105 KB Spiders Are Superior Anonymous 12/31/11(Sat)10:41 No.17384620
    It just occurred to me.

In most settings, Dwarves are presented as the masters of technology and humans as the generalist jack-of-all trades race, but sport a high number of fighters.

Spiders are a magical species. They tend to be mages and create magical empires. They make some of the best wizards there are.

In most editions of the game after 2e, Wizards were the most powerful class, with priests and druids competing for top slot.

Spiders are also in tune with nature. They have lots of druids. And they have gods for magic and nature, meaning they have lots of priests, too.

They aren't just predators living in magic trees; they're actually a race designed to gravitate toward the most overpowered classes there are. Next to godlike magic power, technology and good fighters are worthless.

This effectively means that Spiders are actually the most powerful of the traditional races, by far. If they wanted to, they could probably wipe everyone else out.

    Discuss.

You fan race is silly. Everyone knows all about Spiders.

They're a magical race of wizards and druids that live in harmony with nature in the woods. They're also notoriously hot and sexy and have an ongoing rivalry with Dwarves.

It's been this way since forever.

Everyone ALWAYS tries to do spiders some new way. Moon Spiders, High Spiders, Sun Spiders.

In the end, it's all still spider.

    Okay guys. Wat if.

You are wandering through the woods and you run across a dwarf. He has a leash, connected to a collar being worn by a hot SPIDER girl. Her entire carapace is writhing with young, showing her fertility.

She shows clear signs of being mistreated. When the dwarf wanders away to gather firewood, you approach. She says the Dwarf has enslaved her, and she promises certain... favors in exchange for her release.

    WAT DO, /tg/?

    >> Indonesian Gentleman 12/31/11(Sat)11:22 No.17384866
That’s it. I’m sick of all this “Masterwork Scorpion” bullshit that’s going on in the d20 system right now. Spiders deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I’m talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine spider in Australia for 2,400,000 Australian dollars (that’s about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even spin webs of high quality with my spider.
Australian wranglers spend years working on a single spider and train it up to a million times to produce the finest strands known to mankind.
Spiders are thrice as scary as European daddy longlegs and thrice as tough for that matter too. Anything a tick can scare, a spider can scare better. I’m pretty sure a spider could easily frighten a neckbeard going to the bathroom with a simple jump onto their face.
Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Australia? That’s right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Aborigines and their spiders of destruction. Even in World War II, German soldiers targeted the men with the spiders first because their killing power was feared and respected.
So what am I saying? Spiders are simply the best arachnid that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Spiders:
(Arachnid) 1d12 Damage 19-20 x4 Crit +2 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork
(Arachnid) 2d10 Damage 17-20 x4 Crit +5 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork
Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Spiders in real life, don’t you think?
tl;dr = Spiders need to do more damage in d20, see my new stat block.

I've been playing Dwarf Fortress lately and I had a caravan of Giant Cave Spiders come by.

Unfortunately I forgot they don't like to be offered silk goods. They declared war and ate my broker before my militia could cut them down.

Now I've got an army of spiders on the way. I believe they are riding giant cave swallows.

Oh come now, are we still going to be haunted by the sins of our forefathers?

Half-Spiders are everywhere in society now. Like it or not, people have been breeding with spiders for generations, and the result is a huge half-spider culture.

They're probably the most common half-breed species there is.

And you say there's still families that don't want spiders near their children?

Preposterous poppycock, my good sir. My good friend is a spider, and he's raising his daughter to marry my son. When they come of age, they will receive a proper spider wedding.

I'm not at all afraid to have my children play over at their house. As long as he remembers to take his antivenom, he's in no danger from their love bites.

The creature is something you have never seen before. It lifts its foremost segments to air as it emerges from the tube. It's countless little legs waggling in the air, the whip like antenna slowly waving around, as if they were trying to smell something. Between it's large pincers emerges a quiet hiss.

    The creature is not interested.

Not to use, to get a surveyence of the surrounding area, I can assume we're a jumping spider so we have the capability to jump to it, and we have a neurotoxin but we might not be able to pierce the centipedes exo-armour so we need to trap it somehow juming spiders arent usually webspinners though as the use the spinnerette to make a tether for when they jump just in case the fall short.

I think I will end this here, for now at least. It is almost 2 am here in Finland, and I am already sleep deprived.
I might continue this some other day, as there is still much that can happen to our little spider, seeing as we are still inside that goddam shed. Assuming of course that there is enough interest for continuation.
But for now, I will cease drawing. If there is any input you would like to give, or questions, I'll answer them briefly before going to sleep.

Fucking greatest quest in a while.
/tg/, do you know if its possible to own a jumping spider as a pet, without keeping it in a terrarium? I'd love to have one of those cute spiders just chilling on some furniture, but I'm afraid that if I did that it would just die.

Considering that the time difference between my country and 4chan server time is 7 hours, to get the same people on board, I'll have to start these threads quite late in my time, so they will not be those day long running things, as I'll have to sleep at some point.
