    75 KB Zoids Quest : Episode 3 Zoid Mother !4R91sg9LEA 04/06/12(Fri)20:16 No.18600820
Back by not so popular demand, its another episode of Zoids Quest.
    Previous Thread:

You are Gerald DeFlynn, former small time mercenary turned ZBF warrior. In our last episode, you responded to an emergency call from a Merder courier under attack by bandits.

After linking up with Rob, the courier pilot, and out-stealthing two guys that could turn invisible, you made out with some rather sweet salvage, as well as a bro for life.

You now head towards the coordinates you got from Eri, a member from an upstart zoid team, to get some well earned rest and repairs.

As the sun nearly sets in the horizon, you finaly catch a glimpse of your destination. You and Rob have kept an eye out for any more trouble, but none has surfaced, allowing you to maintian a steady pace.

The building is built directly into a large stone plateau, a common sight in the region. Getting a close look, the place has seen better days. The hangar doors are still whole, but greatly battered by the elements. One hinge looks like it could fall off at any moment.

["You sure this is it bro?"] Rob asks over the radio. You return an affirmative, despite seeing no trace of Eri. It matches the coordinates, but there are no signs of activity on the outside.

You scan around the entrance for any signs of traps, but find none. Since you can't really open the hanger doors from the outside, you exit the Molga and make your way to the personnel entrance.

You find it locked, though somewhat shakily so. You see some form of intercom device, and press the button. There's a brief ring, and after nearly a minute a rushed voice comes through the speaker.
    ["Hello?"]
Recognising the voice, you greet her.
["Oh, hey Gerald! Glad you decided to stop by. Hmm? Who's that out there with you?"]

You inform her its a long story, but the person in question is a friend of yours. You tell her you are in need of repairs and ask if she'll open the doors.

["Sure thing, just give me a second."]

After a moment, the hear the doors strain, then open slowly. You get back in your zoid and the two of you head inside.

Inside, the place is an untidy mess, with cords and looses parts all over the floor. One of the lift beams in the ceiling has broken and hanging down, and there are a few wrecked zoids over in a corner.

Stopping in a maintenance square, you get out and are soon greeted by Eri in person.

"Sorry for the mess," she says, a bit red in the face. "this place hasn't been in good condition for some years now."

She takes a look at your Molga and gasp. "Oh my god, what happened? These gouges are from a battle."

You give her a brief description of what happened.
"Wow, good job winning in that situation. And you say you salvaged a Helcat?"
You nod and point over to where you disconected your tow in front of the nearest lift.

At that time Rob has made his way over to you.
"Oh, hello." Eri greets him warmly. "I'm Eri, whats your name?"
Rob freezes for a moment, then takes her hand.
"Robert Hatchman." he states in a faux gentlemanly fashion.

Eri sighs at the mention of this.
"My dad opened this place 5 years after the Cataclysm. It did well for a while, lots of people came to get their zoids serviced in the chaos back then. About ten years ago, though, busines just stopped coming in. More places to repair zoids kept popping up, and hardly anyone wanted to come out to the middle of nowhere for repairs."

She looked around the hangar melancholily. "We've just barely managed to get by recently. Vince came along and proposed forming a team. He's an acquaintance of my family, and I didn't know what else to do, so I agreed."

    >>18601457
Going over the damage of your Molga, she estimates she can have it fixed with parts she has on hand.
"I'll just put it on your tab for now." she winks, recovering from the solom mood she was in.

Rob brings out the tied bandit you captured and lays him on the floor.
"You caught one?" Eri inquires from gathering some parts.
"Yeah, looks like he's still passed out. He might be in a bad way. What do you think, bro, should we help him?"

You ask Eri if there's any sort of Medbay on sight.
"We have a makeshift infirmary in the living quarters. I'll lead you to it."
You and Rob heft the man up and start carrying him out of the hangar and down the hall Eri leads you to.
"Here we are," she says, leading you inside a room while she fumbles for the light switch.

You both set the man down as the lights click on. Suddenly someone bolts upright, startling you both.
An older, tired looking man stumbles toward you, placing a hand on your face.
"Danny?" he slurs, likely intoxicated. "Is that you, Danny boy? Oh finally, you came home!"
You pull back uncomfortably, and Eri dashes over to you and pulls him off.
"Daddy, no! You've been drinking again, haven't you?"
She leads him toward the door
"Eri, sweetie, its ok to drink, Danny's home!"
"Dad," she says, helping the man straiten up, "that's not Danny, it's someone else."
She helps him to the opposite room, and comes back a minute later after you and Rob have the bandit resting on a cot. You think you see a tear in here eye as she goes by to get some medical equipment out of the cabinet.

You keep quiet, sharing a nod with Rob. You wait a minute to give her a chance to calm herself down, then walk next to her and give her a hand.
You have some monitoring equipment hooked up to the man on the cot, and find his vitals are all stable. Eri takes a penlight and checks both of his eyes.
"I'm not an expert, but I'd say he's got a light concussion." she leans back and sighs. "Not really anything we can do, except take him to the authorities."

"I guess I can drop him off." Rob offers. "My Merder can run full speed if we patch its leg a little more."
"What were you transporting anyway?" Eri pipes up.
Rob shrugs. "Just basic stuff like weapon components and amo people needed in a hurry. What bugs me is it was on my returne route that they jumped me. I didn't have squat in my hold."
    "Money?" she offers.

Rob shakes his head. "Not possible." He takes out a little device from his pocket. "Payments are made on this thing, it can only send creds to my station. Its designed so you cant get credits with it, no way to hack it either."

An epiphany hits you. You ask Rob how many people could fit in the Merder's hold.
"Hm? I guess around 8, ten or twelve if you squeezed it tight."
"And if they all had weapons?" you add.

It takes a few seconds, but his face suddenly goes pale when the realization hits him.
"Holy shit, they could sneak in ten armed guys into our station, easy!"
"And if they got you after you made all your stops," Eri interject, "there wouldn't be any complaint calls about not getting their deliveries. If they times everything right..."

Rob goes nuts. "This is heavy, I got to call my boss about this, I don't know who else was on route lately!"

He's still mostly tied up, but never hurts to be certain. You bind his arms to the cot and tie his legs together even tighter, and give him a quick search for anything he could use.

"Hand me a fiber cutter and a size 3 socket." she says rather professionaly. Thankfully you know enough maintenance not to make a fool of yourself. You marvel at as you work beside her. Your not bad yourself, but the speed she works is incredible.

Taking the opportunity, you engage in small talk.

You ask if 3 pilots is enough for team battles.
"Oh, sure, 3 is plenty, especialy for D-rank. Battles with 4 pilots are rare, even in higher ranks. With you, we just need another."

About a half hour passes, and she finally steps away, wiping some sweat from her brow.
    "All done!"
"Great!" you hear rob call out from the cockpit. Seems he'd been fidgeting in there the last ten minutes or so.
"I boosted the tension in the legs." she yells up to him. "Should give you a speed boost for a good 50 kilometers. Make sure they get readjusted later."

"You guys are lifesavers, both of you!" Rob says as he heads out the open hanger door. "I'll try to contact you guys later. Be seeing you!"

    sort of
For a shooting attack, you must take an enemy's zoid Maneuverability, plus the enemy pilot's Maneuver skill, then subtract your shooting skill from it. After aplying any bonuses and penalties, the number you have left is the number you must beat. Since you are shooting at optimal range, and the enemy has no cover, they get no bonuses. And since this is a suprise attack, you get a plus one bonus to shooting.
a natural 10 on a shelling atempt is critical shot. It's an automatic hit, does aditional damage, and hits whatever specific spot you aimed at without fail.

For a melee attack, you do the same thing, but there are no criticals. instead, you do more damage the more you beat the enemy's defense. if the margin is 5 or high, limbs will fly off, and weapons are destroyed.

the rest is mostly abstract quest stuff, but you can give it a try if you like.

You bring Eri over to your swag.
For weapons are a Small bore beam machine gun, and a 20 mm Anti Zoid beam cannon, both double barreled.
You of course bring up the Stealth cloak in the Helcat body as well.

"Okay, I should be able to load the Stealth Camo onto your Molga, since they have similar profiles, it should work without any modification. Your driver wheels might cause some visible distortion though, so keep in mind how you're facing you opponent while cloaked." Eri then moves on to the weapons.

"Now for guns, I can try to fit the Beam mg's onto the back of your Molga, though it might mess with your mobility. The AZ cannons would need some modifications to fit in the back where your main gun is."

She ponders for a moment, then grins mischievously.

    Shelling: Your ability to aim.
Maneuver: Your ability to move/dodge with your Zoid.
CRC: Your ability to deal with Close Range Combat situations.

Hmm, I don't know which one to get now. Probably the MG with that point made, if we need to take out a single tough target we can sand shoot it and making sure we don't get utterly fucked by people on high ground or flyers is important.

(not the most apropriate one, but its my favorite so hush)

You start with sauteing some onions, and prepare some eggs, mixing them with some soy sauce and bit of sugar.

Meanwhile you add some spices to the onions, and some water, letting it boil, poring the eggs in. You wait for them to poach, then mix the contents until the egg absorbs all the liquid, leaving a nice and fluffy dish. Serves up to 4 people with rice and sauce.

You smile as you bring the food down to the hanger. Your father was a terrible cook, but this is the one thing you remember him making that you actually liked.

You hand a plate to Eri, who was just taking a break. So takes a fork full in her mouth.
    "Spicy!"
You apologize if it was too much.

The Hound Soldier, tall and proud, strides in to the hanger. You only seen these in a picture book you had as a kid, 'Heroes of the Maze'.

Only after the initial shock do you realize that the zoid is damaged pretty badly. One of its mighty lances have been sheared off, and its armor is cut up something good. Its buster cannons are also nowhere to be seen.

You rush up to the zoid as it comes to a halt. A man wearing a bandana over dark hair hops out. He looks a bit older then then you, though that could just be his stern jawline. He eyes you, and gives you a good look over. A smile creeps into the corner of his mouth.
