[Opening this thread for OP, he is having some difficulties posting images right now]

You are Chlaon the Charred, Imp of the Third Order, minor Changeling, Thief of Souls. Since your initial summoning by the inept "Wizard" Eric, you have escaped your petty bindings and begun your work on thieving the souls of mortals who dwell in this strange and unknown realm. You have been called by your Sire to return within the week to the Pits of Hell to report to him and negotiate a "Deal" of sorts. Eric has agreed to be a student of magic under your tutelage in exchange for servitude, and unbeknownst to him, a hidden clause in his contract will render his soul yours if he betrays you. You have also attained the services of a nameless old homeless man who you have consumed the soul of, who asked you to kill his former boss for the crime of firing him and his friends and replacing them with a single dwarf.

It is currently night time, a curfew is in effect, and you have just saved a man from dying in exchange for his soul.
    >> Monster Quest !!2+7gWdDw/nh 02/21/12(Tue)11:41 No.18040979
    Right, I'm here.

Forgot to type this out in the opening post.

The "Rules" of this quest is that the majority decides what happens. Roll-offs will happen, d20 based, when I can't really tell which side has more support. Don't roll for actions unless I ask for a d20, which will determine the success or failure of it.

You cannot consume the mans soul, for you already have! (Fatass, I bet you don't even filter them and dilute your souls in the tears of innocent virgins.) You have gained two small mouths in the palms of your hands that can produce small, incomplex objects at will. However, producing too many in a short time will fatigue you.

Quickly! Befriend some guttersnipes with promises of riches and adventure, possibly by saying you are a genie and hiding in a bottle of some kind. Then trade them for their souls.

    Right, abilities.

You are an IMP. You do not need to breathe or sleep, but you must still eat and drink on occasion. You are immune to the effects of cold, can shapeshift slightly (Primarily facial features and skin tone), and cast limited magic. The spells you know are SHOCK, a buzzing electric field from your palms. NOTICE-ME-NOT, a minor glamour that renders you sorta-kinda-not-really invisible, or at the very least, easily ignored. DARKNESS, which creates a cloud of darkness that obscures vision not enhanced by infernal methods such as your own.

And now, tiny little mouth-hands that can create simple, small objects.

Exercising your will, you decide to test your new ability. You attempt to produce a small nugget of precious gold...

You hold up your right hand, and the small hand coughs and splutters, before extending a long tongue. Unwrapping, it reveals...a single gold coin, otherwise featureless. You'll have to learn what the currency around these parts looks like before you truly begin counterfetting properly.

The man at your feet begins to stir, awakening after your crude attempts at first aid.

"Wh-what happened? My leg hurts..." He moans, his voice slightly hoarse from screaming.

Casting a quick spell of Notice-Me-Not, you ditch the meatsack and go around looking for more souls to steal.

The mother and her starving children still exist, and there are numerous nameless bums panhandling at every street corner. Children in ragged clothing run about playing, and you realize, rather slowly...you're in a shithole. An absolute shithole. The buildings are worn and disheveled, the people are poor and filthy, and there isn't a guard in sight. This seems to be a place abandoned by the rest of humanity.

Let's steal some things. Food is good for enticing the poor and hungry. Cloth would be nice too, if not to bribe with then to see if we can like eat it and then try to conjure out a fully formed outfit from our hand-mouths. And of course we could use some coinage so we can learn how to properly create some on our own.

Wandering over to the markets, you thank the stars for your knowledge of magic. Still appearing as a human child of approximately 14 years, you'd normally not be trusted around this area. Thankfully, with magical aid, no one seems to notice you, or the fact that other than tattered breeches, your only real clothes are a blanket thrown around you like a shawl. You pick and peck and thieve around, stealing hams and sausages from merchant stalls when the fat men running them aren't looking. Eventually, you have almost too much to carry and return to the slums. While you may be easily ignored, such an abundance of food can't easily be left alone...within a short time, one of the children, looking to be about 6 years is pulling at your shawl, asking for food. His mother pulls him back, apologizing for his rudeness. She still stares hungrily at your bounty, and the gauntness in their cheeks is evident of the trials they've been through.

-You couldn't provide your children. Would you not be damned already since they perished because of you?

    "BIGGER DEMONS."
He pales, and fumbles for something in his pocket. Taking it out, you recognize it as a flask. He drains it, before putting it back in his pocket.

You toss him the gold coin you made, and he catches it in midair.

"So, find anyone else who might need my services?"

He bites the coin to confirm it as real gold, and puts it in a pocket, convinced.

"Found a few. Ol' Jimmy thinks he ain't going to heaven, so he wants to make sure his last few days are happier than a pig in shit. He wants food, booze, and...well, that's it, really. Or make it one of those adjustable rate loans and make the base rate something affordable so they can pay a pittance a month to start, then hike up the rate so they default and we get their soul!

Why? Collateral is perfectly legal? I suspect this business model would be legal in the US today.

I suspect we'd be better off trying to make a run at being a legitimate bank. You'll make much more money sharking in the short term, but if you offer competitive interest rates, you'll end up getting a fuck of a lot more customers. In a volatile market, with no social security, we're going to get a lot of souls - hell, we'd get a lot of souls even if we charged no interest at all.

You see a shithole, I see a volatile market with no social security. We'll make bank because we'll be the bank.

"Take me to Old Jimmy!" You say imperiously. The old man snorts at your tone, but says nothing as he leads you through the sewers. Through winding passages and fume-filled hallways you travel, until eventually you arrive at a camp. It's small, and there's only one person visible, a pretty woman with too much makeup and too little clothing stirring a pot of...something unidentifiable. She smiles at the Old Man, and he tips his hat to her. He leads you to a pile of rags, and kicks it lightly.

"Eh, wot? Whatchawant?" The pile of rags reveals itself to be a skeletal man with a long white beard and eyes crusted over with disease. He coughs blood on to his hands, before feeling around with his hands for a stick. He picks himself up on it, and feels around again before finding the old mans shoulder.
    "Whatcha want?"
"I found someone who can help you. Well, make your last few days...a bit more comfortable."
    "Who is it?"
    "A...Demon."

Because it can. Who knows how much power it might get from consuming us? Maybe it gets however many souls we managed to scrape together and, as long as that's one or more, it's worth it. So, we're trying to shore up our power as fast as possible in the next few days to disincentivize that.

The Old Man brings you a dirty glass. You pour a strong drink, bland and flavourless aside from the strong, potent quantity of alchohol. You offer it to Jimmy, and he takes it hesitantly, his hands shaking. He takes a sip, and licks his lips. He then drains the whole glass, and sits down in the pile of rags.

"Good stuff, good stuff..." he mutters. He holds out his glass for more. You pour him another glass.

"You know...I was an adventurer once." He takes another gulp. "We were a right crew, we were." You pour him another glass. "We...didn't work out."

He begins telling his tale, of how he was the son of a blacksmith in a small town out in the country. He had eyes for an elven maiden who lived out in the woods, and in an attempt to earn her favour, gathered his friends, made them swords, and set off to slay a troll. The Troll-Witch dwelled deep in the caves beneath the forest, and emerged occasionally to steal children. His voice slurs as he talks about how they stalked it for days in those lightless tunnels, being picked off one by one. Eventually, only he was left, and he ran.
    >> Monster Quest !!2+7gWdDw/nh 02/21/12(Tue)14:27 No.18042446
He ran, ran for his life and left those tunnels with the cackles of the Troll-Witch still in his ears. He walked back to town, head held low as mothers wept for their lost sons and the Elven Maiden turned her gaze away from him. His father disowning him for the great waste, he wandered from town to town, begging and stealing for his every meal. One day, after he had begged and stolen enough to appear respectable, he returned to his town with a fat purse and fine clothing, and found it empty. The homes burnt, the bones of his friends and family strewn about on the ground. In his heart, he knew what had happened, and picked up the sword once more and returned to those lightless tunnels. Searching for days, he finally found the lair of the Troll-Witch, and slew her. Leaving the riches of her lair behind, he wandered from town to town, hunting monsters, rooting out the filth of the world, and gaining a name for himself. Eventually, young men and women began to follow him. heads filled with the thoughts of adventure and glory. He made friends, lovers, family, and eventually, found himself a wife. A young woman, half his age, head full of dreams, had stolen his heart.

Before the man retired, he told his friends that they had to keep the dream alive. A guild, as one would call it, to teach young men with heads full of dreams and hearts filled with anger to swing a sword and make a plan, so that no more frightened young men would find themselves in the lightless tunnels below the world, alone and afraid, hunted by great beasts.

The guild prospered and its coffers filled with the treasures of those monsters slain, but eventually, they questioned why a weary old man with more children then he knew what to do with was telling them how they did things. They knew not what he had done. They knew not what he had bled for.

Cast out, he could find no work to sustain himself. His children abandoned him, his wife starved, and eventually, he found his way to the sewers to die.

As his tale ends, Jimmy vomits over himself, and drops the still full glass. He coughs, and doesn't stop. As the Old Man and Carlotta walk over, concern on their faces, he continues coughing and spluttering, blood pouring from his lips, his eyes popped out with effort.

Eventually, he takes one last, rattling breath, and falls to the ground, his head cracking against the moist stone.

Carlotta buries her face in the Old Mans chest, weeping silently for Old Jimmy.

You walk up to the corpse, and remove something trying to float up through his clothing. It's worn, and scarred, and missing several pieces, but it's bright and blue and blazing. Old Jimmys soul is in your hands.

Go invisibly stalk the streets until we find him. Once we've done that, we can figure out our next steps from there. Probably wait until he's along somewhere or until we can find a good place to lure him away. Then we either taze him from behind, then continue to shock him while strangling him, or, if we lured him, convince him to kiss us or something, taze him during the physical contact, and then strangle him while shocking him.

Did we grow/mature again from this soul? If so, how tall/old do we appear?

Ah, almost forgot. You have gained (3 INCHES) from this soul. You are now 5'3". Relatively tall for a woman in this city.

Turning invisible, you begin stalking the streets, searching for the pimp. By the physical description she gave you, he's short, rather chubby, and he tries to grow a beard but can't manage more than a mustache.

Stalking the streets, you eventually find the man after a day of searching. You feel rather tired, and the man is surrounded by thugs of a very tall and thick-armed sort.

You begin following the man invisible, watching as he goes around demanding money from harlots and having those that can't pay beat by his thugs. Eventually, the sun sets, and he heads to a bar. Though a violent man, he's seemingly free with his money, and buys rounds for many people. The man doesn't drink anything himself, however, preferring to order large and lavish meals. Eventually, stuffed to the gills, he heads back to his home, a three story affair in the nicer part of town. His thugs leave for home, and he enters, locking the door behind him. There are two guards at the front door, the windows appear to be shut tight, and there are no alleyways to sneak around behind the building.

BTW OP, did you forget to give us a power with the whore's soul? Or is it going to start taking progressively more soul power to level up?
    >> Monster Quest !!2+7gWdDw/nh 02/21/12(Tue)18:42 No.18045031
You decide to check up on that thieving old woman and her brood. Heading up from the sewers, you go to the slums once more, weaving through the alleyways of the city. You go back to the spot where she grabbed you by the arm, and see them in the alleyway. The food is gone, and you can hear the children complaining about being hungry. The mother tries to comfort them, but to no avail.

    >Oh right almost forgot.

The soul of the whore is still burning in your gut. What will you do with it?

Can we do any of the following?

    Boost our dexterity and speed.
    Boost our durabiltiy.
Make us resistant to offensive magic.
Boost our magic reserves to keep from getting tired as quickly.
Make us able to steal souls with sex or murder or something.

    If not, boost shapeshifting.

    The following upgrades are available.

    >Celerity
Gain the speed and reaction times of a predator.
    >Iron Skin
Make yourself as tough as troll-hide.
    >Magic Resistance
Cut the negative effects of offensive magic in half.
    >Mana Pool
Double the time it takes to exhaust your internal reserves.
    >Soul Thief
Gain the ability to drain souls from corpses with an extended ritual.
    >Boneless
Shapeshift as if you had no internal structure.
    >Spell Upgrade
Upgrade any one of your spells, or learn a new one.

Gunning for shapeshifting. If we upgrade it one or two more times, we'll be able to operate within the city with impunity.

    >> Anonymous 02/21/12(Tue)18:51 No.18045134
I suggest we do Boneless, and then Soul Thief on the next upgrade.

That way we can just unhinge our jaw and gobble the corpse whole.

Oh, I actually really like that. I would prefer switching the order, though. That way we can murder someone, eat them the slow way once, and then get boneless. I think that's the path that will lead us to getting both abilities fastest.

Hey. Maybe we can get back to the Pimp's house and if the bodyguard didn't raise the alarm, we could sneak back in and claim the souls of the Pimp and the otherbodyguard? Heck, maybe we'll get to kill the one who's still alive and eat him too?

I would rather do it somewhere a bit more out of the way than that. It sounds like our first corpse eaten is going to have to get eaten the long way.

Alright, for the sake of speeding-this-the-fuck-up, Soul-Thief it is.

Your innards...shift, somehow. And for the first time, you feel hungry. You know now that your hunger is for something more than flesh.

And as this feeling washes over you, you also feel the bindings loosen and break...your last tie to the physical realm eroding away as your flesh begins to disappear into infinity.

"IT. IS. TIME." You hear booming in your skull.

And with that, we're done for now. I'll try to pick things up...this friday?
