Ten levels of Blood Potency starting at one - 432 XP.
Strength Ten starting at 4 - 225 XP.
Dexterity Ten starting at 2 - 260 XP.
5 Dots in Celerity, an out of class Discipline - 105 XP.
2 Dot in Resilience for devotion prerequisites - 10 XP.
Membership in the Carthian Movement and cost of the Forced March Devotion - 12 XP.
Three dots of the Fleet of Foot Merit - 12 XP together.

Seeing a 500 pound Louisiana dandy in a white suit running along the highway at 191 miles per hour for two hours at a time: Priceless.

There's some things money can't do. For everything else there's Metacard.

Blood Potency 10 lets your vampire increase his stats to a maximum of 10.

Speed is determined as Strength + Dexterity + Species Factor (5 in this case, can't be changed). The result is in yards (meters in metric) per turn, or roughly X feet per second.

Maxed out, he's moving at 10 + 10 + 5, or 25 feet a second. Throw in a Fleet of Foot merit, and he's moving at 28 feet per second, already pretty damn fast at 19 miles per hour.

Celerity and Forced March is where the magic happens. Normally you must spend a vitae EVERY TURN to use Celerity, which multiplies your speed by the level of Celerity you have, or 28 feet per second x 5, and Forced March lets you keep that speed up for hours x resilience.

We have a vampire now that's moving at 140 feet a second, or 95.45 mph.

Once we have all of our disciplines and devotions active, in order to hit max speed, we need to designate that our character is moving at twice his speed per turn. This means he moves his speed + his speed per turn.

191 miles per hour (307.385 kilometers per hour).

Watch out you don't hit any trees along the way

Strength 10, not counting physical attribute modification (up to +10 because of the blood potency), would amount to throwing very large cars around with your bare hands.

I kind of mad. So then you are REALY playing nWoD like DnD.
If 1056 XP characters ( or 500xp or even 250 xp) are such common occurence that you consider them crappy.

I havent played any WoD game for a long time but IIRC With 5 celerity 10 str and 10 dex he just could punch trough walls, and has no need for any kind of unarmed or melee skill to hit accurately. So he could grab enemy for its leg and smash him in cement wall 5 times per second, or rip out a lamp pole and beat him to the pulp in same amount of time. 10 dots is upper limit for any kind of stat, yes? Like for most powerful creatures in the world?

You forgot to carry the one.

Celerity multiplies your speed by 1+the dots of celerity you have, so 168 feet per second, moving twice his speed a turn, 336 feet per second.

    229 mph. 368km/h.

This guy is JUST SHY of being as fast as the McLaren F1 (231mph)

    >>17223057
    Now, a (relatively) new character..
    2 str + 3 dex+ 5 + Fleet of Foot 2
    12 feet per second.

    Celerity 2
    Resiliance 2
    12 feet per second x3
    36 feet per second

    double that.

    72 feet per second

    49mph. 79km/h.
Which is a few miles per hour faster than the top speed of a 50cc bike.

Doh, that's 2 mistakes. I realized shortly after posting that that Macellerians take a -1 penalty to their speed, so technically he's moving at 27 feet per second by default. With x 6 for Celerity (Nice catch, btw), Fattys top speed would be 221 mph

Aw fuck. Still, 110 hours to circle the planet is still pretty damn good. Assuming his Resilience was lowered to 1 (It can't be, otherwise he wouldn't be able to take Forced March, but play along), he'd blow through 330 vitae to get around. With a Resilience of 5, he'd only need to spend 63 vitae, or about 9 mortal lives.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but can't Mages bless a person with extra speed?

And can't Prometheans pass their bestowments onto other? Centimani have a couple cool tricks that a vampire can use.

I know changelings can help our Courier out, if he were to make a pledge with them. I believe the rules are that you can add +3 to speed by taking powerful pledges, (Though how many pledges a vampire can have at once, I have no clue), meaning that with double running and celerity it will add an extra 36 feet per second, or ~24.5 MPH (39.4 KPH). Not too shabby.

If there is a token that can imitate the Oddbody contract, that's an extra +3 speed.

I was thinking of playing a Tremere, but I'm a bit confused as to how the paths of Thaumaturgy work - can you only put dots in one path, or could you have them in several? So ideally I'd have Auspex, Dominate, Biothaumaturgy and Hands of Destruction.

Then there's the second tale, which involves the return of the character, in a non-serious game of Vampire that makes me wonder what sort of bizarre drugs his group is on.

Alright, that took a bit longer than expected.
Base speed of 27 * 6 for celerity is speed 162. If you add that Changeling contract you're looking at speed 180.

    Now we add spells.

Time 5 Acceleration does the same thing Celerity does, except it's 1 mana for a scene. So we're now up to speed 1080 if we've got one casting from a Time Master. Get a Disciple (or better) of Forces to cast Forces 3 Burst of Speed and you're now adding (successes*1080) to your speed of 1080 (if they stack multiplicatively, otherwise add successes*180 if they don't). There is no upper limit on this but it will burn through 1 mana per turn, so you're only going to be running arbitrarily fast for 3 seconds unless it's got an imbued item to draw from or something.

The above assumes you can stack Celerity and spells on top of one another, as Mage is actually unclear on the subject.

Isn't it obvious? The sleigh he pulls behind him doesn't carry any presents itself. What it does carry is a door, built into it. That door leads to the Hedge. The Changelings, in advance, set up caches of tokens and fae-gifts. Santa Vampire sprints from place to place, the changelings pop out of the door with the tokens and feed on the happiness produced, then Santa Vampire heads to the next cache, leaving behind some very satisfied Changelings.

Santa Vampire obviously also feeds on the Changelings a little at a time, so throughout this whole experience, he's tripping more balls than the world has room for.

As I understand it, you can spend a willpower point to stay up during the day, but you still take damage from the sun. That might be an Ordo Dracul coil though.

Equally, our Santa Vampire is probably Ordo Dracul anyway, since he'd need it that way so he can survive on Changeling blood rather than absolutely having to drink from Vampires.

Using Mind to increase one's brain efficiency for multitasking in order to get things done faster or lessening wind resistance with forces is covert. But to physically speed yourself up beyond mortal limits is vulgar in whatever fashion. Even if used in a comical situation luke a banana peel it's still vulgar. Oh I am all up on this answer

Lets go with the usual 10 strength, 10 dexterity and 5 human species factor to give our changeling a starting total of 25 yards per turn. Throw in a level 3 Fleet of Foot merit for a total of 28.

Next we pick a Kith and Seeming. There are 5 that might work for us:

If you want a consistant running speed:
    - Runnerswift Kith (+2 to speed, stacks with Fleet of Foot). An added consistent extra 1.36 MPH. Equinox rules grants another +2 at Wyrd 7, for a total of 2.72 MPH
    - Swimmerskins swim at full speed (An added 0 MPH, but higher maneuverability. Equinox grants Swimmerswifts +3 when swimming, for a gain of 2.04 MPH in the water.)
    - Windwings get 20 minutes of flight if you're using Equinox rules (2 minutes per Wyrd). Otherwise no extra speed gain.
    - Any Wizened if using Equinox rules, which adds +10 speed at Wyrd 10 (6.18 MPH)

If you want to spend glamour for a substantial increase:
    - A Waterborn Elemental can spend glamour to swim at twice her speed for a scene, or three times if using Equinox rules (Though she must remain underwater during this time, she will begin to suffocate on the surface.)
    >> Aibaleet 12/16/11(Fri)06:21 No.17234491
    Pledges:
Wyrd 10 Changeling = 13 Pledges can be active on him. Dunno what the upper limit is, but lets say he's going for 3 speed per pledge, granting him an extra +26 speed (An extra 17.72 MPH).

    Tokens:
Hedgespun Rainment - +2 speed per dot, up to 5 dots can be applied to a single piece of gear. Can wear multiple pieces of armor for cumulative effect. FUN FACT: Other supernaturals can wear Hedgespun armor!
    Cost: 0 Glamour
Gain: +10 speed per piece (6.81 MPH)

Dawnspear - 5 dot token, doubles Speed (Does not designate for how long, assuming for one scene, as per token rules.) Screws with your destiny, you can never not be in trouble
Cost: 1 Glamour (Or accept your body permanently transforming bit by bit)
Gain: x2 Speed for 1 Scene

Contracts: An extra 15.98 MPH (and a x2 bonus) for spending 9 glamour a scene.

Mirror 4 - Oddbody infers a speed bonus of +3 for a scene
    Cost: 1 Glamour.
Gain: +3 Speed (3.04 MPH for 1 scene)

Darkness 4 - Boon of the Scuttling Spider doesn't offer a speed bonus, but helps our Changeling maneuver by allowing him to run on walls and slippery surfaces with no penalties.
    Cost: A steep 3 Glamour.
    Gain: Maneuverability

Fang and Talon 4 - Tread of the Swift Hooves - By choosing a running animal as your aspect the Changeling doubles her speed for one scene (Potentially until the next sunrise or sunset with an Exceptional Success.)
    Cost: 2 Glamour
Gain: x2 Speed for 1 scene or longer
    >> Aibaleet 12/16/11(Fri)06:22 No.17234498
Stone 3 - Display Grandiose Might - Increases your strength by your Wyrd (Bringing it up to 20, holy fucking shit) for one scene. This can't be used to fight, though
    Cost: 2 Glamour
Gain +10 Speed (6.81 MPH for 1 scene)

Eternal Summer 3 - Noonday Grasp - Maximum of +3 from rolls
Cost: 2 Glamour (Or eating naturally formed ice)
    Gain: +3 (2.04 MPH for 1 scene)

Eternal Autumn 4 - Riding the Falling Leaves - Flight, with -3 to speed, or full speed with an exceptional success.
    Cost: 2 Glamour
    Gain: -3 or +0 (Lose 2.04 MPH or 0 for 1 Scene)

Wild 3 - Viridian Embrace - When outside or surrounded by plants, you get +1 speed for every success. Lets assume the Changling has 10 Expression + 10 Wyrd, and assume an average assuming 6 successes.
    Cost: 2 Glamour
    Gain: ~+6 Speed (4.09 for 1 Scene)

    Final Speed

By default, our Changeling will have:
28 speed, +26 through pledges, +10 hedgespun for a normal speed of 64 (43 MPH).
Spend 10 glamour to activate contracts and tokens (+22, x2 for Tread of Swift Hooves, x2 for Dawnspear) for a speed of 344 (234 MPH).
Double running speed is 688 (469 MPH)

    Runnerswift
+4 kith for a normal speed of 68 speed (46 MPH).
Spend 10 Glamour for a speed of 360 for one scene.
Double running is 720 speed for one scene (490 MPH)
    >> Aibaleet 12/16/11(Fri)06:22 No.17234505
    Swimmerskin
+3 kith when swimming for a speed of 64 (43.63 MPH) on land and 67 (45.68 MPH) in water.
Spend 10 Glamour for a speed of 344 (234 MPH) on land and 356 on water for once scene. (242 MPH)
Double running is 688 speed on land (468 MPH) and 712 on water (484 MPH) for once scene.

    Windwing
As a regular changeling, but with up to 20 minutes of gliding.

    Wizened
+10 kith for a normal speed of 74 (50 MPH)
Spend 10 Glamour a speed of 384 (261 MPH) for one scene.
Double running speed is 768 (523 MPH) for one scene.

    Waterborn
Regular speed as a default changeling.
Spend 11 glamour (1 for kith to activate for x3 in water) for a speed of 344 (234 MPH) for one scene, 1152 speed in water (784 MPH) for one scene.
Double running speed is 2304 (1569 MPH) for one scene.

Keep in mind, though, that speed for Changelings is almost negligable. They can all use the Hedge as their shortcuts, with the core book using a path from Miami to Seattle in 8 hours is a possibility. Likewise they can hop around from dream to dream to reality using Contracts of Dream 5.

I would actually love to see a True Fae Santa who uses a unique and bizarre goblin contract which requires so much glamour to power that it can only be used on the massively emotionally charged night of Christmas. It allows him to stop time. So, he walks through the hedge to get to select places, causing "Christmas Miracles" while parents continue his legend in a more mundane way by lying to their children. Aside from the small miracles he performs, he does things like snatch people away into the hedge to be his elves and assassinate people in his way. The game would involve a group of changelings who have been wronged by Santa trying as hard as they can to find and kill in before Christmas or else he'll kill them come the 25th of December.

Lemme pull up some vintage Touhoufag copypasta.

Wealth can buy one many things, from conveniences to weapons to friendship to more wealth. Indeed, in this modern age, it can even purchase you immortality. For this, we shall assume that we possess Resources 5, a merit that happens to be within the grasp of a 0 XP character fresh from character creation. Our method of immortality shall be through a Blood Bather ritual, as delineated in pages 32-37 of World of Darkness: Immortals. The goal here is to adjust our cost factor to +0 to render it a valid ritual.

    • Bath: Specific Material, Resources 5. Our tub is made out of solid diamond (-5).
    • Bath: Symbols and Carvings. The bath has to be adorned with fabulous esoteric charms before the ritual (-2).
    • Bath: Attendants: Six attendants must be present (-5), and they have been trained to perform a complex performance of song and terpsichorean motions (-1).
    • Bath: The Stars are Right. The bath must be performed during summer equinox (-2).
    • Blood: Age. The blood has to come from adults and adults only (-2).
    • Blood: Half the Population. The blood has to come from people of our sex, whatever that is (-1).
    • Blood: Race, Creed, or Color. The blood has to come from black people (-1).
    • Blood: Left Alive. The victims need not die for the ritual to work (+5).
    >> Anonymous 12/16/11(Fri)12:22 No.17236694
    • Blood: Coat the Skin. All we need is a total of one gallon of blood in total (+2).
    • Blood: Fresh. The blood needs to have been drawn from the donor's body within one day of the ritual (-3).
    • Effects: Immortal. We do not age, do not die of natural causes, are immune to mundane diseases, and are highly resistant to supernatural diseases (+5).
    • Effects: Attribute Increase (Permanent). One of our Physical attributes (Strength, Dexterity, Stamina) is increased by 4 dots (+12). For comparison, 2 in an attribute is roughly equivalent to 10 in D&D, and 5 in an attribute approximates to 24 in D&D, so this is a huge boost.
    • Frequency: Five Years. The ritual has a duration of five years, and can be renewed (+3).
    • Preparation: Infusions, Resources 5. The blood needs to be mixed with hilariously expensive herbs and reagents (-5).
Total cost factor: +0. This is a valid ritual.

Once every five years, the day before the summer equinox, we gather six trustworthy black adults of our sex, pay them an astronomical sum, and have them come to our mansion. We rehearse a performance of, in this example, Summer Sunshine by the Corrs with them until they can execute it with impeccable grace and skill, and then have them stay the night. We then bring them over to our solid diamond tub, adorn it with a variety of charms and sigils, extract one-sixth of a gallon of blood from each of them, and dump the sanguineous fluids into the vat. Finally, we climb into the tub and have our assistants perform their extravagant act. We are now immortal for five years and either 4 Strength, 4 Dexterity, or 4 Stamina more well-off to boot.

Also, you are endowed with either retard strength (+4 Strength), the agility and deftness of a Touhou character (+4 Dexterity), or the physical tenacity of a cockroach (+4 Stamina). In D&D terms, this is equivalent to +20 Strength, +20 Dexterity, or +20 Constitution, so you really do become a ludicrous physical specimen.

I recognize that distinction. I just wondered if there was some way to make Geist mechanics work for us here, given that Geists (the things which inhabit Sin-Eater's bodies) are technically a hybrid of ghsts and spirits, i.e. a formerly human thing with governance over death.

From what I've heard, the game Geist has kick-ass powers that can approach Mage-level broke, but without the nasty bitchslap of Paradox coming for you if you get a little trigger-happy with your abilities.

Mages have spells that can alter another person's physical/biological properties; do Sin-eaters have that kind of power, too?

    Fun fact:
German doesn't have this distinction. It uses "Geist" for "spirit" and "ghost".

They get necromancy and a ton of powers that can mimic pretty much every 1-2 dot mage arcana. They're doomed on the other hand to eventually go insane as their Geist takes over.

    >>17236932
Sin Eaters are "bound" to their Geist, which is more like a blend between a spirit and a ghost. It's a ghost, because they definitely were human at one point, but it's also a spirit, because they come to embody aspects of death. It's likely - as likely as anything in nWoD can get - that a Geist is a ghost that consumed a spirit or vice versa.

Through the union of mortal and Geist, the Sin Eater has all sorts of powers that don't quite fit any one category. The powers are unlocked with quasi-metaphorical "keys". There's Elemental Keys, the Stigmata Key, the Primeval Key and more. Which key you unlock your powers with flavors how those powers work. So, if you unlock the Marionette power with an elemental key, you can create little elemental homunculi. If you unlock it with the Stigmata key, you can instead raise zombies.

Beastheart Changeling? Hiding Eggs which contain charms against True Fae?

These stories don't HAVE to be horrifying, you know. Santa might be an Elder Vampire, but who says he has to have low Humanity? He agrees to this arrangement with the Changelings because he genuinely loves children as much as his absurdly high blood potence. The Changelings get Christmas joy. I was thinking the same thing.

Krampus itself is almost certainly an Ogre of some sort, but what kind of Seemings does it engender? Ogre, naturally - it's said to eat particularly naughty children. But, given that the children are taken BECAUSE they're naughty, they might become Darklings. It's also fairly bestial, and a durance in which you help Krampus hunt children might lean towards Beast. If, instead, you're forced into servitude, you might go Wizened...but it's not likely. Nor is Elemental, save for some associations with winter. Fairest is probably the LEAST likely.

I actually really like Genius and really dislike Outsider. WoD's philosophy seems to be that of twisting old-school movie monsters into interesting play things that fit into the cosmology they created. Genius fits that. Outsider, on the other hand, while fitting the really nifty Lovecraftian cosmology, doesn't fit WoD's at all. I would never, ever run it as a WoD game simply because it doesn't fit at all. Mind you, I probably wouldn't include Genius either, but I would sooner include it than Outsider. It's the same reason I wouldn't include something awesome but terrible non-D&D in a D&D game - I would just use another system if I wanted to do that.

So, what else can we add to the story of Elder Kindred Santa Claus?

He has a kid who's an Acanthus Mage, who loves seeing people happy, so vamp Santa spreads Christmas Joy every Dec 24th.

Santa uses Changelings, who organizes prezzies in the Hedge so that he can distribute them without too much hassle.

He has a frenemy in the Krampus, who torments ungrateful little bastards and takes 'em into the Hedge.

And, somehow, Frosty the Snowman is a Promethen and Scrooge's Ghosts of Christmas are a pissed Geist Krewe..

Alternatively, if you want to imagine them as "B-Movie Monsters except well-thought-out and creepy", then take a look at any number of "Weird Alien shit is happening" B-Movies. Like The Crawling Eye. Tell me that shit isn't straight outta Arkham. Or Die, Monster, Die! Or Invasion of the Body Snatchers. >Scrooge's Ghosts of Christmas are a pissed Geist Krewe..

I'd say they make more sense as Spirits. Actual, proper spirits, not geists.

Now Jacob Marley, there's a geist in the making. Condemned by his life of avarice and greed, he should have known his evil deeds would put him in shackles. Now the Marley Geist hunts down other people who face the same fate it has, and tries to convince them to change their ways. If they're unredeemable, it'll make them suffer as it does.

Oh, and while there was mention of a Hunter acting as the Grinch here, I reckon there's a bigger force at work. Beyond Santa Claus, the most important thing about Christmas is crass commercialisation. The Cheiron Group have got wind of this real-life Santa Claus and want in on the action, so they can monetize it properly. Cue Black Helicopters and Augmented Hunters trying to catch Santa Kindred while he's up and about before he goes back into hiding.

Alternatively, some Long Night and Malleus Monstorum hunters decide that this vampire abomination has stolen the true meaning of Christmas: celebrating the birth of the baby Jesus. They aim to put a stop to this incessant gift-giving any way they can.

So I'm one of the guys still working on Outsider. And it's really cool to hear you say that. A few people just bitched about the whole idea, it's weirdly nice to hear that someone's disappointed. It means the premise is good, but the way we implemented it was less so. And that's fixable. Closer integration with the rest of nWoD is something we'd definitely be interested in looking at in the future, but our priority at the moment is finishing off the skeleton of the system. Once we do that, we can work out exactly how they fit.

Of course, the core idea of the system won't change, but like anything in nWoD, we can provide any number of explanations for what's really going on.

The plan is to start a dedicated thread tomorrow (which, incidentally, is Outsider's first birthday) once the people involved are all online to contribute. We'd be glad to hear whatever criticism you've got to throw our way.

As I see it, any game based around this will mostly not involve the Santa Vampire directly, because when he shows up, if the players are trying to stop/capture/kill it and they don't have an incredibly good plan and everything they need to carry it out, they're going to fail. The sheer amount of xp barrelling towards the players at hundreds of kilometres per hour is going to take a lot of stopping.

The more I think about it, the more it seems that the Changelings are at the centre of this. They're the ones who sneak into the bedrooms of children while they sleep and enter their brains to find out whether they've been good or bad, and if they've been good, exactly what presents they really, really want from Santa. They're the ones who take the mince pies and milk left out over night as part of a pledge that families inadvertently sign that means that Santa and his elves give gifts, the family give glamour and access to their dreams for the next year. They're the ones who kidnap high-ranking vampires to drain their blood to wake Santa from Torpor every year. And they're the ones who ensure that Santa never remembers anything besides giving gifts out every year. Torpor will do that to you.

Speaking of which, is it possible for a Changeling to enter a vampire's Torpor dreams like they would an ordinary person's? Cause that would explain a lot.

I think Vampa Claus would only visit a few locations each year. Even for a magically massively fast being, it would be way to hard to stop at all or even most places on Earth in a single night, let alone even circumnavigate it. But those places that are stopped at are carefully chosen by his cohort of elves for maximum strategic mirth and belief-spreading. The fact that people are playing right into an ancient pledge with the cookie ritual is just icing on the cake.

Well, it depends on the playstyle of the Genius in question. Introvert Inventor will probably stay on his basem- secret lab, making gadgets and stuff, but Active Archaeologist would probably go around the world and research stuff. What little gadgets they make are used to further their research (like perhaps a compass that points to their destination or things of interest). Something like that. Geniuses don't have to be the mad scientist cooped up in a lab or a secluded island somewhere, just as Vampires don't have to be Nosferatu-clones or Dracula-wannabes.

Personally, I find the idea of a Spring Court conspiracy in the heart of Winter to spread joy and happiness throughout the world pretty heartwarming in itself. Maybe rhe Santa vampire signed up voluntarily, looking to do a little good. It's just some unpleasant things like spying on kids and draining some high blood potency kindred has to be done for the good of the Season.

Nah, they try to kill Santa (anagram of SATAN), so they can return Christmas to a celebration of Christ.

    >>17243153

I can see the Changelings locating only the best behaved children and only those that really need something. Of course, the consequences of some children getting exactly what they want could be another scenario entirely.

His parents can't understand it, but Junior is more interested in that toy sword he got that neither of them remember buying, than the PS3 he'd been wanting all year.

It need not be grimdark, though.

The Changelings run a big operation, true, but they're not dicks about it. Scouting out the kids in most need of something worthwhile in their lives, they do just that.

Santa might not be the most intellectual Elder, but perhaps, in the mists of time, he did this voluntarily, in honor of his kid. he can manage a continued existence, still hold on to his humanity, and make people happy.

I keep wanting to make Santa's kid a girl. She's aged, over the years, to the point where she almost looks like a female version of her father. Still, her magic has allayed age to the point where she'll probably last as long as he will. Still, folks who heard of the rumor where she sits at the base and keeps shit running smoothly god warped over time, and now folks think she's his wife rather than his daughter.

Shanda hated Christmas. Mom tried her best to make it all festive and stuff, but she knew she was putting on a show. "Things'll be good this year, you'll see!" her mom chriped, her smile not quite reaching her eyes. "Put the past behind us, we're going to have a great Christmas this year!"

Shanda had heard this before. She remembered this was mom's usual attitude before the day, before she locked herself in her room trying to drown out her dad's yelling and her mom's sobs and desperately trying to pretend the crashing noises were just bad dreams.

She doubted the fact dad was now in jail would somehow make things so very different

"Look what Santa brought this year!" mom chimed, gesturing too emphatically at the small pile of wrapped parcels laid out on the kitchen table.

Shanda knew Santa didn't deliver the presents in a van from the Boys & Girls Club she saw at the door a few days earlier, and that he sure as hell didn't employ a scrawny recovering druggie with a tanglewire goatee as one of his elves.

Still, she played along. Mom wanted to believe in this stuff. Someone might as well be happy this time of year.

Most of the loot was pretty good, actually - a new Barbie and some plushes with dorky-yet-kinda-cute smiles and stuff like that that mom'd never been able to afford before. But it was the one package without a body that stayed with her.

It was wrapped without a box in a crinkly green parchment which smelled of fresh sawdust and maple leaves, with a bare tag tied around the end. Clearly whoever wrapped toy sword hadn't bothered to conceal it's shape or purpose. On the note on it ("To Shanda, braver than she knows") had any semblance of a traditional Christmas gift.

Shanda peeled away the wrapping like the skin of a fruit, marveling at the craftsmanship on the pommel, which looked-for all the world-like the stem of some exotic flower. The blade was graceful, like a thistle's leaf, and, as she touched the blade, she could have swore she had a flash of some knight - her hair tied into a bun and her armor polished bright - charging boldly at some fearsome dragon.

Shanda held the thing in wonder, feeling it like an extension of her hand, and, as she gave it an experimental swish, , caught sight of a second note, pinned to the tip.

Plucking the note, she unfolded its neatly-folded creases, and read it aloud in spite of herelf.

"Fairy Tales are more than true. Not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten."

So the christmas child is also Santa's wife...
Well, it does make sense. Though who was the child's mother? A mortal?
Is that the reason why Santa made this pact? He wanted to good for the sake of his daughter, yet couldn't stand existing consciously after the death of his wife?

TRANSCRIPT OF INTERVIEW OF SUSPECT INVOLVED IN CONFIRMED RED PRIORITY INCIDENT

SUSPECT: "I don't know what the fuck you're holding me here for. I've got rights damnit. We never did anything wrong. Who the fuck are you people?"
OPERATIVE: "We'll be the ones to decide that, [REDACTED]. And we're the ones who'll be asking the questions tonight. Now. Tell us why you and your friends were waiting in the car outside [REDACTED] last night."
S: "Alright, fine. We were waiting for someone. We didn't know who, all we know is he was gonna do something to our kids. And the police wouldn't listen. So we were gonna protect them ourselves."
O: "How did you know this someone was going to come for your kids, and why then?"
S: "It started a few weeks back. [REDACTED] was just going to bed and checking on the kids, when he saw this... guy leaning over his son's bed. So he goes in and tries to ki- incapacitate the fucker. But the guy heard him coming and ran out through the door to his other son's room and when [REDACTED] got through the door the guy was gone. [REDACTED] says the room got cold and he swears that he saw some snow melting on the floor, but no sign of this guy. So he called us up."
O: "Why did he call you up, rather than the police?"
S: "We'd dealt with some weird shit before. That's all I'm gonna say till I get a lawyer in here."

S: "We got together and made a plan. If this guy was targetting our kids, it wouldn't be long before he tried again. So we'd all be watching and waiting, ready to fuck 'em up when they tried anything. It was me he went after next. I was waiting up in the next room with my shotgun ready when I heard him, creepin around like he fuckin owned the place. I surprised him, got the gun pointed at him and made very clear my intent to defend my property and make a citizen's arrest until the proper authorities arrived. He wasn't trying any funny stuff this time. And then the proper authorities arrived."
    O: "Those being your friends?"
S: "Yeah. We tied the fucker up and... questioned him vigorously until he started talking. He wasn't admitting anything. But he said that we needed to let him go, that he was just trying to help the kid. And that soon 'He' would be coming to give our kids exactly what they deserved. Solstice time, he said. So we gave the fucker another working over and left him to think on it. When we cam back, there was just a chair, some loose ropes and a big pool of blood."
    O: "So what happened next?"
S: "We got ready. We found out that solstice was what they called Christmas before Jesus was born. So we didn't tell the kids, but we had to spend more time getting ready. [REDACTED] was the smart one, so he did the reading but he didn't find anything much out. So we got everything. Silver, flares, holy water, the whole shebang. When it came to Christmas Eve we put all the kids in one house and set the wives to watching them, and we parked outside, ready to get the fucker when he tried to come back. We didn't expect what happened next."

Just as soon as we saw it, it was on top of us, then it was stood outside the house. This fat fuck in a Santa costume, dragging a sledge or something. He went for the door and then more guys starting getting out of the sledge, more than could ever have been in there. So we get down to it. We pile out of the car and open up with everything we've got. A couple of the sledge guys drop, but the fat fuck barely even flinches, he just calmly goes for the door, this big bag over his shoulder. Then it all gets hazy. I remember seeing one of the sledge guys right up close, like he fucking teleported into us and starts cutting, then one of them this big, mountainous motherfucker just charges over and lays one of us out flat. I remember hearing one of them shouting about how we should have used iron or something. And then I heard my family screaming, but that's all. I musta gotten knocked out. Next thing I know, these guys in suits are dragging me into a helicopter, and I can hear my kids shouting about Santa Claus. What the hell happened?"

Yeah, that's why I wondered about the abilities.
But what if it's just another mis-interpretation?
Instead, he's pulling lycantrophs along on his sleigh (What happens if he drinks their blood? Is it just very potent or frenzy inducing?), which then do something.
...Imagine a pack of werewolfs sitting on a sleigh pulled by an over-weight vampire running over water. The vampire is tripping balls due to drinking changeling blood.

The lycantropes could be a clan of were-reindeer (Does this exist in nWoD) with a blood feud against this vampire. He did something in the past and every Christmas they try to kill him. The rest of the year they are searching for his hideout.

Santa was a loving guy with wife and daughter once upon a time.
His daugther turned out to be a mage, he became a vampire and his wife died.
His daughter, already off-age, loved children and Santa couldn't stand his existence without his wife.
So he turned to the changelings - He promised them much joy to feed on if they helped him to make his daughter's birthday a time of celebration for children all over the world. He would go into torpor, only to be awakened by the changelings once a year and the changelings would give him vampires to feed on for his awakening and scout the homes of children to find the ones that could spread the most joy. Children whose lives would be changed to the better with just a little well-done present.
And so he would go out every christmas and give these children these presents, presents which would create joy beyond the feelings of this one child - This joy would follow the child for its whole life and the act of spreading these gifts would keep the tradition alive, making children all over the world happy. Hey, even wars have been stopped for one or two days because this guy just wanted to make his daughter happy.

Spirits are animistic ethereal critters which dwell in the Spirit world and which preside over certain domains. Domains can be anything from Housecats to Paper to Lying to Consumption to Truth to Time.

They're supposed to live in the Spirit World, and remain separate from our own. (the Spirit World, or Shadow, is kept apart from the phyisical world by way of a metaphysical barrier called the Gauntlet). Spirits are eternally tempted to cross over into our own world and raise mayhem (possess a human, and you've got all the tasty, tasty [PORTFOLIO-RELEVANT-PHENOMENA] here).

Wereworlves, which are half-human and half-spirit (wolf spirit, to be exact) are the border patrol, and who keep the worlds separate.

I still think having were-reindeer bodyguards who guard Santapire while he torpors is a good thing. If he's using that Fair Entrance Goblin Contract Onna Stick as much as I think he would, he'd need to have someone guard him from vengeful hunters or hungry spirits. Ooh! Spirits hunt him because he's such a powerfully ancient spiritual entity? The were-reindeer serve as guardians?

Perhaps this is where Taskforce VALKARIE comes in again?

Mortal populations have some particularly nasty and masquerade-risking vampires, so Taskforce goes in & nabs them. vamps of this power level don't go down easy, but some Changeling tokens help to even the field.

Then, VALKARIE collects the blood from the vamps and pass it on to the Changelings.

Mortals have one less malicious ubervamp to contend with, vampires get to keep their masquerade, and Santa gets to keep on ticking!

Then (the changelings/reindeers/third party) neturalizes the vamps, then the Changelings bring them to Santa. TFV gets to scratch off the list of dangerous individuals, changelings get the vamps, reindeer/third party gets changeling benefits.

At least you can't do this stuff without getting a lot of XP.

They're called Malkovian in nWoD and they are by default strongly encouraged to be played as the quietly insane type. Think Patrick Bateman as a soft-spoken Victorian gentleman who is ceaselessly polite to the people whose bones he removes while they're alive and awake. A Ventrue bloodline, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes. And now that the disease Malkavia has been printed, it was revealed that the entire bloodline carries it. Effectively giving the bloodline two extra disciplines... But two severe derangements, and this turns the character into a kind of monster.

Let's go back to reindeer black ops.
So we've got spirits, hunters and changelings guarding this old guy?
What's the stance of other vampires? And are there any were-beasts that hate him?
We do know that one Hunter faction tries to take him down.

    >>17255346

Three hunter factions. The Malleus Monstorum and Long Night team up to save Christmas from Santa, and the Cheiron Group want to turn a profit from him.

As for other vampires, well the guy's a massive walking Masquerade breach. That, if nothing else, will get their attention, and not in a good way. Though they'll have a hard time stopping him. Maybe, somewhere in their black, souless hearts, a lot of vampires, when they think about it, think that maybe it's best just to let Christmas continue as it has for centuries.

Because Changing Breeds is a godawful, furry book. Not even joking, it's properly furry.

It's nothing really to do with werewolves, it's just people who are so in touch with nature that they can transform into stupid sexy animal forms and fight against those nasty hoomans that try to hurt mother nature.

    It's an abomination.

Technically, it isn't even a werewolf book. It was like Skinchangers - a WoD core book that just happened to include some supernatural mechanics. Part of the "we're offering a toolbox approach to storytelling' stuff.

    I'm reading the PDF now

So far the book has a lot of Fern Gulley level moralizing over nature, but there seems to be at least a few non-Wolf critters that dabble in the spirit world like the Uratha.

"Clever mystics among the changing breeds summon and bind spirits as the werewolves do. Though less favored by ancestry, these mystics learn potent tricks from their spirit allies. Most times, such ferals deal with the spirits of animals or plants; every so often, though, one might forge pacts with the weirder spirits — conceptual spirits, artificial entities or the hybrid outcasts called magath. Wind-Dancer and Root-Weaver accords seem especially drawn to such experimental thinking, which seems to run counter to Nature’s earthly order. All in all, ferals avoid the eerie Shadow. Most beast-blooded folk would rather feel Earth’s air across their feathers or Earth’s mud beneath their paws."

    >>17259110
"All feral characters, regardless of breed, share the following common traits:

    • Shapeshifting: The defining talent of the werebeast, the Changing Gift allows the feral to shift between human, animal and a ferocious hybrid form.

    • Healing: All ferals heal at a phenomenal rate.

    • Fury and the Berserk: Bestial instincts and innate disgust with Man’s depredations imbue every feral with a Fury that can take several different forms.

    • Weakness to Silver: The vulnerability to Moonbane remains a puzzling but constant thorn in every feral’s paw.

    • The Delusion: The illusions of Man cannot handle certain truths. Faced with the Changing Gift, the Berserk or a feral in mid-shift, human minds or technologies suffer the Delusion . . . if only for a moment."

    Seems pretty Uratha to me

I found which 'race' Reindeer would fit into: "Wind-Runners: Horses, elk, deer and other lean,
    fast creatures."

As for the 'class' political associations:

Den-Keepers - "The den is the heart of safety in the wild. Therefore, the den must be nurtured and protected. Just as the mother bear watches over her cubs, the Den-Warder guards his protectorate. He may be devoted to friends,
family, animal kin or even complete strangers; in any case, his devotion keeps them alive."

I agree. The book was written (in part) from some oWoD werewolf writers, and it kinda shows the ecoterrorist angle of some of those books. Still, the crunch is fairly solid, and if you wanna discard the "DESPOILERS OF NATURE MUST PAY" line, it's pretty feasible.

I mean, hey: There's a merit for Rudolf's nose in here!

"Bioluminescence (•) In the deep canyons of the ocean, sunlight never goes. Nevertheless, weird constellations of light drift and circulate in the darkness, as bioluminescent fish live out their lives in the abyss. Likewise, lightning bugs pulse with incandescent glows. Their gift is rare among the Changing Folk, but a few ferals share this talent, too. A character with this Favor emits light from some portion of his body — or perhaps all of it. The light is roughly equal to that of a powerful fl ashlight; in game terms, the light eliminates up to two points of dice penalties for acting in darkness. The character can turn this Favor on or off at will, as a reflexive action, and the Favor costs no Essence to employ. The store of luminescent chemicals must “recharge” after each usage, however; this process takes 10 minutes. The effect lasts for one scene and then fades. In darkness, other characters gain a +2 bonus to attack the feral while he glows.

It does admittedly give one concession to easing up on the heavy-handedness: it emphasizes keeping your animal and human aspects in balance rather than letting EITHER one take too much control. It's just as bad to go full human-hating Red Talon wannabe animal as it is to just stand back and do nothing.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/11(Sun)16:54 No.17259361
Are we going to have the were-Reindeer be like Uratha & dabble in spirits? if so, there's this Trick:

"In game terms, a feral with this Aspect can select Gifts from Werewolf: The Forsaken, provided that character has at least one dot in Language (First Tongue) and a working (and often high-maintenance) relationship with the spirit realm. Each dot in this Aspect purchases a single Gift of that rating; Gifts over the ••• level cost two dots each instead of one."

    >>17259361
Shit, forgot the trick was called Spirit Gift. There's a whole whack of Spirit-related Tricks & Merits they can take.

I think, mechanically, the Elken-volk would work well if we were to have body-guards who share a connection to the spirit-world. Just ignore some of the /d/ style art.

    Mechanically, they work like this:
    "War-Beast: Strength +4, Stamina +4, Manipulation –2, Size 10, Health +9, Speed +9 (species factor 10), +1 to perception rolls

Primal Beast: Strength +3, Stamina +3, Manipulation –3, Size 10, Health +8, Speed +8 (species factor 10), +1 to perception rolls"

    Pretty solid for bodyguards/black ops?

I'm still not entirely sure about the werewolves/were-reindeer. I mean, I'd like them to be included, but I'm struggling to think of a way to do so that makes sense. I mean, how'd these guys get involved with Santapire and all his little Elves?
