Megaupload is fine, but it's generally accepted that it's the 2nd place upload site. Mediafire takes the prize.

Mark of the Xenos. I got it off of /rs/, not sure if it's still there.

As to the Megaupload vs. Mediafire thing. Megaupload limits the free downloads to one at a time, Mediafire never has. While Megaupload is perfectly fine if you only have one download, when it comes to an entire RPG supplment line Mediafire is the better site. I'm not going to complain, though, it's all up to whatever the uploader wants to use.

Fucking atrocious balance and it turns all your players into beings who could beat the emperor in solo combat.

Someone did the mathhammering to work out that a max level Ascension Psyker kills 2.5 greater daemons per turn. Which are the toughest thing statted in any 40k RPG book.

I mostly hear it's about the difference in power levels and the greater divide between different classes. You pretty much can't use Ascension with any other Supplement because of that divide, unless the group is completely okay with it.

Some groups are fine with that divide. I was in a Rogue Trader group where one of the guys asked if he could play a young scum (not the class, just that type) that would be become a Marine. DM okay'd it on the premise that it would have to be something a Chapter saw and thought was the most epic thing ever. A series of way too fucking lucky rolls in a one-man charge against a group of Orks later, with Celestial Lions witnessing, his character got removed from the party and told to re-roll. Player wasn't too happy about that.

Next time we played Dark Heresy, he was told he could roll up a Celestial Lions character from Deathwatch, as the scum from that Rogue Trader campaign. He was hugely more powerful then the rest of us, but nobody fucking cared.

Most people on /tg/ are huge RPfags. Deathwatch doesn't exactly have a massive breadth of character options for roleplay, and it's very restricting in the kind of adventures you can do too.

Deathwatch's main interest to /tg/ was Rites of Battle and its Chapter Creation tables. Once those got done to death, /tg/ was pretty much finished.

Now it's Rogue Trader all day, erry day, with the occasional Dark Heresy.

Well, actually deathwatch has great potential.

Needs some tweaking to make it more open ended which is too much work for most GMs who choose already wide RT or DH.

But i saw Deathwatch campaigns crushing DH and RT... Though again i think it was thanks to GM not the book, still it showed me that Deathwatch has great potential.

    Don't forget Black Crusade.

Yeah, DW doesn't get much attention. It's a shame too because I think it's a nice game. The weapons were extra ridiculous before the errata but post-errata is good. It's the 40k equivalent of High Fantasy. Personally I would rather run a game using Black Crusade's ruleset but it's not a great hassle to port things over.

From DH14 to DH16? Missing one?

Also, downloaded all of them fine except Blood of Martyrs. For some reason, megaupload just resets the timer on the regular download over and over instead of actually downloading it. All the others worked fine.

I have been of the mind that Deathwatch is kinda meh, but very epic until just recently. When we played with my new RPG group we had a kind of plastic map thingy with squares on it for measuring distances and some marker pens to draw the surroundings and whatnots with. We also had tabletop miniatures for each of the player characters and most enemies. Shit was just so awesome and immersive cause of the good premises and we had loads of epic fun times.

Mind you, up until this point I have mostly roleplayed with only our imaginations and sometimes paper to doodle on and quite lot of the gaming done through the internet.

Having such physical representations of the game also helps immersion with Deathwatch. Really the biggest problem is that its kinda hard to make DW immersive cause Space Marines are kinda hard to roleplay for most players.

One other awesome thing was that for our first mission we were running around with a Land Speeder, which is always cool and haven't really gotten to drive any impressive vehicles in dh/rt over the three or so years I have been playing them.

I don't think terrain would cut it for my purposes.
I had my players in DH explore most of Tenebra and they were in weird situations where the floor collapsed under their feet so they found themselves some dozen meters deeper on tons of rubble with assassins rushing down vertical walls.
Imperial architecture is just impossible to really get properly onto the table as terrain.
Also this stuff limits my creativity.

Figures are really great for Deathwatch.

The idea that a game about Space Marines has to be all fighting all the time is ridiculous. It doesn't, any more than a game about adventurers has to be all dungeons all the dragon.
Space Marines go on quests, pilgrimages, exploratory expeditions and so on. The Bloodquest comic should be required reading for Deathwatch DMs. Yeah, it's a lot of fighting, but it's not the typical "five minutes to drop" Spehss Muhreen story.

Space Marines see and do some crazy shit in their lifetimes. And seeing and doing crazy shit is what the Inquisition does too. Inquisition Space Marines are going to end up in the least probable situations the galaxy has to offer.

How about a Deathwatch game where the players have to remove a Jokaero pack from a hive city?
If they just attack, they have enraged, protective techno-monkeys rampaging around with an unlimited supply of raw material. You can't win that. Jokaero can build a vortex grenade out of some metal scraps as easily a you or I can take a piss. I mean, what do you DO in that situation?

The image that always comes up among my circle of friends when talking about Deathwatch is the scene in the first Eisenhorn book where he sits down to brief a Deathwatch librarian. They even crack some jokes, and the Space Marine sits there drinking tea out of a human sized cup, with his little finger extended.
As a Space Marine, especially one dealing with the Inquisition, there are times when you will be caught between your inhuman nature and the human society you're protecting

You know how rare Exterminatus actually is, right? Imperial worlds, especially developed ones, are incredibly valuable.

"But there's a million of them in the Imperium, what does one matter?"
"The Imperium" barely exists except in name. The Imperium is a loose federation of independently governed worlds held together by a few interplanetary organizations (the various Adeptus priesthoods). The loss of that world will be a catastrophe for its immediate neighbors, even if the High Lords of Terra never hear a word about it.

It is a catastrophe. There are very few reasons why Exterminatus would ever be called, and the Imperium should make each decision very carefully.

But they don't. Because of grimderp, the decision lies with singular individuals running around the galaxy, and not all of them make right decisions.

By clicking on the book, it'll show an in-browser .pdf that you can save to your computer. When I tried my second book, it said I'd have to upload a file before downloading more. Trained Basic skill means fuck all. Once a skill is trained it doesn't matter if it's Basic or Advanced since. Why they bother to use the phrase is beyond me. Sloppy writing or a holdover from an older version of the rules that was lost during playtesting?

You get Hive Dialect as trained. You do not get Tech-Use as trained, it is just added to your basic skills. Do you understand now?

Yes, a Trained Basic Skill and a Trained Advanced Skill are pretty much the same thing. Nobody cares.

    I think it's just a sloppy editor.

Par for course with 40k RPGs, even back in the days of Black Industries.

So . . . I've never read any of the WH40k books. Best place to start, or just start at the beginning?

(I hope this doesn't derail the thread into "NO, MY BOOK SERIES IS BEST!" back-and-forth . . .)
