    Let's just try this again.

You are Elesh Phryx, rogue techpriest and captain of the Sword-class frigate 'Sword of the Omnissiah'. Bereft of your left arm below the elbow, you awoke to find yourself safely away from the unexpected Dark Eldar raid upon the pleasure world of Aquari and safely in a Sororitas medicae facility orbiting Serentus IV. Your cogitators spin as Athe carefully helps you don a sororitas garb similar to the one she wears, working her way behind you to secure the decorative corset. "Magos Taylor's man had to cut what was left of your robe from your body." Arms carefully wrap around your abdomen as Athe rests her chin upon your shoulder. "I thought you were dead, on Aquari; there was too much blood." Caught off guard, you are unable to secure your XO before she secures the remainder of your garb and distances herself from your mechadendrites. "We'll just have to blend in until the sisters finish tailoring your robes."

In short order you've both hitched a ride on the hull of a passing trojan, though several other vehicle operators shoot the trojan's dark looks as your mechadendrites attempt to adjust the uncomfortably tight bust of your garb. As you effortlessly head toward your ship, you inquire about the others from your escape on Aquari. "Wilson's man is being treated by the Hospitallars as part of our crew, though he'll be staying for what rehabilitation they can provide. One of the shards severed some key nerves. Wilson and the rest of his wounded were fortunate enough to be treatable by Taylor's medicae. Same with Julin and Navigator Teris. Advi had her leg repaired by Taylor, I think a stabilization support had sheered or something. Our trio of servers are an interesting case, though. They're technically slaves, but Kelly has expressed interest in joining up with our crew. Canoness Irene was kind enough to arrange tutors for them." Your friend grins at some thought in her head. "The first day they barely made into their rooms before collapsing."

You part ways with Athe as your driver passes by 'Sword of the Omnissiah' and quickly find your way to Quein's quarters. Something shatters as you knock on the plasteel door, and you are forced to wait an oddly long time before the door is unbolted and opened. The stench of alcohol assaults your senses as a haggard Quein looks at you with glazed eyes. "Captain, I- uh, are you wearing a- no, nevermind. Come in, come in. You want a report, I shushpect."

Quein staggers slightly as he rights a second chair for you to sit, though you take a fair bit longer to pick your way around the various ditritus that litters the man's quarters. Your voidmaster procures a half-empty bottle of spirits and takes a long drink for himself before opening a new bottle and pouring you a politely sized glass. "What did you want to know, Captain?"

"I'm curious about our losses, Quein. Athe gave me the outlines, but I'm at a loss for details" You note that Quein seems thinner than you remember. "Quein, have you been eating?"

"Food makes me sick." Your officer takes another long swig of spirits before he settles down to tell his story. "When the pair of xenos ships made their second run, we had to split our force into pairs to fight them. We held orbit with some raider while 'Domum Emendationem' and 'Enshrouded Sire' gave chase to the one that split off; some transport that had joined us was burning up in the planet's atmosphere about then. The raider with us took some sort of massive boarding pod to her prow while the xenos ship tangled itself with 'Sword'. We held their boarding parties firm and pushed across onto the xenos ship within the first twenty minutes, but it was bloody. Alpha and Bravo companies went for what we thought was her bridge while Charlie supported and Delta defended 'Sword'. Next thing we know Alpha and Bravo were getting torn to shreds and Charlie had found thousands of slaves. I should have left them there, but I sent the shuttle and lighters while Charlie took over a xenos shuttle bay. Alpha's officers were wiped out in short order and the men became scattered. Bravo eventually picked up some stragglers, but aside from that and a small group that managed to bump into Charlie's position... they were wiped out."

Quein becomes lost in the bottle he holds for a while before continuing. "The xenos ship eventually tried to break away from us, and managed it on the second try. We couldn't fire on her with our armsmen on the near side of their ship, but our escort was on the opposite side. I- I had them fire on the xenos ship's engines. I didn't think the shots would go thru the fucker, Captain. I swear. Johnston's lighter collided with a shattered section of hull and turned to dust; Danni managed to crash her's into the shuttle bay, but the impact killed her and most of the armsmen she was carrying; the slave pens took a direct hit and half of Charlie vanished... And they have the audacity to call me a hero."

With your officer nearing a catatonic state, your attention is drawn to a series of curves shifting in his bunk. Your eyebrow raises as you note a cute little fleur de lis on the thigh that ends up free of the tangled sheets. Quein slowly follows your gaze, a slight grin brightening his long face. "Grief councelor. Courtesy of the sisters hospitallar."

"Quein, if you don't eat, you're going to die" You slowly rise and make your way toward the exit, opening the door as your voidmaster replies, "When?"

"I'm sending food up. You are to eat, that is an order."

    >Orders?

How about we go investigate that factory ship mentioned last thread that we may be able to claim. Let's see what sort of condition it's in, and so forth.

Also, perhaps we should arrange for some sort of memorial service to be held for the armsmen who died in the boarding action. Should help the morale of the crew to know their fallen brothers in arms haven't been forgotten.

    >Orders?

Well, definitely get Quein to eat. It sounds like he actually has a care for the men under his command, there's something new for the grim darkness of the 41st millennium.

Otherwise, chest through the ship to see what bits were damaged, maybe even call together the companies and give them our congratulations on surviving and for doing a damned good job, given the circumstances. Also, voting to keep them split up and reinforce them with new crew when we eventually get some new armsmen (perhaps with some of that 7 leftover Requisition?). That way each company will have a core of 200 or so veterans to lead and teach, rather than having one entirely veteran company and several less competent ones.

    speaking of Augmentation...

I've reworked the philosophies a bit...

    Augmentation Philosophies:
    POWER
    pros: ++ Str, ++ durability, ++ utility
    cons: -- Energy, BULK/Weight, INHUMAN

    Efficiency:
    pros: ++Energy, +Utility,
cons: - durability, -Str, often INHUMAN

    Style:
    pros: varies by design
cons: varies by design, often INHUMAN

    Natural:
pros: +utility, concealable (with synth skin), +customization point
    cons: - durability, - str, - energy

    Balanced:
pros: favors neither Form, Function, or Energy
cons: suffers from lack of customization points

I'll drop the "customization points" bits in an image file once I've finished eating and can type it up.

you'll be able to craft augmentations using a different philosophy at any time, but will suffer a penalty in the crafting process.

Seconding this, stay mostly human looking, it's not like we need strong arms if we have mechandrites and an exoskeleton.
Speaking of which, we should get around to making ourselves an exoskeleton/power armour or having it custom made if we can't make it ourselves.
Or buying one if none of those options are viable and then modifying it to fit us.

very well. based upon this new information, i switch my vote to style. The style we should use should focus on utility and concealment, such as various connectors for interfacing with our weapons or customised equipment, and having them be retractable under covers so that when not in use, it is not obvious that their true purpose is as a custom interfacing system...
this would probably be at the cost of strength and durability...

Holy promethium. You do owe a total of forty cargoes worth to Magos Taylor and Captain Wilson, after all. And then there is that mothballed factory ship to investigate. Sometimes you feel as if your cogitators disagree with each other just for the fun of it! Before leaving, you poke your head back into Quein's quarters, "Quein, you made a call that had no good options. You save who you can and remember the rest." You're fairly sure that Quein's 'grief counselor' nearly bit down as her face burned such a bright red.

Exiting the ship, you stop a passing sister hospitallar and hand her a note for Canoness Laci, explaining your need for a special order of goods and that you'll be exploring the factory ship with a team of your enginseers. It requires the better part of a day to assess the massive ship's status, but the arrival of additional enginseers from Magos Grumman's workshops cuts a good six hours off the work. Your findings are less than encouraging. Estimated 9 months of repairs, though you could refurbish the ship's hull and essential conduits within a month and then work on the remainder during transits and stays at dock. Most of the ship's components require at least 25% of their material replaced, though the reactors and supplemental components seem to have been cannibalized for another ship at some point. Magos Grumman's lead enginseer estimates that 5 requisition will be needed to repair the existing essential components, plus requisition for a new plasma drive. He also mentions that he believes this ship to be one of the better preserved ships in Serentus' mothball fleet.

On the other hand, not only does Natural allow for much sneakyness, having 4 fingers and a thumb allows for a lot of digital weapons, plus being able to hold most devices built for humans (or Eldar, ehehehe), something a hook is not really designed for. You make your way toward Kelly's quart- Wait, does Kelly have quarters yet? Perhaps Athe knows. Despite the late hour on the station and your ship, you find Athe awake in her quarters. An exhausted looking Kelly is also present, surrounded by a small collection of books she appears to be studying. "I was just helping Kelly review her studies, Elesh. Care to join us?"

You gladly accept, and Athe pulls a third chair to the table in her quarters. Kelly smiles nervously as you inspect the book before her, 'Basics of Trade'. "I wanted to be useful, and I'd been in charge of a store room at one point on the yacht." The woman looks to Athe for support, though your XO seems to be letting her student swim on her own. "I'm good with numbers, and I've been around long enough to spot fake jewels and work a few locks."

With a sigh, Athe moves to support the exhausted woman's sales pitch. "She's got a natural eye for goods and numbers. She's also a good learner, according to her tutors."

You spend several hours helping Kelly study. While your exhausted mind struggles at first, you believe your effort has improved Kelly's understanding of mathematics greatly. It is clear that Kelly possesses an intelligent mind, though her lack of a proper education and life has left much for you to sharpen. As the exhausted greenhorn passes out upon your shoulder, you quietly discuss the possible positions that Kelly's skills could fulfill. "Quartermaster? Perhaps an acquisitions officer or some other more specialized position with training or more education." Conversation soon shifts to Athe's thoughts on augmentation, revealing her to be a fan of 'natural' type bionics, fairly typical for non-techpriests.

Eventually your mind begins to fade, and Athe helps you into a more comfortable set of clothing and her bunk before you pass out. Hours later you wake up in a crowded bunk with both Athe and Kelly. Your stump no longer aches, though your cogitators are forced to suppress a growing sensation of pain from your missing limb.

You quietly don the sororitas garb once more, securing the corset deftly with your mechadendrites as you slip out of Athe's quarters. As you search for Advi, you run across Julin as she heads back toward her quarters. After instructing your Master-at-Arms to recruit who she can from the liberated slaves, you continue on your way. Eventually you locate Advi upon the ship's bridge. "The view is quite nice from here, Captain. Did you hear they nearly lost reactor containment on 'Righteous Flame' when they transitioned from the warp?" You spend a short time watching repair crews crawl over 'Righteous Flame' as Advi explains the circumstances of the near disaster. After she completes her second analysis, you quickly invite her to join your visit to Magos Grumman before she can start talking about some sort of crazy contraption to capture servitor convertable children. That would be an interesting conversation with the sororitas. Within an hour you have claimed and changed into your new set of fitted mechanicus robes, though you note with mild frustration that every sororitas-tailored outfit seems to be tight in certain areas. Perhaps you should take a few hours to learn to tailor your own robes.

Soon enough you are met by Magos Grumman and his aide. "Captain Phryx! It is good to see you functional again. Have you given thought to what you'd like to requisition?" After a brief bit of haggling, you manage to convince the Magos to lower the costs of a few items...

With the current skillsets of yourself and Advi, you could set up the ship to either produce refined metals or, if you were to work there yourself, a small-scale bionic production facility.

also note that your Factory ship comes with two Main Cargo Bays by default, for free.

it is for starting an industrial facility upon one of the platforms. You'd need an existing space station to start the facility on, for example.

It has also come to my attention that the Factory Ship will be able to function as an asteroid miner/refinery with 1 supplemental component, though to mount weapons it will require an additional supplemental component of Auxiliary Plasma Banks to provide enough power.

As for "why no lance weapons", I'm going with the BFG fluff for lance weapons instead of the RT "lol put lances anywhere you can power them, they're weak as hell anyway" mode.

Only larger warships or hulls specifically designed to mount lances on smaller hulls can sport lance weapons. Lance weapons also instantly destroy any escort-sized ships on a critical hit, due to BFG fluff.

    >>18788856

well, technically the lances "cut escorts in half" at the least. On the plus side, lance weaponry is currently very rare in the sector due to the scarcity of cruiser hulls or larger. There are an estimated 20 cruisers in the sector, most of them part of the Imperial Navy.
