So /tg/, I'm a devil, and I've been summoned by pic related, who has given me a proposition.

She wishes me to, and I quote, "give her the strength and power to destroy those who murdered her parents and all who stand in her way."

    what are my terms?

Well, if you're just starting out, go for the tried and true method, that is, a classic Faustian deal. Power now, her soul later.

Bonus points for capturing the nuances in the original deal.

Her soul and eternal servitude after the deed is done.

Then turn her into a mindless shoggoth and let her loose. Bring her back and give her to Mephistopheles as a pet. He'd like that.

You know, I had a comic book idea bouncing around in my head that started out like this.

It's simple: When you've done as she asks, you get to devour her body and soul. And anyone you come across in the meantime who opposes her.

I'd give her something that requires her to give an innocent soul to me before every victim she wishes to use it on.

I'd make it good too. Effective things are more tempting to use just one more time, after all.

maybe offer to be like her familiar, she has access to your power whenever she needs it, but every time she uses you, you must take a soul. Also anyone who dies in her quest belongs to you as well. Finally, demand her soul as final payment once the deed is finished.

She summons you, yes? From this I can take that you do cannot manifest yourself at will?

Well. She tells you who the people are that she wants dead, and then you take her body. Using your own powers (you're a devil, you're bound to have some funky stuff going on), you take her body until you've fulfilled your part of the bargain. And if you're smart, you go for some... shenanigans while you're at it.
    >> Anonymous 02/12/12(Sun)13:54 No.17914882
While the soul-for-power trade is certainly tried and true, it is the missionary position of infernal dealings. Nothing wrong with it, but there are much more interesting avenues to consider.

First of all, the her power relative to the difficulties she will face should look, in the long term, like a cosine wave. Lots of power up front to give her a taste for it, it should prove less and less absolute as circumstances become more challenging. This way she has to come back and ask for more power (at additional cost) like an addict who needs a hit.

Second, the initial cost should be deceptively low. Gain her trust and lure her in a nice introductory rate. You'll stiff her with a big, fat bill later on. Gotta think like a credit card company here.

Third, remember that your ultimate goal isn't just to corrupt her, it's to spread evil throughout the world. Just taking her soul is a one-shot deal. Be more creative. For example: for every person she kills, you get to possess her body for 24 hours and do with it as you see fit. Whether you want her to be conscious while being possessed is up to your personal taste. Using your time in control to rile up extra enemies for her to face works well if she is oblivious to what's going on. That way she'll have to kill them, giving you more time to control her. And the more you control her, the more you can use her to sow evil and sedition across the land.

This runs the risk of her simply deciding it's not worth it anymore though. If you leave the choice of hurting others to get back at the murderers up to her, she might take longer to do it, but she won't be able to blame you for it.

    My dear Wormwood,

I can see that you have landed your first Faustian bargain, a tried-and-true tactic perfected by no less than Our Father Below himself.
Seeing this young woman, the daughter of one "Frank Castle", I would advise you to look into how much, if any, of her father's zealotry and self-righteousness she possesses.

Encourage her to seek out the more extreme methods of "problem-solving", leaving violence for later.
However, when you do arrive on such bloody means of resolution, endeavor to direct her energies not in the actually source of the problems, but rather convenient scapegoats.
Not only is this rather malicious in and of itself, you can even steer this towards a delicious irony by eliminating those who are actually trying to alleviate the problems she seeks to combat.

Direct her not to the criminals who are directly responsible, point towards a "weak and corrupt system" that allowed such a travesty to occur in the first place. This can be done subtly, until the entire world is to blame for her misfortunes. Even completely innocent beings can be made to be the incarnation of wrong in her eyes given enough time and effort on your part.

I look forward to hearing more of your progress.

    signed, your affectionate uncle,
    Screwtape

(TL;DR: direct the anger and hurt she feels not at those responsible but at those who are, in fact, trying to fix things. Have her blame a corrupt system and then get her to worsen the city by her own hand.)
    >> Anonymous 02/12/12(Sun)14:51 No.17915410
    >>17914882

Do this, and then use your time in her body to go after people you've determined to be susceptible to a similar bargain. Kill their families and then come in under a different guise and make them an offer that they believe will give them revenge. Build up a pyramid scheme of Faustian bargains and then when the original woman is in too deep imply that the person who murdered her parents had a similar deal with you.

    Could you ?
Barring insanity, I don't see how you'll get her to consider taking revenge on those who are not directly responsible of whatever she wants to avenge.
Shifting the blame from the culprit to society is something quite hard to do in the eyes of a vigilante. They will often prefer to die rather than contradict the way they lived. And almost impossible if the solution proposed is to destroy society instead of improving it.
Shifting the blame further to all individual members of the society ? No way.

think about it this way, once those responsible are dead, do things get better?
    No.
murders still happen, muggings still occur, and scum walk free, a person may feel the need to see to it that this never happens to *anyone* again.
eventually though, one feels like they're fighting the symtptoms rather than the disease. what's the cause? human nature? a corrupt system?
    who's responsible for the corruption?
who in the system is corrupt?

anger often feeds on itself, growing stronger the more you indulge it (that's just my personal exp. btw)
a desire to see "justice for all" wouldn't be difficult to pervert into "kill those filthy corrupt bastards".

It might not be the best or most creative use of the opportunity, but a few years ago we had a Warlock in the party who made a similar deal. He certainly did get a lot of power out of the deal, and used it well.

His end of the bargain? Any kill he made would be a sacrifice to the devil who gave him that power. While the Warlock didn't care much about that (he was a good guy who only killed bad things anyway), it came to bite us in the ass a few months later, when the same devil turned out to be the BBEG of our next campaign. It turned out the DM had been keeping a tally of everything the Warlock had killed, and when we fought the devil he summoned every single sacrifice to fight against us, each with an Infernal template thrown on for good measure.

Needless to say, that fight didn't go the way we planned it, especially since (in character) no one even knew of the Warlock's connection to the guy we were fighting.
    >> Anonymous 02/12/12(Sun)16:05 No.17916177
Give her abilities that are powered by her soul. So, in order to stop herself degrading into a soulless horror, she has to keep 'topping' up, meaning that as time goes on she can be less and less discerning about how she uses your gifts.

If she wants to stay in control of herself long enough to avenge her parents, she has to keep killing. And when her work is done, she can't stop. She can never stop - she either keeps killing or she becomes a mindless monster.

If she continues to be self-sacrificing about it and tries her best to only kill the deserving, she'll be sending lots of damned souls your way. If starts lowering her standards, she truly damns herself by killing for selfish reasons.
    >> Anonymous 02/12/12(Sun)16:26 No.17916196

First make sure that she cant't reneg if she dies or becomes incapacitated before destroying the people who murdered her parents such as "it wasn't his destiny to die by my hand, therefor the power was incapable of over coming destiny and by extension insufficient for the task at hand".

Establish a time frame to stop her from giving up and just living a happy life five years down the road, this includes collecting any debt when you bestow the power in the event that she has someone else finish them off/ someone else they scorned smites them or they die by natural causes.

Now consider if the "bad guys" death is a good thing, he's already driven one person to sell their soul, how many more can he push over the edge and is he looking for a boost to his power?
That includes offering his henchmen power or gifts in an attempt to move up in the organisation or pull their weight.

Finally offer her a something that can't be used against you.

You can have the power, but you're now totally my bitch and I can make you do whatever I fancy, don't like? Then you'll never avenge your parents.
Then sit in the back of her soul and ride her around, The Darkness style.
Because no matter what you make her do, it will /never/ be as bad as what you can do using her body as a tool
    >> Anonymous 02/12/12(Sun)16:34 No.17916289
why don't you just, like, be friends with her, in a kind of snarky-and-mean-but-not-so-bad-deep-down kind of way?

she's clearly some kind of protagonist, so she's going to win you over with the power of friendship or destroy you anyway. might as well make sure it's the former.

then you can encourage her to destroy all your demonic rivals and establish yourself as the anti-hero lord of hell.

what would you do with her soul anyway?

Don't for a second think that this is going to be a fire-and-forget kind of deal. Your boss must have seen something special in you to give this soul to a trainee devil, so the last thing you want to do is disappoint him. You need a deal which will give you plenty of opportunities to influence her, but which won't make its true horror known right away.
Some of the things posted in this thread have been quite good, but here's my take on it: when she kills, your power will enter her (take special note of the wording: 'your power' meaning this is just a back-door way for you to possess her, and only committing to 'enter', leaving it completely up to you to decide how long you stay). For the required killing, choose something she'll abhor; you don't want her killing straight off the bat because of the next clause: if she doesn't kill for 24 hours, you'll possess her, and do the killing for her, so that she doesn't have to see it. After this contract is signed is where your real work starts.
    >> Anonymous 02/12/12(Sun)19:43 No.17919484
    >>17919465
This is how I expect it to go down:
As soon as the deal is signed, she gets the power, plus just a bit of corruption - some sadism or loss of inhibitions or something, but keep it subtle - you want her to think it's something inside herself that just got unlocked when she gained power. Help her to find the whereabouts of the people she wants to kill but either make her fly into an uncontrollable (by her) rage in which she alerts them to the fact that there's an inhuman monster in the form of a girl that is out to get them, such that they will spend the rest of their lives running from her, or just yank her powers away as soon as you learn their location but before she actually engages them.
    >> Anonymous 02/12/12(Sun)19:44 No.17919501
    >>17919484
Now, for the sacrifices, my money's on killing a happy family being something that will tear her up inside, or at least make good contrapasso otherwise. Don't let there be any sense of urgency when it comes time to make her first few kills, you're trying to get her to set up some boundaries within herself along the lines of 'as long as I never kill someone in cold blood just for power, I can keep my humanity'. If this is your first time, don't try to influence her emotions during this turmoil, just drink them in, get familiar, this is the kind of thing you'll eventually learn to play like a fiddle, but as a beginner you probably wouldn't help much and could in fact harm the process, as your very presence is corrupting and could drive her towards believing that the ends justify the means. So sit back, enjoy the show, and just be ready to jump in with an executive decision such as "now's not the time" if she grows too coldly rational.

    >>17919501
You want her to be grateful to you for hiding the true horror of the sacrificial killings from her, but loathe herself for feeling that way. Occasionally let fleeting memories resurface, of the look on the victims faces, the gore, or how satisfied you-as-her feel as you commit the act, to reinforce that gratitude/loathing. Don't do just the killings while you're in possession of her, though. I shouldn't need to tell you how valuable having a body in the real world is to your infernal plans. You want to keep setting things up to give her just enough hope that she might complete her revenge without ever letting it actually happen, while setting up the endgame...

You're going to find one of those psychopathic little shits, you know the type that are always summoning us saying "I'll kill my family for infernal power", just to be told that their souls aren't worth corrupting. Say "It's your lucky day kid, you're going to get your chance to both kill your family AND sell your soul to the devil". She's gonna come to bathed in blood standing over the corpses of a family, then she's going to see your little puppet, with whom she will identify completely and swear that she will never let anything happen to (this part is crucial, don't fuck it up). Make her think that you consider this a violation of the deal, as the entire family's not dead, and that you will kill the kid as soon as you can. She will choose to perform the sacrifices herself from now on to prevent that, and her entire humanity will be bound up in her love for the child.
    >> Anonymous 02/12/12(Sun)19:46 No.17919533
    >>17919522
I shouldn't need to tell you how to finish it from here, as it's obvious that she's 100% yours, but for completeness, here's how I would go about it: when she finally catches up to the people who killed her parents, you suddenly take away her powers and have your puppet immobilize her. Have a gruelling 12-hour exposition revealing to her the true nature of her situation, then have your puppet kill the people who killed her family so that she can never complete her end of the bargain, leaving you with an empty shell of a girl with nothing left to live for who you can take control of whenever you like.
As a side note, make sure that the targets of her revenge die in a way that appeals to your boss. Mine, for instance, loves injustice, so I would normally try to persuade them to repent of all their sins before I kill them, as I find the idea of sending evils souls up into heaven to shit the place up pretty hilarious.

You ask for her firstborn. She will with out a doubt say yes immediatly because she is not planning to have one.
Then, you make sure she has one, through your devilish influence and/or power.
A delicious turn of fate, in order for her to exact vengance for the loss of her parents, she has to lose the one thing that might turn her back to "normality", so she will continue to kill and murder, win-win sitution for the devil.

That doesn't matter. What DOES is that you give her sufficient power on fair terms...then go broker a deal with her enemies.

She comes to you for more power. Damns herself further. You give her enemies a further nudge. Repeat. She descends into moral decay and bloody single-mindedness.

Eventually, once she's paved the road to vengeance with hundred-score innocents, she gets what she wanted. And here's the delicious part: she finds out revenge brings no satisfaction. Everything she is was built for revenge.
