    PREVIOUSLY ON METAHUMAN RENAISSANCE QUEST:
After incapacitating the Wolf-Girl, Dan moved silently to the early Metahuman exhibit, to cut off the necromancer. After making an Action Movie entrance into the room, and getting shot up with Force Lightning, Dan found his enemy 'Red', who is actually calling herself Syrpent, waiting on the ceiling, where she dropped down, disabling Miles the Necromancer, and offering Dan a cryptic ultimatum.

(Forgot to mention, but you recovered 6 Willpower for beating Wolf-Girl in combat)

Syrpent is staring right at you, while Ashwood glances back and forth between the two of you. "Hurry up Javelin. If you don't pick soon, I'll have to pick for you." You correct the look of confusion that is no doubt on your face, and center the Shard Rifle on her, since ditching it would warn her. You fire two cerulean darts at her, but she saw it coming, and back flips out of the way, the force putting 'Miles' in a slightly deeper dent in the floor, and she lands perfectly on a raised mezzanine area which leads to the upper floor of exhibits, giving her a nice view down on you. "Times up." She says, mockingly, as you toss the rifle aside. She seems much more with it tonight than yesterday.

I misread (Omega needs his daily dose of caffeine) Corrected it.

Multiple actions still stands, since you use the lower of two die pools and for even more than one bolt, that's another multiple action. Its just a little much to go crazy when its not a combat time. She's not declaring attacks against you, and actually, she seemed more interested in not fighting you, since she said it wasn't the right time.

Also, if we ever get the ability for Telekinesis, we may be able to direct charged bullets at a target (magnetic tunnet between barrel and target, clamped on with an 'hook' invert to the target's magnetic signature).

    (4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 2 on Persuasion. So No Matches)

"Heart!" You say, and jab a fist at Syrpent. Now its her turn to look deeply confused. You hear Ashwood facepalm in the background. You use the opportunity to address Red. "So, what do you want, Red? Trying to prove you're better to Moreau? Well, I give, I don't want to be better than you. I don't want to be better than anybody. I just want to live my life." She smiles again, with teeth. "No, no, no Daniel. We're past that now. This is about much more than the Good Doctor. It is about favors owed. I'm going to repay mine. And In return... Well, you'll see." "Whatever," you shoot back. "Let's go ahead and summon Captain Planet, take pollution down to zero." Ashwood groans now.

Red snarls. "Outdated popcultural references wont save you now!" She claps her hands together, and speaks in her freaky backward language she uses to cast spells. You get read to try and hit her with a Psibolt, but she's getting better at this, and in now time, two red circles of energy appear beside her. You are immediately incensed at her flagrant violation of the rules. Then you don't have time to be incensed, as pillars of red light appear, and coalesce into two strange, winged creatures. They are pitch black, except for certain areas of them, which are glowing luminous green. They have long, large wings, a cross between a bat's and a wasp's. They have pointed faces, with multifaceted eyes and antennae, like an insect, but a sharp, beak-like protrusion, filled with long sharp teeth and a long, licking tongue. It it is covered in a black, chitinous hide, but each of its four long limbs are tipped in razor sharp talons. "Have fun!" Red shouts, and retreats away from the edge, toward the doors into the upper floor of exhibits.

Byakhee are not inherently magical (Dan can tell) They are physical too, so they can probably break the plane of the circle. Also, Ashwood is still here.

The circle is useless against physical objects. If an Outsider is manifested in a full physical form, then they can break the plane easy-peasy.

You grab the pike from your back, and draw it, and summon your Option, ready to fire on any one you decide you don't like. It appears in its usual, multi-tone ball of blue and white light. The first Byakhee hops up onto the railing for the balcony-like area, and spreads its wings, which scatter the eerie green light of its abdomen around the room, and it lets out a piecing whistling screech which echoes around the room, hurting your ears. Its brethren does the same. They get ready to glide down, and probably do something nasty involving your throat, and their sharp, pointy teeth.

    (3x10 and 2x6 on Byakhee 1 and 2)
(They roll 2x10 and 2x6 respectively. #1 takes three shock and three killing to the FACE, and is quite dead, but #2 will burn his 2x6 to evade)

Left-handed, since your right is holding the spear, you hurl two bolts in quick succession. The first catches the first creature with its mouth wide open, and your bolt passes down its gullet, and out the back of its head, which explodes in a shower of green phosphorescent goo. It slumps to the ground, and rapidly starts becoming less corporeal, fading back to wherever it came from.

Number two is lucky, it saw what you did to thing 1, so when your bolt tracks its way, it takes a flying leap off the mezzanine railing, and sails through the air maybe a dozen yards to cling to the ceiling behind you, and hisses at you.

(No 10s on the Head Called shot)
(But Option makes 3x8 on its attack, for 3 shock and 3 killing to the torso.)
(And the Byakhee only gets a 2x3, which becomes no set when the Option shoots the bugger off the ceiling)

You try and catch its head with a bolt, but your angle is off, and all you do is obliterate some of the artfully decorated ceiling. The beast lets go of the section of ceiling its hanging onto, and tries to drop on you like some kind of space-wasp Batman. The Option catches it right in the center of mass, which causes a spatter of glowing green blood, and also pushes it off axis enough to crash to the floor in front of you. You are now about two feet away from a horrible space wasp with a maw full of pointy teeth which looks like its designed to puncture your neck and suck your blood out like an obscene mosquito.

    (2x5 on weapon attack)
(Byakhee gets 2x8 on a claw attack, which are Pen 1, but the armor is HAR 3, so you're fine. Since you don't take damage, your set goes through, and you take off its right arm.)
(Option also makes a 2x5, but since that hit location no longer exists, it misses)

Rip and tear, rip and tear! You swing the pike up in both hands, for an attack. The enemy is quicker than you thought, and one of its talons rakes our, scoring your armor with a sound at least five times worse than nails on a chalkboard. Finding yourself otherwise unharmed, you retaliate and take the offending arm off with a retaliatory sweep of your glaive. The Option must have had the same idea, because the void where its elbow would go takes a bolt about half a second later.

"There can be only one!" You declare, as you take half a pace back and reverse your blade, bringing it back across in a decapitating strike that takes the creature's beaked maw clean off. Molecular blades do that. There is a spurt of glowing green blood, some of which paints a streak across your armor. Then it collapses to the ground, and kind of disintegrates, leaving no remains. Except the phosphorescent blood stains. Of course, THOSE stay.

Ashwood, who was already maneuvering to help you, instead switches up and walks over to check Miles. He looks up at you, and says "You're the only one equipped to go after her. I'll say here and secure him, you go on ahead."

Psibolt is Pen 1, deals width in Shock and Killing damage, and you're up to 10 dice in it. (Coordination+Miracle). Before you ask, you guys keep missing because you make multiple actions or multiple called shots. The Psibolts are obvious though, so should you ever need to be stealthy
Shard Rifle is 6 Dice, Width in Shock and Killing, Pen 4
Knife and Glaive are both 5 Dice, but I usually give you a circumstantial bonus dice for reach with the Glaive. Polearms are pretty much designed to give you an advantage in situations against people who do not also have teh polearms. Knife does W in K and pike is W+1 in K, both are Pen 2.

    (2x7, 2x10 and 3x2 on Psibolt)
(She gets 2x4, 2x10 and 3x9 on her Walls of Unreality defense, so she can negate any set you make)

You hurl a bolt without thinking, chucking a comet of force at her. She speaks a quick word, and glowing glyphs of magic appear from nowhere, forming a wall which your bolt harmlessly smacks off of. She reaches the door to the roof, and doesn't even try and stop to open it, instead sticks out an arm at it. There is a coursing crackle of red sparks, and the door explodes off its hinges, and Red disappears out of sight, onto the roof top.

That's tied to your Barrier, currently, but the Barrier only has D on it. You'd need some new power, or something.

And, also, looking it up in the book, you can only use a power for Interference if it has that quality on. Meaning you can't also use it to do damage at the same time. You'd use it in unison with something to disrupt, then attack.

    (Relationships Invoked!)
(Syrpent is again dropping 2 WP to stay competitive)
(2x1, 2x3, 3x5 from Dan, not the greatest showing)
    (2x4, 2x9 and 3x1 from Option)
(She only gets 2x4, 2x5 and 2x9, but with Interference, she still cancels out Option's 2x9 and Dan's 3x5 (since she breaks the set))

You do another combination attack with you and option while moving forward, trying to close the distance. Again, bolts whistle through the air. This time, she spares a dangerous glance back at you, when she raises her ward again. This time, it actually works, and your bolts hit the walls of madness, dangerously close to her body. She's reached the edge now, where she comes to a halt at what may be the last possible second. Instantly, two spotlights are on her, and you hear indistinct voices shouting up at her through megaphones.

She spins around, and looks at you, she's panting heavily. It looks like shes trying to smile, but hasn't got the energy. She just stands there, resting with her heels hanging just over the edge. She's maybe 15 yards away, and you've got one chance left.

    (2x4 and 2x9 on Evocation)
(She gets 3x10 on Agility to get the fuck out of the way before that goes off)

You cry out for your earth evocation to try and catch her, but the instant you move, she simply leans back, and drops off the edge of the roof.

Moving quick, you rush up to the lip, and have to shade your eyes from the spotlights still aimed at that spot. You see her mid fall, looking up. There's no spell or anything, so how would she survive the fall? Then she speaks a horrible un-word. Whatever she said was so very wrong, on a fundamental level of this universe, your mind blanks it out entirely. You only know she said something, and it was bad.

    (2x3 on Stability)

You drop to your knees, feeling sick to your stomach, and light-headed, but manage to stay focused and conscious. At the same time, she spoke the un-word, all the streetlights on the block, and the spotlights the police dragged out, explode in a shower of sparks. The lights and sirens of the police vehicles skip for a couple seconds. And a big wound in reality opens up under Syrpent, and she drops through it out of sight, after which the steps up to the museum are just steps again.

Below on the street, you can hear some of the cops weeping or retching. You guess Metacrime will be here shortly.

We were the only one who really saw her there with any kind of credibility She'd owe us one, we'd be turning an enemy into an ally. We could take her someplace and start asking her questions. Maybe she knows something about Syrpent, or her motivations.

You head on back down, down the fire stairs, and back into the metahuman exhibit, which you find curiously empty. You keep going, back to the main lobby, and find Ashwood presiding over the wolf-girl, who is sitting more or less where you left her, cross-legged, with her hands in front of her. Her nose looks better, but not properly reset. Miles the Necromancer has become best friends with her other set of zip-cuffs, and is lying drooling and unconscious on the floor. Looks like his shoulder is dislocated.

"She get away?" Asks Ashwood. "Yep." You say, simply. "I'm surprised to didn't see her exit." You gesture vaguely at the front. "I heard it alright." He says, in response. He jerks his head at the two would be thieves. "How do you want to handle these two?" You shrug. "Tell it like it is? I mean, its our word against theirs at this point." You look down at yourself, then at the wolf-splice. "Though with me an' her, it'll be hard to prove much of anything happened." You gesture to the face that you're pretty much unblemished, and so is she. "Now I'm going to put these back, before the police snipers decide to to drop me." You say, half-joking. "Not so fast."

You turn to the entrance to see Police Captain Katherine Skinner, head of Metahuman Crimes Division is standing there, fully suited in her power armor, except for her helmet. In one arm is a giant ballistic shield you know is made from the same stuff tank armor is made from, and in her bionic arm is her Desert Eagle. She jabs a finger at you. "That's Evidence."

You tell the slightly expurgated version of your tale. She asks a couple questions which you answer. She nods at the end, then looks down at the two incapacitated criminals. She shoots a glance at at the wolf-girl, then back to you. "Meta-on-meta fights, especially for D-listers like you two don't do much for the jury, these days." She looks over her shoulder and whistles, and a few more metacops, in full armor gear walk up, and she addresses them. She points at Miles. "Cuff this one in an ambulance. His good arm. Then send the anti-magic unit over to his hospital. Have the detective with them book him on Trespass, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Attempted Grand Larceny. Also whatever we call it when somebody uses a mountain of corpses for something other than medical school." Two of them nod, and pick up Miles and carry him outside.

A lancer is someone who stabs a person with a spear in melee. It has to be about throwing, to fit with the psibolt thing. Basically, the option is Javelin. You can pick a different language, I guess, but whatever language it's in, it has to mean Javelin.

She turns to the wolf-girl. "Bagging you on the Trespass and the Assault charges, and when ATF hears about it, you'll probably be getting it Federal for the weapons without the proper stamps. And if what he says about the guard is true, that'll be 1st degree murder, later." Wolf-girl says simply, with her bad accent and recently unbroken nose "I'm a private contractor. My job to keep harm from coming to Mr. Gutermuth. Weapons were provided by the family. Their problem if they aren't legal." The captain crouches down in front of the girl, and narrows her eye. "Kid, you and I both know the US doesn't hold those Private Contractor laws up so high since the war ended." Wolf-girl sticks her tongue out at the captain, who sighs and stands up. "We'll see how that holds up with the judge. Book her." She says this last part to the remaining metacop. "Ashwood!" She shouts, and he appears from fucking nowhere. "Yes, captain?" "Since the family hasn't sent a lawyer yet, you have the joy of coming down to the station with me and Mr. Fortesque here, so I can get your statements signed, and Detectives Howard and Philips can talk to you. No, I'm saying a lance is specifically a melee spear. It's a specific type of spear, same as a javelin. You can totally stab with a javelin, or throw it, which makes it fit our psibolts so well. A lance, though, is too heavy to throw.

It's an obvious symbol of us. The real point, though, is that we don't go around with a mask and we haven't actually called ourselves Javelin since the first thread - it's only the rare NPC who refers to us by that sarcastically. We go by Dan Fortesque or, better, we don't even introduce ourselves to bad people. This isn't a topic that merits discussion.

Probably not. Their manufacture is a little outside of Human ability, and even Regis can't make interstellar special orders. While Cyreans aren't quite at nanofabrication, they are pushing that limit, so the armor is produced quickly using fabricators, custom fit to each soldier. Interference is like Armor, reduces the width of the chosen opponents set or sets. Well, though actually, since it has Duration, when you use it, it applies its interference sets to anything until its beaten or the combat/5 minutes are up. You just rolled 2x1 on the first set ever, so everything kept going through it until miss Bertha van Wolf-Ears actually hit you with a Suppressing Fire in location 1.

Yeah, we should probably train it up. Or get a better magical barrier, since that would probably be more adaptable.
