(( Did I say Tuesday? I meant Monday. Yeah. Monday.

Turns out the island was uninhabited. Why, I'll never know - I could have sworn it was actually used. I mean, it's right in the bay. Well, perhaps 'uninhabited' is the wrong word - abandoned might be better. Some sort of facility was here in the past. I've set up shop here with my phone and laptop, which has a very damn good battery. While I gather information, Archer prepares. He has cast himself in armor, now - a reflection of not his journey, but his actions in the Illiad, most likely. I have set up multiple wards.

My contacts have been reporting that the folks from Big Ben have set up shop on the outskirts of town. They didn't seem to care much for the mundane subtlety of their actions, buying a house with cash, then throwing money at every problem from transportation to food to information. Their Servant is not apparent, but has been described as a 'knight in shining armor'.

    How frustratingly opaque.

There's been few fights. Almost no contact between Servants.

It is currently 6 AM, and I have just woken up. I watch Odysseus begin to move his arm, and something strange happens - his arm 'jumps' a little, as if moving instantly a short distance.

"How was your sleep?" he asks, tightening his armor a little.

If we're going to use this as a base of operations, we'll want to get supplies and a generator for electricity.

"It was restful enough." I reply. "And yourself?"

"It went well. The night was silent, as I'd hoped."

"Excellent. ... What was that, with your arm there?"

"Remember how I said that I would only lie to you if a gambit for our victory required it? This is one of those times."

    "But-"

"I will not betray you. I swear this on my son and on my wife." he says, looking me in the eyes.

Urgh. Those eyes make me uncomfortable. I'm not sure why, or how. Something about them stirs me in a way I don't want to be stirred.

"We should acquire a generator if this is to be our home base for the remainder of the war." I said. "We will need power."

    He nods.
"This facility is vast - perhaps one is left here, forgotten?"

"We may as well explore." I say, closing the laptop but keeping my phone. It's important to keep in contact with my agents, they're an edge most of the masters don't have - as the owner of the land, myself and my family have a small group of lesser mages performing these duties.

The place is ominous. It's strange, really - while there's nothing outstandingly magical about it, something about it reminds me of a research area for magics.

And, how to put it... not ones liked by the Association OR the Church. There's nothing obvious, no signets or any of that - but the place reeks to me of vile ceremony and the like. I've heard of the way the Grail in Fuyuki city was tainted. I've read the dissertations and papers written by Emiya.

And this place's 'smell', its signature, remind me of it. I can't place it exactly. There must be something -

My family's mastery of entropy is only great enough to remove it from things - we've yet to master movement from one entity to another, or even generate it ourselves.

"Archer. Our perimeter has been breached."

"Understood." he says, and we move - to higher ground. The island has little in the way of cover, and we soon emerge to the roof, giving us a good view of...

A massive bank of fog, thick and soupy.

    Archer frowns.
"I need line of sight to properly shoot my target." he says. "This magical effect is troubling."

Well, it's not normal magic. If it were, I'd sense the way the prana was being manipulated. It's not even a sorcery, or a Reality Marble. I can't sense what's generating it! It's like the fog exists on multiple levels!

CALM DOWN YOU FUCKING CUNT THIS IS WAR SO RELAX, THINK, AND DO WHAT BIG O OR I SAY

That said, if the fog is obviously not based in magic, then it would be reasonable to assume that it is based in secular methods. A fog machine? Industrial grade?

Troubling on several levels, it indicates our opponent is either not fully magus-headed and uses technology AND it implies our opponent knows that servant Archer is here, because that is a perfect countermeasure to Archer.

Check the fog again. Make absolutely certain it isn't magic based. It may even be a sort of passive effect of a servant, like Lancelots NO IDENTITY thing.

In that case, we're dealing with assassin or berserker. If it's berserker, we may want to be able to retreat. Assassins can be fought in combat, especially considering O's B's in STR and AGI.

Ask O if he is confident in his sword arm, and if he is tell him to advance forward to a visible area to draw out the enemy, Bow at the ready for a crack shot.

If he isn't, fall back further into the island. If the fog moves further to follow us, we are definitely dealing with someone we don't want to engage right now.

It says it's not normal fog, it exists on multiple levels. It's not sorcery or a Reality Marble, if it was bog standard fog Archer wouldn't give a flying fuck, it's a pretty good guess to place it as a NP. Probably Assassin, hopefully not Berserker, low chance of it being caster.

"If I use my magic on the fog, and you blow it away, I may be able to find what's generating it. If the fog appears mundane it might be because it is made to block magical senses and the generator is not so warded."

    I nod.
"Who dares, wins." I say, drawing a small pistol and sliding the ammo into place. Pulling the slide and slipping it into a prepared holster, I step to the edge of the roof. "Eastern shore, if everything fails. Clear?"

"Understood." he says, holding out one hand. He carries me, one arm under my back, the other under my knees, and drops. As soon as I'm on solid ground again, he leaps back to the roof. This whole time I've been building the prana in my Crest for a massive blast of Entropy, as I run into the fog. This time, when I unleash it, it's not just magically visible - it's a visual distortion, a ripple of dark and shining energy.

The fog looms in, but soon, a roar follows, and it's blasted away. The area around me is clear again in the light of the dawning sun, as I hastily look around. There... It's faint, but it's there. I run.

A police officer stands next to a magic circle - not one he made, but one that looks like a reaction of the world to quantify a magical effect. He's staring at it, a cigarette in his lips. "Give up your seals." he says simply. "I'd hate to kill a woman."

I say we should focus on defense. He's a denier of tradition. We are a denier of tradition. We should not underestimate guns and the possibility of a trap here. Best thing we could do is probably to get the gun shot out of his hands and then prepare to defend against the servant.

Possible but less likely. Caster tends to set up a stronghold of some sort rather then venturing out, when they do venture out it's after they've collected a buttload of prana, generally through less than polite methods.

Irregardless, introduce yourself. Ask him to introduce himself.

I'd say it would be better if we kept our Servant class on the down low. Big O would appreciate it, I think.

After introductions are over, tell him to fuck off and that you aren't looking for a fight this early in the war. Hopefully Big O is smart and puts an arrow in his neck if he points the gun away for a second.

"You can get a new hand. I know what you people are capable of. Just give up and walk away."

"My name is Eliza Alexander." I reply, "And you really shouldn't point a gun at a known Master."

He chuckles. "As if I'd put the gun down now."

"Introduce yourself. I shouldn't have to teach you basic manners."

"My name is Gerald Dumat." he says. "Why are you so damn calm?"

"Because I know something you do not." I allow myself a little smile - and something in my head wrenches. Ever so briefly. I can see the magic pulse, but I don't think he was watching for it. "At any rate, I'm not looking for a fight this early. Walk away - or boat - and take your servant with you. No one has to die this morn."

    He frowns.
"I doubt mine would return without killing." he says, with a light chuckle.

"Then we are at an impasse."

Out of nowhere, an arrow slams into his trigger finger, severing it. Within moments, I lift my gun, but he screams:

    "Assassin!"

His hand burns and then goes out - one of the command spells has been used. He turns to flee to the boat.

I could take the shot, but knowing Assassin is in the area, it might use time I do not have!

    I must move quickly.

I aim and fire - and find that the bullet slams into the ward energy around his boat. A police officer magus with an affinity for 'shields'. I should have known... Counting on Archer to protect me, I work on disabling the fog device. Once my work is completed, I slam the butt of my pistol into the edge of the circle, releasing the working energy from its productive restraints. The Prana destabilizes almost instantly. The fog, unable to be maintained in the otherwise normal weather, quickly dissipates.

    Time to run.

I turn on my heel and look directly at Assassin. His face is obscured by shadow, but a smile blossoms on his face as the knife comes out - shining oddly.

I turn and run. He gives chase.

Arrows fall from the sky aimed behind me, but I think Assassin is somehow dodging them - at least, it's slowing him down enough to keep me running.

Without the fog... We might stand a chance. Should I run towards Archer, or towards the place we agreed to flee to - they're roughly equidistant.

We run TO Archer. Presumably screaming about how we're running to him. Masters can send mental messages to their Servant, so tell him we're running at where we last knew he was. Where he was shooting from.

    [[ Understood. ]]

Things grow desperate. I can almost feel his prescence on my back as I move towards the Greek at the shore. At the last moment, I can almost feel the blade touch me - But then there's a grunt of effort, and the sound of flesh meeting flesh. I stumble forward, releasing bad luck at Assassin as I fall.

    Assassin faces off against Odysseus.

I notice something - the bow is gone. It's been replaced with a short sword that seems utterly unremarkable.

If I don't make a command, it seems they shall fight normally - but something about Odysseus's stance is odd. He looks so comfortable.

"I'm actually sort of pleased we're so secluded." he says with a smile, a grin that almost reaches his ear. "I can fight at the greatest of my ability without restraint."

"I plan on it." he says, and then he sweeps in. The ease of his movement and Assassin - no, Jack's sly dodge... Are only an initial, isolated, incident. That's when Archer moves low, making a weird step - and suddenly, he's slipped into Assassin's blind spot, striking with his bare fist at a kidney. Almost as soon as the reaction registers, he moves again, his blade slicing open Jack's chest.

    This is what he meant.

The ultimate Lie. His class is Archer. To all masters, he would register as Archer. He uses a bow, like Archer. He shoots arrows, like an Archer. Every movement and action before hinted at that - Archer. But his movements now, his actions, his ease. He's much better as a swordsman!

Jack moves towards me, but is blocked again, a sharp uppercut seeming to come from nowhere. He moves to defend, and the blade opens his back. He attempts to attack, but hits nothing but a shadow. A brawling style that uses lies and deception as its backbone.

This is his greatest Noble Phantasm. The King Of Lies Tirumphant!

    [[ Archer, it's Jack the Ripper. ]]

    [[ Understood. ]]

With a final kick to the gut, Assassin falls to his knees. Down comes the blade, and his head rolls.
"Jack is weak, but there are many. They don't share their information and rarely come in contact - but his nature is one of a thousand. Imitators, copycats, and the like. I learned that much of his Legend in the Throne. That means..." he does that thing with his arm again, and he's suddenly holding a bow. "Well, it means it's impossible to say for certain he's dead until the Master is destroyed. I was hoping it was a weakling Hassan. At least most of them have the dignity to die in a simple manner." he grumbles while Jack's body turns to blackened Prana.

"Knowing this, how do you think we should act? His Master knows we live here. Shall we move again, or bolster our defenses? Perhaps stay on the move?"

Assassin class servants are damned good at slipping through magical wards and the like as I recall, bolstering our defences isn't really an option, and Odysseus can't watch us 24 hours a day. I'd say relocate and prepare to take out his master quickly, being in the police should mean he's damned easy to track down at least, though dead cops attract an awful lot of attention.

Then we won't. We'll just set up shop there."

    "Agreed."

Taking the boat proves to be ludicrously easy. A few sly words, and the young man hands it off, leaving with a few women in his arms among the other passengers. I look to Odysseus, and he just grins and shrugs, mentioning how personable drunk people can turn out to be.

    As for mana...

He almost seems to sense what I think.
"Regarding mana. We won't be transfering the... ah, old way. I am loyal to my wife."

I give him a blank stare. "You know for a fact how little choice I had. We can transfer with blood instead. It's faster, simpler, and less embarrassing."
I nod, setting up my workshop. It's a simple thing, drawing power from the nearby area to fuel and boost wards I place. Finally, I 'tie off' the gain to hide the workshop.

The boat sways slowly, and time passes as we watch Seattle and the Space Needle in the distance.

It is now Noon of the first day, and our workshop is set up. Now that this is done, I can return to this place to research magic, set up mobile wards, and other things. I'll also be able to intuit it's location from a distance. I can think of a number of places to go.

While 4th War Master of Caster was a bit blunt and made headlines (this was the real reason the church and other masters ganked him), I think that the Churhc's mandate tominimize casualities would kind of mark us as legitimate targets. Plus, knowing our Luck at least one moralfag of a Servant will gun for our blood.

Plus, we don't have Eliza Alexander's backstory. (Does she get one? Is this how Quest Htreads work). We know she's willing to kill a guy who stole her shit, and probably wreck the day of a few passengers on the bus which killed aforementioned guy, but we've not crossed the line to baby-eating

Plus, The Big O is a total bro, and Nobody pissed at us is a Very Bad Idea. especially when he's in the Archer class - you know, the class with Independent Action, the ability to survive without a Masterfor a few days? it's long enough to kill u and make a contract with less vicious folks.

Assassin is pretty weaksauce as a Servant compared to others - perhaps an alliance saw them send Assassin as a spy to probe our defenses. We never did figure out who sent the thief to steal our shit. be wary - we need to resolve one mystery before popping a few more.

After we socialize with the ohter Masters, we should try and sort out as much as we can.

It's not that hard to signal the other Masters over. We get a large table, and I offer to handle the tab. In exchange, they introduce themselves.

The boy is first - his excitement is evident. David Argyle, from Florida. He speaks with a slight british accent. The Biker is James Sunder, a local. The last introduces himself as Benedict. His red eyes betray his lineage, however.

The discussion starts light. David is happy to visit the Evergreen state as well as the city. His Servant, he proclaims, is the nicest lady he's ever met. Benedict comments tat the service at his hotel was excellent, and that he wasn't expecting such service. His Servant pipes up that he's tasted better. The Biker says he's been having trouble as late. Something about not seeing a few of his fellow bikers for a while. His servant prevents him from saying more, and I introduce myself.

This makes known five of the seven Masters. The orders for food pass, and the wait for the meal is still tense, until the boy lets slip that we all had the same idea coming here. It is agreed - we wanted the lay of the land. He praises himself for his insight, but his Servant looks troubled.

I ask what is on the Servant's mind. She sighs and says it is simply having to deal with someone so impulsive. As if to confirm this, the boy speaks up.

He mentions that the Caster is a 'bad man', and that there are a lot of 'bad men' following him. We should all team up, because were nice people, right?

This earns a few raised eyebrows. Teamwork has happened in past grails, especially to topple ludicrously strong foes.

[[ What do you think? ]]

[[ I think getting anyone to not fight us is a good thing. It's upholding that word that is the problem. As well as whether the boy understands what he means.]]

"What do you mean by that?"

He goes on to say that he saw strange monsters around a king clad in gold. He held a book, and was speaking with a huge owl that wore a tiny crown, with long, long legs. The boy mentions that he 'couldn't have been seen, nope!'. We look between ourselves.

It is Benedict who breaks the silence.
"I propose that we hold a temporary cease-fire between us, to gauge this foe. This new information is troubling, and I think it is in everyone's interests to study it."

"How will we uphold that word?"

"The Church will act as witness to it. A penalty of breaking it can be imposed. What do you say?"

The boy happily agrees. The biker is uncertain, looking troubled.

[[We have the swing vote, it seems. If we vote for, I imagine it will pressure our leathered friend.]]

"I agree to a temporary cease fire. The church is on the way back, anyway."

It's remarkable how easy it is to lie. Nobody even seems to think twice as we finish our meal.

The ride is silent. Tense. The papers proclaim that a killer is on the loose and that the chief of police is currently looking into suspects. We reach the Church at last and holy shit that is an incredible series of Wards.

"Impressed?" Benedict asks. "The Church hired only the greatest Magi to ensure that it would be safe from attack of any sort. I suggest you clear your mind of hostile intent before you enter." he laughs as we step forth.

The administrator for the battle is a middle-aged man, his face constantly set into an expression of dissapointment. It certainly matches his voice. He seems displeased with having so many magi in his church, but lets Benedict speak.

In short, the contract goes like this - until midnight tonight (it's 1 PM now) none of us may commit direct or indirect harm on anyone else here - master to servant, master to master, servant to servant, or servant to master. The others, Like Assassin, Caster, and whatever third class is not accounted for (I'm almost certain Saber is the blonde by now) are not included. Still, a measure of peace is better than none. The penalty for breaking the truce is a single command seal.

We all agree, and a burden lifts from all of us. The boy looks pleased as punch, and we all agree not to hamper one another's investigations on purpose. Benedict shakes the Biker's hand and wishes him luck, and we all part ways.

Is there anywhere else I should go from here, or should I head home and attempt tp collect data?

As I said from a great distance we see if anything pops up, we don't approach any building we think is his.

Honestly at least as far as I can tell Odysseus is not really built to fight him.

The two major NPs we know of so far, Bow of the Ox and King of Lie Triumphant are very much anti-infantry. He'll have hordes of demons and maybe a few really fucking huge ones, in addition to his other magic, Bow of the Ox is better against hordes but this isn't what he's specialized for.

We'll probably want to point someone else in his direction rather than deal with him ourself, probably Saber if we can, we want this guy gone if he seems that bad for us.

I think we should spend the time we have now to talk with the other masters. Not about their servants, but about them. See if we can't get a finger on their personalities. Hell, as a liar himself, maybe Archer could help determine if somebody is trying to deceive us, even if he doesn''t exit spirit form.

All of these. Hide our ass back in our Secret Base, figure out who stole our shit in the beginning, make plans to butter up the kid, and figure out where Caster is hiding. (For this last one, some folks are suggesting a casino)

Before we do this: figure out if anything else happened to us when we entered the Church's Forcefield of quasi-Geas. I know I'm suspicious, but this seems too easy. I fear the kid made an alliance with either Caster or Assassin's master, so that he could sell our motely 5 in a way that we can't hut the kid without sanction. I know I'm being loony, but for Chrissakes, this is the Grail War.

    >sort.

Why tell us this? I smell hoodwinking going on.

Also: once we get back home, we need to check in with our informants. Getting IDs on the other Masters might help us figure out their kind of magic, and thus, give us an edge.

Check out the EMP or Science Center they're nice places, I think Odysseus would like them. We're safe from 4 of the Masters, we've bloodied Assassin so we should be safe for a bit while he decides if he really wants to target us, and Caster is probably holed up for now so we're not in that much danger currently.

Also if anyone is doing anything with either location we want to know sooner rather than later.

I decide to check out the EMP. The large, misshapen building is inviting. I used to come here as a kid.

Me and Odysseus chat about music - the expressions and the evolution of the art is interesting discussion for a few hours. It seems no one has set up shop here, even so close to the massive leyline convergence at the Space Needle. Something about that seems odd to me, but Odysseus tells me there is a difference between caution and paranoia, so we head back, stopping by the Pike Place Market to get some food for the minifridge. We do have a generator on the boat.

Returning, I find that three of my agents have died. One near the Space Needle, one downtown, and one at the docks.

I rapidly use other agents to check on why and how of their deaths. Within an hour, I have results.
They were taken apart. Dark places hid hollowed-out men and women, my agents seemed to simply happen by luck because I have them tail me as a common order. I'll have to assign another three to that duty.

Let me explain - I have 17 agents right now. Three of them work to tail me and make sure to alert me to things I don't notice. Ten are on active infogathering. I send another two on looking for Solomon's workshop, making sure to caution them. This leaves two agents without a given purpose at this moment - mostly just keeping an eye out from their neighborhood.

I bless my stars that their nature makes them terrible scouts, but my pool of agents is somewhat limited. After tonight at midnight, I'll probably recall them and give them new work.

If the fog was around it would have been a less pleasant battle, maybe someone else would have sent their servant in and he could sneak out and cause some damage to the Master, relying on his barriers to keep him safe if something did happen.

    I grin like a madwoman.

Three teams to take down one asshole?

    I turn to Archer.
"Why just call one?" I ask. We both laugh, pouring each other some of the good wine, calling the Biker first (Through the Church) - It's almost too easy to get him to agree to kill him. When I tell him the connection between the Chief of police and Jack, he is doubtful - but then I hand the call off to my 'agent', Archer.

Barely a minute later, we've detailed a plan for attack - James on the press conference, myself at the house. Hanging up, I then get Benedict on the line. However, he seems hesitant about even the idea. When I tell him that the attack is almost guaranteed to succeed, he sounds doubtful. Archer on the line again - and shockingly, he takes some convincing even through him. He might or might not show.

Finally, the kid. We end up talking to the Servant, however, and make little headway. Even Archer has trouble with her - She probably won't allow the skirmish, but says that 'things might turn out in your favour anyway' - whatever that means.

Finally hanging up on her, me and Archer clink our glasses together as midnight hits.

    A wonderful plan!

Welcome to the Tiger Dojo! This is a segment for Out of character questions. Essentially, you can ask about anything, but mostly you should stick to things that don't allow you or the other posters to metagame. Art is courtesy of Larro. Here's our first question:

    >Why the flying buggerance didn't Assassin kill us while we had our back turned?

Simply put - he was elsewhere. Jack was, at that time, heading for where he thought you would be - the building. What sort of madman actually enters the Foggy London Night willingly without their servant?

The idea was we could then have a third sniper (Archer) finish off the survivor. A dick more, but with no one alive to fell, we're golden

    >>18837820
Shit, I forgot all about Archer being able to win folks over with his charm. JUST AS ACCORDING TO KEIKAKU!

Distrust the woman Servant, though. She and her Master are WAY trickier than I'd imagine. Hopefully she can't detect Archer's ability to geass people.

Also: fuck the homunculus and his magical immunity. He needs to be dealt with, stat

We survived because we're fucking insane, I like that.

Why in the Sam Hell did he go after us this quickly, he had almost no info on us and he came himself even though he has assassin, who has independant action.

    That's a secret!

    >Any idea when the next one's gonna be?
Maybe a week. Next monday, I think.

I'm a little confused about how exactly Jacks powers work. So, there's a lot of Jacks? Are any of them really "Jack" or are they a bunch of different killers with a bunch of different killing styles. Could we run into Albert Fish, BTK, and the Zodiac all at once?

    I can accept that.

Is the Bag of the North Winds reusable, or rechargeable with mana?

Is it possible to summon up a mighty storm by telling Big O to curse at Poseidon?

As well, why did 5 Masters decide to eat at the same restaurant at once? Seems like an odd coincidence

This was a little badly explained - Archer was referring to the *time of Jack's case*. It was infamous for producing copycats, imitators, and the like. Individual Jacks look different, but have similar, if not exactly the same power sets.

    >>18837979
It is reusable! In fact, in the tradition of the VN, I'll post an update of the 'stat page'.

    >>18838001
Four masters, not five. She was referring to known masters, not present ones.

    Coolness.

Also, just confirming, Einzbern's Servant (Blondie) is Saber, right?

That leaves Biker Dude with most likely Rider, and the kid with probably Lancer.

Chief of Police is Assassin's Master, and Berserker and Caster we have no fucking clue.

    Am I right-ish?

    Odysseus
    Archer-class
    STR: B
    END: C
    AGI: B
    MAN: C
    LUK: F (Below human standard)

    Skills -
Independent Action (EX) : Odysseus can function without mana from a Master

for as many as ten years before dispersing.

Tongue of the Cunning (B) : Odysseus's words ring true, regardless of

context. Anything he says is taken as the truth, unless evidence is brought

forth against it within a few minutes.

    >Eye of the Mind (True) (B) : Heightened insight that was refined through experience.Capable of calm analysis of battle conditions even when in danger and deduce an appropriate course of action after considering all possibilities to escape from a predicament. So long there is even a 1% chance of a comeback, this ability greatly improves the chances of winning.

    Bow of the Ox
    Anti-Infantry Noble Phantasm
    Rank B

A bow that only Odysseus can draw. The arrows go where he wills, and never lose kinetic energy. While only five arrows may be controlled at a time, he may loose more without controlling them.

    Bag of the North Winds
    Utility Noble Phantasm
    Rank A

A bag full of storms and winds. When opened, unleashes a torrent of wind so great that it can dispel many weather, fire, and similar magics, as well as blow foes or allies away. Can be used many times, but is not very prana efficient.

    King of Lies, Triumphant
    Anti-infantry Noble Phantasm
    Rank A

A fighting style that cannot be emulated, reliant on deception and lies. The basics of it involve extreme close quarters, dirty fighting, and, somehow, remaining in the shifting blind spot of a foe at all times. Loses one rank for every person that knows of it, though this penalty is only applied after the use that reveals it.

Question about King of Lies, does our knowledge of it do anything negative to it?

If Person A knows about it, and is otherwise completely uninvolved in a fight between Big O and Person B does the minus still apply?

Damn, nasty drawback there, we have to make sure that no one else ever finds out unless they are about to DIE. Seems a waste to burn it on an aspect of assassin.

If the person who knows of it loses their memory or dies does it return to it's normal state?

Something I've been meaning to alert you guys to.

Servants can be resummoned after they are destroyed. Doing so destroys a Command Seal, and only seven servants, one of each class, can ever exist.
