Let's get this show on the road! Typing, so report in folks, post any questions you might have, or discuss quest related things.

Also, is 4chan fucked up for anyone else? The board is no longer blue, greentext and email doesn't colour, etc. This might be a problem on my end, though.

    >> Recap! Brain In A Jar !2he8cbHXgM 08/31/11(Wed)16:57 No.16133368
You are a strange creature, capable of taking over other lifeforms to serve as your vessel. Your current host, Jack Winters, was unbeknownst to you a drug addict, and overdosed on speedball. To survive, you bonded with him, but this damaged you, leaving you separated from the bodysnatcher command structure. An individual by accident, you are hunted by the cyborg aliens, the forces guided by the illuminati called the Wise, and your own kin.

The Fools managed to call you without alerting the Wise, and gave you an offer. You refused it, and clued in Richard, who, while giving out orders, due to you eavesdropping unwittingly revealed his suspicion that one of the Wise is leading the Fools. Returning home, you agreed to accompany Catherine to a meeting with her sister, where you had to stay outside because of some bad blood between her and Jack. A Fools assasin struck you down, and you awoke in a morgue, supposedly at a base in Sweden.

    >> Abilities! Brain In A Jar !2he8cbHXgM 08/31/11(Wed)16:58 No.16133382
    Your known abilities are:
    - reinforcing your muscle and bone tissue, making you several times stronger, faster and tougher
    - growing weapons from your arms, limited to one on each arm in any combination:a hooked, double edged blade on your forearm, claws, a spike that springs out from your wrist underneath your palm or launchable bone spikes
    - hardening your skin into thick, segmented bone plate armor resistant to heat and energy weapons, and growing a membrane under your skin, that contains fluid that hardens on impact
    - absorbing ingested organic material, that you can use to increase muscle and bone density(animal tissue is the most effective)
    - the ability to call forth your host's memories, skills and knowledge
    - altering your appearance, includin skin\hair\eye colour, facial features, height, build, and gender, though the more elaborate the change is, the more time and effort it takes.
    - producing almost any kind of drug, poison or acid in liquid form, including sedatives, that you can deliver via gasses, at high pressure from an opening that can be created anywhere on your body, or through the wristspike.
    - producing special material that can be a flaming liquid sprayed out, a flammable gas or a sticky jelly on fire
    - emitting pheromones that influence humans
    - sensing the mind-link of bodysnatchers
    >> More Abilities! Brain In A Jar !2he8cbHXgM 08/31/11(Wed)16:59 No.16133387
    - enhanced senses, capable of switching to different spectrums (infravision, ultrasound, noise filtering, etc.)
    - fiber-optic nervous system, allowing you to ignore pain to some extent, and speeding up your reflexes by orders of magnitude
    - a pair of leathery wings growing from your shoulder blades, with a bio-fuel fed jet system underneath it, allowing you extremely fast aerial movement
    - superhuman sense of balance
    - four combat tentacles
    - sonic vibrator drums that can cause disorientation, loss of balance and nausea on a wider area or severe pain and internal damage when focused. The effect magnifies the more drums you use.
    - combat tendrils that can be shot out to a few dozen meters, they are a centimeter in diameter, as strong as steel cable, and have hooked ends that lodge themselves into objects or enemies
    >> Mutations! Brain In A Jar !2he8cbHXgM 08/31/11(Wed)17:00 No.16133403
    Mutations:
    -Perfect Predator
Noise-level sense, body better optimised for stealth, invisible to digital sensors and leaves no scent
    -Monstrous Strength
Increased strength, speed, and leaping distance
    -Armoured Juggernaut
Massive armour, capable of deflecting most attacks and weathering the rest.
    -Master of Arms
    Improved bodysnatcher weapons

Quickly stepping inside the elevator, you scan the possible floors, from -4 to 5 with an extra stop at the very top marked "Experimental Vehicle Bay, Authorised Access Only". There doesn't seem to be any ID card readers or keypads like in the Wise base.

With an afterthought, you close the wounds you yourself made as camouflage. The labcoat made out of your flesh shivers and changes back when you hear a surprised cry from the soldiers who rushed past beside you. They found the two sedated doctors. Their boots thunder on the floor as they sprint back, but you relax, your heightened nervous system giving you all the time you need to make a decision.

    Wat do?

(Last thread, people suggested smashing your way out on the ground floor or sneaking aboard a craft in the vehicle bay, with Magus advocating doubling back from a different level to confuse your enemies)

For those who don't remember - by that he means "blasted your brain out of your skull". Literally. The Fools were conviced that now we're just a vegatable; still healing, but mindless. But they don't know that we're not what we claimed to be. Our mutations probably also have something to do with that.

I still say we smash our way out of a 5th story window, fly off, then double back and lurk under the 'experimental vehicle bay' exit point, wait for one to launch, then hitch a ride on it.

It would be good to break into office of some high up to gain some information, but we don't know where it is, and we're not in position to stumble around. We may be big, bad alien, but there are still things bigger and badder than us, and Fools already proved that we shouldn't underestimate them. Go for wehicle bay, but Magus plan is also reasonable.

short answer: we don't know. The conventional rules of life, even as applies to bodysnatchers, don't seem to apply to us anymore. I think it's a side effect of the Protean Nature mutation.

We have no idea. We're a mutant, an aberration amongst our own kind. Bodysnatchers replace most of host's brain matter, but some of it remains. We did that too, but now round from sniper rifle changed that. We should be dead or braindead, and yet we recovered, though it took us three days.

You punch in the button for the fifth floor, and wave at the soldiers sliding to a halt at the end of the hall. The doors slide closed, and you armour yourself, explosive rounds slamming into the small space. The several inches thick bone stops them dead, the explosions leaving little charred marks on the surface. The elevator moves, going up for a full ten seconds before stopping with a lurch.

"Oh, come on." You sigh, then form tentacles, appearing forth with incredible speed, the blades at their tips ripping a rectangle out of the roof. You turn them into claws, and lift yourself up into the shaft above. The cable obtrusive enough to prevent flying, you extend your fingers and toes into talons, and skitter up along the wall like a spider, eight limbs propelling you up at a steady pace with a series of sharp tacks, the bones sinking into the concrete.

The wall explodes out as you exit, bludgeoning three soldiers laying in ambush for you, six more freezing in surprise. Their heartbeats betrayed their positions, and you shred the rest apart with a barrage of spikes from tentacles and arms.

You can see windows a few dozen meters to your left and right, a single hallway leading deeper into the building in front of you. You can see a large sign saying "Server Room" adorning a doorway at the very end of it.

    Wat do?

if the fallen guards have any grenades on them, then toss 1/4th of them down the elevator shaft, and the rest into the server room. We don't have the tie or talent for detailed computer espionage at the moment. Best we can do is destroy as much of their infrastructure on our way out as we can.

I say we have a listen and use our enhanced senses to fully assess the area. If we find the server room to be safe to enter, as far as we can tell, we tear in there and see if we can find anything. Always keep an ear out for anybody on their way, so we should also prepare our aerial abilities (jet stuff, whatever it was), so we can surprise our foes with sudden bursts of speed.

On a side note, has anyone here seen the movie Planet 51? The human convinces two native guards that he's turned them into brainless zombie servants because A: They're idiots, and B: They don't know he can't. I say we do something similar. Drug up a soldier or two (sodium pentathol at the least) and trick them into thinking we've already snatched their body and that they should be helping us.

Casually sedating one of the remaining three guards, you dose the other two with a very minor anaestethic, just enough to confuse them and leave a numb sensation behind. They look up with terror at you. You smile pleasently.

"Okay, here's the situation. I've already put bodysnatchers inside you two. The'yre working, and you have a little time before they're done. There's no way to remove them, or undo the process." They seem to be in complete shock. "Now, you've got two choices. One, you resist, and I make it very, VERY painful for you. Or, you help me, and I'll make sure you stay the smae person afterwards. How's that sound, becoming as close as anyone can get to an immortal god? I mean, they shot me in the fucking head, and I'm still here!"

They seem to consider it. One of them speaks up. "I'll do it." The other soldiers tries to pull out a grenade. "FUCK YOU MAN!" The tendril lashes out, pumping a venom that causes only pain into the back of his head. He screams, and drops the grenade, his comrade looking at his convulsions with an ashen face. He stops struggling, and between wheezes, he shriek "I'll help, please just make it stop, please!"

You inject an antidote, and gesture towards the elevator shafts. "Throw in a couple of grenades, then follow me." You head off to the server room without looking back, grinning when you hear multiple explosions behind you.

The server room is empty, a cup of coffe cooling on a table. Must have evacuated quite quickly. Row upon row of computers line the walls, with a two desks with several monitors occupying the rest. The soldiers look inside nervously, unclear on what they should do.

You can hear them stop, then one of them answers back. "No sir, we aren't permitted up there. Mostly KP-21s and a few jets, as far as we know."

They step out with two military green bags heavy with hard drives."You two stay here, got it? I'll be back in a minute." You take the bags, and sprint down the corridor in a blur, stopping by a window. You can see some kind of military complex around the building, a barbed wire fence surrounding it. "I'm going to be away from the phone for a few seconds, got some incoming hostiles." You put the phone down on a desk, and run to the stairway. Turning a finger into a thin claw, you poke a hole through the door, then stick a tentacle to it, starting to pour gas into the stairs beyond. After a few seconds, you step aside, the soldiers running up, almost reaching the door before faltering. You hear a few of them fall, and the steel beside you is torn to pieces by gunfire, halting after another two or three seconds.

You count to ten, then open the door, and lift up six of the men lying unconscious, one in each arm and tentacle. After a second trip down, you have all of them propped up against a wall in a neat line. Jogging back to the room you were in before the interruption, you pick up the phone again.

"I'm back. So, how's Daisy holding up? Did she try to find Cath?" "Daisy was, devastated after you dissapeared. It was hard to tell her you died, and she kept insisting that you'll be back, even though she couldn't find you through the mind-link. She's been reclusive, barely eating or speaking. She's going to be terribly obnoxious about being right for the next few day." She laughs, tired. "Anything is better than the way things were, really. And Catherine kept herself hidden these past few days, she couldn't find her. Belive me, she tried."

There's something happening up there that we don't know about, and it has them afraid. The whole thing with Catherine on television is only worse. Personally, I like to think of the creature(mutant, hybrid bodysnatcher, protagonist, Not-Jack Winters, whatever) as a blank slate. You are dominated by four things. What remained of your bodysnathcer instincts (survival, agression towards cyborgs, absorption), some of what seeped in from Jack (loyalty to those you think of as friends or family, a sort of laid back attitude), what you pretended to be and stuck with, and what you observed and learned from those you allied yourself with. Your true nature is still unseen, but this compromises what you have as far as personality goes.

But I guess we're not alone in that. A freak accident made us capable of independent thought and rebellion against our own kind, and...whatever Catherine is now is kind of in the same boat. Not fully a cyborg invader but something else, something far more powerful...

Maybe we've been looking at this wrong. Instead of trying to appeal to her human side we COULD actually reveal more of what we are. Our unique standing in this conflict might appeal more to what she is now, than any sort of emotional attachments we had before this whole thing started.

I don't know, maybe it is time to give up this whole charade. The world is currently up shit creek it seems, we might need to step up our own game a bit to keep up.

"I wouldn't worry." You take the bags from them, and hang them on your shoulders. "I mean, it's not like I actually infected you guys. You're still one hundrer percent human. Anyway, I'm in a hurry, thanks for the help, and sweet dreams." Harold manages to get as far as "Wha-" before the tendrils strike them, administering a safe dose of sedative. You catch them as they begin to fall, and settle them on the floor in what looks like a vaguely comfortable position, then walk to a window. Wings and jets forming, you open it and leap out, flying up to the next floor with a quiet burst, no louder then a firecracker. In front of you is the hangar door, and you open it slowly, just enough to crawl inside, then close it again just as carefully. It's pitch dark inside, and your eyes adjust, becoming black orbs, the better to catch any stray light with. You can see a few VTOLs, Wise issue KP-21s, around you, and a bright source of light about thirty meters ahead. You shield your eyes, the light too strong, and decrease the sensitivity.

It's Megan. She has some sort of bracelet that projects a few holographic images, and she's thinkering with it somehow while humming tunelessly. Her white tank top allows you to see someting bulging along her back like an extension of her spine, blue light running along ractangles with rounded down edges. She's standing about ten meters above ground on top of something large, a long and slender metallic object, seemingly crafted from one piece.

It's an HK. Large spikes jut from where it's segments meet. It seems inert. For now.

Well, you have the tendrils, almost completely silent, and probably capable of killing someone, though their main use is sticking into larger and stronger enemies, then pulling them in, or slamming them around like the Hunter did to you. Alternatively, they can be sued to absorb someone from a distance or pump material inside.

Spikes are meant to be as lethal as possible, and you can change their size from tootphick to as thick as your forearm. They cause some sound as they are shot out, but it's not very loud.

Then you have your gasses of course, hard to deliver at this range, but still very effective, and absolutely silent.

And then there are the sonic vibrator drums. They operate on a frequency beyond human hearing, and a concentrated blast can cause harm to a human. If several are used, it would likely result in death after a second or so. It can be used for stunning as well.

You lay the bags down lightly, careful not to make noise. You can feel the digital cloaking turn on, an almost imperceptible buzz surrounding you. Sneaking through the hangar, your bare feet change, gaining soft pads, the sensor in your head showing that you make almost no sound, well beyond what even a lesser bodysnatcher could hear. When you reach the foot of the support platform underneath the HK you stop, staring tensely at Megan's silhouette before leaping on the cyborg warmachine. The sound of you landing is painfully loud, though your senses show that it is still outside human hearing even at this close a distance. You take a few steps forward, then lash out with the tendrils, watching as they bury themselves in her back. She gasps as the sedative starts pumping into her. Then you're tendrills are cut in half.

The ends still attached to you spray blood and drug alike at the shimmering dome of air suddenly around her, the force field flaring up in irregular patches of blue where the fluids hit it. A cool impersonal voice booms up from underneath you, it's words pulled out from a library of recorded sounds making the sentences sound disconnected. "Physical assault on user Abbazio, Megan detected. Countermeasures deployed. Systems operational in... Error. User connection unstable. Reconfiguring. Estimated time until reboot... fortyfive seconds." Megan drops to her knees, then turns around, sitting down, hands out by the side to support her. "You know, I was just trying to disable that function. It's really annoying." She smiles, and gives you a little wave. "Hello, Jack. You're still alive. Now that's what I call tenacity."

Your flesh flows as it forms the thickest armour you can produce, and you start pounding an tearing at the hull of the HK. In a second, you have torn out a meter deep hole into it, flinging pieces of it's innards away at supersonic speed, each movement of your arms followd by a boom as you throw handfuls of machinery aside. You can hear a whining noise before it's shield activvates, but you keep at it, the edges of the field digging into the armour. After another second, you pull out of the jagged tear, two sizzling cuts on you where the alien technology eventually triumphed over your protection. "That's pretty rude. I just got this ride and you're already trashing it."

Megan still sits in the same position. The voice booms from underneath you. "Damage assesed. Secondary systems are at sixty four percent. Weapon system three through seven have received critical damage. Core functions are at ninety nine percent." She smiles at you with a haughty expression. "Oh, by the way, before you went all walking tank on me, you were rocking the shirtless look pretty hard. I guess being an alien shapeshifting killing machine does wonders for one's abs." She giggles. "Look at me, gushing like a schoolgirl. Let's talk business. The question is, can you take the field down and cripple my little baby here in..." The HK answers. "Thirty five seconds." She pats the hull beneath her." Thirty five seconds, or, failing that, will you stay and fight it?" She beams, the very picture of innocent helpfulness. "Maybe you could run like a scared little bitch?"

I would assume that the HK would have had the cyborg consciousness stuff ripped out of it and would be directly controlled by Megan who's full of sedatives. With our super-speed reflexes we would run circles around it in that situation. We probably shouldn't bet our life on it though, even if we can come back from the dead - they know about that this time and we won't escape so easily again. Given that we don't really have any anti-force-field weaponry running like a scared little bitch is pretty tempting.
In conclusion: we should stay and fight because I really hate Megan. Hit it with everything we've got and pray.

You shut her out of your thoughts, and will away the massive armour on you. You aren't hurt too bad, but the seared furrows still pain you as tentacles and arms shift into the sonic weapons. Frowning in concentration, you set them to inflict maximum damage, and aim down at the bulk below. The drums scream, adn nothing seems to happen, but after two seconds, the force field quivers and distorts, waves running through it. "Hey! That's not fair! I get something cool and you already know a way to beat it! Screw you, asshole." She flips you the bird, then slips off the hull, rolling to the ground on two tentacles the HK extends. As she gets clear of it, the cyborg darts up suddenly, aiming for the roof. You try to jump off, only to find a bubble formed around you this time, only parting a milimeter before your head would reach the reinfroced concrete. You burst through it, slightly concussed, and the black machine spins underneath you. Your hands try to grip it, sliding off the invisible barrier around it, and you plumet, growing wings and thrusters mid air.

You dodge to the side when the HK comes barelling towards you like an insectoid train, and clips you, a wing braking from the whiplash as you are sent swirling in the air. The roof rushes towards you, and the shock-absorbants reduce the impact as you roll along the edge of the building. You start healing your wing, trying to pull it back into shape with tendrils, the bones slowly piecing back together. Megan shouts from the hangar. "Twenty five seconds, motherfucker! Run or die!" The warmachine seems to hang effortlessly in the air, late evening light glistening on the carapace-like steel.

I still think we need to start working on more basic biological programming. Namely, nanoscale-powers. I mean, if we can control our cells in such a way as to alter matter on a chemical level, we'll be able to become far more powerful than we are now. No long will we be bound by the conventional limits of organic life, as we will be able to create biology from anything. Silicon, iron, uranium, all of these will be for us as living tissues are now. Edible, and extremely useful.

The HK soars towards you as you unleash bone spikes at it, drums screeching as they send wave after wave at it, constantly switching frequency. You leap away from it at the last second, keeping up the barrage on it... and then fall down the hole in the roof. Landing on your feet, Megan flinches back in surprise, trying to flee. From a contemptous blast of a drum, her knees buckle and she falls on her side. Tendrils flash, starting to pour sedative at a measured pace, trying to figure out the amount she already received so as not to overdose her. "Fuck you, Jack. Fuck. You let loose burst after burst of spikes, keeping the sonic weapon aimed at it, pouring as much power into them. The shield barely reacts, an almost imperceptible shiver running through it at the most. The mass of weapons charge, and the air seems to wail in terror. You dive, the heat of the discharge enough to sear your wings, making the leather crack. You swoop down and drop Megan into the arms of a soldier staring slackjawed at the battle, then zip up again, waeving and bobbing to present a harder target. Even with all six limbs free, you can't pierce the shield. You resolve to do something stupid. Something possubly suicidal. Something that could win thsi for you. You accelarate, heading straight towards it at breakneck speed. Air parts before you with a boom, but you keep speeding up. A skirt of vapour trails after you, but it's still not enough. Everything becomes a blur, and you swerve, your wings screeching in protest at the strain. A bladed tentacle extended at a sharp angle, you soar paralell to the HK, pushing the weapon against the shield with all your might. The bone screams and you scream with it, a bloodred haze clouding your eyes as it explodes into a thousand flaming shrouds.

You fall for a score of meters, then take wing again, gritting your teeth as you launch into another assault. You harden the bone more, and grit your teeth as the blade bites into the barrier, crumbling before you travel the cyborgs full length. The shield, however, pops out of existance for a moment. You drop, the protection hindering your flight, but you use it, shifting back, slingshotting up against it. With a wordless
cry of challenge, you hurtle towards it one more time, your body a seething mass of pain despite the muted signals of your neuro-transmitters. The blade strikes, and the shield wobbles underneath, sickly green and urine yellow sparks erupting. It collapses, and an explosion almost rips the virus-ridden cyborg in half.

We determined last thread that we can use the mindlink to show images in our mind even to normal people who lack a link, right? Get very close to her face, look at her in the eyes when she is helpless and say "Jack is dead."

    And kill her afterwards.
Anyway, if we stabilize from this fight (I don't think we will fully heal for at least a day) we really should get back to the base.

I suggest we use our senses to search for nearby big animals (bears, moose, etc) and eat them alive.

You struggle to get on your feet, limping as fast as you can away from the base. When you feel that you've put enough distance between yourself and the soldiers, you start snapping branches and hungrily chewing down on them. You regain a little energy, enough to show you how weary and hungry you really are, and you start biting the trees, ripping out mouthfuls and swallowing them desperately, strong acid dissolving it in your stomach. A startled squirrel falls out of the canopy, and you snatch it mid-air, slam it against a trunk a few times, then unhinge your jaw, simply stuffing it down your throat.

After half an hour of frenzied feeding, you collapse at the foot of an oak, taking list of your wounds and woes. Your tentacles hang limpy by your side, mangled and unmoving. Your wings hang in tatters, completely useless. The rest of you is gaunt and skeletal, functional but weak. Even basic things such as forming armour would be difficult right now. You lean back, VTOLs buzzing in the skies above, dozens of men shouting at the base.

You know, to just about everything else on the planet, we are just a nearly omniscient entity for which classification is difficult. But to those we care about or who prove useful, we've _chosen_ to be Jack. I think we kind-of enjoy being Jack too. It's a comfortable persona. A bit of a fixer-upper, but still comfortable. For cath, Kellery, Daisy, even the Wise, we're jack. But Megan? She took herself off our Jack list. I think we'd have gone to the wall for her, sided against the Wise, done just about anything. But she had to be a bitch. Well, if she doesn't want us to be Jack, then she's just another piece of noisy meat.

A senior looking soldier snaps at him. "It's Doctor Smith you idiot. Sir, I thought you were in Brazil." You wave impatiently at him. "I was reassigned when the body of the mutated bodysnatcher came here. Now, could someone tell me why you are huddled around an infected person without any protective gear?" You almost can't resist laughing when they scramble away from her, terrified. "Get me a truck. Enviromentally sealed. Give me four of your men as an escort. I've got a VTOL prepped for such a contingency seven clicks south of here. We got hit by EMP." You look around at the personel staring at you. "Could someone get moving before those two monsters come back to settle things?" They rush around, and five minutes later, you are in a white van, driving on a dirt road, four armed men in the back. After you feel that you're safe enough, you pull over, step out and walk to the back door. The men jump out, suspicious. "Where's that downed bird of yours Doc?" You raise your hands, smiling pleasently. "There's a perfectly good explanation for that." "Let's hear it then."

You open your mouth, as if to speak, and barbed combat tendrils burst out of it, sedating and pulling down the men to the ground. Satisfied, you nod, and try to figure out how to continue. Before you realise, you are chewing on a finger, ripped from the hand of a soldier. You seem to ahve already eaten two more of his fingers. You crunch it down, and notice how very tasty they look. His career as a gunman is already over, right? Three fingers missing, what difference would one or two make, right?

"Megan. I could have held out for you. Really, I could have. The memory of you was half the reason I didn't assimilate properly into the hive mind. I had to stay Jack. I had to protect you. And I could have, too. I could have stayed Jack forever. But you broke his heart. All those years, all that pain he suffered for you. He really loved you like a sister. When you betrayed hi, he simply gave up. Gave in. Let me win. He's still in here, you know. Still crying, too, when I allow him to wake up. I can't kill him entirely, but at least I can protect him from the knowledge that you're the one who murdered him. Oh, don't worry. I have special plans for you. I'm not nearly as attached as Jack was, not after everything you've done to him." --Grin wickedly, then dose her with LSD and use the mind-link to make her relive Jack's jail time while tripping.

After you finish and filter out the LSD, you step back a little, and watch her as she shivers, trying to lay still. Some time later, she opens her eyes, looking at you with a profound hatred. "Whoever you are, whatever you are, you're not getting anything from me." You lean above her, showing her your hand with the palm upwards.

"Now, Megan, that was just the warm up. A little reminder, about how you screwed up, what you wasted. See, I've got these wriggly little bastards here." Tiny tendrils extend from the tips of your fingers, and you make them sway their tips around, like they are blindly searching for prey. "And, I'm going to shove them inside you. They're going to go all around, and tell me if you have any little surprises hidden. Then, they are going to swarm into your brain, take itsy bitsy bites out of it, and bring it straight back to me." You turn the palm downwards, and place it on her naked arm. She tries to pull away, the straps going taut. You lightly put a hand on her chest, holding her down. She spits at you, and you look at her with a mixture of pity and compassion. "Now now, don't move around. I'm not very good at this yet, so I might break a few things. Your memories, ability to walk, talk, think. Who knows?" You laugh, almost embarassed. "I'm not a brainsurgeon, after all."

She screams as the tendrils scan through her, first looking over the implants. Her spine seems to be further modified to allow remote control of an HK. Not much else seems to be added to her, so your turn to her brain. You don't find out much, beyond something about her surgery lasting hours and hours. You try to dig deeper, but find that her buckling has turned into genuine seizure, so the tendrils switch priorities, and regulate her hearttbeat, blood pressure and breathing, also calming down the muscles.

The seizure passes, and she breaks down into sobs. You hug her, gently rocking her while whispering soothing things. After a little while, you cautiosly but firmly grab her chin, turning her head towards you. "Megan, Meg, please, don't do this to me. I don't want this." You wipe away some of the tears, and give her a soft kiss on the forehead, then look her in the eye. "We still have much, much more work ahead of us, and if you just gave up, then I'd be looking at a much more boring time." Tendrils erupt in a seething mass from the tip of your right thumb right underneath her eye, and you take special care that she can see every last one of them bulging and pulsing underneath her skin. She screams again, and you smile approvingly. "There, you see? Much more fun."

Climbing out of the van's back an hour later, you fish out the pack of smokes you took from one of the soldier out of your pocket and light a cigarette. You were forced to rescusitate her another half dozen times before you decided that any more would cause serious permanent damage. Glancing back, you can see her curled into a ball, her eyes glazed over, staring blankly at the wall. Your technique, though much better than the start, allowed you only a few choice morsels of information, too strenous for the human nervous system to be of as much use as you hoped.

Apparently, the Fools don't have a centralised command structure, invidual cells and agents operating freely with only a loose set of objectives to accomplish most of the time. They only have a few permanent bases scattered around the world, mostly used as hideouts and springboards for their agents.

Their goals beyond collecting technology and knowledge seem to extend to prevent the Wise from achieving any more major breakthroughs, as well as finding a way to make the global influence the Wise built up their own.

As a whole, they are much younger and more amateurish organization than their counterpart, only a few dozen of their members truly dangerous, the rest are those who did not meet the Wise's strict standards. Most of their power comes from a couple powerful devices they salvaged or stole, like the strange armoured suit that shot you back in the states.

Pondering these things, you can't help but wonder if it is your imagination, or if the growling noise truly got closer. During the interrogation, it felt natural, like a brother that you never knew you didn't have but still felt missing. Now, it's presence is alien and intrusive, clouding your judgement with brief flashes of blood and cruelty.

It seems that sedating people instead of killing them was a good move. We shouldn't do things like what we did to Megan too often. I don't want to know what would happen if that presence took over us completly. Remember what Scruffles said: that thing isn't smart, but it's damn mean. We shouldn't do as it says.

Yeah, we need to extract. Even if Megan recovers, we've pretty much scarred her psychologically. There's a good chance she'll never recover. We've convinced her that she murdered a man who loved her unconditionally, the closest thing she'll ever have to a family, and that she's responsible for a flesh-warping brain-raping monster that delights in torture walking around in his skin. Yeah, she's broken. But as for this predatory instinct that's starting to intrude, we need to back it down. Extract now, and spend some time meditating on those progenitor-trees. That tends to shut it up.

Also, did we manage to get those hard-drives back?

This information is interesting. This means
A: The fools have no strongholds, so concentrated attacks are meaningless. There's nothing to seige. That means all attempts to hunt them down will devolve into urban/guerrilla warfare and information warfare.

B: They have little infrastructure. We've hit them hard by taking out this base. The best ways to keep hurting them are to keep removing their labs, and to help the Wise develop more and better scientific breakthroughs.

C: We need to neutralize their ranking members. Doc, Megan, and White Crown seem to be the big power players at the moment. We need to cripple their ability to study and duplicate advanced tech, which means we need to get to Brazil, where that one soldier said Doc was stationed.

D: these are long-term goals. Primary objective at the moment is to extract and recover. Feasting and meditation in equal measure to recover our strength and re-chain our baser predator.

You flick the half-smoked cigarette on the ground and stomp on it. You're sick of the taste. You're sick of being here, sick of fighting all the goddamn time, sick of having to de every fucking thing yourself, sick of knowing so little. You slam the door behind you hard enough to dent it, making it stuck. You let the engines roar, and start barelling down the highways at a dengerous speed, flipping off the growing number of people honking at you. Turning on the radio, a classic rock station just starts to play Highway to Hell. At least if things are turning to shit, you've got a good soundtrack to go with it.

You'd be in Helsinki in half an hour, but you stop at a camping spot. Kicking the jammed door of it's hinges you stalk around the parking lot until you find a suitable car, a large SUV. You pick the lock in the blink of an eye, and roll the still unresponsive Megan through the back. Hotwiring the car, you leave the place behind, slowing to a more legal and sane speed.

Finally, the sign showing the city limits rolls by you, and you re-enter civilization. Circling around a closed neighbourhood, you find an unobtrusive spot, out of sight of the street and most of the houses. Parking, you lean back in your seat, figuring you have about nine hours before the extraction.

You climb out and open the door in the back, determined to double check if she has any tracing devices at all. Now that you can think clearly ad pay attention to her, you realise that she isn't catatonic at all. Her heart speeds up as she hears you come closer, and a faint tinge of fear and desperation fills the air around her. She's conciously trying to keep silent, trying not to move or even make eye contact in fear of catching your attention again. You thoroughly and methodicaly assaulted her mind, doing everything you could think of to brutalise her psyche without inflicting a single wound. Your work, what you so gleefully did leaves you sickened, and you turn your head, quickly sedating her. She let's out a ragged, quiet sigh, eyelids fluttering close, her face smoothing. You search through her clothes, but fail to find anything that acts as a receiver or transmitter.

You close the door and stomp away, walking around the streets for some time with an expression that causes most the flinch and the more timid to cross the street to avoid you. Cooling down, you pocket the cellphone of a man sitting on the terrace of a café, tendrils a blur as they swipe the device. You start dialing, when the TV screens in an electronics store's display catch your interest. It's a live broadcast from Bangkok. It's late at night there, and you can barely see a shadowy figure pour out a continous stream of energy projectiles from a dozen or more weapons growing from it's arm. It's target is an HK, it's shields flashing in and out of existence, finally collapsing under the straing, and the figure leaps on it, weapons turning into familiar jagged talons. It starts carving the cyborg into pieces, taking to the air when two more warmachines open fire on it, blasting their defenseless ally to pieces. The movement and weaponry leave no doubt. The figure is Cath.

I still think we're the ruler humanity needs. Have you seen these guys? What a bunch of retards! The Fools and the Wise are fighting over TERRITORY, while the Earth's getting fucking invaded.

They can't even control themselves, what makes you think they'll be able to turn back the invasion? We need to seize control, for their sake.

Here's how that will backfire: you will lose all desire to rule, all ambition.

If we're doing it for rational, logical reasons it won't. Though I see your point.

I really didn't want to make three full posts without player input into four. But I probably should have expanded upon it, since a lot of you craved this moment of revenge.

Saturday as usual, I moved the quest this time because I didn't want multitasking to mess up things.

    >>16140651
Yes, with almost three hundred posts it's the longest one that wasn't split across two nights, possibly even counting those.

Thanks for the positive response, I had a blast, and I hope you guys enjoyed this thread as much as I did. Though it is markedly the darkest one yet. So, next quest on Saturday, and the archive is up:

Also, feel free to discuss things and posts questions, I'll be around for a little while longer and worst case scenario answer things in the next thread.

If we can't contact Cath through the cell which we stole,m we should call the Wise and tell them to patch us through somehow.

I still think we should locate meat warehouse (or a place with a lot of meat / animals ) before going anywhere.

Brilliant job, I went to bed 7 hours ago because I thought there'd be only one more post. I'm impressed how long you went on.

Torturing her with the tendrils was all well and good but I think we'd get more information out of her if we did it while she was unconscious so she couldn't resist. That said, it was so good to finally get our revenge that I don't even care.
