12:57 PM - Candy Biu: So yesterday I learned that GW employees can be ridiculously fun people.
12:58 PM - Candy Biu: You know that Necrons just came out, right?
12:58 PM - Candy Biu: Well, the updated ones.
12:58 PM - Candy Biu: So they have a new ability/attack/weapon.
12:58 PM - Candy Biu: Called the Tachyon Arrow.
12:59 PM - Candy Biu: Infinite Range, S10, AP1, Large Blast, Pinning (iirc)
12:59 PM - Candy Biu: Usable once per game
12:59 PM - Candy Biu: So the employees decided, since it's infinite range, they're going to attack other stores' games.
1:00 PM - Candy Biu: So they called up other GW stores in the area, asked if they had any games going. Yeah? Good. Any vehicles? Cool. We're attacking them with Tachyon Arrow, roll to hit... hits. Roll to pen... pens. Roll for damage... 6. Whatever we just attacked is dead.

Meph, did this one once in an Apoc battle.

There was ten of those IG ICBM tanks, Deathstrike or whatever it's called, sitting on a hill in one game, doing nothing.

Then finally, they all fire in one turn.

The target? Was the three titans a table over from us.

Large scale apoc game at my LGS, to make things faster we divided up sectors and objectives, My IG Arty army was the last to place and ended up in the one area with no objective, also no opposing force deployed in the sector as they were too busy raiding the various cities, and captureable areas of the massive table setup.

So after a round of fortifying and maneuvering the army i just started shooting at other tables, Complete with call for fire commands shouted over the din of the gaming shop. Any time an attacking force came near the guard they were shelled off the table, and deep strikers and fliers met with flack and AA fire that sent them crashing to the scarred landscape. With nothing to defend the arty company removed titans, entire tank formations and scores of troops.

both of them landed ontop of a battle that wasn't going well for our side, one of the objectives was a large hill/trench and tunnel complex that had been swarmed upon by a tyranid player, i could think of no more fitting a target. the blast pretty much routed the tyranids and the hill's remaining catachan defenders from a different player were withdrawn in every available flying transport we had. I think 2 platoons were left on the hill when the bombs fell.

Reminds me of when my FLGS was closing down because the manager and assistant manager had been employed by GW Merry Hill. Things got decidedly silly. People were playing huge games, years before Apoc came out, and we were doing stupid shit like deploying tanks on top of multi level necromunda terrain which acted as objectives.

We had our Gaming tables upstairs and a smaller display game down stairs. The guys up stairs started shelling the display table with vindicators and basilisks, and my Black Templars left the upstairs game via table edge and deep striked into the downstairs game.

If it moves faster than light, it's a moot point to discuss it within relativity. There'd have to be created a new model, in which no, you do not "travel back in time". That's absurd and shows a lack of basic understanding of why it is light does its crazy shit with time.

Some Tachyons have been shown to possibly break the light barrier under extreme conditions. They are still attempting to explain the results or indeed make certain they were correct. They won't know for certain for another decade or so.
Amongst the explanations are "they didn't travel faster than light, they left our reality briefly and appeared to do so". So, saying "Tachyons Travel Faster Than Light" is scietifically wrong. It's more correct to say "as we understand it presently, the speed of tachyons relative to light is being debated."

Because my model collection consists of one small tau force and one small guard force, each too small to be an army on their own, I fluffed them out as Rogue Trader militia, and set them up in a remote system out near the Perdus rift. why is this important? Because that lets me explain away everything as "A rogue trader did it." A bunch of local players got in on the idea, and we started a whole story where the other armies showed up at my home system to compete in an annual tournament. Think the Superbowl mixed with old-school native-american lacrosse.

Because I could write away casualties as people getting "out" instead of being killed, all the different players started forming rivalries between the units in their army. For example, my hammerhead and my friend's exorcists are famous for their "slapfights", where each group focuses all their attention on hitting the other, but never succeeding in destroying each other, and my Leman Russ is legendary for having "girl-seeking" shells. He was firing on one of the exorcists, but the attack drifted some horrifically long distance to the left. The template just happened to land smack-dab in the middle of his sisters squad and downed almost a dozen of them.

    Thanks, man!
I wrote the whole tournament into the history of the system. The tournament is held in honor of "Victory Day", in which anti-ethereal revolutionaries and the Rogue Trader's planetary defense force (recently bolstered by Democlese Gulf refugees) repelled a Tau counterattack to retake the system (admittedly, most of the Tau attack was diverted to address a daemonic incursion happening nearby). The whole celebration is a week-long affair that mixes Octoberfest and PAX.

I've also heard a few stroies about shooting into other tables during tournaments, including one time when a Basilisk's shot scattered over the table edge into a unit in the Warhammer Fantasy board next to the 40k board.

In the Liber Chaotica, which is written by people in the Fantasy settings, the guy has these made visions that he writes down periodically in the books of the different Chaos Gods of stuff from 40k, like Noise Marines, Defilers, and various other Chaos forces. It is clear that the two universes either exist in parallel, or that the Warhammer Fantasy world exists in the 40k Universe.

Now I am not a Necron player, but I do LOVE most Xeno armies, and this fluff is pretty nice. Just the "Alaitoc" one, The Siege of Somonor on page 22-23. It's not a "Eldar attacked, won but lost dearly cause they are pansies", more a "Eldar leader arrogant, he won, as the runes said, but the cost was all his army. He'll be back!" feeling to it.

Scarabs have the Entropic Strike rule (as do a few other Crons). This rule has 2 different abilities depending on what it hits. If it hits something with an armour save AND causes an unsaved wound AND the model survives, it loses its armour save for the rest of the game.
Against models with an Armour Value (ie, vehicles), you roll a d6 for every hit you get. On a 4+, the vehicle's Armour Value is reduced by 1 on all facing. If any facing is reduced to 0, it is destroyed.
Note that scarabs have 4 attacks base AND this rule. They are Fearless, have 3 wounds, stealth (being swarms), and are beasts (12" assault). Being WS2 and S3, they're only good at bogging down normal units, but against non-walkers (whom they have to fight WS v WS), they either auto hit, if it was stationary, hit on a 4+ (combat speed), or on a 6+ (cruising speed).
Scarabs are 15pts, by the way.
In my first game using them I reduced a Land Raider to AV3 in 1 round of combat with a mere 4 scarab bases.

As people have mentioned before, scarabs will absolutely DESTROY in Apocalypse.

I didn't even think of that guy. The horror, the horror.

Actually, now that I think about it, the Entropic Strike rule is REALLY going to need a FAQs dealing with super heavies. The ES rule states that a vehicle reduced to AV0 on any facing is wrecked; but super heavies don't use the standard damage table. Okay, I suppose it isn't that big of a deal, but it should still be adressed (though wether in a Necron or Apocalypse FAQs, I have no idea).

Eldar Gravtanks here, good luck catching me with your 7"-12" move per turn that doesn't ignore terrain.

(Basically, if you catch my tanks it means that I fucked up/am terribad/lose the game and deserve to get OMGWTF Armor 6?)

Not the hellhound's job to fight you. You are best left as melta-vet prey.

I'll just deepstrike them in range with a lith.

Can't assault the turn you deepstrike, and every single one of my tanks can move 24" in one turn if I please. Possibly 36" if I sprung for Star Engines.

All i need is to deepstrike one squad into combat with you and its over, even if I lose the monolith, 1 squad of scarabs will eat your mech list in 3 rounds flat (thanks to nemesor giving it hit and run).

don't start that shit. Face off 3,000 points of scarabs like a man, with 3,000 points of a single unit

Wait, what? Its range was FAQ'd to be infinite in tabletop. How can the epic range be longer than infinity?

Fine, 3k scarabs, vs 3k hellhounds

    Lets do this shit.

Imperial Guard and Space Marines shouldn't have *too* much trouble with scarabs. Flamers kill them. Heavy flamers kill them more. Flamestorm cannons even more so, as they'll inflict instant death. Honestly though, given their speed, you're probably better off using incendiary castellan, inferno cannons, or colossus mortars, all of which will hit multiple models, wound on a 2+, ignore the scarabs' armour and cover saves, and inflict instant death. Also, Deathstrikes, although that's probably not the best use for a 1-shot weapon.

    >7"-12" move
+ 12" assault as beasts, for a total of 19"-24".

Only if your 7-12" move gets you within a foot which, again, means I are bad player.

they will catch you, and if other models are involved it gets really complicated.

So, with this in mind. Do the Necrons now have a chance at ranking up there with the gigantic dicks of 40K? Eldrad and Vect might have/had/will have/have had a contender.
