Its a fusion of Zero, Guardian force, and the Zoids battle story.

Basically, the meteor fucked up the Empire and Helic Republic armies, and they scrambled to build up their forces. However, the war ended with a political negotiation rather than a desicive battle.

Now both countries were stuck with a surplus of war machines, soldiers, and mercenaries.

One official got the bright idea of starting up the Battle sports similar to the shows. This gave the zoids a purpose, the zoid pilots something to do, and appeased the masses as a whole.

The battle circuit lead to an economic boom and became incredibly popular. It's been 30 years, and the peace treaty still holds, but not everything is coming up roses. There are plenty of bandits, wild zoids, and radical fashions kicking up dust. So far the authorities have kept things in check, but that can change anytime.

You are Gerald DeFlynn, citizen of the Empire. You worked in your father's mercenary company since you were 19, getting a nice scar as a momento from a rather nasty skirmish with some bandits.

After mercenary work dried up, your father disbanded the troup and set up a mining company in the Northern Empire, near the Devil's Maze. You yourself, being young and ambitious, opted to join the Zoid Battle Federation.

Taking your trusty Molga to the local ZBF Terminal, you prepare to take the registration test and officialy join the battle ranks.

(only low grade zoids right now. if you want something fancier you'll have to buy/find it)

The administrater at the desk accepts your forms and directs you to the test field. You rev your Molga up and procede to the obstacle course. Since the Molga is not able to jump, you only have to manuever through some barricade with a time limit.

Next is the Target Test. There are five automated targets moving randomly. You must shoot them all within 2 minutes to pass.

Image shows your position. the red circles are the targets. they grey blocks are obstacles. The ground is dirt if you wish to burrow.

    (Your 35 faces forward)

You turn east, accelerating to reach the targets before they can reposition again. You fire your quad of guns, however one makes it behind a barrier before you can rake it with fire.

Another target however, does not fair so well, and is torn to pieces.

A quick check on your console shows that you currently have 65% of your 20mm ammo remaining.

    >> Liger Hater 03/24/12(Sat)01:18 No.18436753
I'm assuming it's faster at this point to just move simply because of the fact that we'd have to go down first, then move forward. Then again, I don't know the ergonomics of Molga movement.

Also, vid related. We need to get that cannon asap.

You turn SW and engage the Laser Cutter. You burrow through the ground, at maximum acceleration. The direct line shaves off a few seconds, and as you pop out on the other side of the barrier, you catch a nearby target with a short and sweet burst of delicious 20 mm bullets.

A far range target has no where to go, giving you plenty of time to line up and blow a hole in it with a shot of your 35mm.

One target left, 1:14 time remaining.

It really isn't much of a test anymore. You clear the narrow corner and roll your Molga's head to the left, giving your 35 a clear shot. You don't even need to aim carefully, and blow another hole in the center.

The target drops, and you hear a buzzer as a red symbol flashes on your screen.

    End time-0:57
    All targets hit.

"Very good, Mr. DeFlyn." the directer of the terminal addresses you over your comm. "Not many would perform so well with such an archaic zoid. You quite impressed some of our spectators."

    Spectators? Who'd bother watching this?
Regardless, you offer him your thanks, and wheel your trusty Molga out of the training area.

You can proceed to the service desk and finish your licensing, or do something else.

You make you way to the desk, finishing some forms and paying the licensing fee.
This unfortunately is half of your current holdings, leaving you with only 400 credits to your name.

Curiosity getting the better of you, you walk up the stairs leading to the observation deck of the Shooting area. A few men wearing Commision uniforms walk past you. One leers at you as he pauses for a moment.
"You know, we have to fill that hole you dug in there."
You stiffen a little and apologize, he just leaves with a huff.

You reach the observation deck, and see a few people who stuck around. Spotting what you believe is the chairman from earlier chatting with some Commission employees. There's also a orange haired girl in regular clothes fiddling with a data pad. She spots you and gives a friendly wave.

She beams as she hands you a card.
"I'm Eri, by the way. The other person's name is Vince. He's kinda like you. We're just a new D-class team, we don't even have a name yet." She frowns a bit. "Vince says we should get at least 2 more people before doing any official battles. It's hard starting out."

She lights up a bit. "Oh by the way, we have plenty of hangar space, so you can come by and fix your zoid up if you don't have anywhere else."
You thank her and assure her you'll keep them in mind. She excuses herself and waves as she head down the stairs.

You look around and only spy the commissioner and some other employees. You wonder who you should talk to when you feel a pair of eyes on you. You instinctively reach for your pistol, which you don't have on you, as you turn to see a man with an eye-patch lounging in a chair.
He's staring at you intently, a wide grin on his face. This is not the friendly smile Eri had earlier. It's sinister, threatening even.

At some point (clearly not this second) we should look that girls team up, see what zoids they have, how much experience (if any, probably almost none) and what the quality of their facilities are. I'm thinking that considering they already have a hangar with enough space for us to casually come along and fix up our zoid then at least one of them was born with a silver spoon in their mouth (someone on the team is cashed up) so this could potientially be a very good thing.

As to what to do now, I say we ignore the sinisterness of the smile, walk over and confidently introduce ourselves (offer a handshake and give our name "Gerald DeFlynn, and you are?"). Lets find out who this guy is. I am guessing a future opponent on a strong team.

You return to your Molga and it roa-uh, squeals to life. You head west, to the town your job is in.

You line up and push the top boulder off, its slightly smaller then the Molga's head. It holds for a moment, then pushes out of the way fairly easily.

    Sorry for missing your question.

Nah, the site didn't end up doing well, with the hundreds of prior players players maybe 30 of us made the jump and amongst that everyone got Mary Sue custom zoids. Overall it imploded within a month or so.

Seriously, back in those days I didn't have the phrase at hand to launch at the stupid site admin, but nothing else compares to some of the Genosaurer variants shooting liquid nitrogen beams and being immune to energy weapons shenanigans going on.

Ffs, those were given out as starter zoids. Makes me pissed just to remember that.

Anyway, it'd be years later that I found out the (original site's) Zoid stats came from Zoids Vs. II/III, but in the end after Cartoon Network stopped playing the shows interest never took off again.
    >> Zoid Mother !4R91sg9LEA 03/24/12(Sat)03:44 No.18438014
You borrow some cables, and tie them around the boulders after chipping at the with the Laser cutter. You pull them out one at a time, and in a mere 30 minutes after you started you're done. The canal is completely undamaged, and the townspeople now have three intact rocks that they can use. The Mayor is so pleased he gives you an extra sum along with the 300 the job promised, bringing you up to 900 credits total.

Yeah bid them fairwell and head back towards the terminal. Realizing you need to get ready for the battle tomorrow, you take out the card Eri gave you. Their base isn't far, so you head towards it, looking forward to a well earned rest.

Do you know of any currently running decent Zoids rpg forums at the moment? Would live to play a game of this on IRC but I don't have the time for that. Was looking around on google but they all look amazingly terrible and filled with 15 year olds who describe their character as "Evil"...

Did you ever write more about dem partridges?

I've been trolling /o/, /k/, and /sp/ all day to alleviate my HUE but reading about them might help
