    >Crunch thread had a good reaction, I'll see if we can have another on Monday.

YOU ARE ALEX RASTON. Yesterday you yelled at your sister, got your shit slapped by some sort of a fucking ninja with a lead pipe, and then got rescued by Hustler-One.

He then gave you something your mother referred to as a 'self stone' which apparently wards off bad juju.

So Nine-Ball is apparently a fucking WIZARD on top of everything else.

Today you woke up to Elsie's body pressed against yours, and the smell of pancakes on the stove. So far, an improvement.

    >I might need to pop off to help move a Mammoth Tusk.

Hopefully the self stone will also ward off serious aggravation of existing injuries.

    Disregard ribs, acquire pancakes.

Give Elsie a hug and a kiss, nothing strenuous as we have not had a good chance to recover from our first set of injuries yet and then our ribs got broken. If we didn't have absurd toughness we'd be unable to do anything.

After the kiss follow our nose to the pancakes, coat them in a solid layer of butter/maple syrup/ whipped cream and strawberries and eat them.

You look down at her and give her a little squeeze.

She wakes up, and a moment later it sinks in that you're awake and aware.

"Gh- Elsie, I'm made of bones. Broken bones." As much as you love her hugs, they aren't as much fun when you're really hurting.

She grins rather sheepishly and gives you a kiss instead. "I'm just glad you're alright."

    "Yeah... Hey Elsie?"

    She looks at you.

"I don't feel up to facing Mooch right now. I kinda already want to punch him in the face for reasons unrealated to him being a morning person. In my current condition, it might end with one of both of us dead."

"You just don't want to get up."

"I have broken ribs. I have an excuse."

"Yeah, yeah. I'll get some for us to share."

She leaves the room and comes back a moment later with a couple of plates.

On yours is some scrambled eggs and two pieces of bacon, arranged in a smiley face on top of a small stack of pancakes. Elsie helps you sit up, and the two of you eat in pleasant silence.

"You know, this is somewhat less sexy that I was hoping."

She seems confused for a moment and then starts laughing "You wanted to- Oh god, I'm kinda surprised I didn't think of that." After she wipes a tear from her eye she continues "It's probably for the best. Could you imagine what would happen if we crossed the wires for food and sex in our minds? We'd be morbidly obese or never get anything done. Maybe both."

You bitterly concede the point, and breakfast is finished with a side of giggles from your companion.

Walking into the kitchen area with Elsie you see that your team has been joined by your mother and Zack.

"Hey." Laurie greets. "You look like shit."

    "I feel like it."

Ari jumps like she's going to fly across the room for a full on tackle hug when Dave catches her shoulder. "Ribs." He reminds her, and when he lets go she walks across he room and is a bit more careful, unlike the last several times.

    "Alex, I'm so sorry."

"Unless you've been hiding ninja minions from us, you have nothing to be sorry for."

"You went because you were mad at me. If I hadn't-"

"No. This ends now. Nobody gets to blame themselves for shit that isn't their fault, I'm sick of hearing about it."

You sit at the table. "Zack. Don't normally see you at the hanger."

"I normally check in on you guys through my brother. When I heard you got hurt, figured I'd pop in and check on you. Josh was here a couple hours ago, see if you were awake yet. Went out to clear some old mines to the south of here, should be back this evening."

"Anything else I miss out on?"

"Apparently there's some sort of freak-out in the local circuits because Nine-Ball up and vanished again Yesterday afternoon. Apparently at about the same time we found you he took off east in his Core, stating 'personal reasons'."

"Yeah, fair warning though: you're going to be very sore for a day or two."

    "How sore?"

"They're going to cut little tiny grooves all over your ribs, and then lace them with plasmatic carbon. The process itself will be EXTRAORDINARILY painful. The afterwards is going to hurt about as bad as now, for the first day at least. but with some morphine in you you'll be functional."

Your mother looks rather uncomfortable with all of this, but seems to be biting her lip. Your sister is dead silent, trying to comprehend what today is going to be like for you. Laurie seems to taking it in stride, and Zack seems shocked at how calm you all are about this.

"I'll go book an appointment with a guy I know." Dave says, as he puts his plate in the sink. He then leaves to use his com link.

I know we all kinda pinned our hopes on you guys when we came here, but you don't need to worry about the specifics. I can handle that, I just need some bank to work with."

"How much of that half mil we gave you do you have left?"

"A few thousand, held in reserve in case of an emergency."

"Damn. How much do we need?"

"To survive? Not counting the roughly three and a half before we own this little chunk of land..... half a mil would let us survive for a year, bare-bones like we have now. 3 mil, we could do some decent upgrades to our living conditions. For 10 we could be sitting pretty, get ourselves re-settled here for good, and have a decent head-start. For a hundred, we could almost consider restarting a colony somewhere else."

    "That cheap?"

"If we don't have a giant ass dome over us like Hope? Sure. We wouldn't have the same level of independence, but if we set up somewhere relatively peaceful like northern Cali where the corps don't have much sway, but like to keep the bandits down for a buffer zone? We could swing it. You guys keep pulling in cash, we might even get to re-build something on Hope's scale."

So not to derail here, but this is a concern I didn't get to voice in the last thread due to these always starting at 2 AM my local time...

Is anyone else concerned by the implications of Hustler One talking to us in person? Not in the, "he's a powerful Raven and why would he bother" sense, but... Well I'm not sure how many people here ever played Masters of Arena and I don't wish to spoil, but let's just say meeting Hustler One in the flesh is an unlikely scenario, at least in the canon universe(es).

    I suppose that was too vague. Very well, spoilers it is;

THIS IS A SPOILER WARNING I MAY BE FUCKING UP AN IMPORTANT PLOT POINT HERE OH GOD DON'T MURDER ME NOT THE FACE

There's no "rumored" about it. Hustler One was an experiment by one of the corporations to cut Ravens out of the AC equation; but it went rogue and, ironically, set itself up as a Raven. Hence it was always such a beast to beat; it could push its equipment to engineering tolerances rather than worry about, say, blacking out from too much boosting. Or from piloting more than one core at once. Seriously, in the last mission of Masters of Arena you fight two Nineballs, and one of them FLIES. Not boosts around a lot, just stays up there, never hits the ground to pause and recharge.

See, I'm puzzled though; if he were just an AI, he wouldn't be able to come bail our asses out like he did in the alley. An android proxy body would be possible, of course. But as weird as it is to say for the AC universe that tech really does seem a touch out there, if only because the size of your standard war machines seems to indicate that really well-miniaturized power sources aren't readily available. Might be there's more to it than that.

You sit there for a moment. You're a lot more tired and sore than you realized. Ari starts to talk. "I... should apologize."

    You look up at her.

"I wanted a core, and didn't stop to consider all the implications. I should've, at the very least, talked to you about it first. I wasn't trying to go behind your back, or lie about it. When Mooch agreed to help me, I didn't know you didn't talk to him about all of that. I just... it seems stupid, but if I just thought to ask one question, or make one comment, all of this would have been avoided. I wouldn't have wasted all that money on a core you won't let me drive, you wouldn't have been pissed, and wouldn't have been jumped by that guy. I mess- no, I FUCKED up big time. Not only did I fuck up in the big sense, but I managed to fuck up in a million little ways that each could have prevented all of this if I thought it through all the way. I guess... I'm not really cut out for this team. I'll just get out of your way now."

She stands up to leave "Well then, let me know when you're done feeling sorry for yourself, and we'll get you back to training."

Besides, now we have a core that's going to be pretty much impossible to sell, and no pilot for it. You're the only person I know of still breathing that we can even consider as a candidate for it."

"So that's it then? You're giving me another chance?"

"Chance? I'm going to make you a good pilot if I have to personally beat you in the head with a copy of 'the art of war' until the smart sticks. You are going to be scrutinized and put through training hell until I get tired of hearing you cry, and then I'll trade off with Mooch, since I'm pretty sure he doesn't have much pity to spare for you at the moment."

She looks at you slightly concerned "Uh bro, are you feeling alright?"

"About as good as I can be, considering the circumstances."

"Then why are you suddenly acting... crazy?"

"You mean 'evil'? That's because right now, I'm not just your brother, I'm your commanding officer AND your personal Drill Sargent. That's three very motivating reasons to make sure you don't get your stupid ass killed on my watch. You will be here tomorrow, at Seven AM sharp, to begin your training. If you're even a second late, or god help me dressed like a stripper or something stupid, I will chase you around the hanger with a cattle prod until physically can't run anymore. THEN we will begin your training regimen."

She lets out an 'eep' and leaves the room quickly.

You wobble your way outside. Fresh airm is nice, even if breathing hurts a bit right now. Elsie follows you, and Dave confronts you.

    "You're going for a walk?"

"Actually, I was going for a drive. I had to walk to the car because I can't fly with my psychic mind powers yet."

"Man, I can understand getting restless, but there's a line that needs to be drawn. It gets drawn at about the point where you get yourself killed aggravating your injuries."

    "Calm down, Dave."

"I'm perfectly calm. I just need you to comprehend that if you don't stay down to REST and HEAL on your own, I'm going to cuff you to your bed."

"Look, I'm just going to talk to my Mom. If it makes you feel better I'll take Elsie with me, she'll make sure I don't over extend myself."

"Alright. But if she tells you to back off, listen to her. If you don't, I'm going to go grab Mooch's dart gun and make sure you stay down."

    "...Alright then."

With that, you and Elsie get in the car and cruise over to your Mother's house.

    "So why visit her?"

    "Make sure she's alright."

"Alright, we'll tell the guys that. Now what's the real reason? She hasn't magically become less capable since we last saw her."

"...Stuff. Some things I wanted to talk to her about, etc. And to make sure she's alright. It's not for her, it's for me. Remember how you said it's hard for you to sleep since Hope without me? I can't relax unless I know they're alright. It's just... after Hope, all I've got are my friends, my family, and my Core. That's all I have from my entire life. Some part of me needs to be reminded constantly that I haven't lost it yet."

When you get there your mother seems surprised to see you. "Hey Alex, what's up?"

    >> AC-Guy 04/14/12(Sat)05:44 No.18707618
As she walks past you calmly hook one arm around her waist and pull her in. She looks over her shoulder at you. "You know, when we said you should 'go to bed' we meant 'get sleep'."

"Well that's too bad," you tell her you kiss her neck.

"Aleeex..." your one hand idly gropes her "Hey, really, you need to-" you start to slide your other hand down her stomach "-dammit Alex, stop making me-" you nibble her ear "Oh fuck it."

She spins around and gently forces you onto your back before climbing on top of you. She leans and and kisses you, and you can't help but notice how good it feels. How comfortable you feel on this bed, in her arms....

You wake up to a vaguely irate Elsie. "What's wrong?" You ask her, in the most neutral tone you can manage.

"You decided to ignore order of bed-rest just long enough o make me insanely horny. Then the stress and the pain killers caught up to you and you passed out before we could do anything, and you wouldn't wake up so I had to use my hands, and now you need to go to the Doctor and I feel very unfulfilled."

    "Unfulfilled?"

"I... I don't exactly have a lot of practice flying solo..." She admits with a blush. "mostly I've ignored it, channeled it into something more productive, or used you. That was probably the first time I even tried it since I was 15."

"I'd be more sympathetic if you hadn't done the same thing to me the other day."

You shoots you a look. "When you get back, I'm locking the door, and then force-feeding you Viagra and Red Bull until I'm too exhausted to move."

    Well then.

You go talk to Dave, and get in the car to go. You don't notice the figure slinking around outside the Hanger as you leave.

Elsie has Black hair, deep blue eyes, and tanned skin. You know it's probably a racial thing, since due to core piloting she doesn't see a lot of sun, comparatively speaking. She's slim built, not particularly curvy.

Mooch really deserves his own post (Note to Mooch the person: it's a bit different from the standard fare).

Lawrence is blonde Haired, blue eyed, and very pretty. Also very grim, honest and straight-forward. Imagine what Snake from MGS would be like if he were the exact same personality, trapped in a body waiting for a dramatic bishie sparkle. He finds the fact that he could probably pass for a woman with no effort infuriating, especially since he is, at his core, quite manly.

While it's boring for him, we as player don't have to sit and watch the paint dry since we can have immediate time-skip.
Also, I think we should go for permanent augmentation. 50k is a small amount in the grand scale of things, it will barely help New Hope. Our character on the other hand is crucial to Hope's survival and emotional stability of several of its key members. We keep rolling God damn awful rolls, we need to get every edge we can. Heck, we can get more cybernetic enchantments, we should seriously consider taking them.
