BY THE TWISTING OF MY THUMBS, SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES! TG QUEST?!?!?!

    Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/17316446/

You have fought your way across the surface of this Earth, banishing the domains and proto-domains back to wherever they spawned and freeing the hapless citizenry from the living hell of living in a Darklord's Domain. You have gathered to your side heroes stranded or drawn here, and faced the puppetmaster behind it all, the Ebon Night.

With only Antarctica still shrouded in mists and your teams busy setting up a defensive checkpoint around the mysterious World Pillar, the clock is still ticking as you attempt to find a way to end this struggle once and for all.

You have covered up the Indefatigable with a huge blue tarp and are using United Nations cover to work on it. The denizens of Tokyo are still recovering from their ordeal, so no one has pressed the issue yet.

You have ordered your scientists to translate and decode the black book you found in Silent Hill. They estimate it will take them a day.

Most of your forces are recovering what can be recovered from the battlefield.

    It is currently Day 7.

Have the Hellstars been beamed up?
Also how many shield emitters were we able to replicate? Enough or not enough?
    >> Anonymous 01/04/12(Wed)19:17 No.17425939
Hope we can get a recap of our available forces and equipment once this area is over.
    This is one huge area!
When Cheryl has been worked on by the Psychics and has learned how to eye laser, send her down to the World Pillar.
Send Tosh and the X-commies too, since they also have psychic powers that they can control.
Since I doubt hero-level units will be needed for cleanup ops, Darius and Lyla could go down to Antarctica as well.
BLU team is only ever good at wrecking things, so send them down to the site as well. Tell them that Explosives and Fire are the best weapons vs. the Shoggoths; the Scout and Spy might want to stick to scouting, and the best person to Uber is probably the Pyro.
The Aurors - have them help the research team on the book or the Aglaphotis, and stay in orbit.
As always, send some of the White Mages down for medic duty.

This leaves most of our forces in orbit, ready for whatever bullshit pops up next.

Can we get a headcount of our forces at present, OP?

Alright, then, in accordance with our rough plans, the Antarctic team should be moving to recover the materials at the Elder lab.
I suggest tossing the Demoman and Engineer in a shuttle and hustling them down to the antarctic, they could lend a lot to the proposed kiting of the greath mutherin' shoggoth.

Right. So thus far, we've lost:
A ton of mechs (not sure exactly how many, OP advise pls?)
    Most of the /tg/ squad.
    Almost all of the Drooones!
    The EMH
    Half the Psions and Abjurers
    A third of the X-commies
At least 20% of the Knights Inductor
Anyone else got their asses dead?

Are any of the Hellstars salvageable? Are any of the Hellstar pilots alive (or are their bodies recoverable)?

To the other posters: have we worked out a concrete way on how to break the news to Guts and the Persona cast about their not belonging in this world?
    >> Anonymous 01/04/12(Wed)19:28 No.17426078
    >>17425913
Forgot that one, yeah we were beaming the remains of the Hellstars out of the ground.
But right now it's day 7, the Japan team is cleaning up their mess today.

The antarctic expedition was: MI, SCP, UNIT, Prawn suits, and one Observer.
    >>17426009
    >>17425965
Looks like we're sending a few of the BLU team in as well.

So the idea, as I understand it, is to block off troublesome connecting tunnels, and to set up traps and fields of fire to get the big shoggoth to follow them through to kill it and get the fighting away from the lab.
If it is too hard to kill, then we keep it busy and chasing while we snag the stuff in the inner lab.

The Hellstars fell through cracks in the earth to be submerged in lava and then buried when the cracks sealed up. They are not recoverable.

WHAT YOU CURRENTLY HAVE ALIVE AND WELL:

    YOU HAVE:

1 TGS Cruiser with Sensor, Containment Bay, Labs, and Weapons upgrades, The Oncoming Storm.
1 Victory-II Star Destroyer, the Relentless
1 Defiant-class Starship, the Indefatigable. Currently being repaired from heavy damage.
    1 Overlord-class Dropship.
    1 Leopard-class Dropship.
    1 Al'Kesh Bomber/Transport. (Asgard Teleporters)
All ships upgraded with Capital-grade Reality Emitters.

Aboard the Victory-II you have 1 squadron of VF-25s (10/12), and 1 squadon of TIE-Defenders, as well as 1 Gunstar, Char in Hyaku Shiki, and Crowe in Brasta.

Aboard the Overlord you have a team of three Tomahawk Destroids, 2 Mad Cat Battlemechs, and 4 M270 MLRSes.

You have enlisted the services of Finalon the Elf, Lyla the White Mage, Darius Fortes, Lt. Commander Data, BLU team, Spike Spiegal (RED), Egon Spengler (RED), Carl “Mouse” Sampson, Star-Lord(RED), and Gabriel Tosh (RED). All have been given Phaser Rifles for a non-lethal option.

You currently have Cheryl Mason and Douglas Cartland tagging along. You've equipped them with M41-A pulse rifles and Mass Effect Hardsuits.

The force fields will also need to be set up to keep other shoggoths from entering that area.

The shoggoths have been shown to be able to communicate using organs that they create from their protoplasm, and that there is an entire city populated by them not just in this portion of the Old One city, but also in a secondary, larger city further underground.

Shoggoths are not stupid; that was the mistake that the Old Ones made, and they were outsmarted by their former slaves. Don't assume that it will be dumb enough to allow itself to get kited without calling for backup.

Let it sink in for a moment.

    >>17426078
Seems reasonable. I'd also like to send down Darius, Tosh, Lyla, and Star-Lord (since heroes aren't as likely to die as regulars), the X-commies since Psi attacks are effective vs. Shoggoths, and some of the White mages for medic duty.
That'll give us SCPs, UNITs, Prawns, MIs, X-commies, WHMs, half of BLU team, Tosh, Darius, Lyla, the Star-Lord, and Cheryl for Shoggoth busting.

I disagree, they have been fairly helpful in a support role. In Castlevania, they prevented Dracula's teleportation ability which made his boss fight easier, and the Protection from Evil buff spells have been good buffes for all of the fighting, the Feather Fall spells saved half a dozen KI, and the Sphere of Ectoplasm helped to reduce the power of Erebus' attack against us.

For Ship upgrades, Engineering (Fabber, Antaeus) is a given.
Someone's been talking about a Magic studies lab. Can we set one up using the shit we've looted from Azalin's lair, or would we need more specialised parts that would take a requisition?
Also, once we get the Fabber and Antaeus, we'll see about making ship-grade cloaking, reality emitters, and weapons. Upgrading is cheaper than buying new.

Also, OP, we need to know how many force field emitters we were able to fabricate before the battle, and get to Antarctica.
We don't need exact numbers, but just need to know if we:
    A. Got enough to cover all tunnel entrances to the World Pillar chamber.
    B. Got enough to try the kiting idea, creating a single path that the Greater Shoggoth has to follow.
    C. Enough to block off most access to the area of the city that the shoggoths don't enter, so that shoggoth reinforcements arrive they can't enter our section.

Also, if the Al'Kesh isn't immediately required, I'd like to test to see if the transporters will work down into the World Pillar room, and if they will reach the tertiary research complex to beam the Observer directly into the primary research building.

Mass rifles will not be as effective against shoggoths, since they don't have a vital organ to target.
Same with plasma weapons, though they may be a bit better because of the heat transfer.
Phasers should be good though, since they have a wide-beam setting, and they can be set to disintegrate cubic volumes of matter measured in cubic feet.

ANON: Analyze the tunnel maps provided by the Observer. Find and locate tactically sound positions for our forces to use for traps and firing lanes to kite the large shoggoth through, while using the least amount of force screens to cover the attempt from being intruded on by additional Shoggoth.
Keep in mind a Plan B to retreat to the surface, while avoiding leading them to the pillar room, if combat proves too difficult or enemy reinforcements too heavy.

So, what exactly have we guessed might be causing the mists over Antarctica, and/or our plans with dealing with the mists there?

We know that there's a World Pillar there. It's probably essential to the fabric of reality in this world in some way. The Old Ones studied it at a glacial pace because they were afraid of breaking the world if they tampered with it too much. It might be possible that Cheryl's godly powers may have to interact with it to deal with Ebon Night when the time comes.

We also know that there are a fair amount of Shoggoths and one HUGE Shoggoth there. Although exterminating the Shoggoths will make traveling to and from the World Pillar safer (as well as any other forays into the city that houses the World Pillar), they are probably not the cause of the mists.

First is to check that machines can be safely transported at all.
See if we got a computer, or maybe one of those little MSE mouse droids on the Relentless. Try beaming it down to the surface, then back up to the Al'Kesh. Make sure there's a couple KI there ready to blast it in case it gets corrupted.
If it seems okay, try to beam it down to a section of tunnel away from where the Observer is located.
If the Observer sees the MSE droid, and it checks out as intact and uncorrupted, we can try to beam the MSE into the research building. If it radios that everything is okay, then we can do a site-to-site to get the Observer into the building.

    Some Techno-magical researchers from RIFTS
A Magical item manufacturer/forger, to help making rods of silence, ethers, enchanting weapons, etc. (We still don't have a name for this one)
Someone suggested a Magic researcher hero, but the Aurors are basically an entire team of Hogwarts professors, so the Magic researcher shouldn't be needed.

Men in Black memory erasers, for not ruining Canons. (I'm surprised these haven't been suggested yet! We could use some, especially if ship-grade)

Someone wanted a Macross Quarter, but all of our ship upgrades are going to the Antaeus and the Super Star Destroyer. ... Did I mention we have a Super Star Destroyer?

People want more Al'Kesh as the dropships. I think this is a decent plan.

We know it is deeply tied to the world and responds to thought.
Our hope is that Cheryl, with training and help, plus World Pillar will be a combination that will make facing Ebon Night actually feasible.

To confirm this and prep further, there is an Elder Thing research lab not far away which is where the bulk of their research into this Pillar they found here is located, we aim to acquire this data to aid our efforts.

We have the anti-shoggoth team in place, and already told them to set up in the areas indicated by ANON.

Only addition we went with was having part of BLU ferried over in a shuttlepod to help with the setup once the battle in Tokyo is done.

In theory, this fight is concurrent to the clean up in Tokyo, so then we have the Elder materials in hand when the research is done on the books and they can start studying that data.

They were coordinating with ANON and the Observers maps and setting up for the plan for taking on the Shoggoth. Which involves just them, and kiting the big shoggoth through a hail of fire and traps. The only change we've made this year is to add some of BLU to that process.

They have powered armor that will protect them from the cold and they have a psi attack.

Regardless we should have the Psions briefed by the Farseers as well when they talk to Cheryl; they might be able to help her when the time comes.

So, our plans basically hinge on this:

    >>17426640
    >ANON produces four smaller caverns within the cave system that offer good vantage points and paths of retreat for forces to ambush enemies in.

and using traps and line of fire intelligently, while the few fields we have help keep the approaches to the Pillar safe.
MI, with a focus on fire.
Prawns, with a focus on arc cannon.
UNIT and SCP with lasers, phasers, and various other energy weapons, burning and blasting.
Pryo & Medic backing them up.
Demoman and Engineer keeping the supplies of prox grenades and sentries around corners to surprise them up.
    Observer, observes.
    99, with UNIT and SCP.
Traps of explody, shocky, and burny types should be set. What approaches we can't block with fields, we should consider caving in, but remember to leave a path to the lab available.

If fail, goto escape to surface. Shoot with shuttle and Leopard.

    Yes, sounds about right.
As soon as the shoggoth leaves the area, the Observer should immediately go into the research building and begin scanning everything. No need to waste precious scanning and research time.

We have to be careful and make sure that our forces don't get outflanked, however. They've had a few days to trap the area, so hopefully that won't be as big a problem. I wish we had more MSE droids to act as an early-warning net.

We can have the phaser rifles of the Mobile Infantry and SCP unit set to wide-beam maximum setting. That should be enough to disintegrate major portions of the shoggoth.

The plan is to get as many hard-hitters into one open area as possible. If everyone can fit into one area, AND retreat without causing dronejam, then do that. If it's impossible for everyone to retreat reliably, only bring in the ones with the strongest anti-shoggoth weapons.

Start in the room closest to the Big one, shoot at it, and retreat if it follows/chases/engages.

If possible, set up some type of primitive alarm in side tunnels, just to give advanced warning that SOMETHING is there. It might save lives.

Set up, if possible each cavern in such a way that the team can fall back to each one after the other as they wear down the Great Shoggoth.

All forces in Cavern 1 (first cavern that the shoggoth will be lured to), and then a fighting withdrawal to Caverns 2, 3, and 4. Don't stay long enough that anyone gets into range of the shoggoth's pseudopods.

Set up proximity mines and any kind of trip-alarm they can jury-rig together to let our team know that someone is trying to outflank them. Have VP-99 stay one cavern behind, to make sure that no shoggoth compromises our Caverns.

I am voting to have the team attack on Day 7, today, once the half of BLU Team (Pyro, Medic, Demoman, Engineer) arrive and set up.

    Argument for going now:
    1. We already have most of the most effectively equipped teams in Antarctica now.
    2. The shoggoths developed a resistance to the Old Ones' psionic control; that's how they were able to rise up in the first place. We shouldn't wait for psionicists to arrive, who may not be effective against the shoggoths.
    3. Attack now, and secure the Old Ones' research gives us more time to analyze it and figure out how to apply it.

Tripwires with burning oil, prox mines, barrels of incendiary stuff that can be detonated remotely, electrified floors, pits that flood with napalm then ignite when something falls in, Boulders of Lightning and Magma, Turrets that shoot shurikens and the shurikens are electrified, Something that swings down from the ceiling and sprays Oxy-clean and Salt on the shoggoths to dissolve them.

    I don't know. Traps.

    Early-warning traps:
Radio tripwires set up on tunnels that enter the section of the city that we are in (that the shoggoths don't enter). We want to trap the areas that the shoggoths will go through if they enter this area they normally don't go.
Tripwires are either actual wires or laser sensors that will send a radio signal back that they've been tripped.

Approaches to the Caverns that we won't be using, and approaches to the World Pillar room, will be trapped with proximity mines.

If we can fit them into the shuttles that the BLU Team will use to get there, or can somehow be dropped where the Leopard can retrieve them, send down the Bolter Turrets. Set up a few in the World Pillar room facing the tunnels, and the rest in the Caverns alongside Engineer's sentries.

Also, if we picked up any from the North Dakota arsenal, or the insurgents still have any, send down claymore mines in a drop pod as well.

We're assuming that some of this prep-work was already done by the teams we had sent there 3 days ago.
If they don't have the materials and equipment, I suggest we have the Al'Kesh zoom around, cloaked, and beam away whatever we need. It's been shown that Asgard transporters can beam out objects and people from protected bunkers with very high accuracy.

In that amount of time you've managed to set up a series of tripwires, explosive, and incendiary traps. Pit traps can't be dug out in time due to the dense stone of the caverns.

With a sudden surge of speed, the shoggoth lunges forward, a web of pseudopods entangles one of the M.I.s, four UNIT troopers, and a Prawn suit. Two of the unlucky troopers are instantly engulfed and the Prawn is crushed, but the M.I. and other two UNITs are fighting to get free...

So, since we seem to sometimes be fighting Elder Things, like, possibly right now, have we considered obtaining something like a Black Barrel Replica? It's a conceptual weapon that enforces the concept of limited lifespan into whatever it shoots. It apparently works especially well on immortal otherworldly beings.

The Prawn suit sets some sort of electric overcharge that consumes it, but takes a nice chunk of the monster out along with it. The beast is already reduced in size from a building to a large vehicle.

The other troops are well on their way to the second cave while the shoggoth takes its time crushing the unlucky few it ensnared. When they reach the second cave, they turn and pepper the creature once again. It halts its savaging of the dead soldiers and rolls towards the troops once more, triggering yet another wave of troops.

    Shoggoths are sentient right?
Can our Universal Translators enable us to communicate with it?
After nonchalantly sending our Drone and Observer out of the room of course.

Careful, finish recording the etchings first.
This shoggoth could have been serving as the Elder Thing version of a chalkboard.

Remember, the Elder Things used the Shoggoth as their ultimate multipurpose tools.
Unfortunately, they eventually started developing minds of their own.

    I suppose you're right.
We should make sure there's no other shoggoths in disguise before we burn this one out.

Every instance of shoggoths in Lovecraftian writings show them as hostile to human life.

Indeed you can. It's somewhat hard for it to take cover when it is pretending to be a room.

There appear to be no other shoggoths in the area, unless they are beyond the hatch/sealed chambers.

The universal translators only work on spoken language and requires the subject be willing to talk, of course.

It takes a good four hours, but your drones manage to finish recording everything.

Most descriptions put it at 'barely' on the sentient.
They used to be mindless tools of the Elder Things.
Note that is 'tools' not 'slaves'.
It became more like slavery after their tools grew rowdy.

The Elder Things communicated with and controlled them psychicly.

    Just to clarify, I suggested

Because of the possibility that the section of the lab that we're in right now might have Shoggoth Inside™ processors and/or Shoggoth brand wallpaper. Those Shoggoths are crafty.

Watch it carefully, and go about the looting elsewhere.
When we send the psychics down, we should have one give this one a mental nudge.
If this is actually a proper submissive shoggoth, then we have quite a find here.

Set VP-99 to watching the room and the shoggoth, while Egon and ANON translate the engravings.
It's odd that it hasn't attacked yet.

Have BLU keep an eye on that shoggoth, and have SCP finish recovering the machines.

    No, that's a bad idea.

Shoggoths are organic, right? I propose getting highly caustic chemicals down. Sodium hydroxide, calcium oxide, stuff like that. Easy to neutralize, but devastating to organic matter without danger to inorganic stuff.

Not conventionally organic. Though at least Elder Things and Shoggoth are made of "normal" matter, unlike most other Lovecraftian beings.

We're talk about the tools that served as hammers, bulldozers, food-processors, boats, chalkboards, microscopes, etc for them. They were the Ultimate Dremel.

Is there anything on this list that gets an outright "No"?

    Mech:
    Von Luckner tanks.
ACS suits as upgrade to MI, possibly additional squad or trade-in of prawn suits.
    NOD AT-5 Stealth Tanks.
    Replacement/Additional VF-25s, plus VB-6s.
    Slammerverse Hovertank.
    Drooooooooooooooones.

    Infantry:
    More White Mages
Upgrades. Better armor, more stealth, possibly other gear. Generally agreed on, but little detail settled. Suggestion of Naruni stealth armor and forcefields. Mass Effect has nice gear as well.
    Engineers and/or Gavs.
Techno-Wizards (spell casting, research, 'bridging technology and magic'), Rifts Earth.
Warcraft 3 Paladins at level 6 or above, has an area rez of some sort.

    Ships:
    Neo Gotengo 'class' ship.
Macross Quarter (possibly with discount on VF-25s and VB-6s)
    Additional Al'kesh craft.
Otherwise we're leaning toward ship upgrades. Shields for those without, weapon upgrades, Engineering upgrades.

    Hero suggestions:
Rupert Giles, from the Buffyverse. (List maker suggests including a library of reference material with that)
Dr. Todd 'Lazarus' Lazkowicz and/or a copy of his Magic Cryokit's EMH, Schlockverse.
The Mentor, from 'Orcs Must Die!'.
    Agrias Oaks, Final Fantasy Tactics.

    Tech/item interests:
Fabbers, or fabber upgrades to Creation Engine.
Incursion tech for faking out locals.
    Economizers for White Mage.
Ethers or means to make them.
Mobile Emitters for dueling Federation and Schlock EMHs, I mean for them to provide on-scene medical attention
