    Spoilers, for those of you who click to read without watching;

The pool is built over an ancient Indian Elder God burial ground.

The kids were gifted with Lovecraftian superpowers based off what defines them at the time they were in the water; The boy in the water got a giant hand dick, the girl became a voracious vagina predator, and the other girls fears of pregnancy began to manifest in the form of tentacle baby.

She escaped out of the pool in time for it to not come to completion.

    Her eyes caught fire because

Also what do you think activated the pool's connection to the Great One?

I think, based off what we saw, yes! And they wouldn't have stopped there, based off what happened to soda boy once he got his dick bit off by vagina monster.

Maybe they would have kept going. Heck, maybe they DID keep going, but we don't get to see that. These are the priests of a new religion, one which shall scour this rock clean.

In regards the pools connection, it's either built over something (I was only half joking), it's the work of a local cult and the kids were just a side effect, or it's a symbolic thing. The underwater is another world, a place of shifting perceptions and life, combined with the desire and actions of the kids lead to a link being forged.

You know, there's a writefag who'd have this stuff right up his street. Anyway, what do you think, anon?

i agree with these, definitely something supernatural and Lovecraft. I assume something along the lines of a broken barrier that activates only at night under special circumstances, and results in the girl going to the "other side" of the divide. so her head exploded cause she saw something your not meant to see. That video is easymodo.
An Outer God being had decided to invade that section of the Fae Realm. That pool in the other-verse was a Fea Realm portal, which some of his progeny fell through probably on accident. They then attacked the humans on a level of existence they could not defend against, and when the girl escaped through the Fae Portal, she saw something that man was not meant to see.

Its unquestionably influenced by Lovecraft, but not so much Lovecraftian as an unintentional parody of it like the CoC is, "roll SAN check lol you die." In the same way D&D started off as a (non-comedic) parody of Tolkien, amongst other things, or how 40k was initially a parody as well, but became unintentionally so over time.

pretty much nailed it. The pool had become a portal to some Other realm, and some of the essence of what appears to be Shub-Niggroth leaked through. The slutty chick was a voracious whore, so she became a flesh-devouring monster. Cock-boy was a horn-dog, so his arm shifted into a massive cock. Beer-boy (yes, that's beer, not 'soda') didn't get wet so he wound up food. Virgin girl, who was apparently terrified of getting drunk with the 'bad boys' and winding up a single teen mom, 'escaped' to the far side, then actually saw the true form of The Black goat With a Thousand Young, and the sight burned her mind, and eyes, and sanity, until she died.

    Really?

I mean, I can see a lot of stuff. Miscegenation is a pretty strong theme for example.

But I don't see much sexual anxiety in Lovecraft.
Maybe in later derivative stuff, but not in his actual stories.

To be honest many of his short stories don't have much of the mythos directly.

some of my favorites are the "The Dunwich horror, Shadow over Innsmouth, Call of Cthuhlu, Whisper in the Darkness, The Colour out of space, The Silver Key, Through the Gates of the Silver Key, Herbert West Reanimator, The Horror at Redhook, and Pickamn's Model.

Sure, less to do with Mythos, but is a nice start into looking at the man's work without jumping right in.

The answer is simple... I walk up and they run from me, they fear me, of course.

They have a right to fear me, for the reputation I built over my years of crusading. I fought for Humanity against those who would do it harm and injustice from within the darkest under depths of the black void. It is I, the layer of a thousand women, the slayer of a million beasts.

I'll tell you what happened OP. Some hipsters created a pretty decent trance techno/pop song and wanted to make an artistic statement with their video.

So what did they do? They sought out the most sickeningly twisted, pathetically misogynistic animators the international weeaboo cult has ever shat out. Someone who probably learned everything he knows about the opposite sex from watching anime and living with his mother.

I have watched Jeremie Perin's videos. The man hates women, that's all there is to it.

This is actually how I imagine a real unholy encounter would occur.

No, Space Marine, your bolters mean less than jack shit in this reality.

Oh you can try firing... but you'll soon realize the rounds have been frozen in space-time and all your biological augmentations and mental preparedness cannot steel you for a world without rationality, logic or indeed causality of any kind that you're able to comprehend... and that's as the world around you begins to collapse while tendrils sprout from every orifice and extra organ in your body.

In some way, the insanity in Lovecraft novels doesn't come from a pathological sense, it's not that your mind it's damaged. (Well, it is.)
The insanity comes from a whole new understanding of reality. You slowly begin to understand how really things work, and how everything that you believe is really a lie.
You become insane because you begin to see the world on a different way.
Its enlightenment, in a way you never expected.

Fuck that shit. Saved this picture a while back from... I'm not sure what sort of thread, it was a shitstorm about furfaggots and anti-furfaggots and blah blah blah. It's somewhat true, and thanks to that obnoxious argument, rather relevant to the bitching at hand. Modify a few things for context and it is startlingly true in the vein of these thrice-damned bitching sessions between 40k fanboys and 40k-hating-extremist "STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE" jackasses with a few poor buggers in either of the median categories. Of course, reading it closely it seems like it very well may have been made by someone in the first-to-the-right category, and considering I like 40k, in this modified version I fit into the first-to-the-right category as well.

Suppose that serves to demonstrate that every fandom, and really, any social group, is often not judged by its moderate adherents, but by its extremists, its zealots, and as such the zealots clash and ruin everything for everyone. Fuck that shit.

It's a great take on a Coming Of Age story.
What I got from the story:

Her and some teens break into a pool at 2am in the morning. They are enjoying themselves, but she is slowly becoming uncomfortable as things start to move too fast for her.

She jumps in the pool to cool her head but
    >Bubbling of the crotch.
Her period has just kicked in.

Her mind is now racing ever faster as she tries to cope with the new predicament, but
    >Dick arm
She spots the other two finger banging and shit gets worse when they ask them to join in on the fun.

Feeling uncomfortable she attempts to flee but
    >The chase
They continue to pressure her into joining in.

She is beyond scared and seeing
    >Dick bite
The drunken guy who was hitting on her joining in on the fun and receiving a blowjob is not helping

She attempts to flee once more but
    >Other side of the pool
    It is short lived.

From the other side of the pool she can see it,
    >Burning eyes
Her eyes can see them fucking.

her eyes are now open to the truth.
    >She dies
    Her innocence is now gone.

We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

Not according to Lovecraft. The whole point of his horror was that it doesn't matter whether you cease or not. All your wants, desires, individualities, and everything you value is meaningless, and the things that live Beyond don't care one wit. Not only will you cease to exist, but everything you've ever done, everything you've ever held dear, will cease as well and nobody will care. Mind you, he wrote long before the Space Program gave us pictures of ourselves from Way Out and Carl Sagan had yet to give us the 'Mote in a sunbeam' speech that puts us nicely in our place. So we've already proven that many of us humans are more than capable of handling the realization of our miniscule scale in the 'grand scheme'.

They were bothered by a universe that is not based on comprehensible rules, but rather on the whims of things more powerful than us. Lovecraft at least, Lewis seems to have developed Stockholm Syndrome when he thought about it long enough.

And that is terrifying. Even if we are totally insignificant, if we exist in the context of universal, impersonal, and ultimately comprehensible laws of nature, then we can at least make methods to navigate and manipulate this universe. We may be far behind another species understanding, but we're working from the same rulebook. If, however, the rules we are capable of accessing and understanding, the very laws of nature themselves, are local, temporary, and subject to review, just not by us, then it is pretty terrifying. That's what you see in Lovecraft. People who discover this is so, and suddenly they start to see the edges of this everywhere.

That neatly explains why it hits us so hard. We navigate a world of negotiable outcomes all the time, the world of human society. If the actual world was negotiable though, we just didn't have access to the minutes, we didn't have a seat at the table, we didn't have the eloquence to engage in the parliamentary procedure in any case, the it would be horrific.

Bureaucratic horror fits into Lovecraftian somewhat sideways, things like Brazil, Kafka, 1984, maybe Clockwork Orange. This just shows us how awful that can be on a purely human level. Lovecraft takes it bigger.

Terrible writing though. Terrible, terrible writing. The idea he expressed were fantastic though, and guys like Boroughs recognized this. His fandom has taken off a lot in the end of the 20th century, when we find out his is a view that is depressingly accurate to reality (except without the monsters, which actually makes it worse, somehow).

I find him really hit and miss. Maybe fifty percent dry as fuck literary drudgery, and fifty percent holy fuck fthagn yellow sign WTF. But there's no way to know which story is which without reading them.

Lovecraft actually 'open sourced' his background ideas, freely spreading them to several contemporaries and making it clear he wanted others to expand on his work. There are websites that have complete copies of everything he ever wrote.

Yeah...now explain how your boy Cthulhu got fucked up by a ship's propeller. And don't try that "he wasn't feeling well" bullshit, that don't fly.

Lovecraft's gods are one of the worst example of power creep through retcon I've ever seen. Things like Shoggoths and Children of Shub-Niggurath would've seemed really powerful to people in the 1920s, but now a decent tank company would probably wreck their shit, so people have brought in all this "magic, I don't got to explain shit" to make them seem like a meaningful threat. I call bullshit.

Just read through the whole thread and I concur 100%
I knew there was a reason I kept coming back to tg, sometimes you find a diamond in the rough.

This is actually one of the more awful things. Cthulhu can be fucked up by a propeller. Just like a person can get bitten by an ant, or stub their toe, and get genuinely hurt.

But most of him is not here, so he just retreats back there and goes to sleep. If it really pissed him off, getting whomped on the head might make him pour boiling water down the ants nest (ie, wipe out humanity in some manner we could not comprehend) when he wakes up.

The universe doesn't care about us, and it doesn't care about Cthulhu.

To clarify: Imagine you're Cthulhu. You wake up, and suddenly the horde of insignificant apes that now live on the planet you're currently resting on are flinging nuclear fucking weapons at each other. That's right, for some reason, Nyarlathotep thought it would be funny to give apes the atom bomb. Now, you can expect to have your eon ruined, or worse, if they decide to fire them at your resting place.

It would be like a camper waking up to find that the ants around his campsite suddenly firing laser beams out of their eyes. One isn't so bad, but as soon as you make a move towards the car, they all start shooting them right at you, and it burns. It even sears away the skin.

Dude, shoggoths are biological nanite swarms.
You think tanks can do anything to a film of microorganisms working in harmony, and then oozing into the tank like batman into robin's arse?

Shoggoths are mortal, but they're nasty.

Especially because they're smart, and learn.
Send tanks against shoggoths, soon you'll end up with shoggoths driving your tanks.

Even more terrifying, we're making nanites now. We recently made the first simple artificial nanoorganism. Basically a little bacteria with a computer chip in it. We're managing to program them to actually do shit. They get a bit more complex here and there...

We managed to make them repair the brain, in fact. Not just living ones. Dead ones. There's one small kink, however.

When the nanites revive a dead brain, the parts of the brain that make us human die. Leaving nothing but base instincts behind the body. And of course, those nanites will spread. So you get zombified bodies full of nanoviruses biting people and eating them and making more nanozombies. And since these guys repair the body, they aren't subject to the usual "zombies will eventually die" thing anywhere near as quickly.

We've created nanite zombies, man. Which could theoretically become self-replicating nanite zombies. How long until shoggoths become a reality?

One of my favorite net/fan interpretations of the Shoggoths has them as biological servitors of the Elder Things, as we know. They rose up, as we know, and wiped out the Elder Things.

Then they were subject to the laws of natural selection, as they survived on Earth. Some of them retained their newly found minds, and remained deep beneath the surface of Antarctica. Others were defective in other ways, and their reproduction led to may forms, eventually forming the basis for all life on Earth.

That's right, we are made of defective Shoggoth material. DNA is their computer code. Many things know how to hack this code, and by simply turning a signal towards any biological lifeform, they can make it's body transmogrify in drastic ways. Sometimes a few lines of Shoggoth code get turned on in higher creatures, and we call this cancer.
