My friends and I are making a video game, and I figured the best way to come up with the plot portion would be to run a quest thread, if that floats your guys' collective boats. Alright, here we go.

You are a clone soldier, crafted by Prometheus International. Thanks to your genetic superiority, you have been selected as the team leader for your squad. Your team consists of yourself, two combat-equipped soldier units, and a trained hacker. Still rather fresh from the cloning bay, you've been assigned to a relatively low-risk operation: kidnap the manager of a small SigmaCorp outpost and extract any research they have stored on their server. There may be some amount of armed resistance, but nothing your team cannot handle. Any casualties sustained can be recloned, but the process is rather expensive, so avoid death. You have access to the Prometheus armory, but due to the circumstances, equipment is limited. Briefing has just concluded, and when your team is ready, the APC is ready in the garage.

There's a few choices here. You and your soldiers are equipped with standard issue Prometheus Assault Rifles and Prometheus Handguns. The hacker has a Prometheus Remote Hacking Module and Prometheus Medical Kit. You are contractually obliged to say the full product name every time. You can switch out your Prometheus Assault Rifle for a Prometheus Shotgun or Prometheus Stealth-Rifle. Prometheus Handgun for a Prometheus Plasma Knife or a Prometheus Medical Kit.

For the sake of pacing, these changes will get retroactively applied. Sorry for being so slow, guys.

    >>18505479
Packed up, ready to go, your team gets loaded up and heads out. You pull up just close enough to the SigmaCorp building to see what's going on. It's a two story building, fire escape on the right side. Maintenance door on the left. Communications tower on the roof. Two guards by the front door. Scans show an internal alarm system linked to very strong safety doors.

The Prometheus Stealth-Rifle is the latest in modern stealth technology. While slower-firing and less powerful than the Prometheus Assault Rifle, it makes up for this in its ability to fire almost silently, a key factor in why it is prized by assassins and agents worldwide.

The Prometheus Plasma Knife utilizes revolutionary plasma technology to create an extremely powerful cutting blade that can slice clean through most metals.

    >>18505608
The Prometheus Remote Hacking Module is a recent development that allows a skilled hacker to access circuit systems and make changes necessary for operatives to act effectively in certain missions. Other corporations have begun to research and develop similar devices, but Prometheus currently has the most advanced systems on the market. It is highly likely that basic alarm systems can be overcome by proper operation of the device.

The APC has a mounted machine gun turret that can be operated by AI or by remote control.

    I like this.

How legal is this? Are we in a "corporations are nations" world or is there still some form (however corrupt) of government left?

Which of our objectives is the priority?
If the CEO is priority then accessing the roof and working down would probably be in our best interest since his office is probably near the top. If Info is the priority then accessing the servers, probably located below ground, would probably be easiest via the maintenance door.

While stealth is in our best interest whether this is legal or not, it's obviously more important if it's illegal.
Sewer or underground access possible? Possibly using some form of Prometheus Directed Explosive Device?

Corporations are essentially nations. Any former semblance of government has been bought out to the point of being completely irrelevant to the point of police uniforms having corporate logos on them representative of whatever company owns their jurisdiction.

Since laws are extremely poorly enforced, legality is no matter. However, when the higher-ups discover what has happened, if they found out Prometheus was behind the attack, they would put up far more resistance soon after. This could potentially be muffled through destruction of communications equipment, or through leaving no survivors.

The CEO is vital to return to base and obtain administrative access codes to more secure SigmaCorp servers, thus he is the primary objective. Any research obtained from SigmaCorp servers can potentially be used to improve Prometheus equipment.

A sewer line does run under the building, so underground access is a possibility.

    >> Anonymous 03/29/12(Thu)21:23 No.18506004
While stealth during the mission would make it easier, it is not a critical component if we can remove the evidence. This means elimination of all witnesses, destruction of recorded security footage, and stopping all communication during the incident.
Stopping communication can be done by setting up a Prometheus Portable Wide Spectrum Jamming Device and destroying the comm tower, unless the building has wired net access as well as wireless.
If it has wired access then we must sever that before they have any chance of detecting us, as well as destroy the comm tower.
This seems to call for a simultaneous strike at the roof and through underground access.
while the APC can keep any personnel from leaving the site.

The information will probably be stored underground so the hacker should join the strike from below, get the information, destroy the servers to avoid security footage to be stored on site and sever wired connections to avoid direct transmission to SigmaCorp HQ.
While the roof strike team severs wireless communications and extracts the manager, whose office will probably be located on the second floor.
Having the APC provide suppressing fire and distraction would be beneficial but that would probably stretch our resources too thin, unless its AI can function independently.

I count us needing 3 Prometheus Versatile Explosive Units for this plan, though. 1 to breach from sewers, 1 to destroy the comm tower and one to destroy the servers. Is it possible to retcon the number of Prometheus Versatile Explosive Units available to us?

Cool idea. I'd prefer to see a game that allows the player to make these kinds of decisions themselves, but the complexity of developing that would probably be hell, especially for indie developers.

Will the strategies we come up with be scripted into the missions or will they simply be examples of what players will want to try with the scenarios presented?

The camera control server is located inside the main internal server area on the first floor.

The Team Leader incapacitates two more security guards and declares the first floor clear. There was one secretary at the front desk who was also incapacitated. All security guards are moved into a storage room and safely locked up. The nonlethal rounds will have caused slight memory loss in them, causing your squad to be unidentifiable when they are interrogated. Two, Leader, and Hacker make their way into the server room and prepare for the download of source code, which has an ETA of 20 minutes.

Soldier One moves towards the Manager's office. He stacks up on the door, but suddenly it bursts open. Two's vision is filled with static and he is disoriented. Training takes over and he makes it to cover, but his cybernetic systems are severely malfunctioning. Gunfire opens up around him, and he manages to get a commlink out to the rest of the team requesting help.

Leader is to exit the building, incapacitate the two guards out front, and proceed up the fire escape.

Two and Hacker are to retreat to the elevator. Two will take the ladder up to the second floor and support One.

On second thought, Hacker is to use the APC's turret to incapacitate the guards out front before Leader exits.

The Hacker mans the turret and easily dispatches the two guards in front. Leader sprints to the fire escape and begins his ascent. Two runs back into the elevator shaft and starts climbing the ladder. They make it to the top at about the same time, arriving to see a heavily armored soldier in the Manager's office doorway operating a SigmaCorp Submachine Gun and a SigmaCorp Prototype Remote Hacking Device. He is firing towards One, who is remaining in cover. His systems have partially recovered, but it will take another 30 seconds for him to be fully functional again.

No information on the model of armor is available, it may be a prototype. Considering the cybernetic construction, electromagnetic rounds may very well cause his systems to malfunction.

can the Prometheus Versatile Explosive Unit be configured as a stungrenade?
If so, have One lob his while Leader and Two provide suppression and additional non-lethal damage

Leader and Two begin firing on the unknown soldier, completely depriving him of cover. The soldier spins and fires a large volume of rounds at Two, causing him to lose balance and knocks him down the elevator shaft. The Hacker rushes to Two and preps his Prometheus Medical Kit. The Leader's electromagnetic rounds cause his armor to lock up, preventing him from moving. One, now mostly recovered, rushes the soldier and knocks him down, then strips him of his weapons. The Manager is cowering in the corner shouting threats in a shaky voice.

What is the status of Two?

One is to incapacitate the manager and secure him.

Leader is to recover the Prototype Remote Hacking Device and, if possible, open the soldier's armor so that he can be rendered unconscious.

After doing some preliminary medical work, the Hacker says Two will live, but when all is said and done he'll need medical treatment back at base.

One grabs the Manager and chokeholds him into unconsciousness. Leader opens up the helmet visor for the soldier's armor and knocks him out with one very forceful punch to the head. The manager and prototype are secured. All that is left is to raid the server, download the source code, and destroy all evidence that you were ever here.

Is the soldier's armor something Prometheus would benefit from having? If not, stow the soldier with the other security personnel.

Leader is to retrieve the two security personnel at the front of the building and put them in storage.

Hacker is to head to the server room, disable any security devices still remaining, and prepare to download the source code.

One is to affix a Prometheus Versatile Explosive Unit to the communications hardware on the roof, to be triggered when the download is complete.

Leader is to use a Prometheus Versatile Explosive Unit to destroy the server room when the download is complete. Any backup units or additional security hardware that could store camera footage, if not present in the server room, is to be similarly destroyed.

The building is to be swept for anything of further interest to Prometheus. Hacker is to probe the servers for any data of interest, as well as the manager's terminal, if it is a separate system.

The Leader and One stash the soldier and the manager into the APC, as well as dropping off the prototype. Hell, why not the submachine gun and the handguns too. Two is also loaded in.

The source code transmission has come in, and the Hacker downloads it. Another objective completed. He then begins to browse through the other files on the server. There are a few curious files on there. Some interesting research, a few notes on that armor, a few stolen pieces of intel from the Akai-Ryu Technologies corporation, and a heavily encrypted file titled PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR. These are all downloaded. The Hacker puts a few Akai-Ryu signatures on the hard drive to pin the blame on them in case of recovery.

One and Leader utilize their explosives to destroy the servers and communications tower. The three move into the APC to head back to base for debriefing.

    OPERATION: SUCCESSFUL

The Manager is ID chipped to give a GPS location to HQ at all times. However, the APC interior is shielded to prevent such signals from leaving.

    7 HOURS LATER

The Regional Manager of Prometheus International is very pleased with your work. You've done the company a great service. He has Dr. Rachel Andrews, the technical advisor, explain the technological aspects of your mission rewards. Thanks to the data you've recovered, many upgrades to the Remote Hacking Device can be made. The prototype opened up entirely new signal paths and breaching abilities, allowing for far more specific and devastating actions against electronic systems and even enemy combatants. You can disable their weapons, their ability to move, or their vision now. The Submachine Gun was successfully replicated, so that is now a usable option as a secondary piece of equipment. The Handgun's damage was successfully increased thanks to the recovered Handguns from the site. R&D is also now being performed in replicating the powered armor that your opponent controlled. Attempts to unencrypt PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR have thus far been fruitless.

Akai-Ryu Technology has become outraged at the recent incident, denying any involvement. SigmaCorp launched an armed offensive as a retaliation against one of their local stations.

Two will be temporarily out of commission for three days while he undergoes accelerated regeneration therapy. The Manager quickly succumbed to advanced interrogation techniques and gave out a long list of access codes to various SigmaCorp sites. He also revealed that they had been spying on Akai-Ryu Technology and they discovered a fatal security flaw in their security system, which would make for a very easy breaching operation.

If you would like it to be, it is entirely up to you all.

Unfortunately, I'll have to end the quest here for the night since I have tons of stuff to do in the morning, but I'll be happy to resume sometime later tomorrow if there is enough interest.

Thank you all for humoring me, and I look forward to hosting Acceptable Casualties for you in the future!
