47 KB Earth War Quest Part 3 (attempt 2) OPs Chief 01/24/12(Tue)08:46 No.17655538
    Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/17617453/

This Chief has learned never to post during peak hours when stuff like Boone Quest and Zerg Quest pops up unless he wants to constantly get thrown to page 3.

You are Eric "Dundee" Raifedo. Australian Puncher of spiders, Pilot of the Pan-Asian Alliance and connoisseur of alcoholic beverages.

Right now you're stuck in the middle of a pitched battle at your border base in Northern India. Pinned down by enemy fire on foot with only two guns between you and your current superior Lieutenant Ryoko Nakamura.

You also have your ex-superior Captain Lim, who had a major hand to this situation.

You need to get around those men pinning you down and get the Lieutenant to Command & Control before getting to your mech Salt-Water and crushing some enemy cans.

The injury on your arm aches with all the dust and smoke getting thrown around.

    What do you do?

And pic may be related - in terms of the human shield part. You have one pain in the ass of one provided in addition to your sidearm.

Well I don't know much about the setting, but as you are wounded I'd suggest avoiding any major confrontations and move more towards stealth. Avoiding getting dragged into direct combat until you can get in the mech. Keep the jap chick close at hand, make sure you cover one another at all times.

Get her to where she needs to be, give her a kiss for luck, and climb into your mech.

Kiss the Lt for luck, return fire and pray some form of relief is on its way. Not sure how else to deal with the situation. Maybe take a head count and positions of the soldiers in your field of vision.

    >>17655727

You can see at least four enemy soldiers. Light combat dress, practically no armor. You notice their guns seem to be giving them problems at times. Once or twice they seem to jam, prompting one or two of their number to have to duck down to try and unjam it.

Three are armed with Assault rifles, one is armed with a sub-machinegun.

With a deep breath you promptly give the Lt a kiss for luck - you can see there is quite a lot of shock in her eyes from that action.

She gives you a hit to the side. It didn't really hurt.

You dart out of cover to send a few rounds at the enemy soldiers. They take aim.

You open fire. Or try to. Your gun has jammed at the worst possible moment, as you try to get the weapon working the enemy soldiers have started firing.

You're hit. You can feel the pain very clearly. You've taken some rounds to your chest and leg. You can't tell where. The pain's making it too hard for it to be exact.

You push through it and manage to unjam your weapon. You return fire. Your first shot went wide, prompting the soldiers to get cocky, putting up their weapons and start marching over to you casually.

Your next shot catches them off guard. You nail one of them right in the neck. He drops his gun to clutch his throat as he drowns in his own blood. His comrades turn to face him.

    Their guard is down.

You fire on them once more. Your first shot flies past one of your assailants left ear. He swings around to bring his gun to bear. You hit him in the hand with the next.

He drops his gun, you move to the next target. You get him in the eye. Your fourth shot misses.

Your fifth shot never comes. Your gun jams once more.

A shot rings out. The remaining armed soldier looks down to a shot wound right at his heart. His brain catches up and he collapses.

The lieutenant is out of cover and pointing her gun at the man you disarmed.

"Raifedo! How badly are you hurt?!"

You swear there's some panic in her tone. You like to think that its because you're growing on her and not the fact that the base is still being torn apart.

    Human shields is a buzzword.

It's a term we use when we kill civies and want to shirk responsibility, similar to "collateral damage" but with the benefit of shifting the blame to someone else.

For you see, we were manipulated into murdering innocents by the evildoers who are trying to make us look bad.

The mess is bad, and but you've survived worse. You just hope there's a medic around when you're done with this mess.

You and the lieutenant do what you can to keep the injuries from getting worse. As much as you need to get the Lieutenant to C&C, this little incident just shown you how much of a bad idea it was to go at it on foot.

You were going to need some metal between the both of you and everyone else. The both of you struggle towards the hangar the Salt-Water was located.

Aside from a few minor scratches it looks like the Salt-Water was back to its old and merciless self.

You and the Lieutenant quickly board the machine. Your arm's hurting again as you run through the start-up procedures.

The rumbling snarl that signified full activation was music to your ears.

    Salt-Water's Status:
    Armor Levels: 100%
No Limb Damage - Full Mobility.
    Weapons:
Shoulder Machineguns 1&2: Both 100% ammo
Arm Blades: Sharpened and ready to cut up some cans.

    No Hand-Held Weapons.

You spot a mech sized Pump-Action Shotgun as well as an assault rifle. You won't have any way to carry extra ammo though.

Get the Lieutenant to the Command and Control Building - In Progress

    WEAPON AQUIRED:

    Shotgun: 12 rounds

You guide the Salt-Water out of the hangar, your rugged Aussie features set to determination.

"Raifedo! What are you doing? This is the front line!"

"Sure is LT. The boys out here must be really hurting if some of those bastards got through. They'll need a breather before I can get you over to C&C otherwise things won't be worth one shit."

    She keeps quiet.

The front line is grim. You can see that at least 40% of your allies present are down for the count. Your Squadmate Hong is present in the area, but even with his .... enthusiastic expertise against infantry there's still too many to deal with for him.

    You can see:

5 Enemy Mechs - medium armor. 2 Semi-auto rifles, 2 machineguns, one rocket launcher.

1 Siege Mech - several missile pods, with four large missiles exposed on its back.
    17 IFVs

    9 Tanks

and plenty of infantry. at least 75 in your sights.

Mechs and tanks are the main priority. Use the shotgun to sweep whatever infantry might get in your way, but focus on the mechs. Open those cans up. Preferably the one with the rocket launcher first. If we can capture that, we can turn it on the Siege Mech. Have Hong assist if he's able, we need someone watching our back, five on one are bad odds and those tanks will cause trouble.

    Oh HELL YES!

"Hong! Give me some cover! We're gonna make a mess out of these guys!"

"Oh I've been looking forward to this!"

The bloodthirst in Hong's voice seemed to be infectious as you pumped out round after round at the many vehicles between you and the enemy Mechs. The moment the weapon registered as empty you throw it at the head of the closest one - doing massive damage to its optical systems - Hong follows up with a volley of machinegun fire, proceeding to punch with the arms said guns were mounted on when it seemed they weren't doing as much damage as he liked.

You get up close to another, smashing at one of it's arms with the blade mounted on your mech's own. You punch it in the cock-pit - either making it uncomfortably cramped in there or introducing a new brand of human flavored spaghetti paste.

You take minor damage from the Tanks and IFVs but Hong proceeds to avenge damage done to Salt-Water as brutally as possible as you charge towards the launcher-wielder.

A rocket impacts against your makeshift shield. You fling the mechanical carcass at your intended target before grabbing its falling Launcher. You take aim at the Siege mech - you fire. The fireball that happens is nothing short of astounding but somehow it's still standing, now turning towards you.

You can hear the Lieutenant panicking, but it's all moonspeak to you. Its missile pods that didn't detonate are opening up.

    "Oh fuck you Buddy."

You rush up to the Siege mech and deliver a decisive haymaker to its front. You can hear the metal creak. The noise of it crumpling reverberating into your cockpit.

It's entire torso is ripped off its legs and skips off the ground twice before detonating amongst enemy reinforcements.

The enemy forces at the front lines see your machine - carnage incarnate backing off from its defeated opponent and casting a gaze of death upon them. They break. They pull back. Your allies don't give chase but give them a sending off in the form of bullets and missiles.

The front line has been pushed back... for now. But the battle is still raging all around.

You think now its a good time to haul ass to C&C.

The Lieutenant is now staring at you. Her nose is bleeding slightly. She probably must have it the back of the pilot's chair when you pulled off that punch.

You ponder the possibility of a post kill-makeout. But you're still at the front-lines and you're "driving" so to speak. Maybe later. You settle for a jaunty grin and pulling out a somewhat messy hankerchief to offer the Lieutenant, who accepts it with all the grace of a cat that fell off of something and tried to pretend it didn't happen.

"We'll make it to C&C ma'am, no problems"

The Lieutenant keeps the hankerchief tightly over her face and merely offers you a nod.

"J..just get us there as soon as possible you... maniac.."

You aren't offended, you get called that a lot in jest. But the tone of voice she was speaking in was definitely not insulting.

You reach C&C with little incident aside from stepping upon some enemy infantry that made it inside the base.

You open the cockpit and let her out. Before she gets on the emergency-exit zipline she gives you a salute.

Now that the adrenaline wore off... THERE IS ONLY PAIN!

"Sweet suffering fuck! LIEUTENANT! I COULD USE A MEDIC UP HERE!!"

You hear a loud curse, it looks like she just got to the door. You're sure it started with a B. and was not english whatsoever.

Thankfully you had not retracted the zipline and you were now being tended to with some difficulty. Salt-Water was going to need something to clean the blood from her after this.

The pain is still there since you declined the painkillers in fear of not being sharp enough to fight, the medic advises you to find somewhere to lay low. You tell him to get the hell out of your cockpit as politely as possible because there's some heads to knock - to which he does.

You attempt to raise Hong. Its easier now that C&C has some semblance of order.

"Hey Eric! They came back with party favors and I'm almost out of presents!"

You move as quickly as possible to the Hangar. In addition to your shoulder mounted machineguns AND the Launcher you now have an assault rifle.

The stability of your handheld weapons has decreased, but you now have more firepower.

"I say its time we brought this lil' Rage to them! See if you can haul Jack and Annie over! And tell them to get every damn hard ass fucker they can find! We're gonna show them how we do it downunder!"

"You mean YOU'RE going to show them how to do it."

    "Figjam Mate. Figjam."

You send the Salt-Water into a quick jog back into the fight, an enemy Gatling-Mech raises its already spooled up weapon at you but is sent flying by a sniper round.

Annushi should get somewhere with some good line of sight and bunker down, we want info before they are ready to fight and that sniper rifle will do more good there than infighting.

"Annie. Go find somewhere to bring the wrath of god you've got there on their heads. I don't care of you have to King Kong it!"

She acknowledges without complaint, moving to a better vantage point. You raise Hong. You hear gunfire. A LOT of gunfire along with chinese curses. Alarms too.

"Fucking hell! Hong! Haul ass out of there!"

    More curses.

"Don't use that fucking language on me! Get back! Get some bullets if you can hold your can together then meet me and Jack back out here! Go! GO!"

You see Red Mist, covered with scorch marks and missing an arm run back to base.

You spot Jack's Mech firing rockets towards the incoming enemy forces.

You spot at least 4 other mechs with him. Two armed with assault rifles and shoulder mounted missiles, the other two with shotguns and grenades. There's also at least 8 Tanks, light compared to what the enemy has, but would be good enough.

With this handful of men at your back you open up the comms and start singing. You can here Jack following suit.

    Open Fire.

    Enemy Count:

3 Light Mechs - Machineguns - Anti-Infantry and Vehicle focus.

2 Medium Mechs - Gatling Guns and shoulder cannons. Anti-Mech Focus.

3 Medium mechs - Assault Rifles and flares. Vehicle and Mech focus

2 Siege Mechs - Bombardment and Area of Effect Focus

    12 Tanks

    14 IFVs

Temporarily drop the assault rifle to properly brace the rocket launcher and empty the magazine against the 2 Siege Mechs.
Then drop the empty rocket launcher and grab the assault rifle, and concentrate on the 2 anti-mech Medium Mechs first, then turn on the remaining Medium Mechs.

    Nasty stuff.

Focus on the anti-mech and vehicle mechs, with two of the four men who have come to assist you. Order Annie to go for the anti-infantry dirtbags (gotta keep an eye on the boys underfoot).

Have Jack, the two remaining dudes, and the tanks focus on the medium anti-mech pricks.

Sweep aside infantry that gets in your way, and try to avoid the tanks for now, but the mechs are the priority.

Once they are mopped up, focus on taking out the Siege Mechs. If Annie finishes off the light armoured bastards, get her started on cracking those nuts.

Breaking song for just a moment you relay your orders. Soon dropping back into your tune as naturally as you slipped out of it.

The Shot-Gunners accompany you as you rush towards the 3 Mediums armed with Assault rifles. You greet one of them with a rocket to the face as your companion rack round after round at them.

Enemy Fire is staggered and inaccurate from the repeated impacts. You get up close and all but press the barrel of your assault rifle to the cockpit of the one you hit and fire.

From edge of your vision you see one of the enemy Anti-Infantry mechs explode into a plume of flame and debris. Its legs falling over. In a few moments another of its fellows joins it. The last attempts to run. It doesn't make it.

Jack and his boys do a good job. Missiles and Rockets to keep the Gatling-gunners stumbling back and spoil the aim of their heavy weapons while the tanks made their footing all the more treacherous. A rapid burst however takes one of Jack's boys in the leg and damages the other in the shoulder. Jack himself loses one of his mech's arms. One of the tanks is destroyed.

The Siege Mechs are backing up and are priming their missiles.

You and the men with you are close enough to ruin their day.

You empty the magazine of your assault rifle, and unleash bursts of gunfire from your shoulder mounted weapons. Amazingly some of the bullets end up slamming into the contents of the primed missile tubes - causing premature and utterly lethal detonation.

The other receives several mech sized grenades to the legs. It topples backwards as it fires and sends its payload off into the sky.

It soon is executed via sniper round.

It seems like it's over. But you receive an urgent call from C&C.

The anti-aircraft weapons on the base roar to life, unleashing missiles and computer-guided gunfire into the sky.

You're dazed for the moment. Then you panic.

"Jack?...JACK! Come on mate! Answer me!"

    Nothing. Then coughing.

"Sweet Jesus. I need a four-ex after this.."

"I'll get you as many as I damn well can mate."

You haul Salt-Water back on its feet, looks like Jack's gambit paid off. Barely any damage on you and almost nothing new on the comrade you saved.

The Thunder Downunder though looked like it seen better days. How Jack managed to live through something like that and not have his mech explode can only be attributed to him being friends with you.

The enemy forces pull back. You watch the sky and catch sight of one of the enemy aircraft explode. Just one.

Dragging Jack's mech to the Hangar was easy. Getting it there in one piece was... considerably less so since it trailed parts the whole way.

Your first step out of the cockpit sent arcs of pain through your leg as you slam into the railing of the gantry. Your arm soon joins in the agony festival.

Still, you tough it out to get over to help Jack out of his own mess. Nothing so severe. Though he has got a large amount of bruises.

"Damn Eric. How the hell'd you pilot like that? You look three ways close to dead!"

"Trade secret mate. And a lot of luck."

You grin and pat him on the shoulder. Your look grows considerably more serious though considering everything you saw during the battle.

"Jack... We got a lot of boys hurtin all around. You think you can get anyone healthy enough to drag some asses around to help them out?"

"I'll knock some heads if I have to mate... but I'll get er done."

You take a deep breath as Jack gets moving. You get over to Jack's mech and hit up the comm unit.

    "Hey. Ryoko. You there?"

You figured since she called you by your first name you may as well return the favor. You mangled it a little though. Her reply is clipped and embarrassed.

"You will REFER to me as Lieutenant Nakamura Raifedo! I'm still your superior officer!"

"Yeah, sure thing Ma'am... what's the reaper's count then?"

At this her tone grows more somber.

"Estimates look like we've lost half the base... two thirds of the support crew, at least half our combat force and three quarters of our supplies."

There's a sharp sigh on the other end of the line.

"From the looks of it I'm the only ranking officer left. The others are either dead, missing or were recalled."

    "Fuck... What happened to Lim?"

Come on, that was the entire idea behind leaving Hong behind. Besides, we can totally rationalize that QM played vital part in these recent events (the fact that we considered to help Lim because QM is such a dick and that Lim was able to demotivate and sabotage freely because we had such a dick of a QM to lay the blame on)

Its alright, I still remember you got a 54 and a 30 with your roll.

    >>17658269
    >>17658281

We have two high rolls here One for a beating the other for cooperation. The roll for the beating is almost a 90.

Lets get a general consensus here. Does the Quartermaster get the shit kicked out of him or no?

I'm fine with him getting the shit kicked out of him, but Hong would have to face some form of discipline for assaulting someone under his supervision.

This is the military, not a circus, its fine to play the yob on the off hours or what have you, but something this serious at such a critical juncture demands a serious response.

    >>17658281

Weakness of character is not grounds for a military delivered beating. Its not his fault we considered helping an enemy saboteur because he was being a prick.

How about he gets kicked just a bit. Just enough to make Hong (and us) happy but not that it might be considered criminal act and that we will have to answer for it?

    Yes, it is. Come on!

...Sigh, okay, lets have no beatings then.... killjoy.

No beatings. I'd rather not have to dish out disciplinary actions to Hong for beating a prisoner in his custody.

As you accompany the first shipment of salvage back to the base you catch sight of something that raised alarm bells in your head.

Hong was holding up the quartermaster by the collar. The smaller man was visibly trying to shy away. This shit cannot fly. Time to get a message across.

"HONG! Knock it off! This asshole may have given us some grief but he's still one of ours!"

The bloodthirsty Chinese let his smaller countryman go. He was grinding his teeth.

"Bastard started it. He says any more shit I'll find a damn spent artillery casing, heat the damn thing up till it's glowing and tie his scrawny ass to it.... sir"

"Hong. No torture. I mean it. I WILL toss you in what's left of the brig. We NEED to work together"

    "Spoilsport."

You look at the quartermaster, looking dazed and more than a little terrified. You haul him to his feet.

"Alright. I don't like you. And you don't like me. But you've got a job to do. Get this shit sorted out."

    >>17658406
Quartermaster wasn't a prisoner. Just an asshole.

Later we will get Hong a beer and tell him that we would love to beat the shit out of QM too.

Go on an inspection of the camp. The salvage doesn't need your constant eye, and other such incidents might need breaking up.

Let's see what else around the base needs to get sorted out.

You keep it in mind to get a drink with Hong and hopefully get him to tone it down a little while relating with him in regards to the urge of beating the crap out of the QM.

You proceed to walk around to inspect the camp. Several Barracks had been destroyed in the attack. The men were grumbling at how easily things fell apart.

More than a few were blaming the quartermaster. Others were unhappy about the Lieutenant taking command.

General Consensus though was that you were a damn bloody hero for what you did. That sort of reputation with the men could help you.

I'll try archiving it. Pretty late/early here too.

Make a new thread later, this seems like a good place to end things for now.
