    Previous thread: >>18301838

Confronted by what you are almost now positive is a member of the Bleeding Sword, the witch hunters, you do the only thing you can think of.

A swift kick to the dick drops the man before he can react, and you scramble to grab the gun out of your holster.

The Sig pressed to your palm draws a bead right on his chest, and he freezes. You freeze.

"A wizard with a gun... Now that's a new one..." He groans, still bent over.

"Shut up!" You yell, seizing his own gun before toppling him with another kick.

Which leaves you standing over the fake-cop, his mustache peeling off at the side as he glares up at you, his glasses shattered.

"Just kill him and lets get out of here!" Kiara shouts.

We fled from home in part due to being forced to execute a traitor.

Also, dat. Mindwipe that we were ever here.

Or even better! See if we can implant the thought that we got the drop on him...and started making a run up the Atlantic Coast to New York City. The guy probably radioed us in to his organization, so just mindwiping him or killing him will put them on the hunt. Best to direct the hunt elsewhere for now.

If we leave him alive our location, car number and so on will be compromised. I'd rather not use a bullet if our gun isn't silenced though as it would attract a lot more attention than I would like. Pistol whip him unconscious, remove the earrings throw him in the back seat, Drive at exactly the speed limit and very casually. While Kiara works him over telepathically find out if we need to kill him and dump the body in some swamp or if we can mind wipe him.

if we do BLAMM this cop use his gun so they trace the round back to his weapon. Obviously don't leave fingerprints on it, unless we already did when we removed it then that doesn't matter.

still use cop's gun so our current one isn't hot or the round traced back to dad's mafia and atract attention of the hunters on to him. (Don't wana go save Dad only to have him die on Mom's anniversary death-day)
    >> Papa-N !!z0ABcqUnNAP 03/12/12(Mon)23:18 No.18305621
You kick him in the jaw, none to lightly.

The blow renders the man unconscious, his limbs flopping over as he goes limp.

"Well I guess that answers the question of whether or not they can track you." You tell Kiara.

"As though I couldn't have already guessed that!"

Using your Hawaiian shirt you fumble around, trying to remove his earrings. It takes a minute or so, but eventually you get them off.

"Alright does he know anything we need to know?"

"Hmm... Well they are on to us now, that much I can see. There is still a lot of interference, I wonder if he perhaps swallowed some platinum. That was an old trick of some of the knights, though it isn't as effective as the earrings."

    "And?" You press.

"Well, he isn't very high up on their food chain. He also isn't a cop and doesn't have a radio. He's not an amateur though, he's already called in our location but that was it. Arrogant fool thought he would bring us in on his own, didn't want to share the glory I guess."

"So can you mess with his memories? Make it seem like we weren't here?"

"Not exactly, I don't have that much power at the moment. I can scramble them a bit, slow him down. It would be better to just shoot him though."

You look up and down the street, and see no one else around. Checking your watch, its only 5:54 am so a lot of people will still be asleep. That doesn't mean you want to shoot him, though.

    >dispose of him? Something else?

Grabbing the unconscious man by his collar, you drag him through the mangroves until you reach the rocky shore. Making sure no one is around, you set him down and think for a moment.

Murder isn't really your cup of tea, after all.

"Just get on with it, and hurry! I don't want to be around here if more show up!" Kiara warns.

Seizing a rock, you poise above the man's head.

"Wait, can't you just eat him?" You ask, desperately seeking an alternative.

"And draw more attention? Removing the life force from a human would take a lot of power. Hit him with it." She says quietly.

You falter for several moments, thinking about what it is that you are about to do. No matter what this dude is, he is still a person, and that weighs heavily on you.

"Can I just turn him in?"

"Oh yeah, that will work great." Kiara huffs sarcastically, "Turn him in and he'll be out in an few hours or so, half a day at the most, with more backup than you have ammunition to deal with. Not only that, but he's seen your face and I can't erase that entirely."

"These men won't show you any kind of mercy, mortal. They will rip flesh from bone until they've extracted all they want to know, and then they will kill you." She adds.

The rock descends, cupped in your hand, until it collides with the man's face. Again. And again. Blood sprays, much landing on you, but you don't stop.

By the time you stop, a bloody crater is all that stares up at you.

    You've just killed another man.

"That's something you are going to have to get used to, and I'm sorry, but you will likely have to do it again."

"Shut the fuck up... Just... Just shut up." You let the rock fall from you grasp, your shaking grasp, as you sit down hard on the fossilized coral.

With trembling fingers you light up a smoke, averting your gaze from the body.

"We need to get out of here." Kiara says softly after a minute.

Doing your best not to think about it, you grab the body and drag it into the sea. Swimming out, you figure you've gone far enough, and the man's vest, now weighted with rocks, sinks him.

Around here, the sharks will get to him before anything else does. They generally don't leave much behind. Your father taught you that. He taught you a lot of things. Like how fast a car sinks when it sails into the ocean at 70mph off of a dirt road.

Washing yourself off as best you can, you clean up the scene of the grisly murder, tossing the rock as far out as you can manage.

The trek back to your car feels like it takes forever.

    "I'm sorry." Kiera says softly.

"Don't talk to me for a while." You turn the key, and fire up the engine.

There are a couple of things we need to do. One, get the fuck out of there. He called it in. They only sensed a presence, so they don't know what vehicle we are using. But It's safe to say with whatever type of magic they have, they'll be able to figure out what happened here eventually. We gotta get some distance.

Also, I just want to make a point that we should, at all possible, leave our father's organization out of this. If the bleed swords find that he's backing us up, they will rip them apart without even a whimper. Our father's not the best of men, but he's been good (in his own way) to us; I'd hate to see everything he's worked for and done destroyed because of us meddling with a (nearly) two thousand year old organization.

You do your best to think about other things, like how good your engine seems to be running, and how slow progress is during the morning rush hour.

That still can't erase the gravity of what you've just done.

"He's sent more than his share of kids to a terrible fate, if its any condolence." Kiara's first words since leaving the scene.

    "It isn't."

"I didn't expect it would be."

The conversation falls quiet as you finally exit the last of the keys, and get into some 70mph territory. The speed feels nice, nice enough to almost make you wish your car was a convertible. Almost.

"They don't know its you, do they?" You ask, figuring maybe talking some will help.

"No, they just thought it was you, a young magic user. Thankfully."

    Well, that's something at least.

"Going to be a long ride to 'bama." You comment, grabbing a handful of cigs and stuffing them into your mouth. You stopped at a gas station and bought every carton of reds that they had.

"Anything you want to talk about?" Kiara asks, and you can tell she's really doing her best to try to help you through this.

"Yeah that's what I fucking figured." You sigh and shake your head, hating what this is quickly becoming.

"That isn't to say there isn't light at the end of this long dark tunnel. If I can piece myself back together, obtain the power I lost so long ago, I can end this all." She says with a hopeful tone.

"Can you? Can you really? Seems like its just going to be an endless cycle of shit, one way or the other."

"I can and I will. Though it will take time, I can crush the Bleeding Sword, I'm sure of it."

"Uh huh. Any help from some other immortal jackass?"

"I don't appreciate your tone. And no, I doubt there are any left of my caliber if the Order has become this powerful. Eventually I might be able to piece more back, maybe, but just finding them alone will be nearly impossible I think."

"So how do you plan on doing it?" You ask, frustrated by her confidence.

"I'll have to wait until I'm whole again to know. Years have likely weakened my power, as a soul in captivity loses much when cut off from sources of magic. If I can corner the Order back somewhat, I may be able to train some new help. All I know is, is that it will take time, a lot of time."

Man, we're deep in feel territory.

Although staying alive is a great motivation, we need to find a personal reason; be it moral, physical, or spiritual, to stick through this and actually go through hell to put Her back together.

If we're really role playing as this person, I think we'd be seriously considering ending ourselves right here.

What I want to ask her is this:
"Please, just give me a reason, a good reason, to go trough with this. Some cause, or justification. Anything. I can't go on with this 'Kill or be Killed.' I left that when I left my dad. Or at least I tried."

    "Give me a reason?"

    "A reason?"

"Yeah, a reason. A reason to not just give up and let you find someone else. You can see my memories, you can see that the whole fucking reason I left my old life behind was because it wasn't me. "So what exactly did they do during the crusades? Who funded them? Were they a branch off of something?"

"Well if you've read anything about them, you already know they were witch hunters. Though I digress, hardly the same kind as those more publicized. No, the Order seemed to have a more solid method to their madness then simply going after those accused of being witches. As far as who funded them or where they came from, I'm not certain, but they had direct ties to the Pope it seems, for as long as they were around."

"The Pope? The head honcho himself?" You ask, surprised.

"Indeed the Pope. It seems he gave them a lot of free reign, as well as a great deal of money."

"So were they based in Rome?"

"From what I gather, yes. Though I can't target a specific church or monastery where they originated." The Professor says, sitting forward and getting into the conversation.

"Any idea where they went? Why they dissipated? I've read something alluding to a big event in the thirteen hundreds, would that have anything to do with it?"

"Well, as far as what happened to the order, I can't really say. My guess is that they served their purpose and were simply weaned of funding much as many other orders were. Though concerning the event in the 1300's, I can speak a bit. From what I've gathered, it appears that the order was interested in one witch in particular that they thought was threat enough to devote most of their time to it."

    This certainly sparks your interest.

While I certainly don't believe in witchcraft, they most certainly did. A few ancient texts allude to a witch gifted with the ability to bend nature to her will, but give little as far as specifics are concerned."

"Can you give me any specifics? Maybe a name?"

"Hmm, a name, a name... All I've ever seen it referenced as translates roughly as "The One Who Watches", or simply "The Watcher." Though that name predates the crusades by quite a bit, it seems to be the most prominent of the names, and therefor a likely candidate for whom they sought." The Professor takes a sip out of a mug before continuing.

"I believe the one referenced as "She Who Thirsts" may be one and the same witch, but its hard to tell. There were a few references to one simply called "Ruin", who may or may not be the same witch, its difficult to try to tie any of these together, after all."

"Ah, yeah I guess. So why were they even hunting witches?"

"Well, likely the same reasons the church has always been. Going after those who go against god, in their minds. They certainly believed they were an imminent threat to the stability of their respective kingdoms, as well as their faith."

"Could they have been just hunting down political undesirables as well?" You ask.

"Most certainly, yes. Though I believe there was more to it then that. These were men that truly believed they were hunting down witches. It is strange, however, as the texts don't allude much to what it is that they DID with these witches."

"You don't think they just burned them at the stake?"

"Its possible, yes. But from what I can tell, I believe that they brought a great many back with them, across the sea. I've seen one reference to a place called "The Grave of Heretics", which may be a reference to where they were taken, but there was no mention of "The Watcher" being taken there."

"Any indication as to why the order thought that this particular witch was such a threat? This "Ruin" or "The Watcher"?"

    The professor chuckles.

"Seems you are more interested in witches than those who sought them."

"Well, I like to see all sides of the story. My thesis is on witches and why they were hunted, after all."

"Well, as far as I can tell, and this is very speculative, mind you... They thought she was capable of ending the earth, or so I believe."

"Ending... The earth?" You ask, shocked.

"Indeed. Though the local accounts seem to pin her more as one who dealt little in the affairs of the state and such. In fact most of the references paint her more as an aloof being who perhaps blessed the land with bountiful harvest and fended off disease. There are others, however, that speak of a terrible wrath that gripped the land for quite some time, around 800ad or so, though there are no specifics I'm afraid."

"Going back to the Grave of Heretics, any idea where it might be located?"

"Oh well certainly, there are several good indications. If I had to pin it down, it would be in Rome. Perhaps even in the Vatican itself."

"But The Watcher or Ruin? Were they taken there?"

"Well the texts don't mention it, though it certainly is possible." McGruff shrugs.

"Do you know of any other sites with ties to the group- not necessarily having to do with witches, but any places they would have been based from? They seem too widespread to have worked from Rome alone.

"Anything else interesting that you've been able to turn up about the Bleeding Swords? I'd be interested in any references, if you can provide them- there's nothing like reading something yourself, after all."

Historyfag here. Shortly after Charlemagne was crowned Holy Roman Emperor there was a long famine caused by several severe winters. Charlemagne had hammered the Empire together strongly enough that it was able to weather the crisis and enter an era of prosperity.

Too bad he split the Empire up between his idiot sons.

"He holding anything from me?" You mentally ask Kiara, "Also "Ruin" and "She Who Thirsts"? I'm not so sure I'm helping the good guy here..."

"No, he's being honest. In fact he's giving you information as fast as I've been gleaning it. As far as the titles are concerned, I'm not the one who came up with them."

"Maybe not, but did you earn them?"

"I toppled an Empire, the strongest of the time. You figure it out." She huffs.

"So when was the last mention of the order?" You ask the Professor.

"Well the last I've found was published in the early fifteen hundreds, and I've found no more after that. Its my guess that money was sieved away from them and channeled to the Inquisition itself. Certainly they don't appear in any later texts."

"And their headquarters? Any idea where that might be? Or where they operated out of?"

"I've never found any information concerning their HQ, but I would guess somewhere in Rome as most seemed to be of Italian origins, though there were many French members as well it would seem. Most of these kinds of organizations didn't rely strongly on a central base."

"Ah that makes sense. Have you ever heard about any of their rituals? I've read something referring to "Rending", does that ring a bell?"

"No I'm afraid I've never heard of it, though it certainly sounds interesting. I do know they had a rather noticeable attraction to platinum. In fact, they seem to have plated their swords in it, which was quite marvelous technology for the time. It also speaks to their great wealth."

"You think platinum was used as a weapon? Know of any more?"

"I do indeed, they even speak of its strength against magic in a few old tomes. As far as other weapons, I'm unsure. Though the order did seem to place a great deal of emphasis on mental training for their members, as well as a requirement to plate helms in platinum, as well as platinum earrings. Quite bizarre if you ask me."
