mary Sue Warrior
This guy always seems to have everything handed to him by fate, but all he does is angst about irrelevant stuff in his past. He's too cool for everything, and all the female NPCs want his dick. His sword is a foot taller than he is, and his only unique feature is his unfeasibly large, spiky, and off-color hair. One of the major villains on your journey is revealed to be his father or half-brother or clone or something. He only joins the party because he believes he is destined to defeat the evil facing the kingdom. When it turns out to be you, he has a mental breakdown.

    Power: 9
    Cunning: 2
    Magic: 6
    Brotential: 2

    Time-Displaced Confused Soldier
Due to the actions of the villain, a rip in space-time caused a soldier from the 21st century on his way home to be sent to the time the game takes place in. His assault rifle only has about 25 bullets in it, and otherwise all he has to fight with are one grenade and a combat knife. He's a good guy, but he's desparate to return to his own time and his wife and children, and may go against the party if someone gives him a chance to.

    Power: 8
    Cunning: 7
    Magic: 0

    Lazy False Idol Queen
On your quest, your party sails to a small jungle-dense island several miles offshore. In the jungle you discover a tribe of primitive people worshipping a young woman who discovered the island years before and coincidentally looked similar to the tribe's Sun Goddess. She joins your cause to ensure her island is not taken over or destroyed, taking along several of her greatest warriors. She does little for herself, her bodyguards carrying her around, fighting for her, feeding her, etc. but she also has access to large amounts of a rare mineral only found on her island that can be sold for a high price or made into high-quality weapons and armor.

    Power: 1 (Bodyguards 8)
    Cunning: 8 (Bodyguards 3)
    Magic: 0 (Bodyguards 3)
Brotential: 6 (Bodyguards 8, if you respect their queen)

    Wise Travelling Merchant
Originally a jolly reoccuring NPC who shows up across the kingdom selling various goods to the party, but when he witnesses the villain or the villain's forces destroy a village he decides to join you. He has a large, ever-changing stock of useful items for the party, and can get discounts and higher sell prices from other merchants. He knows every travel route by heart and knows the quickest way to anywhere. He can carry an immense amount in his gigantic backpack that he never takes off, and doesn't trust thieves.

    Power: 1
    Cunning: 10
    Magic: 2
Brotential: 10 (-2 for every rogue or thief in the party)

Refuses to harm another living thing and always tries to handle things with tact and diplomacy. Violence, loss of life and the suffering of others trouble him deeply and he spends most of his time tending to the sick, the injured and the destitute, and trying to educate others to the virtues of goodness, neglecting his own well-being. He would willingly and gladly give all his food, water and money if it would help another, and seems to have an everlasting reserve of stamina and faith.
By the end of the adventure he'll either be dead, killed by thugs or tyrants, or he'll have had an apotheosis. Either way, everywhere he goes, people will remember him for a long time.

    Zealous Evil Cleric

    Power - 7
    Cunning -6
Magic - varies depending on number and quality of recent sacrifices
Brotential - 2 (8 if you convert to his god and +1 for each additional converted party member)

A follower of an evil god who aids you in your quest only because the BBEGs plot conflicts with his gods own plans. He gains magical power from sacrificing injured or captured enemies in bloody rituals to his god. To this end he tries to leave as many foes alive, but incapacitated, as possible. He has a moderate understanding of healing magics, but most of his spells are offensive. Will constantly speak of the superiority of his god and attempt to convert you and the rest of the party. Is amused by, and condescending towards, devotees of good aligned gods.

Instead of classes we should have background stories like in DA:O that effect stats:

Mysterious Asskicking Wanderer (Kenshiro, Conan the Barbarian, Vash the Stampede)
No one is sure where you come from. One day you just showed up and made yourself at home. But what everyone does know is that you can royally fuck up anyone that tries to mess with you or your friends. You start out with higher combat-related stats than normal, but since you are used to just being a loner you don’t get along with others well.

Grimdark Antihero (Guts, Batman, The Punisher)
Those bastards took your village/lover/family/virginity/etc. from you, and now THEY’RE GONNA PAY! Your constant thirst for vengeance and nihilistic demeanor strikes fear in the hearts of your enemies and causes more lawful good characters to view you as no better than the villains they’re fighting. On the other hand you have an unnatural affinity to dark and destructive magic powers and abilities, and you can use abnormally huge weapons with relative ease.

Great Destiny Person (Luke Skywalker, Superman, Aragorn)
You weren’t born some much as a dragon descended from the heavens to lay you on the doorstep of your adoptive parents at midnight when the planets aligned and the elders predicted the coming of a great savior. As a result, you got a lot to live up to. Your friends and regular npcs will be much more willing to help you on your epic quest for…something. Everyone is a fickle SOB though, so the minute you screw up is the minute everyone outside your party becomes a hostile douche towards you.

WARRIOR OF JUSTICE (Kamen Rider, Kamina, God Tier Paladins)
THE HEAVENS HAVE GRANTED YOU THE POWER TO BRING JUSTICE AND PEACE TO THE WORLD! ALL ENEMIES OF GOOD SHALL TREMBLE IN YOUR PATH AS YOU WAGE YOUR CRUSADE OF FREEDOM AND JUSTICE! SO LONG AS YOU STAY STRICTLY TO MOST LAWFUL AND GOOD PATH, YOU SHALL POSSESS THE PHENOMAL COSMIC POWER OF LOVE AND PEACE! ALSO YOU CAN’T HELP BUT BE LOUD AND HAMMY NO MATTER THE SITUATION BUT FEAR NOT! THERE IS NO WAY THIS WILL EVER BECOME PROBLEMATIC FOR YOU!

Dashing Rogue (Damn near every role Errol Flynn has ever had)
Ha-ha! You live for nothing more than fame, fortune, and animalistic lust. Your years of adventuring have granted you with excellent speed, cunning, and a way with anyone you choose. However, the authorities don’t take kindly to your antics, and your reliance on fleet of foot means you are more vulnerable to powerful physical and magical attacks.

    Regular Dude (self explanatory)
You are a boring level 1 commoner. You have no advantages but no disadvantages either. Good for you.

Nerd From Beyond the Realm (Captain N, The Avatar , YOU)
One day you were minding your own business trolling a forum when suddenly a portal sucked you into the Land of Bro Quest. Sucks to be you bro. Years of solitary life has cursed you with much lower initial stats. But you had time to plan, and can bring five items of choice from the modern world.

I have an idea for a new hero

    John

A tall, muscular and handsome guy who is also quite smart. His only problem is that he hates every single one of you. He joins the party expecting to single-handedly one-hit the BBEG while the other party members do jack shit. He is also quite the womanizer.

    Power - 9
    Cunning - 9
    Magic - 0
Brotential - 3 (+1 for every female party member and noncumulative +1 for every other party member with a power of 9 or higher)

    Hey Faggots,

My name is John, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, retarded, no-lifes who spend every second of their day looking at stupid ass pictures. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten any pussy? I mean, I guess it's fun making fun of people because of your own insecurities, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than jerking off to pictures on facebook.

Don't be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I'm pretty much perfect. I was captain of the football team, and starter on my basketball team. What sports do you play, other than "jack off to naked drawn Japanese people"? I also get straight A's, and have a banging hot girlfriend (She just blew me; Shit was SO cash). You are all faggots who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.

    An obvious female character:

    Girl Next Door White Mage

    Power-3
    Cunning-6
    Magic-8
    Brotential-8

A staff using healer girl who joins you soon after your quest begins. She's feisty and smarter than you might think, but still is prone to getting kidnapped by the bad guys. A cute girly girl, she wears a dress or skirt even in combat.

    I got one.

    Creepy Pale Necromancer
    Power - 1
    Cunning - 6
    Magic - 10
Brotential - 4 (Can grow to 8 if you spend long period of time with him conversing with him)

A weedy young adept he is extremely skilled in the field of the dark arts of magic, especially necromancy. He is, however, extremely unskilled at most everything else and very physically weak, with little muscle and a pale complexion he shirks from any melee. Without prompting him he will spend the adventure skulking in the shadows, silently staring at the rest of the party. he lacks any social skills at all and has never had a friend. However given enough time conversing with him and asking questions about his necromatic arts, he will appreciate you as his friend and his only real one, as such he will become incredibly loyal to you if a bit clingy. Only conversing him about magic, death and the undead will really interest him as he has no real interest in any other subjects, although you may lead him to a new interest. He is also extremely attached to his raised undead, viewing them as his friends, giving them names and conversing with them although they do not respond. If an undead construct of his is destroyed he becomes extremely distressed, if unrepairable he becomes traumatised by the event. His construct can come from a horde of undead skeletal minions, one large powerful undead conglomeration or he can cast spells to leach life off the living. he has a clear distrust of other living people who have not befriended him, viewing them as judging him and he frequently takes to sulking if you do not try and stop this behaviour.

This guy's a looker, but he's a little... off. He might have seen the face of some madness god or perhaps he's been by himself for too long. Dissociative Sorcerer Pariah
This glassy-eyed sorcerer was moved by a member of your party when he decided to join. He reveals little about himself and often confuses reality and dreams. If treated well by all of your party, he opens up and has moments of clarity where he can be empathetic and kind. If treated poorly, he becomes cruel and sadistic and is unreluctant to destroy any "nightmares" he perceives. In combat he uses magical shields and area of effect spells.

    charming psychopath

joining the hero's party because he thinks evil must be stopped this adventurer is later discovered to have no human emotions.
he has no magic potential but is moderatly good with the sword and crossbow, his code is flexible so he will tolerate the hero being a dick for a while, but if he decided he had enough he will try to kill the hero in his sleep after the villain is defeated.
able to put on a charming facade it's almost impossible to know what he truly is.

The Lizardman Praetorian is basically just a reptilian version of the Amazon. The Male Schizoid Fighter is too similar to several other fighters, and isn't even a "bro" in the slightest. The Lazy False Idol Queen? REALLY?

    The Bipolar Elemental

An extremely moody elemental prone to wildly fluctuating fits of emotion. The element present in it's structure and at it's command depends on the emotion being experienced. If joyful, it commands the wind. If angry, it commands fire. If sad, it commands water. If calm, it commands earth. Tends to be the cause for a lot of party drama, but never understands why everyone tends to become frustrated with it. Depending on how it's treated, it will more often be one emotion and element state more so than the others.

    (Joy, Anger, Sadness, Calm)

    Power - (4, 8, 2, 5)
    Cunning - (4, 3, 5, 5)
    Magic - (6, 5, 8, 6)
    Brotential - (8, 2, 3, 6)

    tossin in my concept...

    Your Hot Sister
Returns home from years of training in the way of the sword to help you save the world. Very protective and fusses over you a lot, making it more difficult to romance other characters. She's more than comfortable with using her good looks and generous assets to flirt her way out of trouble and into getting discounts. No real magic, but has a blade that has a chance to repel magical attacks and is quick and powerful. Has a very specific conversation path to romance her
    Power: 7 Cunning: 7 Magic: 0 Brotential: 8

    I'm willing.

    Possible Super Secret Guardian Ninja?

So what if you've never seen or heard him, you are almost 80% sure he is in the party...
After all, those 'accidents' that happened to your enemies couldn't have been caused by chance circumstances alone, right? I mean, remember that ogre that was about to charge you and just HAPPENED to trip right into a Burmese Tiger trap? What are the chances of that happening by accident? So he has to exist... Right?
    .....
    Right?

    Power - ?
    Cunning - ?
    Magic - ?
    Brotential - ?

    Sister?

Well then might as well go the whole family, what with the other relative around.

    - Awesome Father
    - Awesome Mother
    - Awesome Brother

and then there's the main character.

    Crippled Spymaster.

He is a veteran of multiple wars. Hired by may kings and others he is a cynical disillusioned spy who has lost his leg and sight to horrible wars and has been through hell. He is not as strong as he used to be but he has made up for it by learning magic to replace his lost sight with something more and making himself an armored leg. Your dogged determination allows him to regain faith in others and see once more.

    Power: 3
    Cunning : 8
    Magic: 6
Brotential: 4 to start ( 6 later on)

Main character is a total loser, and the game you play is his/her trek to greatness like the rest of the family.

Like a coming of age story, except the rite of passage for this family is saving the world and such.

You need the Elven Time Mage to finish unlocking the character.

Hyper Redneck Baby from the Future.

This is the bastard child that resulted from your romance of your sister. Channeling through the power of your Elven Time Mage, he came back in order to try and kill the villain before you and your sister have time to do the nasty, thus stopping his tortured existence to ever come about in the first place. You get the sense he doesn't like you, but the only thing stopping him from killing you outright is his belief that you are needed in order to kill the villain.

    Power - 6
    Cunning - 1
    Magic - 4
Brotential - 1 (9 if you give him the cathartic release he so desperately needs and you two work through your issues.)
